Dakota Johnson red carpet hair how to

Dakota Johnson Dazzles in 50 Shades of Sequins at Met Ball 2015

Dakota Johnson took the red carpet by storm in her sequined mini dress at this year’s Met Gala. The Chinese themed ball inspired the short Chanel mini dress. For Dakota’s look, celebrity hairstylist, Jen Atkin, styled a short wavy bob on the actress, which is quite a change from the star’s usual long haired looks. See below for steps from Jen on how to get Dakota’s look using KMS California.

Jen created this look by first prepping Dakota’s wet hair with KMS California ADDVOLUME volumizing spray to provide heat protection and boost volume in her hair. She then scrunched sections of the hair and clipped with duckbill clips all around head to create an S-shaped pattern.

Jen blew the hair dry with a GHD dryer using her fingers while keeping the clips intact. Afterwards, she removed the clips and curled 1’’ sections of hair alternating between a 1″ flat iron to create waves and a 1 1/4″ GHD curling iron, while keeping the ends straight.

Next, she rubbed KMS California HAIRPLAY messing creme between each section.

Jen finished the look by misting KMS California FREESHAPE 2-in-1 styling and finishing spray over hair for lasting hold and added shine.

Just like our skincare routine our haircare routine should be changed with the upcoming summer months. Here are a few tips to change up your haircare routine for beautiful, soft, healthy hair all through the summer.

Like the oils in your skin, the oils in your scalp can speed up in the summer causing excess buildup and the clogging of the hair follicles. Beautiful hair starts with shampoo and conditioner. Treatment shampoos and conditioners like Pura d’or Organic Shampoos and Conditioners come in a variety of options from hair loss treatments, to scalp dandruff treatments. When the follicles (which are like pores) get clogged it can cause your hair to look dull, and dirty. Be sure to use the right shampoo and conditioning products during the summer months.

Also, just like our skin, our hair needs protection from the harmful UV rays. Especially if your hair is color treated. When going outside to the beach or just to go for a stroll, wrap your hair in a cute scarf or put on a hat. When hair is color treated it can tend to fade a lot faster and can sometimes turn a little brassy. Hats block sun and are also great for protecting our faceas well.

We have heard of swimmer’s ear? But have you ever heard of swimmer’s hair? Thats right. As we know during the summer we swim a lot and when we can tend to get a chlorine buildup on our hair leaving that ugly discoloration of green film. BUT it not only happens to blondes. A quick remedy to take care of that problem is before going in any kind of water (salt, lake, pool etc.) rinse your hair with clean lukewarm tap water. Also, be sure to apply a coat of leave in conditioner to act as a barrier.

Summer weather is also notorious for creating frizz! When applying an anti frizz serum make sure you find one that is silicone based. The silicone in today’s products are more advanced giving it more access to the hair. It is also non greasy and micro fine allowing more particles to process into the hair. The more particles the more you can be sure the deposit of the serum is even throughout the whole head. Follow instructions on the bottle of how much you should use (usually a dime size amount).

If you have long hair, the struggle of the heat and perspiration can be a real drag. And when we go out, sometimes we don’t want to have to put our hair up. Baby Powder can act as a barrier as well. Before you put on your clothes or even do your hair apply a thin layer of baby powder to your skin, like the back of your neck, down your back etc. then finish dressing. You may notice that throughout the day just how much more comfortable you will feel. Also, the baby powder leaves a cooling sensation on your skin.

Get the look: Shailene Woodley

Best Female Performance winner Shailene Woodley rocked the carpet last night at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards with a French inspired, bold yet naturally radiant look, created by Celebrity Makeup Artist Roxy.

Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley

To achieve this look, Roxy hydrated Shailene’s face by applying Laurel Whole Plants Organic Skin Facial Elixir to her face, neck and décolletage. Next, to even out her skin tone and achieve a flawless finish, Roxy applied a sheer foundation with a beauty blender sponge. She then softly played up the definition of Shailene’s cheek bones with a warm cream RMS Bronzer. Following this, for extra radiance, Roxy applied RMS illuminizer down the bridge of Shailene’s nose, above and around the corners of her brows, in a C shaped manner.

For her eyes, Roxy applied a chocolate brown liner along the top and bottom lash lines, diffusing it softly with a petite eye brush. To emphasize the eyes a bit more, she layered a soft black liner on her top lid with a subtle smudge. Last but not least, Roxy focused on Shailene’s lips, applying a mixture of Burt’s Bees Lip Crayons in Napa Vineyard and Redwood Forest ($9, www.burtbees.com), for a rich, bold and creamy red that finished the look flawlessly.

Live it, love it, create it

Your beauty is their passion! Hair & Nail Creations Salon in Wildwood, FL is all about giving their clients the the best of the best with no exceptions. Owner/ stylist Annette Campetela Fredericks opened her 18 years ago and has become one of the most visited salons in the area. With 6 chairs 3 nail techs and one eststichian walking into Hair & Nail Creations feels like your right at home.

annette2

While in the salon last week, everyone from the receptionist to Annette herself was all smiles, laughing and really making the whole place feel inviting. That to me is a salon that you can just tell cares. They care that their clients will walk out with a smile and they care about themselves as stylists to make sure that always happens. Continuing education, attending trade shows and even influening the stylists to watch how to videos in the back room. That shows that even the greats now that there is always something to impress on.

annette

Even in the midst of wanting to be the best salon they can be, Hair & Nail Creations also opens their arms to support other salons. Having friends who own their own salons, Annette said something that shows just what a success she really is. She said she would rather be the person who helps others get to the top of the ladder than be famous for doing it. She has done that. Tsking one of her stylists from the backroom to the showroom who is now working as an editorial stylist & not asking for anything in return. (accept awesome hair lol) That to me is the true definition of success.

So next time you are in Wildwood FL or just to check out more on Annette and her team check out www.hairandnailcreations.com and follow them on FB!
