The Final Five

olympics-team-j-800

I loved watching the Olympics. The U.S. women’s gymnastics team impressed me. I can’t imagine all the time, dedication and practice it takes to get to the Games, much less participate in them. The ladies of the team looked so happy doing what they love to do– and they did it well!

For me, the gymnastics competition was kind of like watching a football game where it comes down to the last minute to see who wins. Midway through their events, the U.S. team led by four points and then they came in first place outdistancing their biggest competition, Russia, by 8.209 points. This was a pretty big deal because it was the first time the U.S. women’s gymnastics team won back-to-back Olympic golds. They were #1 in 2012 and now they’re #1 again– that’s pretty amazing.

I also liked how the team chose a nickname, “The Final Five.” It reminded me of how you have to not only think of what you want your goal to be, in life, but also write it down, name it, tell others about it, etc. These ladies– Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian, Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, and Gabby Douglas– showed the world how young ladies can reach their dreams. They sure did inspire me, and I’m thinking there’s a whole generation of young women who look up to them, too.

xoxo, Lizzy

Tricks of the Brow Trade

unnamed

Tips from Boom Boom aka Malynda Vigliotti: Sculpted brows have become an everyday essential…just look around, there’s hardly an arch out of place these days. Whether seeking professional help or DIYing it, there are some tips and tricks to having a brow game on point.   Boom Boom, owner of Boom Boom Brow Bar, shares her tricks of the brow trade.

  1. Don’t neglect the area above brows – removing hair from the bottom can create lift, but forgetting to clean up the top area is the difference between bold and beautiful and just plain old bold.
  1. Work on both brows at the same time – “brows are sister not twins,” so don’t meticulously shape one and then try to get the other to look exactly the same.  Instead, go back and forth throughout the process to gauge what needs to be done to make them symmetrical, not identical.
  1. Take a step back – when staring into a mirror, every little hair is assessed rather than the overall shape, make sure to view the entire face, not just brows.
  1. Be original – there is no universal perfect brow shape.  Everyone has different features that come into play, so make sure to look like yourself at the end of the process, instead of someone with perfect brows that look like they belong to someone else.
  1. And remember – removing less is always more.  Just removing the stragglers and letting the rest be can work magic.

Malynda Vigliotti (aka Boom Boom) is obsessed with brows – 165,000+ served at Boom Boom Brow Bar in NYC!!   Boom Boom Booty and Brow 2 now open offering Uptown (above the fabulous belt) and Downtown (below the fabulous belt) services! It’s fast, convenient, affordable and FUN!!  Everyone should have thick gorgeous eyebrows; after all, they are the most important feature on the face and THE best accessory EVA!   And now bikini waxing is a cinch too – just walk-in! Happy Hour is Monday – Friday, 4-5 (FREE lip with brow wax).  Check out what’s cooking on Instagram: https://instagram.com/boomboombrowbar; Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/boomboombrowbar and Twitter: http://twitter.com/boomboombrowbar.

A Beauty Sophisticate’s Lemonade w/ Drops of Lavender for HYNT by Abby Phon

unnamed-4

Certified holistic health and wellness coach ABBY PHON is back with a recipe that puts a sophisticated twist on an American summer classic, the Lemonade!

A key natural ingredient employed in Hynt’s skin caring formulations, a touch of Lavender in food and drinks add a subtle sweetness that pairs well with tart citrus flavors like lemons. This means that you can now get away with less sugar, too!

Why Lavender?

Lavender is the most used essential oil in the world and for good reason! For thousands of years, including the ancient Egyptians, and Greeks to the Romans, Lavender has been touted as a natural remedy to alleviate burns and scrapes, to calm inflamed skin, aid with eczema and other skin conditions as acne, cold sores, hay fever, dandruff and even bee stings. The scent of Lavender is also known to promote relaxation and sleep.

While Hynt uses organic lavender oil in their line for its beauty benefits, it’s also a must-have for many in the kitchen like Abby’s. Try adding a touch into various desserts, sweets and even savory dishes the next time — or simply keep a sprig in the kitchen or bath to ease you into a calm state of mind!

WHAT YOU NEED

3 organic lemons

1/2 cup raw local honey
(Alternatives are Agave, Maple Syrup or your preferred Sweetener)
6 cups filtered water
2 cups ice
1 drop Lavender essential oil
(Abby uses one from Young Living)

DIRECTIONS

Juice 3 Large Lemons
Add Filtered Water
Stir in Honey until well blended
Add 1 drop of Lavender Essential Oil
Add Ice and Stir
Enjoy!

TIP: If you don’t have access to food-grade Lavender essential oils, steep 1 tbsp dried culinary lavender in 1-2 cups hot water for 20-30 minutes then strain.

Head Back to School with a little Mad Love

Katy Perry debuted her newest fragrance, Mad Love, recently. I have all of Katy Perry’s fragrances, and this latest is my favorite. It has an appealing scent of fruits and flowers, both my favorites. Mad Love has notes of lady apple sorbet, mara strawberry, and pink grapefruit.  The floral highlights are composed of bleeding heart flower, peony, and jasmine. Mad Love has a delicate scent which has quite a bit of staying power. I spray on in the morning and can still smell the beautiful aroma into the early evening.  My youngest daughter also loves the scent and loves the design of the bottle. She has an extensive perfume collection and plans on taking this from me.

My youngest daughter also loves the scent and loves the design of the bottle. She has an extensive perfume collection and plans on taking this from me.  The bottle design is unique and will add the intricate bottle designs she already has. This fragrance is perfect for all ages; i know this because my mother wants a bottle for herself.  If you are a fruity floral kind of girl, you need a little Mad Love.

Mad love is available at Kohls and kohls.com
