Seasonal Skincare

Your skincare routine should change with different seasons and climatic conditions. Altering your entire routine might be a big inconvenience, and this is why you need to keep the changes small and minor.

The changes you make to your routine will mainly involve these aspects:

  • Your cleansing method  – When transitioning from one season to another, you can choose to use two cleansers to make the change easier.
  • How you moisturize – In some seasons, you will need heavier cream, and in others, light lotions will be ideal.

This article will cover some important skin care tips for various climatic conditions.

Winter

Winter is an uncomfortable season for many people. The cold is extreme, the sidewalks are icy, and worst of all, your skin easily dries up. The cold and dry weather reduces your skin’s ability to hold moisture, so you might have to deal with dry skin often.

A good way to keep your skin moist is to use a skin cleanser. In cold weather, the skin does not produce as much sebum, and this is why it dries fast. The cleanser can combat this by protecting the skin’s natural moisture barrier. When moving to a colder region, you will have to shop for cream-based cleansers that don’t foam. Alternatively, you can go for oil-based skin products.

The best ingredients for winter skin cleansers are hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides, so be sure to look out for them.

You should use a vitamin C serum to reduce the loss of moisture from your skin. The products are made of small particles and are, therefore, very easily absorbed into the skin. Since they contain vitamin C, your skin will be able to maintain its elasticity and ability to synthesize collagen. It also helps to boost the skin’s immune system and correct the damage done by elements such as the cold weather.

It is equally important to increase your water intake in this weather.

Hot water is generally not good for the skin. In winter, hot water should especially be avoided since it will dehydrate the skin very fast. Hot water evaporates from the surface easily and, if you don’t moisturize immediately, you will experience winter’s itch and generally affect the state of your skin.

Finally, you should exfoliate less. This is because your skin will be compromised by the cold weather. If your skin is extremely dry, you should even avoid exfoliation entirely for the entire season.

Summer

In summer, your skin will be working to lower your overall temperature. For this reason, there will be a high production of skin oil. This means you will need to go for an oil-free skin moisturizer, ideally one with a minimum SPF (Sun Protection Factor) 30 for use during the day. To keep your lips in perfect condition, you should also use a lip balm with a high SPF.

It is good to spend some time in the sun; it even helps to supply your skin with vitamin D. However, staying in the harsh rays for too long can do more harm than good to your skin. If you want to bask in the sun’s rays, it is best to do it before 10 am or after 3 pm. Otherwise, the rays will be too harsh. You should also use protective sunglasses. These will protect the skin around your eyes.

You should also exfoliate your skin to get rid of dead and dulling skin debris. This will improve hydration of the skin and prevent congestion. This should be done in the morning before you apply any makeup, moisturizer, or toner. As an advantage, your makeup will last longer if you exfoliate your skin. After exfoliation, you should always apply a body cream to protect and moisturize the skin.

Sunscreen is also essential in this season. You should remember to apply enough sunscreen every two hours. For your face, you should use enough sunscreen to fill a teaspoon, and for your body, it should be enough to fill a glass. With these products, you should consider the condition of your skin and choose one that works well with it. For example, if your skin is sensitive and reactive, you can choose to use chemical-free sunscreens.

Autumn

Autumn is a good time to repair any skin damage from the sun, chlorine, and salt water of summer. The air gets drier and cooler in this season, so you need to moisturize your skin during the transition. This should be done every day to prevent your skin from peeling and chipping. The best time to do this is immediately after you have you have taken a shower.

With cool weather, you will need to switch from lotions to creams to maintain a strong oil barrier. This will help to keep your skin hydrated. It is important to note that many hand creams are scented. If you have sensitive skin, you should go for a fragrance-free product.

Additionally, you should consider getting oily based scrubs. These help with exfoliation and also hydrate your skin.

Spring

In spring, you should carry out gentle skin exfoliators on a regular basis. This will help to reverse the skin damage done in winter. Antioxidants are equally important for skincare in this season. These can be obtained from fresh fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants will protect your skin from damage by the sun’s UV rays.

As you transition from winter, your skin will be able to hold more moisture, meaning you will not necessarily need a heavy moisturizing cream. Instead, you should use a light moisturizer or lotion since your skin needs to breathe. You will also need to use a lip balm with sun protection as the lips are open to the sunrays.

Your skincare routine needs to be re-evaluated in every season. The main points to consider are the cleansing method and the moisturizing method. Transitioning from one season to another will also require you to change the skincare products you use. Follow the tips given in this article for a more efficient skincare routine. If your skin has undergone extensive damage in winter or summer, you should contact Dr. Robert Glasgold and Dr. Mark Glasgold on 732-846-6540 for a quick and reliable correcting procedure. natura brasil is beautiful skincare for all seasons

If you are not familiar with the skincare line natura Brasil, you certainly will be now. I am loving the skincare products, mainly their exfoliating soap and dry Body Oil. Of course, I always have to share my finding with my daughter and she is loving the restorative hair mask.

natura Brasil Skincare is not your average skincare and they make perfect gifts. Weather your skin is dry from the winter weather or dry from the hot summer sun, nutura Brasil has a skincare line that will satsify any skin concern any time of year.

The exfoliating soap is fabulous and both my husband and I use it. The Maracuja seeds found in the soap delivers a non abrasive, natural exfoliation and has a nice delicate fragrance. The exfoliating soaps are vegetable based soap made in the Amazon containing a blend of pure Brazilian oils including soothing Maracuja oil. This soap feels fabulous on your skin and the Vitamin E helps to keep your skin healthy and glowing.   Natura Brasil’s Expert Tip when using the soap:  Follow with Maracujá Triple Phase Shower Oil to lock in moisture.

View the collection of vegan soaps which are sustainably made in the Amazon: Castanha, Maracuja, Acai, Cacau and Copaiba at Natura Brasil
One of my favorites from the Natura Brasil skincare line is the Dry Body Oil. I absolutely love it.  I have never used a dry oil that quickly absorbs into the skin and dries so fast. Simply spritz the oil onto your skin (adding extra oil to really dry skin) and gently rub in the oil. The oil drys so fast you never feel oily or greasy and your skin will feel so soft immediately. It’s my favorite and I love using it. The Dry Body Oil is formulated with nourishing castanha oil from Brazil and natural almond, olive and borage oils.

Natura Brasil’s Expert Tip: Massage into cuticles to instantly soften them and to leave nails with a healthy sheen.

My daughter tells me the MURUMURU Reconstructive Hair Mask is “Awesome”.  She has very thick hair and the mask adds a softness to it making her hair feel silky and shiny. You only apply a small amount to clean wet hair, massage in and leave on for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing out. Gone are the days when hair masks need 15 to 20 minutes or longer to work their magic.

MURUMURU Reconstructive Hair Mask  helps repair dry, damaged and over processed hair. It is also perfect for textured or curly hair. It is formulated with Brazilian murumuru butter to deeply penetrate and repair hair fibers and sealing split ends.

nutra Brasil Skincare is formulated without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, propylene glycol, mineral oil, PABA, petroleum, triclosan, DEA and animal ingredients.    naturabrasil.com

Natura’s mission, since 1969,  has been to help build a better world through our commitment to transparency, sustainability and well-being.

Contemplating Plastic Surgery Overseas? Here’s What You Need to Know

According to The International Medical Travel Journal, some of the top destinations for medical tourism include Malaysia, Germany, the UK, Greece, India, and Spain, but other nations top the list when it comes to cosmetic procedures, in particular. For plastic surgery overseas, Brazil, Thailand and Malaysia take the top spots.  To ensure you’ll receive the safest care when getting plastic surgery overseas, stick with the countries that have been ranked as the best for their hospitals and facilities, as well as their medical professionals.

The Top Countries for Plastic Surgery Procedures

Malaysia won the IMTJ Medical Travel Award for Destination of the Year in 2016, as well as the award for International Cosmetic Surgery Clinic of the Year. The country treats more than half a million people from other nations, thanks to its low costs and modern infrastructure. In fact, the infrastructure in Malaysia is considered better than what’s found in places like India, and English is also spoken more widely in Malaysia than in other Asian countries like Thailand.
Brazil comes in second in the world, after the United States, in terms of the number of cosmetic procedures performed annually, and Rio de Janeiro is considered the “World Capital of Plastic Surgery.” The country is known for its innovations within the field of high quality cosmetic procedures, as well as its protocols to ensure patient safety. You can find highly trained doctors and JCI-accredited hospitals, and your procedures could cost substantially less than what you would pay in Western nations.
Thailand is a country where medical tourism is growing every year, and you can expect to receive a variety of high quality treatments and plastic surgeries at more affordable rates than you can get elsewhere. Plus, a lot of the medical professionals in Thailand were trained in Western nations and speak English well. Experts recommend heading to Bangkok to access the top doctors and the best care in the country.

The Benefits of Medical Tourism

The benefits of medical tourism can be substantial, particularly when you take the appropriate steps to prepare for your trip and the care you’ll receive abroad.
  • One of the main benefits of getting plastic surgery overseas is getting high-quality medical procedures you need at a lower price. This is actually the number one reason why so many people are choosing to go abroad, as you can save anywhere from 30-80% when compared to the costs you’d incur in a country like the U.S. Even when you factor in the costs of travel, medical tourism might be the most affordable option.
  • Most health insurance won’t cover plastic surgery, so medical tourism can give you access to the care you want. Even if your surgery is covered by insurance, you might find that the out-of-pocket costs associated with treatments in your home country are more than what it would cost to travel to another country for the procedure.
  • You can recover in private. Many people prefer to have plastic surgery and other operations overseas, so they can recover comfortably at a hotel without family or friends dropping in during the healing process.
  • Established global standards of medical care, combined with advancements in technology within the healthcare field, have improved health care throughout the world, giving patients more options.
  • Many of the medical professionals who offer their services to patients from abroad are not only trained, but also certified, in Western nations, including the U.K. and the U.S.
  • There are also medical centers throughout the world that are accredited by international organizations to prove their excellence, and some are members of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Things to Consider Before You Get Plastic Surgery Abroad

Medical tourism can provide many benefits for patients, but there are also some risks that you need to consider before hopping on a plane and heading off to Brazil for a nose job or to Thailand for a face lift.
Generally, regardless of where you are traveling to receive your medical treatments, you should be aware that:
  • There may be an increased risk of developing blood clots if you fly after having surgery. Therefore, always plan for an appropriate amount of recuperation time. Then, when you are on your flight home, make it a point to get up and move around often to keep the blood flowing.
  • If you don’t speak the native language fluently and if you aren’t planning on traveling with someone who knows the language and can speak on your behalf, it could be difficult to communicate with your doctor and nurses in a foreign country. This could increase the risk of complications and misunderstandings regarding your care. Taking someone with you or arranging for a translator may be beneficial if you have concerns about language barriers–especially if your doctor is in high demand and the hospital staff may not have the same level of language skills as your doctor.
  • In some nations, there is the risk that medications will be of a poorer quality than what you would receive at home. Medications might even be counterfeit in foreign countries. You can avoid problems by getting your prescriptions from legitimate pharmacies (you can ask your country’s embassy to help you find one) and always asking for a receipt. Never shop from street vendors, open markets, or suspicious looking establishments, and avoid medications that are priced super cheap. Also, closely examine the pills themselves and their packaging, especially if you know what the medications are supposed to look like.
  • Antibiotic resistance is a serious problem all over the world, and it could be more widespread in countries where medical tourism is common. Bacterial strains that are resistant to antibiotics can result in complications that include serious infections. The right medical facility will order tests to determine the specific antibiotics that you need, as well as answer your questions regarding any antibiotic-resistant strains that they’ve dealt within the past. When given antibiotics, always take them exactly as prescribed.
  • There have already been outbreaks of infectious diseases amongst medical tourists who have returned home to the U.S. Some patients, including those who suffered from complications, are reluctant to tell their doctors about the care that they received overseas, and some may not even have the right documentation regarding the treatments they received. If you experience difficulties when you return home, be open and honest with your primary care physician and be sure to furnish all the records regarding the care you received abroad.

Paying for Medical Procedures in Other Countries

Another thing you need to consider when you become a medical tourist is how you will pay for the treatments you will receive and the procedures you will undergo. Make sure you get a quote for exactly how much you will be expected to pay, and consider the costs of traveling to and from your destination, as well as the cost of your hotel during your stay.
Keep in mind that foreign currencies can be volatile, so using a specialist money transfer service like OFX, could help you save substantially compared to transferring money overseas with your bank. With OFX, you can also lock in an exchange rate, so you’ll know exactly what you’ll be paying even if you won’t be having your procedure for another 6 months. Think of it like this: by using OFX instead of your bank or credit card to pay for a medical procedure, you may save enough to cover the cost of a hotel for a week. So get out there, and get ready to turn heads with your new look.

Finding Ways to Get Ahead in the Beauty Industry

The beauty industry is more than just a multimillion-dollar market; it is one of the foundations of western society. Both modern men and women have an investment in the beauty industry, from haircuts to makeup and cosmetic surgery. This societal interest in the outer appearance is what makes the beauty industry so lucrative, but it is also why there is so much competition in the beauty market for businesses. If you want to break into the market, then you have to find ways to stand out and get noticed; here are a few ideas which might help you get ahead in the beauty industry.

Fill a gap in the market

There are already hundreds of beauty businesses out there, so why should your customers choose you over all the rest? That’s the question you need to find an answer to if you want your business to succeed. In other words, you need to find your niche. First and foremost, decide which sector of the beauty industry you want to break into. Having a cosmetic surgery and hair salon, which also offers fitness advice, might cover a lot of ground, but covering too much ground would just confuse your customers and make them question the legitimacy of your practice. Research your target market, and find out what it is that customers want because this is the best way to determine what is missing from the market. If you fill that gap, you will already have the edge over your competitors.

Offer a diverse range of products

Finding your niche is the first step, but you can’t just stop there. You will need to offer your clientele a range of services and products which compliment your specialism, as only having one or two products will limit the client group you are able to cater for.

Take, for instance, a business which wants to offer hair waxing. The niche might be that they offer a range of waxing techniques and products which are not widely available. However, as well as this, a successful brand would also want to offer alternative methods of hair removal, such as threading or laser hair removal. These alternatives don’t have to be costly, for example, you can buy second-hand laser machines from Sentient Lasers, but will provide a wider scope for broadening your target market. If these are services that you cannot personally provide, then you could always partner with other professionals who do offer other services that you might like to provide for your customers.

Effective branding

Once you have the business model, you need to decide how you are going to present yourself to consumers. Your company name and business marking is the first step to selling yourself to possible clients, so this needs to be carefully thought out. Consider the ‘hair removal’ business model again: rather than simply portraying the company as ‘hair removal business,’ you could instead market as a ‘skin care specialist’ brand, and offer your clients other skin care treatments, such as body wraps or facials. This takes your company from a one-stop shop for hair removal to a universal brand which offers a range of services.

Using these few simple marketing techniques are just the first few steps you can take to help you create a likable brand, which, in turn, will assist you in getting ahead in a competitive industry.

Crest 3D White No Slip Whitestrips Teeth Whitening

Crest 3D White No Slip Whitestrips®. They really don’t slip!  Teeth Whitening can have dramatic benefits for appearance and self-confidence.  I love my teeth to be white and  healthy. My whitening method of choice for many years has been professional, direct from my dentist, whitening trays and gel.

Crest 3D White No Slip Whitestrips

My New Fave! Crest 3D White No Slip Whitening and Therapy Kit

Recently, my trays became discolored and started breaking down. I decided to try something new before making an appointment for a replacement tray fitting and purchase. So, I tried Crest White Strips but I found them to be flimsy and slippery. I just couldn’t get them to adhere properly. If they did finally adhere and I talked or put my lips together, they wadded up.  I got frustrated so I stashed the remainder of them away. I continued to use my trays and finished up my last syringe of Dental Office purchased whitening gel.

Then I found out about the new Crest 3d “NO Slip” Whitestrips. Did I miss them at my local Walgreens? Did they not have them in stock when I made my last purchase there?  Wow! What a difference.  These “NO Slip” Whitestrips actually stay in place and are easy to apply and provide comfortable wear. The no-slip grip is amazing. The strips stay put until you take them off. And you do need to make an effort to take them off which is a good thing. They say you can even drink water with them on.  I wouldn’t imagine drinking water with them on but if the need is there, it is doable.

I got the Crest 3D White “No Slip” Whitening & Therapy. It’s a kit that offers the Whitestrips and Crest’s new Enamel Strengthening  Serum/Toothpaste.

The kit comes with with 28 strips. Fourteen are for lower teeth and the other fourteen are for upper teeth. It comes with a tube of the fluoride anti-cavity enamel Strengthening Serum/Toothpaste.

I am going to use this for a trial of 14 daily treatments. If I love it as much or more on day 14 as I do now, I’ll definitely stay with it.  It’s priced friendly at $44.99.

Different Types of Rhinoplasties

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that changes the shape and structure of the nose. People undergo rhinoplasty to make their noses smaller, larger, or more symmetrical. Because there are so many different cosmetic goals that involve the nose, there are a variety of different types of rhinoplasty. During your consultation with a rhinoplasty surgeon, you will discuss what type of procedure is best for you.

Open and Closed Rhinoplasty

Open and closed rhinoplasties use different incision techniques. During an open rhinoplasty, your surgeon will make an incision in the skin that separates your nostrils, which will let them directly see the bone and cartilage underneath. This technique is usually recommended for more complex rhinoplasties.

During a closed rhinoplasty, your surgeon will only make incisions on the inside of your nose. With this technique, the surgery and recovery time are usually faster. You can expect less swelling and discomfort with a closed rhinoplasty than with an open one. Also, there will be no visible scarring.

Reduction and Augmentation Rhinoplasty

Reduction and augmentation rhinoplasties both alter the shape of the nose. A reduction rhinoplasty will make the nose smaller and more proportionate to the rest of the face. Depending on the shape and structure of your nose, your surgeon may remove bumps on the bridge of your nose, reduce an elongated nasal tip, or narrow down flared nostrils.

An augmentation rhinoplasty makes parts of the nose larger and more balanced or symmetrical. Your surgeon may perform bone or tissue grafts to add volume to the nasal bridge or tip. They may need to take cartilage from the nasal septum to add to the rest of the nose. If your septum doesn’t have enough cartilage, they may also remove some from your ear or ribs.

Reconstructive Rhinoplasty

Reconstructive rhinoplasty fixes the nose after damage or trauma. Many people who undergo reconstructive rhinoplasty have had a surgery to remove cancer that affected their nose, and some have had facial injuries that caused disfigurement.

Depending on how much damage was done to your nose, you may need multiple surgeries to completely reconstruct it. The surgery usually requires the doctor to take grafts from other parts of the body to restore the missing or damaged tissue.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Ethnic rhinoplasty uses the same surgical techniques as the other forms of the surgery, but it usually refers to the surgeries performed on people of Middle Eastern, African, Asian, or Hispanic descent. People of these ethnicities often have softer tissue in their noses, so surgeons take extra care during the procedure. Many people worry about losing their ethnic facial features during a rhinoplasty, so surgeons are also careful to maintain their patients’ unique facial structures while helping them reach their cosmetic goals.

Filler Rhinoplasty

A filler rhinoplasty is a non-surgical option to enhance your nose. During this procedure, your doctor will use injectable fillers to smooth out bumps or sharp angles, change the shape of the nasal tip, and restore symmetry. Most fillers only provide temporary results, but they’re usually very effective. However, filler rhinoplasty can only add shape or volume to your nose. If you want to reduce the size of your nose, you’ll have to choose a different option.

Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasty, also known as secondary rhinoplasty, fixes problems that occurred during a previous nose surgery. Although most people are happy with their original rhinoplasty results, a number of things can go wrong.

An inexperienced or unqualified surgeon could botch the procedure and leave the patient feeling even more unsatisfied with their nose than they were before the surgery. The first rhinoplasty could cause breathing issues or other functional problems. The patient could experience a facial trauma or injury while the nose is still healing, which could affect the results. In some cases, patients simply aren’t happy with the results and want to make additional improvements.

Revision rhinoplasty can be done with an open or closed technique. Depending on what the patient wants to change, the surgery may be more complex than the first rhinoplasty. However, patients undergoing revision rhinoplasty can usually have the same expectations for the surgery and the recovery period as they did for their first procedure.

Dr. Andrew Frankel is a renowned rhinoplasty specialist in Beverly Hills, CA. Dr. Frankel board certified in Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery and in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Planning Tips for a Glam Sports Night at Home

Whether you’re a football, baseball, or basketball fan, nothing beats watching the big game on a wide-screen TV with all the home comforts close at hand. Sure, it can be fun spending the evening at a local sports bar with your friends, but if you would rather chill at home with your family and close friends, planning a glam sports night is a better option. To help ensure your sports night goes off without a hitch, even if your team loses, read on for some useful tips.

Indoors or Outside?

If the weather is good, it makes sense to host your sports night outside. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, you can buy or rent a projector and watch the big match on a large screen. You will have more room outside in the backyard and the kids can play in the pool while the adults get stuck into the on-screen action.

To make sure your garden looks super glam, light scented garden candles to ward off nasty pests and hang solar string lights in the trees and shrubs.

If the weather isn’t playing ball, bring the fun indoors. Remove all the clutter from your living area and bring in some extra seating so everyone has somewhere to chill. The kids probably won’t want to watch the big match, so provide some activities for them to do in another part of the house.

Preparing Food

Buckets of popcorn and takeout fried chicken always go down well with the guys, but this is your opportunity to do things differently. Instead of resorting to junk food, have a go at making some tasty snacks. Pocket Change Gourmet has some great recipes, including one for a delicious pepperoni pizza ring. Don’t forget to cater for the kids too – they’ll probably be happy with pizza!

Another option is to fire up the BBQ. On a warm summer’s evening, cooking some pre-match steaks and ribs on the BBQ is simply divine.

A Selection of Drinks

It goes without saying that you will need a selection of drinks. Nobody will be thrilled if the beer runs out mid-way through the match and you have to go to the local market to buy more supplies.

Beer is probably the default option, but depending on who you invite, it is worth having a selection of wine and other alcoholic beverages on hand, too. If you want to add a touch of glamour to the proceedings, why not prepare cocktails? There are some easy cocktail recipes online. As long as you have the staple ingredients in your booze cupboard, you can mix up some buckets of margarita, Long Island iced tea, or Manhattans. Your guests will be thrilled!

Don’t forget to provide a selection of soft drinks, too. Mocktails are a good choice, especially if you have kids – they will enjoy feeling grownup if you let them have their own special “cocktails”. If the weather is hot, have plenty of thirst quenching cold water available.

Sports night at home doesn’t have to be boring. With the right food, drinks, and atmosphere, you can have a ball!
