How To Protect Yourself From Sun Damage

We all like being outside in the sunshine, and some of us even like to lie out in it and soak up the rays. As much as we like the sun, it can be incredibly harmful and even life-threatening if we don’t take the proper measures. Sunscreen

Wearing sunscreen is one of the most effective ways to remain safe in the sun, if not the most effective. Although long sleeves and trousers are preferable, they are not always practical, therefore sunscreen is a wonderful option for protecting yourself from the sun’s rays.

Sunscreen protects your skin from the sun’s UV rays and keeps the heat from burning it. Wear sunscreen on any exposed skin every time you walk outdoors, even if the sky is foggy or hazy. The sun may not be seen, yet it is present, and it can still cause burns and even skin cancer, after which you will need professional help, such as MOHS micrographic surgery.

Sunglasses

Sunglasses are a must-have when you’re out in the sun because they can protect your eyes from some of the problems that the sun’s rays can cause. When you spend too much time in the sun, you can get pterygium, macular degeneration, and cataracts. Wearing sunglasses with UV protection will help keep your eyes safe and healthy.

Not only that, but sunglasses will also make it much more comfortable to be outside in the sun. Wearing sunglasses will make it easier for you to do things like drive or just enjoy the nice weather without having to squint.

Rehydration

Even though your skin and eyes might be the first things that come to mind when you think about sun protection, the rest of your body is also at risk because of the problems that come with being too dry. The hotter it is, the more we sweat, and the more we sweat, the more body fluid we lose. This can lead to dehydration very quickly, which, in its worst form, can be fatal. Even if you don’t end up in the hospital because of dehydration, you could become confused, listless, and uncoordinated, and at the very least, you will get terrible headaches.

Because of this, you should always have a bottle or flask of water with you when you are out in the sun or any other weather. As adults, we need to drink between 11.5 and 15.5 cups of water every day. In the summer, we need to drink even more. If you don’t bring water with you and drink it throughout the day, you could get sick or at least be less productive than you should be.

Wear A Hat

We’ve already talked about long sleeves and trousers and how they might not be the best choice when it’s hot in terms of comfort, even if they are the best thing for safety. A hat, on the other hand, is always useful. Make sure you’re wearing a hat when you go outside, preferably one with a wide brim. This will protect you in many ways, including taking care of your eyes, face, and scalp.
