“Do This Not That” On Studio 10

Today On Studio 10 I share some makeup tips and tricks to help avoid some common beauty blunders.

Me on Studio 10

Me on Studio 10

Watch the segment here: http://bcove.me/cf4an222

1. Eyeliner- It is best to use cream eyeliners that come in pots rather than a pencil. Cream eyeliners do not tug on the skin. When applying the eyeliner avoid wearing it on the lower lash line which can cause the “saggy” look. Apply to upper lash line in a 45 degree angle on the outer corner. Also use beige or off white eyeliner in the lower rims to reduce the appearance of eye redness.

2. Eye shadow- Avoid using browns and blacks. Use gold, mauves and even blue greys to add a more open and “lifting” effect to your eyes.

3. Our hands tell our age and of course, many women want to keep that a secret! Most women think that as our hands age we must use a soft, neutral nail color like beige, sheer, & light pink. The truth is that we should actually use a bright bold color to distract the eye from the hand and instead to the nails. Make sure your color is opaque and vibrant such as fuchsia, hot pink, orange and even blues.

4. Lipstick- Lipstick ties the overall makeup look together. As we age our lips tend to get thinner, get wrinkles and lines start to develop. When picking out your lipstick shade keep in mind that light colors make lips look bigger while dark colors tend to make lips look smaller. But you still can wear bright bold colors. In this case tone down eye makeup when going with a bold lip. Stay glossy rather than matte and be sure to use lip liner. To make lips look bigger draw on the outer line of your lip to give a full pout.

5. Last but not least – Our hair can also show many signs of aging. Next time you go to color your hair consider going darker. When using a lightener, it can cause the hair strands to look thinner therefore making hair seem like it is thinning. Darker colors add the look of density and fullness. Talk to your stylist about the options.

Beauty Tips and Tricks-Studio 10

See as I share these great Beauty Tips and Tricks on Studio 10!

Proper way to comb wet hair (straight or curly) ( I will bring my mannequin head I used in beauty school to demonstrate)- After shampooing and conditioning you want to make sure the hair is damp. Next take a wide toothed comb and section your hair horizontally starting from the bottom up. This will keep your hair from being pulled out and will make it a lot less painful.

Instead of microfiber towels use this- Now we have plenty of these around the house am I right? I am talking about t-shirts. Did you know that using microfiber towels can actually cause hair breakage and hair loss. SO next time you get out of the shower have a cotton fiber t-shirt sitting next to you and use that to wrap your hair.

Best way to shampoo and condition hair (especially if it is color treated)- When shampooing your hair don’t use more than a nickel size amount and only focus on your scalp. Do not ball your hair at the top of your head. Use your fingertips to massage your scalp and work into a lather. rinse hair and let shampoo run down the ends of your hair. Make sure you use a shampoo with low pH balance such as the ones found in your salon. Next to condition only use a nickel size and this time focus on the ends of your hair. RInse with cool water to help lock in moisture and also to help lock in color. If your hair is color treated especially redheads wash hair 2-3 times a week.

At home remedy for red heads- Aside from using shampoo and conditioner that is made specifically for color treated hair, a great at home remedy to help maintain redheads is rinsing your hair with cranberry juice. YES cranberry juice. We have all heard from our parents be careful cranberry juice stains. Its the same idea for your hair. After shampooing and conditioning your hair take a bottle of cranberry juice turn your head upside down in the shower and pour the cranberry juice on your hair and allow the water to run clear before flipping your head back over (tip: do this BEFORE you shave your legs)

The Villages Salon Professional Academy: Where It All Began

With this blog I will be going in a different direction. This is not a product review but a school review! My beauty school, The Salon Professional Academy in The Villages, FL, to be exact the place where this all started. I was asked to be a guest judge at The Decades of Fashion Scholarship Fashion Show on Thursday July 24. The minute I stepped back into my school I felt like I was home. 4 years ago I spent my days in there learning and yearning for more. It was there I became passionate about all things beauty and here it is 4 years later I am taking my passion to the next level, at It’s A Glam Thing, with my blogging, YouTube reviews and T.V. appearances. Even though I didn’t believe my educators at the time, licensed hairstylists can really do more than just have a license and stand behind the chair.

Students and their models

Students and their models

While at the show I got to judge the students on their presentation of the decades they were given. Starting in the 1940s to the present day, each student was graded on hair, makeup, clothes, and even the stage prop their models held while showcasing the decade. Even though they were all good, many really blew me away. Many times I had to remind myself they were students because many of the looks looked like they had been done by someone with 20 years in the industry. The three winners were Antoinette Bradley who won 1st place with her “USO Girl” of the 1940s, Dessiree Figueroa in 2nd place with her 1980s “Cyndi Lauper”, and Sabrina Langston in 3rd place with her “Disco Diva” of the 1970s. These three girls were awarded with scholarships towards their tuition. My two other fellow judges were stylist and Salon Jaylee Southern Trace owner Lindsey Glen who also is the proTENAJ Artistic Director, TECH Artist for Kerastase, stylist, host on FOX Good Day Orlando and TSPA alumni Erin Mills.

After the show Erin and I were asked to speak to the students about our journey through the industry such as our ups and downs and to just be a positive reinforcement for the students. I really enjoyed getting to tell the students how my first year in the industry was definitely an eye opener. I told my story of the day I met Lisa Cocuzza and that changed my life all from standing behind the chair. When I said that my career in blogging and T.V. started just from being behind the chair I could tell that inspired many of them. It also showed them that you don’t just have to stand behind the chair everyday in this industry. There are so many avenues you can take. I also realized that being a positive reinforcement for many of them is another thing I am very passionate about.
I know this may sound crazy but being back inside the walls of TSPA I found the Annie that for a while there, faded away. She’s back and is not leaving again. So are you ready for a career in this awesome industry? Do you want to become someone who people love and adore every single day? Then you need The Villages Salon Professional Academy. They will help you become a top 20 and once you do that you will always be grateful. Be sure to visit them at www.thevillagestspa.com and start your career now!

U.S Postage Just Got HOT!

Car Enthusiast Barry Meguiar Helps Launch New Hot Rods Forever® Stamps at the National Street Rod Association East plus Conference

U.S. Hot Rods Stamp

U.S. Hot Rods Stamp

Hot Rods have captured the attention of people across America since the 1920s, when people began souping-up their engines and transforming their cars for drag racing and exhibition. The world of customized cars still thrives today and is showcased throughout American pop culture in movies, television, car shows and museums.

Now, the U.S. Postal Service is paying tribute to one of America’s favorite hobbies. The U.S. Postal Service honors the “Best of America” by introducing limited-edition stamps that celebrate various American passions, including hot rods. The new stamps appeal to automotive buffs of all ages, celebrating the fast, powerful vehicles that thrill-seekers have been modifying for nearly a century. Be sure to check these stamps out at your local Gainesville, FL Post Office.

Each of the two stamps showcase an iconic 1932 Ford “Deuce” roadster, the most popular hot rod model of its time. The stamps will be available for purchase at major Post Office™ locations across the country and online at usps.com/stamps and ebay.com/stamps.

Barry Meguiar, lifelong car enthusiast, president of Meguiar’s Car Wax and host of “Car Crazy” Television, unveiled the new limited-edition Hot Rods Forever® stamps at the National Street Rod Association (NSRA) Nationals East plus Conference in York, PA.

Barry Meguiar is president of Meguiar’s, Inc. and represents the third generation of the family business his grandfather founded in 1901. He was born in Southern California where the car hobby began shortly after. He currently hosts “Car Crazy” on the Velocity Channel. The show originally began airing on the SPEED channel over 17 years ago when car shows were suffering in attendance and car clubs were decreasing in number. Barry decided to step up with a TV show focused on uniting and growing the global car hobby community.

In this interview Barry discusses

–       His personal hot rodding experience

–       What he thinks of this year’s conference

proTENAJ styleINFLECTION Body & Shine Foam: Your Answer for Awesome Hair

Everywhere I look it seems “big hair” is making a huge comeback. I can remember hearing stories from my mom about how beehives, and the “ratting” style were the look to have. I am sure that nowadays we women would not want to style our hair into something called the beehive, but we are definitely looking for ways to add body to our hair. Every product I have used to add body has never done what it says it should do. Many leave my hair feeling stiff, looking dull and that dreaded frizz always pops up every time I walk outside.

It was not until recently that I found a product that not only adds life to my dull hair, but adds incredible shine, is humidity resistant, and does not make my hair feel stiff. It is the proTENAJ styleINFLECTION Body & Shine Foam. This amazing, and unique, product starts off as a gel and emulsifies into a mousse when dispensed into your hand and can be used in some very creative ways. I have never been the kind of person who likes to follow directions (lol) so when I get a product to try, I always try something different than what it says I SHOULD do. How else can you experiment if you don’t think outside the box right?

TENAJ_Style_body_&_shine_foam

Having naturally curly hair, I always dry my hair with a diffuser. I applied a dime size amount (a little goes a long way) to my hand and let it emulsify to the mousse. Then I applied it to wet hair being sure to get it underneath the root. Then I did my usual blow dry routine just making sure I activated it the most at the root. Now when I diffused my hair to get my curls to activate, I used to get curls that looked like I had stuck them in a can of hairspray because they stick together, With the Body & Shine Foam you will never have stiff, sticky hair that stays in one spot. You can place the hair anywhere you want it to be.

Although one day I decided not to curl my hair but going for a sleeker, smoother look. After washing and towel drying my hair I applied the Body & Shine Foam in my hair, just like when I diffused it, and round brushed my hair to smooth out the curl. The minute I activated the hair with heat and the round brush, I swear I had never seen that much shine in my hair EVER. I was amazed at how soft, and shiny my hair looked and felt. I almost didn’t recognize my hair. The next thing I had to test was the humidity resistance. When I blow my hair out straight that seems to be the time I get the most frizz. But it did stand up to that test. Even when I was in Key West, which is even further south, my hair lasted all day with no frizzJ. I was soooooo happy I can’t even begin to tell you how shocked I was.

That day I round brushed my hair I had gotten such an amazing style out of it that the next day I didn’t feel like washing my hair and trying for it again. So this is where this unique product showed that it is truly amazing. I still had the style intact from the day before but having slept on it the body was gone. Not being one to freak out over something like that, I grabbed the proTENAJ styleINFLECTION Body & Shine Foam and pumped a very little amount into my hands. I applied it to my previously styled hair and took my hair dryer to the areas I had applied it too. My hair was back in the style I had the previous day and looked like I had spent all day doing it. I was, again, sold on the proTENAJ products. You can see my interview on their YouTube channel for tips and tricks on the proTENAJ Body & Shine Foam at www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jjthPMDaW4&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PLboOh05yB5_sQ5A3e0igagpHBVyw7YTXM

Miracles Do Happen

TENAJ_Style_miracle_leave_in_potion

I never thought miracles could be captured in a bottle until a few months ago. Before proTENAJ styleINFLECTION Miracle Leave-In Potion, I had given up on trying to control this crazy lion’s mane I call hair. It was unmanageable, dull, crunchy and lacked any shine. I hated my hair. When I started using the proTENAJ styleINFLECTION Miracle Leave-In Potion, I gained a love for my hair again!

Carolina now

This wonderful product is lightweight and leaves your hair smoothed, conditioned and frizz free. Not only is the proTENAJ styleINFLECTION Miracle Leave-In Potion great to define your curls, but is great for all girls and guys hair types too!!! (Yes, guys have frizz too!!!). Since this product will not weigh your hair down, hair that is fine or straight will not feel like you put glue in your hair. Just run a few drops through your hair when it is wet, blow dry or let air dry and see for yourself the difference in just ONE use.

proTENAJ was created here in the sunshine state and has changed the way many people look at their hair. Even our very own beauty and lifestyle expert Enya Flack agrees. Being a professional actress, Enya is always on and off the camera, so great hair is a must for her. She tried the proTENAJ styleINFLECTION Miracle Leave-In Potion before its debut on the “ Carolina Now Morning Show” and said she loves this product.
