NEW Cutter™ Poison Ivy Scrub coming in March 2023

Introducing a new poison ivy scrub from the Cutter® brand, a trusted leader in outdoor solutions.  Cutter™ Poison Ivy Scrub helps remove the irritating plant oils found in poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac to provide effective itch relief gently yet quickly.  The new scrub joins the existing line of innovative and effective Cutter™ poison ivy wipes and sprays.

Unlike other solutions on the shelf in the United States, Cutter™ Poison Ivy Scrub is currently the only product clinically proven to remove urushiol oil from skin.  Urushiol oil is the plant oil secreted by poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac that’s responsible for the hallmark rash, itchy sensation, and painful blisters.  Simply massage the scrub onto recently exposed skin and rinse with cool water, repeating as needed, to minimize the risk of developing discomfort.

Roughly 85% of the population is allergic to poison ivy, poison oak or poison sumac.  Not only does Cutter™ Poison Ivy Scrub effectively and efficiently help cleanse skin of the irritating oils thanks to its natural exfoliating beads, but it also provides comfort with calming ingredients like Vitamin E.  The formula is dermatologist tested and fragrance free.

This new scrub is added to the Cutter™ poison ivy treatments collection, allowing even more consumers to explore and enjoy the great outdoors with one less worry.

Cutter™ Poison Ivy Scrub will be available on Amazon, at all Walmart stores nationwide, and H-E-B stores in Texas in March 2023 in the First Aid aisle.

How To Change Part Direction

The side part was never really dead, but it’s back in a big way.  Side saddle and butterfly fringes are great compliments to short hybrid cuts, mid-length lobs and longer layers.  It’s one the easiest ways to be on trend this season without having to do that much.  But how easy is it to change a part?  Top stylist Sam Villa, Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Sam Villa and Global Artistic Ambassador for Redken, explains how to train hair to switch directions.

“The middle part has been popular for so long that hair will tend to want to live there now, so you have to work to change your root direction, basically alter hair at the base, in order for it to fall to the side now,” explains Villa.

How To Change Part Direction

  • Apply a mousse or lotion to wet hair at the base (roots).
  • Use the hook of a comb to neatly carve out a side part.
  • Use the fine teeth of the comb to smooth and reset the growth pattern by combing hair to the side while trailing with the nozzle of a blow dryer focusing heat and air at the root in the direction hair should fall.  For natural textures, apply product on wet hair, comb into place and let air dry or diffuse to dry.

A comb works better than a brush because it can reach further down the hair shaft and grab hair closer to the root.  The fine teeth also provide more tension for redirecting.

How long will it take to retrain hair for a solid side part?  It all depends on how often hair is shampooed.  Hair should stay in place if it does not get wet…and sooner or later it will fall into the new pattern automatically.

Suggested Tools and Products

  • Sam Villa Signature Series Long Cutting Comb – has a hook and fine teeth.
  • Sam Villa Professional Light Ionic Blow Dryer – comes with a rotating nozzle.
  • Redken Root Lifter Volumizing Mousse

Karina Brez Debuts The Jeweled Barn, an Elegant Mobile Retail Pop-Up, at the Winter Equestrian Festival

The Jeweled Barn, by Karina Brez, is an eco-friendly shop inspired by the tiny house aesthetic.

New York, NY. January 11, 2023.  Karina Brez Jewelry celebrates the bond horses and humans have. Influenced by the majesty of the horse, equestrian gear, symbolism, and myth, her designs honor both the sport and the connection created. They feature a harmonious balance of love for all things equestrian, while making fine jewelry accessories accessible. In her next branding expansion, Brez takes her equine style and brings it to the world of interior design through The Jeweled Barn, her tiny house retail pop-up concept. The newly debuting Jeweled Barn is located just outside of the VIP area of the Winter Equestrian Festival, which runs from now through April 2, 2023.

Returning to the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) at the prestigious Wellington International for the 11th year, the show is the longest-running equestrian event in the world. Attracting the top athletes in the sport, WEF is the premier backdrop for trendsetting equine style. The Jeweled Barn is a tiny house, inspired by the distinguished show, as a celebration of the equestrian lifestyle. Designed to appear as a barn on the exterior, it is an homage to the home of the horse. Its interior is meticulously detailed, for the viewing and purchasing of pieces from Karina Brez signature collections.

Jewelry Designer Karina Brez states, “The Jeweled Barn is inspired by the spirit of the equestrian lifestyle, both rustic and refined. An interpretation of an English tack room, it is sophisticated, incorporating green, gold and reclaimed wood. It is making its debut at WEF, and will be used to showcase Karina Brez Jewelry at horse shows across the U.S.”

The Jeweled Barn was developed to be carbon neutral: consciously designed with environmental impact in mind, featuring eco friendly products, several local vendors, and surrounded by many plants. The structure was built by Melbourne, FL-based, Movable Roots. “As a complete custom design and build company, Movable Roots was excited to be part of Karina’s journey, helping her create a unique mobile ‘tiny home’ space that worked for her and her brand,” says Michael Cheatham, Co-Owner, Movable Roots. Its lights are from Barn Light Electric, in Titusville, Florida and the large windows were acquired by PGT, a local window company. In celebration of the equestrian aesthetic, Ralph Lauren tartan wool fabric is repurposed as wallpaper. The shelves are made from old tobacco barns, and there are reclaimed hardwood floors at the base of the structure. The entire barn is powered by solar panels on its roof, designed and installed by Expert Mobile Solar, from Brevard County, FL. The solar panels are assisted by a battery to allow the barn to be off the grid, including its satellite internet and air conditioning. Handmade leather trunks have been commissioned from Nick Coggon in Nottingham, England to decorate the building. The interior is furnished with shiplap walls, painted green, and it is decorated with equestrian antiques. Ebony-stained cedar wood and copper lights surround, and flowers adorn the exterior of The Jeweled Barn. Its innovative design offers a modern way to attend horse shows in a pop-up retail space, allowing for the aesthetic of the Karina Brez equestrian fine jewelry brand to show through on-the-go.

The Jeweled Barn is located outside of the VIP area of the Winter Equestrian Festival (between the international Club and Hermes), in Wellington, FL.  Karina Brez Jewelry is a corporate sponsor, and is sponsoring the Adult Amateur Hunters Division, ages 36-49, at WEF. Karina Brez signature collections are available online at https://karinabrez.com/, and will be shown in person at The Jeweled Barn, from January 4 through April 2, 2023. Managing Trauma and Behavioural Issues in Foster Children

Managing trauma and behavioural issues in foster children can sometimes be one of the main challenges foster parents face. This may be especially true for those who are caring for foster children who have experienced difficult and traumatic situation such as abuse, abandonment, and neglect. As a foster parent, it’s important to understand the unique needs of your foster child in order to provide them with the support that they need to heal, grow, and thrive.

Provide a Stable, Nurturing Environment

If you wish to become a foster parent with Orange Grove Foster Care, one of the most important things that you’ll need to be prepared for is managing trauma responses and challenging behaviour in your foster child. To do this successfully, you should provide a nurturing and stable environment. This may involve creating a physical space for the child that is comfortable and safe, for example, along with bringing a sense of routine and structure to their life. Children who experience difficulties with emotional regulation may benefit from a consistent and predictable routine. It’s also recommended to provide opportunities for your foster child to take part in activities that they joy and that help them improve their self-worth.

Be Aware of Mental Health Challenges

It is crucial for foster parents to be aware of the mental health challenges that foster children may face and how these can manifest in everyday life. One of the most important things to be aware of is the potential for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in kids in the foster system. PTSD is common in children who have experienced trauma and comes with a range of symptoms, such as anxiety, flashbacks, panic attacks, nightmares, and even straight up avoiding certain situations. While not every child in foster care will suffer from PTSD, it is worth familiarising yourself with the signs of this condition and how to help kids manage and recover from it.

Provide Emotional Support

As a foster parent, it’s important for you to be prepared to help your foster child cope with their emotional experiences. It’s important to understand that foster children may not always be able to regulate or express their emotions well, which can lead to challenging behaviours such as a lack of impulse control. If you want to be a foster parent, it’s important that you’re prepared to approach this in an understanding, empathetic, and non-judgemental way.

Establish Clear Expectations and Rules

Many foster children who have come from traumatic situations have difficulties understanding boundaries and may benefit from an environment with clear, consistent rules and expectations. You should make sure that your foster child understands what is expected from them. Be clear on your household boundaries and have appropriate consequences for if these boundaries are crossed.

Foster parenting can be a hugely rewarding experience, but often one of the toughest things about the process is helping a child through past trauma. Trauma in children can manifest in different ways, so the most important thing is to take a non-judgemental approach and be ready for a range of potential situations.

Lindsey Olson Demonstrates the Difference Between a Single and Double-Waver

There are dozens of ways to create texture, volume and movement, and wavers are probably the easiest and fastest way to go about it.  Lindsey Olson, Sam Villa Ambassador @lindsey.marie.olson, demonstrates the difference between a single and a double waver as she creates glam waves two ways.

Regardless of which waver is used, Olson recommends the following:

  • Dry mousse with Redken Root Lifter 10 to build volume (apply mousse, comb through and blow dry)
  • Spray each section with Redken Thermal Spray 22, comb through.  Hair has to be smooth before compressing to get highly polished results.
  • The denser the hair, the smaller the section.
  • Count to 3 for each compression for consistency.
  • Use dry sectioning clips to section – they won’t leave a mark
  • Cool hair thoroughly before breaking up and styling, this will make the waves last longer
  • To finish, use fingers for a looser Boho finish, a wide-tooth comb to push waves together and a Sam Villa Artist Series Polishing Paddle Brush for an ultra-smooth glam finish.
  • Finish with Redken Shine Flash for added gloss

Olson used Sam Villa Pro Results Double-Waver and Single-Waver irons for the demonstration, along with diagonal back sections to create a soft flow away from the face.

The Results

Double-Waver: 2 subtle rounded barrels

Result: Waves are soft and round, good for boho updos or soft braids, perfect for creating romantic soft texture and on natural curls to accentuate and define texture.

Single Waver: 1 deep narrow barrel

Result: A poppy wave with more intense ripples, the ultimate accordion glam wave with a lux feel.  Makes more of an impact than the double waver and the perfect glam waves in far less time than a traditional set.

“If you do a lot of brides and updos, wavers will save you so much time.  They’re insanely faster than using a regular curling or flat iron, especially for making glam lux waves,” says Olson.  “And yes, they are different, so don’t choose one over the other, trust me, you need both!”

See Olson create effortless lived-in waves with a double waver and Marcel iron in just 10 minutes here.

4 Tips To Overhaul and Refresh Your Home

Your living room design can become boring and dull the longer you live in a home. When you notice this happening, you know it is time to give out an overhaul and a refresh. This is where you entertain guests and spend a lot of time so careful thought is required to come up with the best living room possible. Here are some tips that can help.

Rearrange It

Overhauling a living room can be an expensive affair, especially if you are thinking of replacing numerous items. A budget-friendly alternative is rearranging it. The arrangement of the different pieces in the home can make a huge difference not only in how it looks but also in how you use it.

If you have enough space, you can move around your furniture and different decor items a few times until you have a look and feel that you like. Even subtle changes like changing a sofa or table’s angle can make a significant difference.

Add Some Art

If your walls have been blank for some time, hanging a few pieces of art can make a huge difference. Doing so can also help you make the most use of your vertical space and help create different focal points in the room.

Think about the feel you are going for and choose art that goes with that. Some art houses and services also allow you to use augmented reality to see how the art would look on your wall so take advantage of that option if it is available.

Embrace a Contemporary Interior Design Style

Contemporary interior design styles are always changing to incorporate the latest design trends without placing as much emphasis on accessorising as other design styles do. Contemporary interior design styles are uncluttered as they are often minimalist, with everything included in them following this principle, too.

To achieve this style, you need to embrace neutral foundation pieces, streamlined silhouettes and pay close attention to detail to ensure everything fits together perfectly. Lighting is also a key component of this style, with the lighting options chosen not only helping complement the style but being functional too to evoke the feeling of a comfortable and inviting space.

The furniture selected when you decide to go with this style should also be minimalistic and follow the latest design trends. You will not find traditional armchairs in homes that embrace a contemporary style, but ones comfortable and interesting enough for family and guests alike. Those looking for ideas on how to style their contemporary home can visit the Ligne Roset Bromley virtual or physical showroom to find iconic pieces and styles that will be the perfect fit for their homes.

Replace Your Window Treatments

The treatments you have on your windows affect both the interior and exterior look of the home. If the home has old or outdated treatments, consider replacing them with some modern options like wooden or fabric treatments.

Refreshing your living room can make it more enjoyable to spend time in it and to entertain guests again. Start with small changes like adding pieces of art and consider bigger upgrades such as new furniture for a better-looking and more functional living room.

Explore Retirement Planning Tips for a Secured and Happy Retired Life

Retirement planning remains the same over the years. You continue to work, keep saving, and then you are all set to retire. However, even if the mechanics are still the same currently, savers are encountering challenges that previously were not a cause of worry for earlier generations. According to Investopedia, retirement planning involves a multistep process known to evolve gradually over time. You may focus on building robust savings for a comfortable, fun, and secure retirement. Retirement planning begins with determining your retirement goals and the time you have to fulfill them. You should then consider the retirement account type that can assist you in raising the necessary money for funding your future.

Determining How Much You Need to Save

Once you identify your retirement goals, you should do the calculations to know how much all this will cost. Here are some of the factors to consider arriving at accurate figures.

  • Housing expenses, including mortgage or rent, water, maintenance, and heating
  • Everyday living, like clothing, food, and transportation
  • Healthcare expenses (According to Fidelity, a couple will require $295,000 on average for medical costs in retirement. This excludes long-term care)
  • Entertainment that may include movies, plays, and restaurants
  • Life insurance
  • Travel expenses, including hotels, flights, and gas in case you go for a drive

Retirement Savings Tips

Chalk out a Budget

It is your present budget that considers your current income, expenses, and savings. You should determine how much money you require to save every month depending on your retirement goals. You may ensure that you have the required amount to save. It is best to consider retirement savings as an integral part of your budget just like food and housing expenses. You may keep the retirement savings in a separate account.

Depend on Automatic Transfers

You may consider setting up automatic transfers to your retirement savings account from your checking account. It should be set on the same date every month so that the funds you want to set aside for your retirement days are secured investments.

Retirement Savings with Traditional 401(K) Plans & Solo 401(K)

You may grow your savings for retirement by investing in a 401(k) retirement account that is provided by your organization for all its employees. All 401(k) contributions are pre-tax which implies that they can keep growing on essentially a tax-deferred basis. Moreover, in case you are a solo entrepreneur owning a small business, you may invest in a Solo 401(k) account. Self-employed people can contribute to this account as both an employer and employee thus, boosting the overall savings potential. You may visit the official website to learn more about your contribution limits in 2022.

Focus on Paying Down Debt

One crucial goal for everybody should be to be debt-free by his or her 65th birthday. It should include your credit card debt, student loans, mortgage, car loans, etc. It is best to enter your non-earning phase of life without any debt baggage.

Conclusion

You may experience setbacks in your life. In case you are stressed about income reduction, or lose your employment, you may consider reviewing your budget and making necessary reductions, wherever possible to avoid a financial crisis. However, try your best to leave your retirement savings unaffected.

So You Want to Design Your Own Clothes? Here’s What You Need to Know

Designing your own clothes can be a fun and rewarding experience, but it can also be a little daunting if you’re not sure where to start. This blog post will outline the basics of designing and making your own clothes, and discuss the different types of fabric available, as well as some basic sewing techniques. By the end of this post, you should have a good understanding of how to get started with making your own clothes!

https://www.pexels.com/photo/spool-of-purple-thread-near-needle-thimble-and-measuring-tape-1266139/

1) Choose your fabric

This is perhaps the most important step in designing and making clothes. There are a wide variety of fabrics you can get from Fabric Design Treasures, from natural fibers like cotton, linen and wool to synthetic materials such as polyester, spandex and nylon. Consider how stretchy or stiff the fabric needs to be depending on what type of clothes you plan to make. Also think about how the fabric will react when washed—will it shrink or fade?

In addition, colors and patterns are something to consider, as they can help make an outfit stand out. Finally, think about the weight of the fabric—the heavier it is, the more supportive and structured it will be.

2) Learn basic sewing techniques

Now that you’ve selected your fabric, you’re ready to start sewing! First, familiarize yourself with some basic stitching techniques such as running stitch, back stitch and French seams. You should also learn how to read a pattern (or create your own!) so that you know how to put together the various pieces of fabric into a garment.

Also, it’s important to know the correct way of pressing your fabric. This involves using a pressing cloth to ensure that your clothes have a professional finish, and will help protect delicate fabrics from heat damage.

3) Sketch out your design

Once you’ve chosen your fabric, it’s time to start sketching out your designs. Create separate sketches for each piece of clothing you intend to make, keeping in mind its purpose (i.e., if it’s meant to be a dress, consider how you can add features like pleats or pockets; if it’s meant to be trousers, think about where the waistband should lie).

Also remember to take into consideration any stitching techniques you plan to use. For example, if you want to make a shirt with darts, make sure your sketch shows this. This will help you visualize the finished garment and ensure that it looks as good as possible when completed

4) Start sewing!

Now comes the fun part—it’s time to start sewing! Make sure you have all your materials ready and lay out your fabric pieces in the order they will go together. Begin by cutting out your pattern pieces from the fabric, then pin them together and start stitching.

Depending on the complexity of your design, you may need to use specialist equipment such as a cover-stitch machine or an over locker. Once the garment is complete, clean up any loose threads and give it a final pressing. Then, enjoy wearing your newly-created clothes!

Designing and making your own clothes can be a great way to express yourself and show off your creativity. With some basic knowledge about fabrics and sewing techniques, as well as some patience and dedication, you’ll be able to create unique garments that are totally unique to you!

The Best Types of Handbags You Need in 2023

The new year is almost upon us! Between festive cheer and NYE celebrations, the ride into 2023 is a fun (if quick!) one. This new year, we are swearing by 3 different styles of handbags to see us through each and every event no matter the season. Intrigued? Keep reading for our favourite Handbags for 2023.

What colours are trending in 2023?

Looking ahead to fashion trends and styles for the new year, we’re hearing that it’s going to be all about Digital Lavender (medium toned purple), Luscious Red (pinky bold red), Sundial (burnt orange), Tranquil Blue (a little darker than blue skies) and Verdigris (a teal). Before you go and update your whole wardrobe, consider focusing on investing in a few choice accessories, like your handbag, to make your fashion mark.

What to consider when choosing your handbag?

When it comes to choosing a new bag for the year, think about:

  • Colour: Black and white go with everything so are safe choices. However, it pays to have something a little more colourful to throw into the ring in addition to monochrome colours.
  • Size: We recommend something tiny, medium and a large bag to see you through all occasions throughout the year.
  • Pockets/zips: Consider whether you want lots of compartments built into your bag to keep it organised or if you’re the kinda girl who prefers to just throw everything in and hope for the best.
  • Material: Leather, vegan friendly, beaded, satin…Consider a range of different materials so you have options for different events and weather.

The 3 Best Handbag Styles in 2023

When it comes to the best handbag styles for 2023, we’re recommending three classic shapes that will work for each and every occasion.

  1. Clutch bags

The simply clutch bag is a tried and trusted classic best suited for formal events, evening wear, dancing, and even restaurant outings. Opt for something small enough that you can carry in the palm of your hand or sling it crossbody without it weighing a ton, yet big enough that you can fit your essentials like cards and a lippy. We recommend going for something monochrome for the biggest chance of it matching all your outfits, otherwise go for one of the 2023 colours of the year – lavender, blue or red – for a real wow factor.

  1. Top handle bag

This is our favourite style of bag for a day at the office, daytime formal event, or weekend running errands. There’s just something so ‘put together’ about a cute top handle bag that shows the world you’re ready to tackle them head-on! You’ll want to choose a small to medium sized bag so it doesn’t weigh you down too much. Opt for a nude coloured top handle for easy wear or why not try the verdigris colour of the year!

  1. Shoulder bag

The ultimate all-rounder, a shoulder bag is really a non-negotiable in any woman’s handbag repertoire. Take it to work, take it shopping, take it to a party, or take it to the kid’s school pick-up. It will see you through all seasons and events without breaking a sweat. Whether you choose something small or large, just make sure it’s a material and colour you love and will get good wear out of. After all, you’ll be using this bag the most out of all three!

And that’s it! Just 3 simple bags to see you through 2023. Inspired? Discover the perfect handbag for you at Olga Berg today.
