Hair How To: Ashley Benson Japanese High Fashion Topknot

Hairstylist: Giannandrea, International Creative Director for Macadamia Professional

1.)    Apply Macadamia Professional Blow Dry Lotion ($24) from mid-lengths to ends of wet hair. Blow dry mid-sized sections with a large round brush to create a smooth blow out.

2.)    Using a large paddle brush, gather all the hair upwards to the crown of the head. Secure the hair into a ponytail with an elastic once hair is brushed smooth on all sides.

3.)    Emulsify one pump of Macadamia Professional Nourishing Moisture Oil Treatment ($39.95) in hands and run it through the sides and loose ends of the ponytail to create shine.

4.)    Wrap hair into a bun and leave the ends out in the final twist. Secure with a clear elastic band.

5.)    Wrap remaining hair around the base, covering the first elastic. Secure with straight pins at the base.

6.)    Smooth flyaways and secure by spraying Macadamia Professional Flex Hold Shaping Hairspray ($25) around the entire style.

7.)    Finish with a light mist of Macadamia Professional Weightless Moisture Dry Oil Micro Mist ($31.95) all over to add shine.

Actress Hailee Steinfeld looked stunning at the 2016 Radio Disney Awards on April 30, 2016, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Hailee’s makeup artist Stephen Sollitto shares the scoop on how to recreate her red carpet look! 

 

INSPIRATION: “I was inspired by her chic Michael Kors dress. It was so simple, yet with the stone trim at the bottom it was a knock out. I wanted to do a poppy lip especially since the dress was black. Also, as this was a Disney event, a red lip here felt too serious for the younger audience. This pink shade Hailee wore was playful as well as a great compliment to the entire look,” says Stephen.

 

GET THE LOOK – Here is Stephen’s step-by-step breakdown:

 

  • For an event like this where there’s a red carpet, a performance and an after party, fresh skin is essential for creating the perfect canvas. If it doesn’t look healthy – no makeup is going to help. So, to prep Hailee’s face I used Bioré Self Heating One Minute Mask. This thermal mask gives you purified pores in just one minute. It has charcoal in it that heats up with water to open pores and draw out dirt and oil.
  • Once her skin was nourished, I used Makeup Forever Ultra HD foundation.
  • Next, with a loose brush, I dusted Dior Diorskin Forever & Ever Control loose powder.
  • Then I started on her eyes –I wanted a bit of color, so I used an Antonym Pinkish pencil all over the lid and blended it out for a creamy warm look. Following this, at the lash line I drew on MAC Raven – a rich eggplant color.
  • Over that to soften the line, I brushed Laura Mercier Aubergine eye shadow – a beautiful sheeny purple.
  • Then to help make her eyes pop even more, I used two coats of Diorshow mascara.
  • For a flush of color I stippled on NARS blush in Outlaw – a great compliment to her eyes.
  • To top off the look – and to keep it as chic as the dress – I used Laura Mercier Lipstick in Pink Dust.

Chic, Stylish and Extremely Comfortable….it’s the Healthy Back Bag!

I can tell you from the fun experience I had with it, the Healthy Back Bag will be my new travel companion. Instagram & Professional Photography

Instagram has impacted almost every aspect of our lives. It has revolutionized the manner in which we wine, dine, or view the sunset. Being a photo-sharing app, Instagram has obviously, impacted how we view professional photography. Today everyone pretends to be a professional photographer simply because they are able to take near perfect pictures at the drop of a hat. Pictures that were taken by expert professional photographers certainly hold dynamic intricacies in terms of advanced compositional knowledge, or quality and Instagram’s pictures cannot match these.

The Realization

Does that mean that Instagram photographs represent lesser art? Of course not. You need to realize that aesthetic sensibilities differ from person to person depending on personal preferences, affinities, and experience. Good could really be an arbitrary term, as far as, the world of art is concerned. You may regard one picture to be aesthetically more pleasing than another one. But everyone may not agree with your viewpoint.

The Verdict

Professional photography would never lose its significance and charm, but instead, it should be approached with a whole new heightened level of admiration and respect no matter how common, accessible and fun Instagram is now able to make taking, as well as, sharing of photographs. However, we have to appreciate the value of Instagram and the effective ways in which it has been able to help people connect to each other in the society as a whole. We cannot undermine the role of Instagram and at the same time, we have to acknowledge that photojournalism and professional photography are superior to the iPhone or other smartphone-captured moments. We can end the discussion with a fantastic observation made by an expert who claims that Instagram pictures are definitely not photojournalism. They are not even perfect, but they are simply life, as it is.

Put a Ring on It

Need a chair and Pilates ring

1.)  Sit with back against the chair hold the ring in your hands, arms straight out with palms

facing each other and pulse

2.)  Sit at edge of chair but the ring between your knees and squeeze the ring hold count of 3 –

release and then repeat.

3.)  Sit with back against the chair hold your arms out and bent like you are holding a big ball.

Grip the ring and squeeze for a count of 3 release and then repeat.

4.)  Sit with back against the chair place  the ring at your ankles put your legs straight out then

pulse.

Do this tabata  style 30 seconds on 10 seconds off for 5 rounds.

10 Things you need to know about Laser Hair Removal

Spruce & Bond specialist, Keiann Roberts breaks it down so you know what to expect beforehand:

1. You need to shave before your appointment so the technician can place the laser directly on the root of the hair.
2. At Spruce & Bond our lasers have a setting that adjusts to not only your skin type, but your hair type as well. The laser fires a concentrated beam of light that’s directed at the pigment in your hair follicles. This kills the follicle at its root, preventing them from growing back.
3. Avoid waxing up to 4 weeks before your appointment. The laser targets the pigment of your hair follicle, and the follicle actually has to be there in order for this to work.
4. It takes at least 5-6 sessions to achieve perfection.
5. Stay consistent with your appointments. Space them out every 4-6 weeks so you hair has enough time to cycle as your hair follicles are on their own growth cycle.
6. Some hair and skin types might be a little harder to treat but it’s still possible. Dark hair follicles are usually easy to treat because, again, the laser targets the hair’s pigment. This is also why gray, white, blonde, and red pigments can be tricky. Spruce & Bond uses a Gentlelase Laser which is color blind, meaning that it has the ability to target any color hair on any skin tone.

7. Avoid direct sunlight on that area and always use a moisturizer with SPF to prevent additional redness.
8. During your treatment, the sensation will feel like a rubber band snapping against your skin. Each session is about 20-30 minutes depending on what you are getting done.
9. During the next day or two after, it’s normal for your skin to appear a little red. Avoid excessive heat and apply Aloe Vera to relive redness.
10. The permanent results from your laser hair removal are something you will never forget!
