The Best Places To Spend New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve is the night where almost everyone in every place in the world celebrates. It’s a magical night, full of expectation and excitement, and because it is a holiday that is celebrated around the world, you can head off to many different far-flung destinations to enjoy it!

Tonga

Did you know that Tonga is one of the first places on the planet to see the new year? Tonga is a Polynesian island, and it is a stunning place to visit with its crystal blue seas and white sandy beaches. Not only that, but the temperatures in December are extremely warm, which means you can celebrate in style with a cocktail around the pool or in your very own beautiful beachside bungalow.

Para, Brazil

In the state of Para in the north of Brazil, there is a fun tradition that takes place every 31st of December. As midnight chimes, people run into the sea from what is known as the most beautiful freshwater beach in the world and make seven wishes by jumping over seven waves. Those wishes should come true at some point within the next 12 months, and then they can do it again with a different set of seven wishes.

Washington DC

Although when it comes to the USA, it might be New York and Times Square that string to many people’s minds first, but there are many other places which celebrate New Year’s Eve with just as much excitement and vigor! One of those places is the nation’s capital, Washington DC. Check out this Washington DC NYE Guide to find out exactly what is happening and how you can join in.

Madrid, Spain

Many people suggest that Spain is the best place in the world to celebrate New Year’s Eve. That’s because there is somewhere in most Spanish cities and towns where everyone comes together to see in the new year. What’s truly special is the tradition of eating 12 grapes. Everyone needs to eat one grape for each chime of the clock at midnight. If you eat them all in time, you will have a lucky year ahead. In Madrid, a carnival begins at midnight so why not join in with the fun?

Angkor Wat, Cambodia

There is a beautiful temple in Angkor Wat in Cambodia which is the largest in the world. Thousands of people gather around a lake in its grounds on New Year’s Eve to watch the new year being born. In Cambodia, it’s not midnight that marks the changes but the sunrise instead. Standing around this lake with so many other people, watching the most stunning of sunrises, is a magnificent way to see in the new year.

Auckland, New Zealand

In Auckland, there is a massive sense of celebration as the new year comes around, and this is when many of the new wines that have been made over the last 12 months are sampled for the first time. It’s a lovely place to be, and the fireworks display is truly something to behold.
