Best Massage Oil Ingredients for Your Baby

Best Massage Oil Ingredients for Your Baby

Massaging your baby is a great addition to your newborn care regimen. Gently massaging your baby daily is beneficial for your baby’s skin and muscles, and has been shown to boost your baby’s growth and immunity. Thus, choosing the right Baby massage oil  is important to ensure a safe massage experience for your baby.

Best baby massage oils

A baby’s skin is very delicate. Thus, it is important to choose a hypoallergenic massage oil that will both moisturize your baby’s skin without causing irritation. Ideally, you should be opting for hypoallergenic plant-based and natural oils, and avoid synthetic oils like mineral oil (also called petrolatum). It’s also advisable to avoid strong essential oils like lavender and citrus oils, as they might cause allergic reactions. Here are some recommended massage oils suitable for baby’s delicate skin.

  • Polyunsaturated vegetable oils. Polyunsaturated vegetable oils are rich in good fatty acids like such as Omega-3, Omega-6, linoleic, and oleic fatty acids, which are needed for good health. These oils are also great for your baby’s skin because it’s excellent in protecting the skin’s barrier and is gentle enough for your baby’s skin. Sunflower seed oil, grapeseed oil, and safflower seed oil are excellent vegetable oils for massaging your baby.
  • Coconut oil. Coconut oil is very versatile with an array of health benefits. Coconut oil is not only deeply moisturizing — it is also antibacterial, anti-fungal, antiviral, and antimicrobial. It has been shown to increase weight in babies when applied daily. It has no known allergenic effects and is one of the best, healthiest, and affordable oils you can use for your baby.
  • Shea butter. Shea butter is a creamy, buttery substance derived from the shea fruit seeds. It is rich in nutrients and acts as a mild sunscreen as well. It also has anti-inflammatory and skin soothing properties, which makes it excellent for managing flare-ups and rashes in your baby’s skin.

How to properly massage your baby

Apart from picking a mild, gentle massaging oil, knowing how to properly massage your baby is also important. Here are some tips you need to know when massaging your baby:

  • The best times to massage your baby is during bedtime and after a bath. Make sure to space massages at least an hour or two after eating, since massaging your baby too soon after feeding may cause your baby to spit up.
  • Limit your massage time for up to 5-10 minutes only. You can also stop massaging when your baby starts sleeping, crying, or frolicking since it means that your baby has had enough massage time for that day.
  • Your massage strokes must be light and gentle as if caressing your baby only. Massage your baby’s feet, legs, thighs, arms, legs, and back with gentle smoothing strokes. Massaging your baby’s stomach in a clockwise direction will help improve your baby’s digestion.

Massages are greatly beneficial for your baby’s growth and health. By choosing the right massage oils and using the right techniques, you can be assured of a fun and safe bonding experience for you and your little one. Avoid massaging your baby’s face and head, since the oils may be too harsh for his or her skin, and the head still has some soft parts in there.

SURPRISING SKIN SINS THAT AGE YOUR FACE

www.drmanishshah.com

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that smoking, not wearing sunscreen and going to bed with your makeup on hardly produces the coveted look of Instagram’s “glass skin.”  Aside from these three ‘skin sins’ there are many others that are not so obvious. We turned to Denver Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Manish Shah who is a big believer in pre-juvenation and a holistic approach to youth.

Inconsistent Dieting

“Many people think caring for your skin is skin-deep,” quips Dr. Shah. “It is not.“ Inconsistent or inadequate nutrition that has your body mass and weight moving in a yo-yo motion up and down the scale can contribute to ruined elasticity and reduced collagen in the skin. This is part of the reason why specialists will recommend a two-pound maximum weight loss goal per week because your skin needs time to adapt to the loss of mass. Dr. Shah explains that the skin needs to be nourished from the inside as well and many of the trend diets like keto and paleo focus on one group of food and though it can help keep a caloric deficit, it can also create a deficit of the necessary vitamins and minerals you need to keep your skin looking healthy.

Drinking Too Much Coffee

“Excessive amounts of caffeine can increase the levels of insulin and cortisol in the system,” explains Dr. Shah.  Insulin increases inflammation and cortisol is known as the stress hormone. This combination could mix up your sleeping habits and contribute to continued stress which can lead to sleep deprivation. “Sleep deprivation prevents that regenerative rest our skin and mind need to stay healthy.”

Neglecting the Skin Around Your Eyes

“The skin around your eyes is the thinnest and has very few oil glands,” says Dr. Shah. Pamper your eyes and stave off signs of aging by choosing a daily eye cream that includes peptides. Dr. Shah explains, “They work to stimulate collagen production and prevent fine lines. Be sure to check the label.” Other notable ingredients that reduce puffiness, lines, wrinkles, and under eye circles are caffeine and nicotinic acid (a form of the B vitamin niacin).

Expecting Instant Results from Beauty Treatments

Most of us are guilty of trying a face cream or anti-aging treatment once or twice and then giving up on it before it has had a chance to work. A majority of anti-aging treatments take up to a month to begin showing positive effects. Dr. Shah explains, “This is due to the cycle of your skin, which undergoes a period of cellular structure renewal over a span of 30 days. In our instant gratification mode, we often toss a product before giving it time to work.”

Taking Medications With Side-Effects on the Skin

Certain medications like corticosteroids for asthma and arthritis cause the skin to thin and weakens blood vessels. Medicine to treat seizures can cause heightened sensitivity to sun damage in the skin which is a common perpetrator in premature aging. Blood pressure medications that block calcium channels have been studied in relation to their inhibition of collagen production by obstructing the absorption of vitamin C by the cells. Vitamin C is an important part of collagen production.  “If these medications are being prescribed to you by your physician then the benefits outweigh their effect on collagen production. There is no need to stress over this, as long as you take care of your skin in other ways you should be fine,” explains Dr. Shah.

Consuming Excessive Amounts of Salt

“By all measures, an excess of salt in your diet is detrimental to your kidneys, your cardiovascular health and, yes, your skin,” says Dr. Shah. Salt absorbs moisture and it can aid in making your skin look dry and less vibrant. Reducing your sodium intake and sticking to a moisturizing routine should help your skin stay healthy and smooth.

Facial Expressions

Every time you move that beautiful face, your skin wrinkles a little bit. Most of the time your face bounces back and those little wrinkles disappear once new skin cells grow.

Soap

While you may think that soap is your skin’s best friend, this is actually not the case. The reason for this is that your skin has an acid mantle which is a natural protective barrier of the skin. When you wash with soap – which is generally alkaline – it can remove this protective layer of oils and dry out the skin, eventually leading to wrinkles. Dr. Shah says that “While it is not advisable to stop washing entirely, try swapping the soap for a PH-neutral and chemical-free cleanser, and bear in mind that there is such a thing as over-cleansing your skin.”

Tugging on Your Skin While Applying or Removing Makeup

To minimize the damage to the skin around your eyes, follow these quick tips from Dr. Shah:

Use your ring finger to pat on products around your eyes, including serums, oils, moisturizers, and concealers. Your ring finger is the least likely to pull or tug at your skin.

Apply eyeliner and eyeshadow by gently closing your eyelids, rather than by pulling them taut. If you’re struggling to apply without pulling, consider investing in products that are made to apply smoothly, like cream or gel formulas.

Have patience when removing makeup from the eye area. Use cotton or another soft product, coated well with your favorite makeup removing solution. Hold the cotton over your closed eye without wiping, allowing the product to break down the makeup. After a minute or so, wipe gently to remove the makeup.

Picking Your Skin

You’re not a dermatologist or licensed aesthetician. You should not be picking at your pimples, ingrown hairs, or anywhere else on your face. It’s one of the biggest assaults against your skin and can have permanent effects. “The more people press and manipulate blemishes, the more inflammation they create underneath,” explains Dr. Shah. “The result is scars, pockmarks, and discoloration that can become permanent.”

Licking Your Lips Constantly

There’s a myth out there that claims people can get addicted to lip balm. “These people just have dry skin and miss the feeling of the balm when it’s gone,” says Dr. Shah. Lip licking can become a bad habit. But when you moisten your lips that way, you actually wind up making things worse. The water in your saliva evaporates, leaving lips dry and cracked. “Saliva can contain bacteria and irritants, so you can end up with a rash around the lips as well,” says Dr. Shah. Try a lip balm such as Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Moisturizing Lip Balm, Original Beeswax with Vitamin E & Peppermint Oil.

7 Tips to Clean a Drip Coffee Maker

Have you ever wondered about how you can brew the perfect cup of coffee on your drip coffee maker? Well, it isn’t just about the type of beans and methods you use, but also how you maintain it. Yes, cleaning is imperative to ensure a good cup of coffee and a machine to last for years.

Surprisingly, not many people actually know how to clean their drip coffee makers. That results in lots of oil and calcium deposits that affect your coffee’s taste and the machine’s performance. To prevent that, I’ll be showing you the seven cleaning tips inspired by a cool coffee blog – Coffeeurban to clean a drip coffee maker!

  1. Is It Dishwasher Friendly?

Unless it says on the label, I highly recommend that you do NOT place your coffee pot or its other contents in the dishwasher. Not only might this damage your coffee pot and parts, but it may also not be cleaned as thoroughly as you expect!

So what do you do? It’s best to clean it by hand and to run a brew with the appropriate cleaning solutions.

  1. When Do You Clean It?

You don’t need to clean out your entire drip coffee maker every day, besides the coffee pot. I recommend that you deep-clean the coffee maker at least once a month, which ensures that both outside and inside of the machine is completely clean and can perform well.

As for me, I deep clean once a week or once every two weeks to keep it working in top condition!

  1. What Do You Clean Your Drip Coffee Maker With?

There are several types of cleaning solutions you can use to clean your drip coffee maker, both homemade or store-bought.

  • Create a cleaning solution of one part white vinegar and one part water, enough for two brewing cycles
  • If you don’t want white vinegar, you can substitute and use dishwashing liquid instead
  • There are specialized cleaning solutions for drip coffee makers, as recommended by the machine’s manufacturers
  1. What If You Aren’t Using Your Drip Coffee Maker?

If you aren’t using your drip coffee maker for a few days or so, then it’s best to leave the lids of the coffee pot and water reservoir off. This will have the interiors dry properly, preventing any mold, residue, and has the airflow healthily. Also, remember that the machine should be unplugged when not in use, as a safety precaution and to prevent it from wearing out.

  1. Checking and Addressing Damages

Sometimes our drip coffee makers incur damages without us even knowing about it! So when doing a weekly or monthly cleaning, check out your coffee pot and other parts of the machine, replacing and repairing cracked or worn out parts which are a huge danger to your safety AND the coffee maker.

Always clean up coffee spills on the heating pad, replace cracked filter baskets, and check the machine’s coffee pot every now and then for cracks.

  1. Avoid Overusing and Keeping the Drip Coffee Maker In Power

Maintaining your coffee maker isn’t just about cleaning it right, it’s about using it right as well! With that being said, it’s important to avoid overusing it to the point that it’s considered abuse! I like brewing one huge batch a day, which prevents me from constantly switching on and off the coffee maker, as this can wear down its power.

  1. The Official and Simple Steps in Cleaning

Follow these three simple steps in deep cleaning your drip coffee machine:

  1. Place your chosen cleaning solution into the coffee pot and brew this solution in the machine two times.
  2. Repeat the first step, but using only distilled water this time to rinse our the solution.
  3. Use baking soda and a sponge to scrub the stains from the coffee machine, and rinse.

Cleaning your drip coffee maker isn’t such a tedious task, only needing a bit of your time and regular cleaning materials. As long as you know what to do to keep your coffee maker clean and maintained well, then you can enjoy delicious cups of coffee for a long time. It’s not that hard and can be done within minutes!

Hopefully, this article on the seven tips to clean a drip coffee maker helped you out! So don’t wait any longer and look into using any of these tips and steps now.

If you have any questions or want to share your tips and experiences on cleaning your drip coffee maker, then comment below! Your thoughts are much appreciated.

Unexpected Expenses Popping Up – A Car Title Loan May Help

girl in car

No one can control when an unexpected expense will pop up. If your home needs urgent repairs or you have medical bills to pay, you could need cash before your next payday. If you need cash in a hurry and you own a vehicle, you might be in luck.

A secured loan using your vehicle as collateral is one of the easiest ways to get cash in your hand without any delay. Lenders are much more likely to approve a loan when their risk is reduced, and are more flexible on terms and interest rates as well.

Applying for a car equity loan couldn’t be easier. If you own your vehicle, your lender will take the Blue Book value of your car, the year and the condition into consideration when deciding on a loan amount. It’s not unusual to be approved for up to $20,000. The benefits of applying for a car title loan can make all the difference when you are searching for a borrowing solution.

Fast & Easy

Unlike traditional loans that can take several days to process, a car equity loan approval can get you cash the same day. Your application will cover only the basics as the lender’s interest will primarily be on the vehicle that you will be using as collateral. Talk to a lender today about how much you may qualify to borrow and fill out an application.

Bad or No Credit Solution

If you need money fast but anticipate having approval issues because of unestablished or poor credit, a car equity loan is the solution for you. Secured loans rarely require a credit check and can be an excellent way to establish a new credit history. Leave your past behind and work on building up your good credit with a secured car equity loan.

Keep Your Car

As long as you continue to make regular payments on your car equity loan, you can keep and drive your own vehicle. You only forfeit your car if you fail to meet the repayment schedule that you have agreed to. You won’t have to worry about how you are going to get to work or around town and you can still take money home with you on the same day you apply.

Save Money

Apart from the convenience, there are very few advantages to payday loans when you need money before your next paycheck. Ridiculously inflated interest rates, fees and penalties can add up quickly with unsecured or payday loans, and should be avoided whenever possible. With a secured car equity loan you can expect much lower rates and more flexible payment terms than you are likely to get from a traditional lender.

Flexible Repayment

With a bank loan you will nearly always face penalties for early repayment that can affect how fast you pay down your debt. The lending institutions want to keep you paying out as long as they can to collect on compound interest. With a secured car equity loan your payment agreement can be as flexible as you need it to be, as the lender is taking very little risk in their investment.

7 Glamorous Fashion Staples for Every Occasion

Every stylish woman knows that staying on trend doesn’t have to be expensive if you invest in high-quality staple items. You need to find a few key pieces of clothing and accessories which will not only stand the test of time but also give you the versatility needed for a variety of occasions. While fashion, by its very nature, is a continually moving beast, there are certain wardrobe items which somehow never get old. Below are seven wardrobe staples which you can rely on time and time again to come to your rescue when you need that magic combination of glamour, sophistication, and simplicity.

     1.   The Little Black Dress

Maybe this is an obvious item to start with, but the LBD has stood the test of time when it comes to versatility and glamour with the potential for a sexy edge when needed. You can play with the LBD like a blank canvas, dressing it up with jewelry and heels or pairing it with flats and a cardigan for the daytime or a fitted blazer for work. Accessories of any color will bring it to life and, with the right fit for your shape, can make you feel like a million dollars.

     2. The Perfect Pair of Jeans

It seems that different styles of denim jeans are on rotation when it comes to what’s in fashion, but it’s highly likely you know which style of jeans compliments your figure best. Straight, flared, skinny, wide-leg high-waist; whatever makes you look and feel amazing. Your top, shoes, and accessories will take care of the color and finishing touches, but the jeans hold the show together.

     3.  A Sassy Midi Skirt

Some women stay away from skirts, but the truth is that a midi skirt with some flow and movement can flatter just about anyone’s shape and style. Again, this item can be paired with flats or heels depending on the occasion, and your choice of patterns and colors is endless.

     4.  A Statement Piece of Jewelry

Even a pair of jeans and a plain tee can be quickly transformed into a chic cocktail outfit with the right piece of jewelry. Whether it’s a necklace, earrings or a bracelet, sparkle, color and shine lifts even the most conservative of outfits to the next level, especially when you’re in a hurry to catch that cab!

     5.  The Classic Coat

Why cover a stunning outfit with an average coat? No one wants to uncomfortable when they’re out, but that’s no reason to compromise on fashion. Invest in a sophisticated all-rounder from a duffle coat womens’ retailer in a color to suit any outfit’s palette.

    6.  A Sexy Ankle Boot

Heeled ankle boots are the perfect way to get a little height and glamour while still maintaining that smart, practical edge so you can get the day done! You can wear these boots with dresses, jeans or a pantsuit.

     7.  A Chic (and Versatile) Bag

The ultimate staple for every woman is the all-important bag. This is somewhere you might need to invest in a few options to cover all eventualities, e.g., a small, medium and a large so that you can choose the right one for your load that day. Keep the design and colors neutral, and you’re ready for anything.

WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF 2019’s TRENDY WORKOUTS

A MILLENNIAL CERTIFIED TRAINER BREAKS IT DOWN

www.vhsred.com

Just like fashion, music and interior design, fitness goes through fads. Who hasn’t seen an Insta post of “Goat Yoga?”  For those who bopped around to Madonna, we can’t forget Jazzercise, step aerobics, The Thigh Master, Tae-Bo, The Abdominizer, Buns of Steel, and the list goes on.  Just because all “the cool kids” are doing a certain workout, does not mean it’s right for you. We turned to Vince Sant, Certified fitness trainer with ISSA and CEO of Vshred.com a fitness platform. Vince certainly speaks from a place of knowledge, with close to 1 million YouTube subscribers tuning in for his advice.

Wearable Technology

Whether they’re fitness trackers, pedometers, or calorie counters, this market has reached scheduled 4 billion in sales as of 2017. One study showed that non-wearers experienced more weight-loss because they relied on personal effort and, literally, sweat, to guide their workouts vs. a numerical data indicator. Vince suggests that “Sweat and good old-fashioned fatigue may be more reliable than data numbers on your wrist.  After a few weeks or months, the novelty of knowing your step totals or resting heart rate wears off–even faster if you know about inaccurate those numbers can be.”

Spinning

People choose spinning for a variety of reason including weight loss, cardio and stress relief.  Spinning is great for weight loss if done correctly and with a sensible diet that produces a caloric deficit. Vince Sant cautions that ”Spinning excessively can actually lead to atrophy of the muscles in your legs which is the opposite of strengthening them. The simple truth is that losing weight without strength and weight training can and will lead to atrophied and weakened muscles throughout the body”. Although cycling helps build some muscle, doing excessive amounts of cycling without the addition of strength training is not a comprehensive well-rounded workout.

Boxing

Boxing is a great workout for your entire body. It has stress relief benefits, helps concentration and eye-hand coordination. The improved endurance and stronger muscles you build translate effectively into life outside the ring, giving you the ability to perform everyday movements with energy and a decreased risk of injury.

Vince points out that, “With contact, boxing injuries can be a factor. Even while wearing head and mouth protection, sparring and competition can lead to minor injuries such as bruises and split lips and more serious injuries such as broken bones and concussions.” Vince suggests limiting boxing trained to shadow boxing, striking focus mitts and the smaller focus pads and hitting the heavy bag and speed bag, along with classic boxing training modalities such as running and jumping rope.

HIIT Training

HIIT training is a type of metabolic workout where you use both cardiovascular and strength training.  Your aerobic and anaerobic systems will both be used throughout the routine, meaning glycogen and fat will both be used as fuels.  Most of these training sessions last between 10-40 minutes. Vince says that “The biggest risk of this type of training is an injury caused by lack of supervision or know-how of the person training.” Studies show that your resting metabolic rate can be increased for the 24 hours after you do these types of workouts and that it may burn fat more efficiently than long aerobic workouts. Vince says, “The key is to recognize signs of fatigue that can lead to poor form and injury.”

Metabolic Training

This is a combination of cardio and strength conditioning. As examples, think of P90X, CrossFit, Insanity, or high-intensity circuit training. Metabolic training is about increasing “the storage and delivery of energy for any activity.” If you do this type of training the correct way, you can burn more calories, get ‘afterburn,’ build endurance, strength, and fitness while having variety. Since this type of exercise seems to have so many benefits, why doesn’t everybody just do it? “The problem,” says Vince Sant, “Is that it’s just too intense for many beginners.”  The cons of this workout are that there is a high attrition rate, a risk of injury and muscle soreness. If you are set on doing this program, Vince advises to bone up on more basic fitness first.

Body Weight Training

These are simple, effective exercises to improve balance, flexibility, and strength without machinery or extra equipment. Examples include:

Push-ups

Pull-ups

Dips

Squats

Lunges

The pros of this method include high repetitions and increased endurance. There is no equipment required, it is convenient and can be done at home or while traveling. There is less risk of injury while working several muscle groups at once. Vince says, “Some of the cons include that it may be difficult to achieve an intensity that is near the individual’s one-rep max. It also may be difficult to execute for those who are overweight.”

Vibration Boards/Platforms

“These are an absolute no,” says Vince Sant. He adds, “Vibration boards do not, and will not, work better than traditional exercises like barbells or cardio. The theory is that the vibration signals are transferred into body tissues, tendons, and muscles, which increases muscle contractions and ultimately improves muscle strength, coordination, and balance. In the long term, such contractions would increase muscle mass and energy expenditure, leading to better control of blood sugar levels. But these are still theories. The overall effects of whole-body vibration therapy remain elusive, as scientific studies vary largely in the vibration parameters used.”

If you are confused, what is the best method to adopt for your workout?

Vince stresses that “a workout should be fun, convenient, not cause repetitive injury. It should involve a warm up and cool down, have appropriate gear, be mindful of weather, be aware of your body.  If something is causing pain beyond burn, stop that exercise. Workouts should take into consideration pre-existing injuries. For example, if you have chronic knee pain, swimming is a good option, while jumping and squats are not. Vince sums it up with, “For the most well-rounded workout, be sure to incorporate, balance, aerobics, flexibility, and strength training.”
