Stop your cold sore in its tracks with Carmex

carmex-package-shot

We all know to well about that sensation. The itchy tingly feeling, the slight soreness and all we can do is wait until the dreaded Cold Sore shows itself. I usually suffer from at least one cold sore a year and when I get one, I am miserable. I don’t even want to touch my face. I can forget about make-up and my beloved lipstick.

After reading the history of Carmex at their website carmexcoldsore.com  (see below)** I decided I would try the product. This year I will be prepared and will have Carmex Cold Sore Treatment in my handbag waiting for that dreaded day.

history-intro

**Alfred Woelbing, like many people, suffered from cold sores. Unlike many people, he had an entrepreneurial spirit and a knack for kitchen chemistry.

Alfred decided to solve his painful condition for himself, and concocted a remedy for his cold sores. In 1937, he began making Carmex by hand, pouring the lip balm into the familiar yellow-capped jars in his kitchen.

His sales method: visiting pharmacies one by one. If they weren’t interested, he gave them a dozen jars for free—along with a postcard to reorder. In no time, the pharmacies sold the free samples and the reorder forms starting coming in.

Alfred produced Carmex from home for many years, moving into a full production facility in the 1950s, and then to their current manufacturing site in 1975. About 100 people (including Alfred’s grandsons Eric and Paul Woelbing) continue to produce our original formula in its trademark little jars, and have expanded the line to include ultra hydrating Carmex Moisture Plus® as well as soothing skin care products.

Carmex Cold Sore Treatment is a tiny tube that discretely fits into the smallest of spaces.  “Carmex® Cold Sore Treatment works on contact to block pain and itch while minimizing the appearance of your cold sore. ”  Carmex Cold Sore Treatment contains Benzocaine which blocks pain and itching. Carmex TriPLEX formula will smooth and fill the cold sore helping to minimize its appearance.

Hopefully I will get lucky this year and the cold sore will pass me by but just in case, I have my Carmex.

I’m Sick, do I Workout or Not?

woman runny nose

My mailbox is full of questions on…. “I am sick, can I still work out?” or “I am sick, should I still work out?” or “I am sick, what should I do to work out?” First of all, I want to commend all of you for your dedication to your fitness! So here are a few rules to remember when you are sick.

If you are sick from your neck up, work out.  Chest down and fever, sit down!  So, if you are achy, feeling like you got hit by a Mac truck and feverish your body is fighting an infection and needs it’s rest!!  (Not to mention you are contagious, so rest and let your body recoup).

If you have a headache, cold, runny nose, and that irritating sore throat, suck it up buttercup and get your work out on.  Make sure you wipe down your equipment before and after your workout so you don’t pass on your germs.  An average cold last 7 to 10 days, so you really could get away with just cardio 3 times a week. Keep in mind it really is an old wise tale that you can sweat out a cold. Jump on an elliptical, bike, or even a treadmill – it will keep you moving and keep you “on track” until your cold passes. You can do some resistance training, if you have the energy, but throttle back until your cold passes and then get back to your regular intensity!!!

Bottom line is, yes you can work out if you are sick from the neck up. Do cardio, light weights but most importantly listen to your body, if it needs rest, let it rest!

The red carpet might be over, but our love affair with this award season’s trends has only begun!

Winter white was white-hot on the red carpet at the 2015 Golden Globes, with stars like Kate Hudson, Rosamund Pike and Emily Blunt sporting skin-baring renditions of the look. We also spotted chic all-over metallics on celebs, including Reese Witherspoon, Diane Kruger, Julianne Moore and Dakota Johnson, who wore floor-sweeping silver gowns.

Way to keep it glam ladies and we can’t wait to see what the next awards brings. #MoreWhite?

“It Takes a Team to Build a Dream”

The new year has officially begun and I am already so excited for what’s to come! So many people have already contributed to making the start of this new year productive and enjoyable. It takes a team it really does and I couldn’t be more thankful for the team that surrounds me and pushes me everyday. This so perfectly goes with the theme of my new movie “Spare Parts,” which emphasizes that “It takes a team to build a dream.” That is the truth! The “Spare Parts” premiere last Thursday was absolutely wonderful! This true story came to life on the big screen and showed people how powerful the story that came from a “Wired” Magazine article really is. The movie contains every emotion, you’ll catch yourself laughing, on the edge of your seat, maybe even shedding a tear—the story captures it all. It brings to light not just a story about Latinos, but a story about what it means to be an individual with struggles. It is a moving and fun piece of work and I am very honored to be a part of it. Thank you to my insanely talented fellow actors, the director Sean McNamara, the writer of the screenplay, Elissa Matsueda, the wonderful team of producers; thank you to everyone involved! I hope you guys will all go check out this wonderful story on Friday January 16th and tell all your friends about it! And of course, don’t forget to let me know what you think!

I would love to thank Mason for my lovely white dress, Jeffrey Campbell for my killer red shoes, Sheree Fletcher for my stunning jewelry,  Shibue Couture for my secret necessities on the red carpet, and Corina Kramer for my hair and makeup look! You all made my red carpet look come together and made me feel like a princess so thank you!

This is just the start, keep your eyes out for some exciting news to come. And as always, feel free to message/tweet/facebook me any questions or topics you’d love for me to blog about! Much love, go see “SPARE PARTS” on Friday!

Amal Clooney at the Golden Globe Awards

unnamed-4
For her first major red carpet moment post-wedding, beauty Amal Clooney stunned tonight at the Golden Globes in her classic Dior gown that was paired with a timeless and chic beauty look by makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury.

When asked how this look came to be, Tilbury beams, “Amal knows and loves my products – she wears my Matte Revolution Lipsticks in Walk of Shame, Bond Girl and Amazing Grace. I went into today knowing what she likes, so I created a retro beauty look inspired by the silver screen sirens that fits her classic style.”

Here are a few key steps that makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury used to create the look:

1. Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Skin Clay Mask was used to create a veil of perfection on the skin. Charlotte then applied Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream to the entire face followed by Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow to create a flawless soft focus and an instant “spotlight” effect, which acted as the perfect base to the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder foundation in 7 Medium.

2. Charlotte applied Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher concealer in 2 Fair and 3 Medium underneath the eye. Rid the face of any unwanted oils with a dusting of Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Skin Perfecting Micro-Powder in 2 Medium down the middle of the face only to keep Amal’s skin dewy and fresh.

3. Next, Charlotte used Charlotte Tilbury Brow Lift in Cara D to perfect brows and shape the face.

4. To bring out the golden highlights in Amal’s eyes, Charlotte applied the pop shade from Luxury Palette in The Dolce Vita across the lids. Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘N’ Kohl Eye Pencil in Barbarella Brown was applied around the eye. To soften the liner, Charlotte Tilbury The Classic in Sophia was applied over the top. Charlotte applied three coats of Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes to the top lashes and only one coat to bottom lashes to create an open-eyed look.

5. To add an unbeatable red carpet-worthy glow, use Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow to highlight and sculpt the cheek, nose, jawline and temples.

6. To create the perfect cheek, Charlotte used both Cheek to Chic in Love Glow and First Love across the cheekbones.

7. Finish with the perfect velvety, red lip by using Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Savage Rose along with a mixture of Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick in Night Crimson and Matte Revolution Lipstick in Red Carpet Red.

8. Charlotte applied Charlotte Tilbury Multi-Miracle Glow for moisture and a dewy finish followed by Charlotte Tilbury Supermodel Body to sculpt and illuminate the limbs.

Facial exercises on Studio 10

Just like the rest of our body our face has muscles but we tend to neglect them. We must take proper care of our facial muscles. It’s a natural way to make your face look younger by firming muscles and reducing wrinkles. With these simple 5 minute facial exercises we can tighten and tone the muscles in our skin and get a “face lift” the natural way.

For your basic facial exercises. Be sure skin is completely cleansed and free of all moisturizers, oils, etc. Also be sure hands are cleansed and sanitized as well. Put your hair out of your face and be sure to be sitting in a comfortable place and position. (please note: be sure not to overdo any of the movements and do them in ways that are comfortable to you)

Step 1- Using your index and thumb pick up little folds of skin gently pinching as you work your way up. Start around the jaw line into the cheeks and up towards the ears. This will help stimulate circulation in your face. Continue this for 1 minute.

Step 2- Time to get a little “screwed up”. Scrunch your face like you are squinting. Hold for 3 seconds and slowly release. Repeat 3 times. This will work areas such as your cheeks and area around your eyes that do not usually get exercised.

Step 3- With a closed mouth pretend to “chew”. Once in one direction for 30 seconds then in the opposite direction for the other 30. This will exercise the chin, & jaw. Do not overdo the movement.

Step 4- Another exercise for the jaw. Stick out your tongue and try to touch your nose. Dont force it. Hold for about 10-15 seconds and release. Repeat 3 times.

Step 5- Just like the “chewing” exercise except we are going to “brush” our teeth with our tongue. Close your mouth and continue movement for 1 minute. This is great for cheeks and chin.

Do these facial exercises 3-4 times a week and you will start noticing a difference very soon.
