How Guys Can Prepare for a Date with Makeup for Men

Make up for men

Got a hot date coming up? Most guys prepare by planning out where to go and what to wear. You spend hours searching for the right outfit and romantic restaurants, but you’re forgetting one thing. Your face! You can actually enhance your date-night look by adding mens makeup into your grooming routine.

You might be cringing right now, but it’s really not that bizarre. Some of the hottest celebrities use mens makeup to perk up their faces before a red-carpet event. It’s just not publicized the same way we glorify women’s beauty. Even online trendy menswear stores – like Differio – are getting in on the trends in mens makeup by providing men with cosmetic essentials, such as guyliner, tinted moisturizer and lipstick for men.

Since mens makeup is still very new to the men’s grooming products world, don’t feel out of the loop if you have no clue how to implement these items in to your get-ready routine. Here are the best tips for prepping your face with makeup for men before a big date.

Achieve a clean slate.

Have you ever wondered what’s the secret to achieving a flawless face? While shaving is always a good start, it actually begins with your skin. By achieving a clear complexion, you’re not only prepping your skin for men’s makeup, but also treating your body’s largest external organ with a glamorous boost.

There are actually a couple things you can do the night before to prep your skin. For starters, men’s face masks are highly underrated among men, but they shouldn’t be! They’re basically your secret weapons for enhancing your skin with hydrating ingredients that can help reduce dry skin, redness and even pimples. When you’re done getting your mask on, you should follow up with a night cream to lock in moisture.

At the very least, you’re guaranteed to wake up looking refreshed with brighter skin. If you’re a guy with a lot of blemishes and pimples, you should look into tinted moisturizer (also known as BB cream) for lighter coverage or foundation for men for heavier coverage. For those that get the occasional pimple, concealer stick is enough to hide specific spots.

Enhance your best features.

Since it’s a date, you probably want your best facial features to shine. In order to do this with makeup for men, it really depends on what area of your face you’re trying enhance.

Eyes:

Your eyes are one of the most common features that people notice based on first impressions. There are a few ways to enhance your eyes without making it obvious that you’re wearing eye makeup for men.

First, don’t underestimate your eyelashes. By simply lifting and volumizing your lashes, it can literally be an eye opener for making your eyes appear bigger and brighter. You can use a mens eyelash curler to curl your lashes; followed by a layer of mascara for men. For the most natural lash look, you can use clear manscara to maintain the curl.

 Lips:

It’s time to upgrade your lip-balm-and-done routine. You can make your lips stand out by using mens lipstick to add a pop of color. It’s applied just the same as any other lip balm, but be careful not to go outside your lip line.

For guys that want something more natural looking, you should try color-changing jelly lipstick for men. It’s kind of like a hybrid between lip gloss and tinted lip balm. These color-enhancing lipsticks brighten your lips depending on your skin’ pH level while providing a subtle shine.

Keep it you.

Most importantly, you want your date to get a sense of who you are, which also affects the way you should apply makeup for men. If you feel like wearing less or more mascara will boost your confidence, then go for it. You shouldn’t feel obliged to wear a certain amount and abide by rules. Some guys feel more comfortable wearing a full face of makeup with heavy guyliner. Some guys prefer going for the no-makeup makeup look. Do what feels like you!

Kylie Jenner at the VMAs Hair by Celebrity Stylist Andrew Fitzsimons

Kylie Jenner at the VMAs Hair by: Andrew Fitzsimons

Kylie Jenner at The VMAs

Kylie Jenner at The VMAs

  1. Start by spritzing the hair with Alterna Haircare Caviar Repair Multi-Vitamin Heat Protection Spray onto her damp hair. Kylie’s hair is newly blonde, so I have to be super careful with it, especially when I use heat tools.
  2. I blow dried her hair smooth with the ghd Air Hair Dryer and ghd Natural Bristle Radial Brush. It was important for me to use a natural brush and not ceramic or metal to protect her hair from the heat.
  3. I created the part on the left side of her hair and sprayed her hair with the Alterna Caviar Perfect Iron Spray before flat ironing her hair with the ghd platinum Styler Flat Iron. I knew I wanted the bun to be at the very center in the back of her head (just above the Occipital bone), so I directed all of the hair toward the area, except the front section to create the swoop. I took two little pieces of hair in front of her ears to help frame her face.
  4. I sprayed a ghd Oval Dressing Brush with Paul Mitchell Hair Spray to smooth the hair toward the back of the head (spraying the brush every couple of strokes).
  5. I secured the hair with a bungee hair tie and twisted her ponytail back onto itself clockwise. I secured the bun with hair pins (a similar colour to her hair) and sprayed all over with the hair spray.
  6. To give a glassy sheen, I sprayed a coat of the Alterna Haircare Caviar Omega+ Anti-Frizz Dry Oil Mist.

Benefits Of An Oatmeal Mask For Skin And Hair

The benefits of an oatmeal mask for skin and hair include hydration, nourishment, and healing. Multiple studies prove that oats are one of the healthiest foods in existence (Journal of Food Science and Technology). This means that eating oatmeal regularly can benefit your skin nearly as much as applying a homemade mask, though the results of the latter will be noticeable immediately.

Oatmeal

Benefits of an Oatmeal Mask for Skin and Hair Explained

Oatmeal is so good for your skin and hair because it’s highly nutritious. It’s particularly rich in antioxidants, as well as zinc, iron, magnesium, and copper. Zinc is a major reason for the skin benefits of oats because it enhances healing. This is why oatmeal masks are so good for acne-prone and irritated skin.

It’s because of its high nutrition value that oatmeal also benefits your beauty from within. By adding it to your diet, you ensure that your body gets all vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants necessary for maintaining skin health and elasticity. Oatmeal is also one of the best appetite suppressants. Therefore, it can help you lose weight while enhancing your natural beauty.

You also shouldn’t forget that studies provided solid evidence that eating oats regularly reduces the risk of cardiovascular heart disease. By boosting the health of your cardiovascular system, oatmeal helps improve blood flow, which is an important part of the natural beauty enhancement process.

The benefits of an oatmeal mask for hair are similar. This remedy will make the skin of your scalp healthier, thus making your hair healthier also. Due to its antibacterial and healing properties, an oatmeal hair mask can help treat dandruff and itchy scalp.

Best Oatmeal Mask Recipes for Skin and Hair

  • Coconut oil & oatmeal face mask.
This face mask will improve the condition of acne-prone skin and help get rid of a breakout. Dissolve a tablespoon of coconut oil in a bowl with ¼ cup of warm water. Add 3 tablespoons of oatmeal and stir to combine. Apply the paste on your face and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
  • Almond oil & oatmeal hair mask.
Use this mask to nourish and heal dry and damaged hair. Combine ½ cup of oatmeal, ½ cup of milk, and 1-2 tablespoons of almond oil. Apply the mix on your hair and leave for 20 minutes, covered by a plastic shower cap. Rinse off with warm water and shampoo your hair as usual.

Dr. Nava Greenfield , Schweiger Dermatology Group Tells Us Sun Protection Is Important All Year Long.

Nava Greenfield, MD

Nava Greenfield, MD

Dr. Nava Greenfield  reminds us that summer is soon coming to an end but that is no reason to get lazy with your sun care.

“Summer is almost over but sun protection is as important as ever,” says Dr. Nava Greenfield from Schweiger Dermatology Group. “Even if your skin already has sun exposure you should still be avoiding ultraviolet light exposure for your skin health and to prevent accelerated aging. Sunscreen is a great start but it does not fully protect.”

Here, Dr. Greenfield’s gives us tips on how best to protect yourself during the last few weeks of summer and beyond:

1) Keep yourself in the shade: bring an umbrella to the beach and sit under a tree at the park. The UV rays will be blocked by these physical barriers.

2) Take a sun protection supplement. It will be the easiest part of your skin routine and should be taken rain or shine. Plant based and clinically proven ingredients, get SPF Boost supplements at select Schweiger Dermatology Group locations.

3) Wear a broad rimmed hat and UPF clothing. You can purchase these at many online retailers such as cabalinfe.com or coolibar.com. Wearing sun protected clothes on sunny days will go a long way to preventing late summer sun burns.

4) Wear sunglasses with total UV protection: Protecting against UVA and UVB are both important so make sure the glasses state they protect against both.

5) Reapply your sunscreen every two hours. A chemical based sunscreen (avobenzone, octinoxate) will stay on longer especially if in the water or during exercise with heavy sweating, but will not be effective after about two hours of use. A physical sunscreen (zinc or titanium dioxide) will wash off more easily in water or sweat. Make sure to reapply at least every two hours or after a dip in the pool.

6) Remember to apply sunscreen to your hands before you drive. Your hands are exposed to ultraviolet light if they are on the wheels and they will age more quickly than the rest of your skin if they are chronically exposed in the car. Car windows do not block the harmful UV rays.

BELLY BLOATING: DOC SHARES WHAT TO EAT AND WHAT TO AVOID

Regardless of weight or body type, it’s common to see some belly bloat. The foods we choose, how we’re digesting and simply the air we’re swallowing, can all add up to feeling and looking bloated. To help us keep our bellies as bloat free as possible, is Dr. Niket Sonpal, Adjunct Assistant Professor at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, Board Certified in Internal Medicine specializing in gastroenterology, digestive health and nutrition, who shares what to eat and what to avoid and why.

“It’s really important to pay attention to bloat, especially when it either comes on suddenly or is prolonged with pain. It is possible to develop an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine which gives that distended belly and full feeling,” explains Dr. Sonpal.

The discomfort caused by bloating is a fixable issue. Watching the choices you are making and the way your body is reacting to them is key.

According to Dr. Sonpal, here are some foods to steer clear of when it comes to banishing the bloat.

  1. Simple Carbs

The general population is aware that foods like soft drinks, sweets, desserts, and white bread are not conducive to a healthy diet. Simple carbs are processed into the bloodstream very quickly and have little nutritional value other than the energy they add to your body. When there is an overflow of energy being stored in your body versus what you are burning you begin to gain weight and feel bloated.

  1. Processed starches

Limiting pasta or bread to a once per week treat can really make an impact when addressing bloat. These foods are like sponges when it comes to water.

When you cut starches, you’ll notice bloat minimizes pretty quickly.

  1. Sugar substitutes and faux sweeteners

Here’s the catch, you may think you’re doing the right thing by opting for “fat-free” or “sugar-free” food options that say they are “derived from real sugar.” Dr. Sonpal clarifies that these kinds of sugars are actually low-digestible carbohydrates. Our bodies metabolize them differently due to their chemical structure leaving them hanging around in our small intestine leading to bloat.

  1. Raw cauliflower (and other uncooked cruciferous vegetables).

Cauliflower has become the “it” vegetable because it takes on the flavor of anything it’s mixed with. We see recipes for cauliflower mashed, cauliflower pizza, fried “rice,” and even mac and cheese; all created with cauliflower as the main ingredient. When cooked, these vegetables are great sources of nutrition and fine side dish substitutes for pasta, rice, and potatoes. However, when cauliflower is chopped up and eaten raw along with kale, broccoli and brussels sprouts you can expect bloating to occur. Cooking is key!

  1. Salt

If you want to reduce water retention which always leads to a bloated stomach, cut out the salt. In fact, if you have a lunchtime meal you can significantly reduce the bloat and puffiness simply by avoiding salty foods for the remainder of the day. People who are mindful of their salt intake, prepare their own foods and avoid things like canned soups, chips, bacon, sausage, lunch meats will look and feel leaner.

What not to fear:

  1. Ripe Bananas!

What’s not to love about bananas. You can grab one on the go, they are high in potassium which is another thing that rids water retention.

  1. Cucumbers

They’re known to reduce swelling and given they contain the flavonoid antioxidant, quercetin. Cool crisp and delicious they’re common to salads and they can also be eaten solo as a snack. You can also add them to water.

  1. Watermelon

Chunks of watermelon are low calorie and filled with water (over 90%) and very low sugar.

Watermelons are mostly water — about 92 percent — but this refreshing fruit is soaked with nutrients. Each juicy bite has significant levels of vitamins A, B6 and C, lots of lycopene, antioxidants and amino acids. There’s even a modest amount of potassium.

  1. Fermented Foods

Kimchi, sauerkraut, pickles, and kombucha. These high probiotic, bacteria-friendly fermented foods are key to maximizing digestion and maintaining a healthy gut.

  1. Drink water and green tea!

Since carbonated beverages contribute to bloat stick to water and flavored teas. Sipping on these beverages throughout the day keeps the digestive system moving. When you are water deprived your body will hold on to the water already in your body without excretion leading to appearing bloated.

Things to avoid when dealing with belly bloat include:

  1. Drinking from a straw

The mechanisms of straws make it so that you suck air in to take sips of your drink. An excess of this can fill you up with air and cause bloating.

  1. Sleeping right after eating

Many people get drowsy right after a meal. The best course of action is to go for a walk or do something that gives you a bit of energy and helps your body process your meal. Going to bed right after eating cripples your digestive process, slowing down the breakdown of your food.

  1. Eating Too Rapidly

If you find yourself struggling with bloating observing the pace at which you eat can help reduce the amount of air you intake while consuming the foods you love. Generally taking more time to enjoy your meal.
