4 Tips for Transforming Your Bedroom for Summertime

With the official last day of winter set for March 19th, it’s time to start pulling those heavy, dark fabrics of winter off the furniture and walls and making room for the light and airiness of summer. The month of March marks a metamorphosis of décor. In other words, it’s time for a bedroom makeover.

Here are a few practical ways to transform your bedroom into a warm, organized and inviting space to enjoy during summer nights.

1. Play with Natural Light

Few design elements epitomize summer as much as natural light. Sunlight screams summertime, so let summer in by ditching the thick drapes and curtains that have blocked out the cold through winter. Instead, opt for sheer window treatments that expose the windowpanes and invite in the warm air of the new season.

In addition to opening the drapes to let light in, mirrors are a great bedroom summer feature to add because they reflect the natural light that enters the room, instead of absorbing it as thick fabrics do. Adding a mirrored table to your bedroom or a new, wall-length mirror will help to highlight the natural light this season is known for, and the reflections created by these mirrors will make any space look larger and airier.

2. Accentuate Your Bed

Naturally, owning a luxurious mattress for cool sleeping is imperative regardless of the season. However, the key to a summer transformation of your bed is to make sure that when you get home after a long day, it looks as amazing as it feels. Spruce up your existing bed with a few choice, inexpensive accents.

new headboard can change the entire style of your bed. For summer, light colors of cream and beige work well, and simple, soft textures like feathers or tufts can create a heavenly homage to even the most basic of bedding. Or, stringing a single strand of pixie lights across a metal print headboard can create an enchanting and relaxing summer setting.

3. Saturate with Summer Colors

A fresh coat of paint is the simplest yet most dramatic tool in your summer makeover toolbox. So, the question isn’t whether to repaint parts of your home — rather, the question is which stylish summer shade do you choose? The answer to that question depends on your level of boldness.

Bright yellow, for instance, is one of summer’s most notable colors, but a floor-to-ceiling wall in an egg yolk yellow shade could become a little nauseating. Instead, painting just the lower quarter of a wall in a bright and bold shade of yellow is much more digestible. Other shades that are mild enough to stand alone but still seasonably appropriate include mint, soft pink, peach, pastels, lavender and celery.

4. Use Summer Prints & Patterns

The basic floral pattern is basically dead. This summer season promises more sophistication and fun with Bohemian designs, including furniture, rugs and bedding in bright colors and patterns to bring a summertime feel to your space.

One Bohemian trend that lends itself well to the bedroom is the framed map. Whether it’s a hand-drawn sketch of your hometown or a canvas of your favorite vacation spot near the ocean, mounting a map to your bedroom wall will definitely add some summer flavor to your room.

Set Your Summer Style

After many months of building a barrier of fabric and furniture between you and the cold outside, it’s finally time to tear it down. Whether you play around with natural lighting, add new accent features to your bed, get bold with color, or go Bohemian with patterns and designs, allow your summer creativity to flow out as you welcome in this new summer season.
