Are You Upcycling Your Wardrobe Yet?

We know that fashion is cyclical and surely you have more than one, two, and three garments in your wardrobe that you are going to give a second life to. However, there will; be some items that have just seen better days. Donating to charity is a great way to recycle, but there is also the option of ‘upcycling’ which is easier on the wallet and incredibly fun. So how exactly can you do this? Upcycling tries to transform waste into new objects with new functionality or value. While recycling is concerned only with transforming these materials or objects, when we talk about upcycling, it is important to take into account the role that art and creativity play.

From changing the color of your worn boots to adding new buttons to an old sweater, the theory of upcycling paves the way to new and fresh concepts, by spending less money. So here are some incredible reasons to begin this season:

You create your style.

When buying used clothes in second-hand stores or at fairs, you will find countless colorful things, and it is something that is never missing. If your style is exclusive, you will always find what you are looking for if you can merge two items of clothing to make unique patterns that are even more special.

Unique garments.

Another great advantage is that there are unique garments. You will not find your upcycled items on anyone else. If you own a pair of leather boots and want to paint them blue, it’s more than possible. Use some Angelus brand leather paint and curate something unique. There will be many exclusive garments just for you, including a blouse with a frilly collar that you sewed on, or perhaps you dip dyed a white t-shirt.

You are eco-friendly and responsible.

Far from being an emotional point, is simply a very good reason for you to upcycle. Many people spend their lives in factories producing disposable garments that then end up in our high street stores in July, only to be tossed in the bin by October. When you buy wisely and choose to shake things up, you not only save but also learn to be more elitist with what is worth spending and what isn’t.

It reduces the need to consume new materials to create other products: with existing products we will obtain new ones with new functionalities. It stimulates creativity and imagination: it allows us to experiment and find new functionalities to objects that we often have at home, and we do not give them any value or function. It adds value to objects that didn’t have much value previously. A stripe of lace can create a vintage feel, or a touch of glitter can add an expensive feel. Upcycle it well, and use it for new functionalities, which is one of the most beneficial reasons to begin today. Slow fashion is the future; don’t you want to be part of it?
