5 Ways to Be Modest Yet Stylish

When choosing an outfit, either for a regular day at work in the office, a casual lunch date with your friends or a more intimate and romantic evening with your partner, it can sometimes be hard to strike the balance between highlighting your strong points whilst retaining a modicum of modesty and decency.

So, whether you are currently looking to put together a specific item for a certain event, or just simply searching for some style inspiration, here are five ways to be modest yet stylish!

  • Maxi & Midi Skirts

A fantastic way to keep your body covered, yet be able to look dazzling and stand-out at any event, is to experiment with both midi and maxi skirts.

Spend some time perusing the high street and searching online for reputable and unique stores, such as Sweet Salt Clothing, for a wide range of beautiful skirts that are as striking as they are affordable and invest in several key pieces that suit both your personality and key tones.

  • Wide Leg & Palazzo Pants

If you are someone who generally prefers not to wear skirts, regardless of length, yet still want to dress for the summer and not have to stick to dark colored tailored trousers, then the answer is simple: palazzo pants.

Palazzo pants are loose trousers with an exceedingly wide leg and can be worn either high up on the waist or around the hips for a looser fit. Not only is this style of trouser comfortable and elegant, but palazzo pants are also ideal for the warmer spring and summer months.

  • Ornate Collars

For those who prefer to keep the upper part of their body covered-up, one fantastic option is to invest in a few tops and shirts that display ornate and fancy collars and cuffs.

From peter pan collars to pearl trims, there’s a myriad of different styles to choose from and what’s more, you can even invest in a detachable collar to liven up a plain shirt or top.

  • Cropped Sweaters

If you have already seen one or two dresses that you absolutely adore, yet are either too low-cut or else sleeveless, making you feel wary of wearing these dresses in public, then why not purchase a couple of cropped sweaters, one in black and the other in white.

This way, you can pair your new dresses with a neutral-colored cropped sweater which will keep your upper body covered, while showing off the beautiful colors and patterns of your dresses.

  • Sew Your Own!

Finding the dress or matching two-piece of your dreams may be difficult to discover; you may want a particular style and color that fits you just so… If you are a dab-hand at sewing, why not put your talents to good use and make your own.

Choosing to make your own garments from scratch, means that you can pick the type of fabric you’d like, to create the perfect look for you. What’s more, you’ll not only be wearing your ideal creations– you can be sure they’re absolutely unique!

Habits That Hurt Hair

(New York, NY) – “No one wants damaged hair…yet the daily habits of many people are contributing to dryness and breakage, and they don’t even realize it. Knowing what to do and what to avoid is important.  These are some of the steps I share with my guests to help minimize habits that hurt their hair,” explains Teresa Romero, Sam Villa Artistic Director and Artistic/Education Director for Jose Luis Salon @_teresa_romero.

  1. Using the Wrong Shampoo and Conditioner: As lifestyle, health and styling habits change so should the products used to address solutions to problems.  And remember to always use conditioner – it replenishes much needed moisture and protein.
  2. Technique:  Avoid rubbing shampoo into the ends, instead, gently massage shampoo on scalp and pull through ends using fingers like a comb. For even saturation of conditioner, use fingers or a large tooth comb to distribute in a downward motion.
  3. Scalp Health:  An unhealthy scalp creates an unhealthy environment for hair to grow in. Use a hair cleansing treatment 1-2 times per month to remove buildup on the scalp so hair can thrive.
  4. Combing/Brushing Wet Hair:  Hair stretches when wet making it vulnerable to breaking. To minimize, use a large tooth comb or wet brush when detangling wet hair and treat it gently.
  5. Twisting or Pulling: Don’t pull or twist hair throughout the day out of habit/stress, the tension will cause breakage. Leaving hair wrapped tightly in a towel, pulling too tightly for braids/ponytails/knots and up styles can also contribute to breakage.
  6. Hair Extensions: There are many application techniques for adding hair, to minimize damage, choose techniques with the least amount of damage for the hair type.  And educate guests on how to maintain extensions at home, as well as how often they should be removed/reapplied.
  7. Thermal Styling: Older styling tools or improper heat settings can cause damage. Turn down the heat and/or use tools with color treated settings, like many of the Sam Villa irons and blow dryers.  And ALWAYS use products that provide heat protection when styling, Redken and Mizani have many.

But before you can choose the right shampoo or conditioner, you must conduct thorough research on your hair type and the right hair products to use. Your research should also identify the right hair repair solution to fix your hair issues. Your research should also help you identify harmful products to your hair health and how to use your preferred hair products for maximum results.

Read This Before You Try the Latest Viral Tik Tok Beauty Trends!

www.bitarinstitute.com

According to recent statistics, the viral app Tik Tok has reached over 1 billion monthly users. (Source: https://www.cnbc.com/2021/09/27/tiktok-reaches-1-billion-monthly-users.html) With several beauty trends going viral on a daily basis, it can be tempting to experiment with these DIY and less expensive solutions than in-office cosmetic surgery visits. However, some of these hacks are at best ineffective or downright dangerous.

Board-Certified Washington, DC Plastic Surgeon Dr. George Bitar breaks down the most popular Tik Tok beauty hacks you should avoid.

What is it? Liquid Chlorophyll

It’s a liquid tonic that users make at home that purports to be an acne cure-all and improves skin’s texture and redness.

Why you should steer clear: Drinking chlorophyll-infused water to get rid of acne or improve your skin can worsen your skin condition.

What is it? At-Home Hyaluron Pens

The Hyaluron Pen (also known as hyaluronic acid pen) is a small handheld medical device used to administer hyaluronic acid fillers into the face. This “pen” was originally created for diabetic patients to offer a needle-free, pain-free way to deliver insulin into the subcutaneous tissue. The pens took TikTok users by storm for their supposed potential to inject the lips, jawline or nose with hyaluronic acid at home.

Why you should steer clear:

You should never be giving yourself lip procedures or any aesthetic rejuvenation at home. At the advisory of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), “no one should be purchasing a hyaluron pen due to the fact that they can cause bleeding or bruising; infection with bacteria, fungus, or virus from the filler or needle-free device, among several other side effects, including death.” Don’t ever try this at home. Injectables may cause occlusion of blood vessels leading to skin death and possibly blindness in the most experienced hands, so when someone who is not familiar with facial anatomy injects themselves, they could cause a catastrophe!

What is it? At home nasal tanning spray

These products, showcased on TikTok, aren’t strictly self-tanners. Instead, they’re inhaled as nasal sprays to boost the effects of sun exposure or a tanning bed.

Why you should steer clear: You shouldn’t be inhaling substances that haven’t been studied sufficiently, as using medications nasally can affect your sense of smell. They can also potentially have toxic effects on the cilia of the nose, keeping the nose from moving mucus through it normally. This can lead to mucus buildup throughout the nasal cavity, which thickens and forces you to blow out or postnasal drip. Melanotan is an unregulated synthetic chemical that functions as a hormone and supports melanogenesis, which is the process by which melanin, a black-brown pigment, is produced in the skin. Nasal tanning sprays have a range of different ingredients, but most commonly, they will all contain tyrosine or melanotan as their main active ingredient.

What is it: Sea Salt Acne Spray

A DIY spray consisting of sea salt and water to eradicate acne.

Why you should steer clear:

Sea salt water at best may help with mild skin inflammation and redness. This is not a viable treatment for acne. It could delay proper care and cause hyperpigmentation and potential scarring due to its use.

What is it? At-Home Plasma Pen Treatments

The devices look not so different from a mechanical toothbrush — but instead of a brush head, plasma pens have a needle-like tip. However, the tip never touches the skin — it’s merely the means through which an arc of plasma passes. The process is said to make skin firmer and tighter by inducing trauma that triggers skin cells called fibroblasts to produce more collagen.

Why you should steer clear:

You should not be purchasing a plasma pen to achieve “firmer and tighter” skin. The risks associated with using this pen are quite severe. Inflicting pain on the skin with this device removes its proteins, causing the skin to lose its suppleness. It also poses a risk of causing pitting and scars. What’s more, the pens are not monitored by the FDA. A more professional version of this pen is used in plastic surgeons’ and dermatologists’ offices. It requires a lot of training to be able to treat a patient without burning them. If a lay person uses this pen, they are at risk of causing themselves second and third degree burns if used improperly.

What is it? Scraping off Moles At Home

Some people have been using chemicals or even attempting to scrape off moles physically at home. One peculiar method recommends applying eyelash glue to skin.

Why you should steer clear:

All moles be checked by a professional before removal. There is no ‘safe’ way to remove a mole at home. This needs to be done by a trained qualified doctor or dermatologist. Using chemicals or attempting to ‘scrape’ off a mole could lead to infections, bleeding, scarring, and deformity.

A more compelling reason to not scrape moles at home is that moles originate in the dermis and therefore scraping the skin will only make them regrow after the endured trauma heals. Another reason to not scrape moles is that some moles can be cancerous, even on teenagers, and by scraping them without a physician examining them, cancer cells will still remain to regrow later.

What it is: Erection cream lip pout

One man caused shockwaves across social media for using erectile dysfunction cream to create plumper lips. These creams designed to boost erections typically rely on alprostadil, a type of vasodilator that widens blood vessels.

Why you should steer clear:

This can cause allergic reactions, blisters and swelling, but it can also cause blood pressure problems if the cream gets into your mouth. The lips are made of thin and delicate skin with fewer oil glands. Let’s just end this by saying that technology is fascinating and adaptable, but just because there is a remote connection between a cosmetic problem and the technology to address it doesn’t mean that a non- medically trained layperson should take that leap of faith and self- medicate. The emergency rooms around the world are filled with these people!

How to Plan the Perfect Road Trip

For many people, the opportunity to get out on the open road provides the ultimate feeling of freedom. However, a road trip is an endeavor that takes some time and energy to ensure that you get it right. Otherwise, it is more than likely that all sorts of other problems are going to spring up as a result of your lack of planning. So, here are a few tips and tricks that can seriously help you out in the planning stages.

Ready Your Vehicle

First of all, you need to have a good, steady vehicle that is going to get you to your destination. If you are planning on renting a car or you are checking out minibus leasing as you have a larger party that you would like to transport, it is certainly worth doing this sooner rather than later. If you are going to be using your own car, it is still worth ensuring that you complete all of the basic maintenance checks, such as checking the oil and tire pressure. You should also make sure that it is fully filled up. All of this can make a big difference in ensuring that you are less likely to encounter any vehicle issues out on the open road.

Research the Trip

Next up on the list, there is certainly a lot that you can be doing in terms of researching the trip itself. While you may not want to have a complete itinerary set in stone, you can still make sure that you plan out all the basics including who will be driving, the potential rest stops, what you want to see along the way etc. You should also look out for any major road works or public holiday events that could end up causing a huge buildup of traffic.

Pack the Car Wisely

What you put in the vehicle can then end up making a big difference towards the overall success or failure of the road trip. For example, you do not want to be lugging around anything unnecessary, but you do need to ensure that you have emergency equipment. At the same time, think about drinks and snacks along the road. You can also prepare your entertainment in advance. For example, you may well want to put together the ultimate road trip playlist on Spotify.

Sort Out Your Budget

Your road trip can really start to spiral out of control in terms of the budget if you are not all that careful. So, you should certainly make sure that this is not the case. To begin with, you are certainly going to need to work out if everyone is splitting the costs equally. This certainly becomes easier than ever thanks to the advent of internet banking apps. You could also try to book certain activities and accommodation in advance as a way of not paying more than you have to.

All of these are steps that can make all the difference in planning the perfect road trip.

Reclaim Your Body Post Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a joyous and beautiful time in your life. Ask any mother and they will tell you that the feeling of something that you created, living inside of you is absolutely magical. The first time your baby kicks will become a memory that stays with you for decades or perhaps even a lifetime. However, a pregnancy can also take its toll on your body. It impacts you physically, mentally, and emotionally. The stresses of pregnancy also last longer than the moment that your little one enters the world. Some people never fully recover from pregnancy and struggle to get their health back on track.

There are plenty of women who are okay with this. They’re fine letting go of their toned physique and they are happily embracing the cliche mum look. However, if you do want to reclaim your body and your health post-pregnancy, then there are steps that you can take.

sleeping newborn

Get Sleep

First, you should make sure that you are getting enough sleep. It takes a lot of work and effort to get your body and your health back on track after a pregnancy. But you’ll only be able to do this if you get the right amount of sleep. A little further down we’re going to discuss the importance of exercise to ensure that you are getting your body back in shape. The key point to be aware of here is that exercise won’t do anything unless you are getting the right amount of sleep. To build muscle or lower levels of fat, your body has to have the right level of rest. Without it, your whole routine is going to be pointless.

Unfortunately, getting enough sleep as a new mum tends to be easier said than done. There are a few reasons for this. The first point to be aware of is babies often aren’t on a great sleeping schedule. This means that your only choice is to sleep when they sleep. If you’re breastfeeding, then you’ll be up at weird times anyway and there’s no way to avoid this. That’s why it’s incredibly difficult to get back in shape in the first couple of months. However, after your baby settles into a more traditional sleep routine, you can make significant strides here and that’s the goal you should aim for.

Do be aware that there are lots of different things that can impact your sleep pattern. For instance, you should definitely remove the tech from your room when you’re sleeping. This can be incredibly disruptive and stop you from reaching the deepest level of sleep.

Workout

Next, you should think about exploring completing the right workout. Depending on your type of pregnancy, you can start working out a few weeks after you give birth. However, it’s important to make sure that you don’t put too much pressure on your body. If you do this, then there’s a chance that you could cause an injury or you might find that you leave yourself feeling drained. This is the last thing that you want if you need to look after a newborn baby.

So what type of workout is going to be right for you? Well, you can try exercise routines that are not too intense but deliver real results such as yoga. A side benefit of yoga is that it will also provide significant benefits to your mental health at the same time.

Do be aware that sometimes the results of a workout can be more limited than you hoped. For instance, if you have had more than one child it’s unlikely that sit-ups will allow you to get rid of the mum-tum. If this is concerning you, then you can explore options like a tummy tuck. Not all tummy tucks are invasive. If you look at a mini tummy tuck versus tummy tuck procedure, you’ll see that there are significant differences in terms of the treatment.

Improve Your Diet

When you are pregnant it can be quite common to ‘eat for two’. This is fine as you need to feed yourself as well as your unborn baby. However, once your baby has been born you need to be aware of what you are eating. A tricky problem you can run into is if you decide to breastfeed your baby, this can lead to you feeling incredibly hungry. This is due to your body burning excess calories while it is producing more milk on a supply and demand system.

healthy snack, healthy pregnancy food

There are healthy snacks that you can enjoy if the hunger pangs get too much for you. Carrot sticks or other vegetables such as cucumber for example. If you are struggling to control portion sizes and what goes onto your plate then take some time out to research what is good for you and what can fill you up for longer. You could ask a professional such as a nutritionist or dietician for help.

As well as your diet and what you are eating, it is equally important to drink at least eight glasses or two liters of water a day. This helps your body and mind stay hydrated throughout the day, without this, you can begin to feel the effects of dehydration.

De-Stress

This one might seem impossible, you have just had a baby and they take up a lot of your time during the day and night. Once you have worked out a solid routine for yourself and your baby you will have more time to yourself to do the things you love and enjoy. This can be something as simple as taking a bath or reading a book. Once your baby is taking longer naps and potentially sleeping through the night, these will all be possible.

However, you need to be wary of your stress levels as this can cause you to gain weight in places you don’t want it. Stress can also lead to comfort eating which is an unhealthy spiral to get trapped in. Try and find ways to manage your stress levels, if family or friends offer to babysit for you then don’t be afraid to accept this help.

Find The Right Beauty Routine

Finally, in order to feel more like yourself again rather than just ‘a mum’ then think about introducing a beauty routine. You may be worried about not having enough time in the day to factor this in but it doesn’t have to take you long. You can do this while your baby is having their morning nap or while they are enjoying some time in their baby bouncer. Make sure that you are using the right products for your skin. There are different skin types and using the wrong products can do more harm than good.

Take a look online for beauty advice and how to find the right products. You might want to invest in a good quality moisturizer to apply before your makeup. This will help keep your skin healthy and hydrated during the day.

We hope this helps you understand some of the key steps that you can take to reclaim your body after pregnancy. In doing so, you can regain your confidence and ensure that you are happier about the way you look when you catch your reflection in the mirror. You’ll be better mentally too because you’ll be looking after yourself. This is always going to have a positive impact on the way you feel as well as the way that you look. It’s just a case of taking the right steps that you need.

5 Signs You May Be Ready for Marriage

pexels.com wedding

Some people always expect that they’ll get married one day. Others have no interest in getting hitched. The truth is, it really doesn’t matter what you feel when you’re young; once you’re an adult, there are too many variables at play. Many people end up changing their minds about their wishes for various reasons. Even if you want to get married, it’s worthwhile checking that you’re actively ready to embark on the journey.

So how do you know that marriage might be part of your future? Let’s take a look at some telltale signs.

Other Weddings Are About More Than The Party

People love to see their friends and family happy and are thrilled to join them for their big day! But the thing that most people focus on is the party section of the day. The ceremony is good, but the food and dancing are where it’s at. Or at least, that’s the case when marriage isn’t on your mind. If you’re at a wedding, and you find yourself falling in love with the ceremony, and having some ideas about what you would do, then you’ll be moving in the right direction.

You’ve Lived A Life

It’s possible to live a full life when you’re married, of course, but in most cases, there’ll be certain restrictions on what you can do. The majority of people that get married sink into a routine. Plus, you’ll just generally be less free to do whatever you want. There are sacrifices involved in getting married; you gain a lot, sure, but there are also sacrifices. If you’re happy with what you’ve done in your life, and you don’t feel like you’ll miss out in the future, then marriage could be right for you!

You’re Doing Your Research

You’ll know that marriage is in your future if you’re doing a lot of research on everything related to marriage. You could be browsing online engagement rings reviews, looking up the world’s best wedding venues, or mentally writing a speech that you’d like to deliver in front of your friends and family. These aren’t things that people who are not thinking about marriage do. If you are, then you could be in line to get hitched pretty soon!

You Understand What It Takes

No one said that being married would be easy. They just said that it’d be worth it. It’s easy to daydream about the wedding party and so forth, but it’s arguably more important to have a real idea of what a successful marriage looks like. If you’re under no illusions, then you could be ready to embark on the journey.

It’s The Natural Progression

Finally, you could also be ready for marriage if you simply view it as a natural progression in your relationship. Sometimes, you just know that you’re going to be with a person forever. There are some instances when you should really think about a marriage, but if you’ve been together for a decade and never want to leave, you can probably get hitched!

Getting Your Wardrobe Summer Ready

clothes on clothesline

Summer is fast approaching, which means we have longer days, warmer temperatures and better weather all round. It’s not all too surprising that many of us are turning to our wardrobes and rifling through, looking for outfits that not only look brighter, but are more comfortable for the warmer and hotter days too. Now, you may have a few items tucked away, but you may find that you need to invest in some more summer essentials to provide yourself with a summer wardrobe to be proud of. Here are a few items that you might want to look into and give a try!

Underwear

Of course, few people have specifically summer or winter related underwear. But you may find in the summer months that you do need a few different pairs of pants and bras to suit the weather and what you’re wearing. Large granny pants may be supportive, but they might not allow as much airflow as you need, creating sweaty circumstances. You may also find that you need the best strapless bras to wear with strapless summer dresses or tops that you may wish to wear.

Dresses

Speaking of summer dresses, you may want to ensure that you’ve got a few. Whether that’s to wear for your usual day to day routine or if you have an event coming up where you’d like to look particularly nice – perhaps a lunch, brunch, BBQ or day trip. Summer dresses often tend to be made from light and flowing material, allowing more airflow to the legs and other areas of your body. They tend to have short or no sleeves, thin straps and generally expose more of your body to the sun and breeze. There are countless styles to choose from, varying between tea dresses, swing dresses, maxi dresses and more. Browse different options and give them a try to see what suits your tastes.

Hats

In the winter, you may wear a variety of hats to keep your head warm. But that doesn’t mean hats are completely out for summer. Instead, they simply serve a different purpose. In summer, hats can be great for shielding your head, scalp and face from the sun, preventing excess sun exposure and potential sunburn. They can also shade you from the sun’s light, allowing you to see better. They tend to be made from more lightweight and breathable materials, such as straw, which can allow the breeze to pass through and provides ventilation, allowing heat to escape from your head and cooling you down.

Footwear

Summer footwear can vary from your usual wardrobe too. Sandals, flip flops, sliders and other lightweight and loose footwear tends to be a lot more popular at this time of year. You should make sure you have plenty of options to choose from, suitable for everything from lounging in the garden to heading to the shops or attending more formal events. The best shoes for summer let your feet breathe, preventing sweating and allowing air exposure to your feet.

Hopefully, some of the suggestions will be just what you’re looking for for the summer months!
