The beauty industry is more than just a multimillion-dollar market; it is one of the foundations of western society. Both modern men and women have an investment in the beauty industry, from haircuts to makeup and cosmetic surgery. This societal interest in the outer appearance is what makes the beauty industry so lucrative, but it is also why there is so much competition in the beauty market for businesses. If you want to break into the market, then you have to find ways to stand out and get noticed; here are a few ideas which might help you get ahead in the beauty industry.

Fill a gap in the market

There are already hundreds of beauty businesses out there, so why should your customers choose you over all the rest? That’s the question you need to find an answer to if you want your business to succeed. In other words, you need to find your niche. First and foremost, decide which sector of the beauty industry you want to break into. Having a cosmetic surgery and hair salon, which also offers fitness advice, might cover a lot of ground, but covering too much ground would just confuse your customers and make them question the legitimacy of your practice. Research your target market, and find out what it is that customers want because this is the best way to determine what is missing from the market. If you fill that gap, you will already have the edge over your competitors.

Offer a diverse range of products

Finding your niche is the first step, but you can’t just stop there. You will need to offer your clientele a range of services and products which compliment your specialism, as only having one or two products will limit the client group you are able to cater for.

Take, for instance, a business which wants to offer hair waxing. The niche might be that they offer a range of waxing techniques and products which are not widely available. However, as well as this, a successful brand would also want to offer alternative methods of hair removal, such as threading or laser hair removal. If these are services that you cannot personally provide, then you could always partner with other professionals who do offer other services that you might like to provide for your customers.

Effective branding

Once you have the business model, you need to decide how you are going to present yourself to consumers. Your company name and business marking is the first step to selling yourself to possible clients, so this needs to be carefully thought out. Consider the ‘hair removal’ business model again: rather than simply portraying the company as ‘hair removal business,’ you could instead market as a ‘skin care specialist’ brand, and offer your clients other skin care treatments, such as body wraps or facials. This takes your company from a one-stop shop for hair removal to a universal brand which offers a range of services.

Using these few simple marketing techniques are just the first few steps you can take to help you create a likable brand, which, in turn, will assist you in getting ahead in a competitive industry.

Does Listening To A Radio Help You Fall Asleep Faster?

If you are an insomniac like me, then you probably love to listen to the radio in the late hours of the night. I discovered that it helps you to sleep and eventually, it becomes a regular bedtime behavior. There are many reasons why it’s easier to get sleep with your radio on that in total silence. Apparently, this is because the radio distracts you from worries as it relaxes your mind.

Should You Keep Your Radio On Throughout The Night?

I used to love sleeping with the radio on. I would even put Taylor Swift newest Albums and drift off listening to ‘the New Romantics’ or ‘blank space.’ However, I later discovered that this results in restless sleep. Of course, if you suffer from sleep complications with the radio on, even for some hours, you should just fall asleep without switching it on.

Which Radio Programmes Do I Listen To?

I find it rather soothing to sleep while listening to different speech programmes or talk shows. The sound of these shows is more predictable and constant than music. Sleep experts even recommend this because they are similar to white noise. However, the topic of discussion might be so intriguing that you end up on not sleeping at all! In such cases, it’s good to choose the most boring programme – the goal here is to get you to sleep.

Other than speech programmes, I also love listening to classical music. It’s sweet, calm and often has a relaxing tone. Some slow traditional pieces from the age of Baroque would do the trick!

A Pillow Speaker Is Better Than Using Headphones

We all love to sleep with regular earphones and headphones. Sadly, this is unhealthy and uncomfortable. You can even damage them as you toss and turn during the night. Listening through the loudspeaker is not good either. Remember that you don’t want to disrupt your partner’s sleep.

I loved going to bed with my earphones. Music quickly got me to sleep. However, I always woke up having painful earlobes. Luckily, I discovered that the better option was getting a specially made pillow speaker. It connects to the earphones of your radio and rests on the pillow as you slowly fall asleep.

I am a mature woman and have dealt with many of the things that can make one appear less beautiful and older if they are not addressed. That being said, I put together a list of beauty items that can help a woman look both youthful and healthy, no matter her age.  In my next articles I will address how to achieve the below list in detail.

    Face
    How is your skin? Examine it. Is it smooth? Acne? Hydrated? Evenly toned? Dry? Flaky? Sun damage? If your skin is heavily damaged, you might want to consider a light chemical peel.
    How are your eyes? Red? Clear? Puffy? Circles?
    How are your brows? Are they bushy or trimmed well? Coloring?
    Are your lips plump and even? Chapped?
    Any facial hair? A simple laser treatment will take care of this evil.  Also, plucking or buying an inexpensive facial hair remover is an option as there are many on the market today.
    Lashes – Are they lush and healthy or sparse and short?
    Makeup – wearing too much can be extremely off-putting. Learn the perfect amount to highlight your face. Enlist the help of a friend or professional if you need guidance. There are also some great makeup videos on YouTube.

    Is your hair healthy? Thick? Well-groomed?
    Is the color rich and flattering to your complexion? Do you have roots?
    Is the style up-to-date and becoming? Split ends? Frizz?

Is your body fit? Too heavy or too thin?
Is your muscle tone lacking?

Are your fingernails and toe nails groomed?
Are you in proportion? Top and bottom?
Skin color – way too tan/pale?
Is your skin dry and flaky?
Body hair?

Hygiene
Are your teeth clean, brushed and smelling good?

Are your teeth yellow? Missing? Stained? In need of orthodontics? Teeth are crucial to a beautiful face.
Have you showered?
Is your hair clean, groomed well?
Are your clothes pressed, well thought out and appropriate for where you will be going?
Next take a look at your overall package. Look at yourself honestly and write down the things you like and the things that you would like to work on. This may be painful as no one wants to face their flaws, but in order to change something you don’t like, it is essential to address it first.

After your candid evaluation, you need to make a list of your goals and objectives both physically and mentally. Set realistic goals, and give yourself a timeframe. I like to make both short and long-term goals and reward myself for each accomplishment as I make it. Great satisfaction comes from achieving these goals and you will feel so much better about yourself as progress is made.

Ageless-Maintaining your Youth and Enhancing your Beauty

7K3A6506 (1)Although a positive attitude is the most important aspect in maintaining beauty and health.  I will be telling you my rules on the physical aspects of ageless beauty that I always live by.

I just turned 53 so I am all about maintaining youth and beauty and I can’t stress enough how important a regular beauty regiment is which should be a part of the way you live your life so that you can maintain your youth and beauty, for the many years to come.

As we age things happen to every part of our body, its just a fact of life. The key is to try and slow the process down and in many cases, improve upon it. This can be accomplished by being faithful to living as clean of a life as possible and having a regular beauty regimen that you stick to each day.

CUT OUT BAD HABITS – This means cutting things out like smoking or being around those who smoke. Smokers get more wrinkles. This may be difficult if you have any smokers around you but smoking is one of the worst culprits for aging not to mention it causes cancer.

Other bad habits such as excessive drinking of alcohol should be sworn off. Of course an occasional drink is fine but too much rapidly ages your skin, since alcohol dries out the skin itself.

Clean Food- Keep your body healthy. Make sure you eat lots of healthy foods and vegetables. It is important to try to use vegetables that don’t have pesticides because of there strongly possible poisonous content. Growing a garden this is ideal, but for most people it is impossible. Most of us will just have to get the best option such as going to the Sunday farmers market or to a vendor that sells vegetables that are grown pesticide free.

Cut sugar intake- Sugars in excess cause a multitude of problems and should be limited. Occasional limited sugar or natural sugar like fruit is the best option.

Cut Stress- Stress reduction is a must in terms of keeping yourself looking and feeling young. Stress also contributes to a plethora of illnesses as well as reducing the required defense of your immune system.

Even having a pet can help help reduce stress. If you have an animal spend time stroking and loving it. Studies show this this helps reduce stress and anxiety.

Get plenty of rest so that your system keeps an even healthy balance. If you cannot sleep try getting more exercise during the day and try doing exercises like yoga. Any type of exercise is great though. Find something that you enjoy doing which invites restful sleep at night. workout

When I am stressed I take a hot bath which relaxes me. I add olive oil or coconut oil to help my skin. Dimming the lights or turning off the light and burning a candle or candles also helps a great deal to relax.

Morning routine- In the morning make sure your face is clean. Put your favorite moisturizer on when it soaks in then use an SPF of 15 or higher to protect your face and neck. Now a days many of the base makeups have an SPF. This is one of the most important steps to protect you from the damaging rays of the sun. Re apply ever few hours. If you are in direct sun you may even want to wear a hat.

Also don’t forget to apply to you body the moisturizer and an SPF for any exposed body parts. Aging takes place over the whole body so do not ignore pampering and protecting it.DSC_8863

Teeth- The mouth and the face are the first things that other people look at. Teeth are a strong indicator of beauty and health.

Floss after breakfast to release the food that is automatically impacted beneath the gums which house the bacteria that cause not only bad breath but also feeds bacteria to cause multiple serious diseases throughout the entire body. Additionally, it is easy for others to see when the mouth and smile have not been taken care of. Yellow or brown teeth and bad looking gums age a person greatly. If you want to maintain your youth and beauty please floss and brush after every meal and especially before bed.

Vitamins- Because I work out hard, I like to take a multiple vitamin to ensure I am getting all I need for my body.

Night routine- At night, before bedtime is a great time to help your body, since it repairs itself at its best when you are sleeping, so that any preparation at night will aid in optimal repair.

Skin- At night exfoliate your skin with a gentle cleanser or wash with honey. Put on a moisturizer. I also use retinol cream to finish. I use it a few times a week and only a pea size for my whole face and neck. Put a light moisturizer on your body at night as well.

Lashes- For my Lashes I use Revitalash every night as it works well and having long thick lashes is a sign of youth and beauty. This is most important as lashes tend to lessen as we age. There are other lash products on the market so find one that works for you if you want to maintain a beautiful full set of lashes.

Hydration- Before bed drink some water. This is very important and your body will love you. Fill up a glass of water and have it near your bed so if you get thirsty you can drink it throughout the night. Hydration will aid in keeping your body looking and functioning its best. I use purified water.

teeth- brush and floss. You can also do a teeth whitening when you feel you need it to keep those pearly whites. There are many brands available.

If you follow all these rules then you should be well on your way to maintaining your youth and beauty.

Have you ever heard this? Girl, I’m going to skip breakfast and lunch, so I can drop a few pounds before the party tonight, then when I get there, get my grub on. Now, tell me do you really think that will work? FALSE, as a matter of fact you are doing more harm than good to your body. Skipping meals puts your body in starvation mode. It will hold on to everything you have stored, because it thinks this could be it’s last meal. Your brain turns to mush and you can’t focus, plus you get hangry. Yeah, you heard me, hangry is real (hungry and anger). You know as well as I do that you are most definitely going to that party and going overboard on the eating. Trust me I know. When your blood sugar drops, you are just not yourself. You lash out and become very mean. Beyond being mean, you self-sabotage by over-eating when you finally get your hands on food. Binge eating happens and then you end up GAINING weight, which was your reason for skipping meals in the first place, was to lose weight. So don’t skip meals, eat sensibly, without having heavy meals but put something in your body so you can function. You must feed your body in order to lose weight, I know it sounds crazy, but it is true.

Come on guys say it with me ”Everybody in my family is big boned!” Hmm, have you ever seen a big-boned skeleton? I haven’t but, I have tried to use this one myself! But it is false! Your genetics make up 70% of your size, 10% diet and 10% fitness. We, as a family tend to be about the same size because we eat the same way. We generally have the same eating habits. Let’s break the cycle. It really isn’t as hard as you think. Something you can do today to make a change, eat one healthy meal today, go ahead make your next meal balanced, appropriate portions and full of leafy vegetables.

Here is another one we have all heard “I don’t eat after 8pm, I don’t want to gain weight.” This is so FALSE. Unless you go to bed at 8 you should still give your body fuel. If you are awake your body is still functioning. You should eat every 3 to 4 hours no matter the time. I am not saying eat a big mac and fries late at night but eat something like nuts, fruit, and even popcorn. You want something light and satisfying so that your metabolism keeps working. The only time you don’t eat is when you are asleep, hence breakfast! You wake up and eat, breaking that fast! You have to eat to lose weight (remember myth #2, no starving the body).

I think I am so, over this, let me repeat so OVER people doing this! It is FALSE you are not going to lose weight just because you are going vegetarian. Elephants are vegetarian and they are not skinny. However, the lions are meat eaters and they are lean, fast and powerful. Just because you are given up meat doesn’t mean that your food doesn’t have calories. It is true if you stop eating meat and are eating plant based food, eating more fruits and vegetables, which tend to be less calories and really filling, you can lose weight. But if your idea of being a vegetarian is eating larger portions of high calories food like French fries, creamy pasty and of course that wonderful veggie pizza then you are most likely going to gain weight. The key is to eat a balanced meal, proper portions even with meat! Me myself I love being a Lioness!

True or False: Eating all you want because I exercise

I saved the best for last! Because this was surely me! It is False. I was that chick who was at the gym every morning at 5:30am when they opened, did my cardio, hit the weights and ate EVERYTHING I wanted. Oh yeah, I was a size 24. I would totally tell myself, I can eat this, I work out! Well so not true! Losing weight is very simple, it’s all about the numbers, calories in vs. calories out! Math is not my favorite subject but hey, I figured it out. In order to lose weight, I had to burn more calories than I consume, simple!
