Follow That Girl NYC Raises Awareness of Domestic Abuse

On Tuesday, May 1, 2012, the Copacabana rooftop lounge played host to “Flavors of the City”, which was a wonderful food tasting charity event hosted by Follow That Girl NYC.  The event was created to raise awareness of domestic abuse and to benefit Socks 4 Tots, a not for profit organization that offers assistance to domestic abuse victims and their families.

It was foodie heaven!!! Guests enjoyed delectable cuisine created by chefs from New York City’s top restaurants. Legendary Chef Alex Garcia, restaurateur, TV personality, author and the original pioneer in creating the Nuevo Latin cooking movement was honored. Chef Garcia was accompanied by other restaurateurs, including Chef Joe “JJ” Johnson, winner of Bravo TV’s Rocco’s Dinner Party. Culinary dishes by Copacabana, Bice, Benjamin’s Steak House, Mamajuana Café, and others highlighted the event. Delicious desserts were made by Master Swedish Chocolatier Emanuel Andren, Georgetown Cupcakes, Astor Bake Shop, Sugar Flower Cake Shop, Primetime Pastries and more.

Taylor Armstrong, star of Bravo’s hit TV series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and New York Times Bestselling author for three consecutive weeks of “Hiding from Reality” was the host of this red carpet event. Taylor Armstrong, a survivor of domestic abuse herself, shared her personal experience with the crowd and brought further awareness by speaking about her new book.

There was a silent auction to help raise money for the cause. A portion of ticket sales and all proceeds from the silent auction were donated to  Socks 4 Tots. Items were donated by vendors including Shansen Jewelry by Shannon and Tamsen, Liz Russell AVEDA Salon, BICE Restaurant, Clear by Tasheka and Ketta Vaughn Cosmetics.

Honored also was Attorney Sanford A. Rubenstein, known as “One of America’s best known lawyers” by Hampton’s Magazine. He is a senior partner at the law firm of Rubenstein & Rynecki. Rubenstein is one of New York’s most sought-after advocates for victims’ rights in personal injury and civil rights matters. He represents female victims of violence, women against women and men against women.

Renowned DJ JUSS spun 4 consecutive hours of today’s top music mixing in the greatest classics. The crowd danced and noshed in style!
