More heat, no problem

Styling our hair with hot tools can really take a toll. Especially when we do it everyday. After a while of using flat irons and blow driers etc. on my hair, it started becoming very brittle, dry and my color was fading faster and I was still using heat protectants. Having worked behind the chair it is my duty to educate on how to keep hair strong and healthy but how could I do that when mine was falling apart in my hands? So I stopped using all tools and my hair went back to normal. Only problem is I like to style my hair and not being able to find the right heat protectant I just couldn’t.

THE LOOK: Modern yet classic – accented with a 60’s inspired heavy side swept bangs and a simple chic bun

THE BREAKDOWN:

·To begin, Abergel created a very deep side part on towel dried hair and applied John Frieda Frizz Ease Nourishing Oil Elixir to create beautiful shine and pliability.

·Next, he applied John Frieda Luxurious Volume Root Booster Blow Dry Lotion from the roots through mid shaft to create volume.

·Then, he blow dried the hair smooth with a round brush creating side swept bangs for a 60’s feel.

·Once the hair was dry, he took a fine tooth comb and teased the crown making sure to smooth it with a paddle brush. Once the shape was achieved, he locked it in by spraying John Frieda Luxurious Volume All-Day Hold Hairspray.

·He tamed any fly aways by rubbing a dime size amount of John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Touch-Up Crème and running it through the hair.

·Abergel then pulled the hair into a low ponytail staying about 4” above the nape of the neck and secured it with an elastic. He then twisted the hair into an “S” shape knot and pinned it in place.

· To finish, he sprayed John Frieda Luxurious Volume All-Day Hold Hairspray to set the look.

Fishtail-Wrapped Pony

Severe side part, volumized, fishtail braid wrapped around a low braided pony.

TIPS & TRICKS:

· Brush out hair with a drop of hair oil.

· Create a severe side part.

· Divide hair below occipital bone, mix hair oil with a pomade to smooth hair and pull back into a tight ponytail.

· Comb the top of your hair with same oil and pomade mixture until smooth and tease the crown to get some volume.

· Create your fishtail braid going sideways from right to left down the back of your head.

· Smooth and polish the remaining hair before pulling and twisting into a braid.

· Finally, wrap the fishtail around the braid.

Side part slicked pony with some texture and twist.

TIPS & TRICKS:

· Divide hair into a deep side part and separate into two sections (one top and one bottom).

· On the bottom half, twist the right and then twist the left into a tight pony.

· On the top half, add volume with a volumizing spray and wrap it into a twist around the pony.

· Tease/Spray the pony for texture and volume.

TIPS & TRICKS:

·Blow dry hair smooth with a little hair oil.

·Divide hair into 6 sections and do 6 quick braids.

·Spray with a light hairspray.

·Take a flatiron and go over braid a few times.

·Take out braids, spray with a beach or wave spray, use hands and lightly scrunch.

·Continue to layer as you take out each braid with spray and use hands to separate.

Cut Your Blow Drying Time In Half With The Blo & Go

About 2 years ago while working behind the chair I noticed that my right wrist was feeling extremely weak and in a lot of pain every time I either picked up my shears or my blow dryer. THE BREAKDOWN Here is how Celebrity hairstylist Gregory Russell gave nominee Christina Hendricks textured waves inspired by her red Marchesa Gown for tonight’s red carpet:

· To begin, Russell applied John Frieda Luxurious Volume Building Mousse to Christina’s roots when her hair was damp

· He then sprayed the John Frieda Luxurious Volume Fine to Full Blow-Out Spray to her ends and rough dried/scrunched her hair until it was 95% dry

· Next, Russell created a center part and used a multi bristle flat brush to smooth the hair, without stretching it, so that it had a lot of body.

· To create the waves, he used a 1-inch flat iron in sections to create texture and body. With a 1.25-inch curling iron, Russell then took small pieces at random and curled away from the face to add both rotation and dimension. For desired volume and shape, he brushed through the lengths of her hair with a wide toothed comb and back combed the underneath.

· To finish, Russell sprayed John Frieda Luxurious Volume All Day Hold Hairspray for hold and long lasting shine.
