Study reveals the cities for the best skin health

Healthy skin is something a lot of people desire, but where in the world are the best cities for skin health?

A new study from Compare the Market reveals the healthiest cities for your skin.

The research analyzed 50 cities from around the world, on factors such as UV rays and local air pollution, to reveal the world’s best cities for skin health.

Understandably, it’s colder cities with less sunlight that contribute to better skin health, so it shouldn’t be surprising that Bergen, in Norway, takes top place. However, aside from the fact that it averages just 6.5°C annually and 77.14 hours of sunlight per month, the Norwegian city scored highly for most of the factors studied.

Second place goes to another Norwegian city, Oslo, which was the city with the lowest average temperature (5.9°C) on the list. However, it just fell behind neighboring Bergen on other factors such as air pollution and sunshine hours, which is why it just misses out on the first place.

Another two Nordic cities share third place, in the form of Helsinki & Copenhagen. Helsinki has the lowest air pollution of each of the cities analyzed, with a score of just 13.76 out of 100 and also scored highly for its low average temperatures.

The Danish capital, Copenhagen, scored well more or less across the board, but especially when it comes to the average working hours in Denmark, which stand at just 1,400 a year.

Hannah Norton, spokesperson at Compare the Market says:

“Skin health is often an overlooked aspect of our health, however, keeping skin healthy is extremely important to our overall well-being. The top 10 healthiest cities for skin health are predominantly cooler European and Canadian cities such as Helsinki and Vancouver. Although it is still safe to live and visit cities with warmer climates, there are plenty of precautions you can take to protect yourself and keep your skin healthy at the same time.

“One of the best ways you can protect your skin from the sunlight and UV rays is by using SPF on your skin or wearing a sun hat to protect your head and face. You can also use clothing to cover up and protect the rest of your body or stay indoors when the UV levels are at their peak.

“As well as avoiding harmful factors such as UV rays and smoking, you could also invest in a daily skincare routine to help reduce the appearance of any wrinkles, prevent any possible breakouts and keep your skin looking the best it possibly can. However, it is important to seek advice from a medical professional if you have any concerns regarding your skin health.”
