The most successful, well-known models are usually tall, attractive, have a signature walk, and an excellent figure. They make sure they stay healthy and in shape so that they always look amazing on and off camera and on the runway.
However, these supermodels do not only bank on their fantastic looks and talent to land the best jobs and maintain their popularity. They also have qualities and personality traits that make brands and modeling agents look forward to signing them up.
If you are passionate about teen modeling and want to pursue this career, you need to work on developing these key qualities as well if you want to succeed in this industry.
Below are the five characteristics and traits that will help you get far in the world of modeling:
1. Confidence
All models, whether newbies or seasoned, need to be self-assured and believe that they have what it takes to succeed all the time.
This confidence should be something that you should exude during auditions and go-sees. It is something that you must effortlessly showcase when you arrive at a photo shoot or runway show.
If you tend to be shy or timid, work hard to overcome it. These are characteristics that won’t take you far in the world of modeling.
2. Determination
Modeling is one of the most challenging industries around. As an aspiring teen model, it is highly likely that you will have to go through numerous obstacles to get your first job. You may face several rejections as well.
Being persistent is important in making a name for yourself in modeling. It can be easy to feel disappointed and upset whenever you get turned down. However, you have to overcome these negative feelings, be more positive, and continue to focus on your goals.
If you want to pursue modeling as a career, you should never give up easily. You should still go to every audition or casting call you are invited or can go to regardless of your poor success record. You need to always do your best to land a job every single time.
3. Professionalism
As a novice in the modeling industry, you can set yourself apart from the competition by being professional all the time.
Start by being punctual. Arrive at least 15 minutes before an audition, go-see, booking, or even an actual job. Never show up late since this will be a poor reflection of your commitment and your professionalism.
Additionally, be professional at all times whether you’re at your agent’s office, meeting with a client, or in a photo shoot or fashion show. Always dress the part and look your best during these events. More importantly, treat everyone you meet and work with nicely and courteously.
4. Diligence
Modeling is a physically and mentally demanding industry. During runway shows, you will have to be on your feet for hours. Photo shoots can last for long periods as well.
Because you literally have to be on your feet when you become a model, you need to be hard working. You have to remain eager and energetic in every show or photo shoot. Additionally, no matter how tired you may feel, you have to be friendly and engaged at all times.
Your diligence shouldn’t be confined to your actual work as well. You have to regularly work out, follow the right skin care routine, and maintain a nutritious diet to stay healthy, fit, and beautiful. All these call for more effort on your part.
Additionally, you will need to exert a lot of effort in ensuring you won’t let your studies slide. You have to be diligent in studying for quizzes and exams and with doing your assignments and projects.
5. Reliability
Lastly, regardless of how experienced you are or what type of job you have booked, you should always be prepared. This means bringing along the usual items that you need as a model.
Some of the items you should always have in your model bag are:
- Your portfolio
- Basic makeup kit
- Pair of flats and heels
- Black and nude colored undergarments
- Healthy snacks and water
- Book, mobile phone, charger, and other items you need to entertain yourself
Also, make sure you have the item you have been asked by your agent or client to bring. Additionally, if you were asked to style your hair or apply your makeup, do all these ahead of time.
Being reliable also means being efficient while you are working. You have to follow instructions and work quickly and effectively to ensure you meet each client’s goals without too many hassles or difficulties.
Developing these qualities will require time and effort. The upside is you can continue working on them as you pursue your modeling career. By doing so, you will further boost your chances of being a professional model at a young age.
In time, you will find that all these qualities will help take you far in life, inside and outside of modeling.
