Red Carpet Coverage: The Grammy Awards

Vaughn Acord, Celebrity Grooming Stylist shares his thoughts on last night’s winning looks:

THE WINNING LOOK: “The Grammy Awards often have a much looser feel when it comes to style so it is an opportunity for artists to show their individuality.

Stars like Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Robin Thicke sported styles that showed off a longer top with extreme shorter sides. It is super sleek and gutsy.”  – Vaughn Acord

VAUGHN’S STYLING TIPS:

Start off on wet hair. Rub through hair a flexible hold gel that will impart shine. Try: V76 by Vaughn Conditioning Gel.

Next, using a brush, comb hair back, allowing for some volume and movement.

Once hair is dry, use your hands to create some separation between strands, but keeping it neat and slick.

Ø  Complete the look with a light hold hairspray. Try: V76 by Vaughn Holding Spray.

“Gotta Get It” Grammy Hair with help from Jenny Balding!

Music’s biggest night celebrated the 56th Grammy Awards and stars showed off their “gotta get it” hair styles!  Jenny Balding, NYC Cutler/Redken Styling and Grooming Expert, shares her favorite Grammy styles and steps for how you can recreate these looks for your own personal red carpet event.

Beyoncé “LOVE her ultra sexy chin length bob – this looks amazing because of the colors throughout…dark roots into dark blonde into bright blonde ends.” – Jenny Balding
Create the Look!
  • If your hair is curly…
    • Create a middle part when wet
    • Apply a curl enhancing cream throughout from roots to ends (Redken Curvaceous Full Swirl is perfect for this)
    • Air dry or lightly dry using a diffuser on low speed and low heat from underneath so as not to create volume at the roots.
    • Shake out with fingers.
  • If your hair is straight or wavy…
    • Use a medium sized curling iron to recreate this look.
    • Prep hair by misting a light hairspray all over to create texture to the hair (Redken fashion work 12 versatile working spray is light and the perfect spray)
    • Create a middle part and use the curling iron vertically and wind small sections all over making sure to keep the top are on the flatter side.
Rita Ora  “This gorgeous, vintage hollywood inspired hair is very stylish and modern because of the color. Having some regrowth and then really blonde throughout is what makes this look.” – Jenny Balding
Create the Look!
  • Create a low side part on one side
  • Blow dry smooth with a large round brush for the perfect foundation
  • Use a medium sized curling iron use vertically from mid length to the ends
  • Keeping the part  and the crown area smooth and no volume.

How To Replicate Looks from the Grammys

Celebrity hairstylist, Sacha Quarles, gives us step-by-step instructions on how to recreate Taylor Swift and Colbie Caillat’s amazing looks from last nights Grammy Awards! Utilizing SHE by SO.CAP.USA hair extensions, women can easily replicate these red carpet looks for any event.

Fringe Frenzy

Taylor Swift not only nailed her performance, but undoubtedly nailed her side-swept bangs last night. By applying SHE by SO.CAP.USA’s clip-in bang extensions, anyone can get this powerful look (without the commitment). Simply add the extensions at the crown of your head and trim/style as you would your own hair. If you don’t want to commit to such an extreme style, these extensions can be removed just as easily as they are applied.

Chic Up-Do’s

Celebrities like Colbie Caillat can pull off almost any look and last night she sizzled in a tight topknot. This up-do can be obtained using SHE by SO.CAP.USA’s clip-in ponytail extension. Add the extension at a higher angle on your head then using the ponytail, coil the strands tightly towards the top of your head. As you twist, remember to apply bobby pins to hold in place and get this simple yet glamorous up-do.

Zap Your Zits Right at Home With TANDA

For the past few months I have been breaking out with severe acne all over my face  and no matter how much makeup I put on you could still tell I had it. I tried all acne treatments but still was not satisfied with the results. The acne on my face does not clear up as easily as the acne I sprout on my chest and my back (disgusting I know but hey it happens). It felt like my acne was getting worse and in the end I felt like giving up. But I am not one to give up easily on something that I feel very strongly about and I knew for a fact there was something out there that would treat my acne without drying or irritating my skin.

I have found something that actually works and is like stepping into the dermatologists office without the cost.  The TANDA Clear Acne Light Therapy Treatment has cleared my acne in less than a week.  Yes that’s right Light Therapy, the same technology that is used in a dermatologists office, is now available in the comfort of your own home.  The whole set comes complete with the light itself, the pre-treatment gel, charging station, and for those with very sensitive eyes a pair of goggles that will help with the brightness of the light.

tanda_clearplus

The biggest question I had was “How does it work”?  Well, after some research I have found that the secret is in the LED light.  The clincal levels in the blue LED light is designed to kill acne-causing bacteria and will also help to prevent future breakouts.  Now before I had mentioned that it cured my acne in less than a week, I want everyone to know that just because that worked that way for me does not mean it will be the same for others.  Some may take longer, some not so long.  You really have to give the Tanda LED Light sometime to get into the pores and kill the bacteria that causes the acne.

If you are interested in trying the product or want to see some TANDA related products visit

How-to tips:

Step 1: Apply Tinted Brilliance Balm in Nearly Naked ($14) to lips, allowing the balm to soak in and hydrate lips

Get the Look: Red Carpet Styles by TRESemmé Stylist John D

Tonight, TRESemmé Celebrity Stylist John D. created gorgeous hairstyles for several leading ladies on the red carpet, including Greta Gerwig and Drew Barrymore.  Please find his hairstyle how-to’s with images below for reference.

Best actress nominee, Greta Gerwig turned heads in her DKNY Atelier gown and gorgeous, textured up-do.
“Our inspiration for tonight was purely feeling beautiful.  We wanted the look to be elegant, classic, and romantic so I opted for a soft, romantic ‘do to  complement Greta’s style.”
How-to:
  1. Use TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse on clean hair and apply throughout, from root to tip, for volume and a great foundation. Blow-dry hair using a medium-sized round brush to add extra bounce and lift at the root
  2. Once hair is dry, use a 1″ curling iron to create body, which helps add softness to the final look. It also holds hair together, which is necessary when creating an up-do. Once finished, flip head upside-down and spray waves using TRESemmé TRES Two Ultra Fine Mist Hair Spray
  3. Section off the hair that frames the face (ear to ear) and give the hair a light back comb at the root for added lift. Then, rake fingers through hair to tame down excess lift and pull remaining hair back toward the nape of the neck. Split hair into two sections and proceed to tie hair into knots creating a kind of loose “chain” effect.  Bobby pin into place. Pull the remaining hair, that was sectioned out, toward the back of the head and secure using a few hair pins.
  4. Finish the look by spraying TRESemmé TRES Two Hairspray all over to lock it in place. Try embellishing the style using some sparkly jewelry or an accessory – Greta wore Vintage Fred Leighton pieces.
Drew Barrymore looked radiant in her embellished Monique Lhuillier gown. To complement her fun and feminine style, we opted for a super straight look with a deep side part. “I wanted to balance the exquisite detail on her gown by keeping the hair simple and chic.”
How-to:
  1. Prep clean, towel-dried hair with a thermal heat protectant spray and spritz throughout. Comb through to ensure hair is coated, and blow dry. To get a super smooth blowout, I like to use a boar bristle paddle brush. This allows you to get a nice hold on each section and create tension to aid in the smoothing process.
  2. Once hair is dry, use a flat iron on a medium-to-low setting and run the iron through the hair to seal down the cuticle and add great shine.
  3. Determine parting and tuck behind ears. To ensure a nice smooth part, use just a dab of mousse and spread it out onto fingertips then apply the product to the parting area to create extra shine and added hold. Take a small dab of hair creme, emulsify into palms and run through the mid-lengths and ends to tame fly-aways and add shine.
