When you have curly hair keeping it as moisturized as possible is the best way to keep it healthy and prevent breakage. Curly hair has a unique challenge in that moisture may have difficulty traveling all the way down to the ends because the hair is so curly.

This is why curly hair sometimes seems very dry and lacking in moisture. This can cause it to break off very easily and stunt its growth. The best thing you can do for your hair is to make sure you keep it as moisturized as possible. Here are some tips for doing just that.

Choose Products Wisely

One of the best ways to make sure that your hair is always moisturized is to choose the products that you use very wisely. Make sure you read the labels carefully to ensure that you are choosing a shampoo and conditioner that has high levels of moisturizing properties.

Ensuring that you use shampoos and conditioners that are specifically catered to your hair type is the best way to keep your curly hair moisturized, and prevent breakage.

Protect Your Hair

Since breakage is always imminent when you have curly hair, one way to stop this is to make sure that you are protecting your hair at night. Always wear a satin bonnet to bed because the friction from your pillowcase can cause breakage to your hair.

In addition to satin bonnets you might want to consider getting satin sheets, and pillowcases to protect your hair at night. Try wearing protective styles such as the Bob Marley look that you can achieve with Cuban twist hair.

Additionally, you can try wearing wigs on occasion to give your hair a rest. Curly hair can break easily when combed often, so allowing it to rest helps with length retention.

Detangle Gently

When you have curly hair you need to remember that you must handle your hair with care. Curly hair can get tangled very easily and you have to make sure that when you are detangling it you are very gentle.

Use products that are specifically formulated to help with detangling if this becomes a big problem. Failure to detangle correctly can result in a lot of breakages and split ends. Once you notice that your curly hair is breaking due to split ends, it is imperative that you quickly trim the ends to prevent further breakage.

Take Care of Your Curls

Curly hair can be very beautiful but it does come with its own specific set of challenges. If you want to keep it healthy you have to try to prevent breakage as much as possible and keep it moisturized.

Preventing breakage means that you wear protective styles whenever possible, try to prevent breakage while you sleep by wearing satin bonnets to bed and choosing good moisturizers for your hair. Do not be afraid to remove split ends as in the long run this will help with your length retention.
