How To Make Your Eyes Pop This Summer

We all know the dangers of the sunshine in the summer months, and we all know that wearing protective eye wear is essential to fight against the harsh rays. They are also the way to stop yourself from getting new wrinkles by squinting all the time!

With constant squinting, your eyes can look tired and be a total giveaway that you’re not wearing the right eye protection! However, there are so many ways that you can brighten your eyes and reduce the wrinkles appearing. You want your eyes looking healthy and bright all year, including the summer where you’re likely to take more selfies with your friends by the pool. Let’s take a look at some of the ways that you can ensure your eyes are whiter, brighter and healthier this year.

White Eyeliner

The fastest and easiest way to brighten up your eyes is with white eyeliner. The eyeliner gives the whites of your eyes the illusion they have brightened up – even when they haven’t. There are plenty of eyeliner options on the market, but the MAC Fascinating one is perfect.

Wrinkle Reduction

It may sound like something you would never do, but eyelid surgery is a surefire way of reducing the look of those wrinkles from squinting at the sunshine. You can reduce puffiness and change the way that your eye shape sits – in a good way.

Shape Your Brows

Believe it or not, the shape of your eyebrows can change how bright your eyes look. They will frame your eyes and give you a more sophisticated look at the same time. Tidy brows make for tidy eyes; don’t forget that.

Realize Your Color Potential

Playing with different eye shadow colors can make a difference to the brightness of your eyes. Blue eyes go so well with a rust color, where brown and hazel eyes pop with bronze and gold. Once you work with the colors that will make your eyes stand out, you can really see the difference and feel so confident on the beach.

Moisturize

You may be moisturizing your face every day, but the skin around your eyes is thinner than the rest. You need to ensure that the moisturizer that you use here has a high SPF so that you don’t burn in the sunshine.

Sunglasses

We’ve mentioned this already, but you should remember that sunglasses will stop the skin around your eyes from aging prematurely. Not only that, but you’ll be able to see in the sun without squinting hard and looking too tired!

Avoid Chlorine

You should 100% go swimming this summer, but you should also choose to wear goggles if you’re swimming for exercise. You could react to the chlorine and find your eyes bloodshot and sore when you get out again. Instead, use goggles and ensure that you look after your eyes the best way that you can while you’re away.

Bright eyes for summer? Totally achievable in so many ways. Embrace them and be careful with your sight.

Donna’s Beauty Check List

I am a mature woman and have dealt with many of the things that can make one appear less beautiful and older if they are not addressed. That being said, I put together a list of beauty items that can help a woman look both youthful and healthy, no matter her age.  In my next articles I will address how to achieve the below list in detail.

Donna Spangler actress/ Producer

  • Donna’s Beauty Checklist
    Face
How is your skin? Examine it. Is it smooth? Acne? Hydrated? Evenly toned? Dry? Flaky? Sun damage? If your skin is heavily damaged, you might want to consider a light chemical peel.
How are your eyes? Red? Clear? Puffy? Circles?
How are your brows? Are they bushy or trimmed well? Coloring?
Are your lips plump and even? Chapped?
Any facial hair? A simple laser treatment will take care of this evil.  Also, plucking or buying an inexpensive facial hair remover is an option as there are many on the market today.
Lashes – Are they lush and healthy or sparse and short?
Makeup – wearing too much can be extremely off-putting. Learn the perfect amount to highlight your face. Enlist the help of a friend or professional if you need guidance. There are also some great makeup videos on YouTube.
    Hair
Is your hair healthy? Thick? Well-groomed?
Is the color rich and flattering to your complexion? Do you have roots?
Is the style up-to-date and becoming? Split ends? Frizz?
    Is it shiny or dull?

Thick healthy hair or the appearance of is important

This is my body at 54 years old! I am quite prod as I work out 3 to 4 days a week for about 1 hour in the morning!

Body
Is your body fit? Too heavy or too thin?
Is your muscle tone lacking?
Is your body skin sagging?
Do you have discolorations on your body?
Are your fingernails and toe nails groomed?
Are you in proportion? Top and bottom?
Skin color – way too tan/pale?
Is your skin dry and flaky?
Body hair?

Hygiene
Are your teeth clean, brushed and smelling good?

Are your teeth yellow? Missing? Stained? In need of orthodontics? Teeth are crucial to a beautiful face.
Have you showered?
Is your hair clean, groomed well?
Are your clothes pressed, well thought out and appropriate for where you will be going?
Next take a look at your overall package. Look at yourself honestly and write down the things you like and the things that you would like to work on. This may be painful as no one wants to face their flaws, but in order to change something you don’t like, it is essential to address it first.

After your candid evaluation, you need to make a list of your goals and objectives both physically and mentally. Set realistic goals, and give yourself a timeframe. I like to make both short and long-term goals and reward myself for each accomplishment as I make it. Great satisfaction comes from achieving these goals and you will feel so much better about yourself as progress is made.

Get the look from the Malan Breton show using Cargo Cosmetics

get-the-look from the Malan Breton show using Cargo Cosmetics.

Created by lead artist, Joey Sanchez for Cargo Cosmetics, the look was dubbed “Gotham Disco Dollies” and played off the 70s and 80s glam inspired collection. The face was made up of high impact shine on eyelids and cheekbones, with cancelled out brows and a bright, strong lip.
Get-the-look from Joey Sanchez:

PRIME THE FACE

  • Prime the face using the Cargo HD Picture Perfect Pore Refining Primer followed by foundation.

CANCEL OUT THE BROWS

  • Use wax on the brows to create a base for cancelling. This is not a total drag queen style, but we took a page out of those fierce ladies’ book! Layer on the wax and use translucent powder until completely flattened and matte.
  • Cover the brow using a creamy concealer with a thick consistency as opposed to liquid foundation. I used Cargo Cosmetics’ Double Agent Concealing Balm.
  • I then went back and lined the inner part of the brow with the Brow Pencil and set it with powder.

HIGHLIGHT AND CONTOUR

  • Match concealer to the model’s inner wrist to find the right shade for highlighting and drawing their features forward. This is a tip I use to bring forth dimensions in the face. Finish with Cargo HD Picture Perfect Pressed Powder all over to set.
  • Now that you have your perfect, blank canvas – we get to do the fun stuff! We used the Cargo ColorStick in “Champagne” as an eye shadow base and used it to highlight cheekbones followed by the Matte Bronzer for contouring.

ADD LOTS OF SHEEN AND DEFINITION TO THE EYES

  • We used a mix of the Cargo Eye Shadow Single in “Toronto” with the Colorstick in “Champagne” for the eyes. Lots of shimmer and sheen that look amazing – almost wet – under the runway lights.
  • The hot lights made Cargo’s Swimmables water-resistant (aka sweat proof!) line a must. We lined using the Eye Pencil in “Black Sea.” I winged out the liner diffusing as I go for a more blended look. We also lined the inner waterline and lower lashes.
  • I added falsies for lots of drama and finished the look off with Cargo’s new Boundless Lashes Mascara.

FINISH WITH A STRONG RED POUT

  • For the lips, I primed with the HD Lip Primer, lined using Swimmables Lip Pencil in “Moscow” and then made a custom blend of the Essential Lip Color in “Paris” and “Sedona” for that beautiful red shade. Topped it off with a shimmer Lip Gloss on the bottom pout and cupid’s bow in “Belgium.”

SKINDINAVIA 10-Year anniversary

The Makeup Artist’s Choice For Flawless 16-Hour Makeup

skindinavia award

Award-winning cosmetics brand SKINDINAVIA celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The original authority on makeup finishing sprays, SKINDINAVIA is the professional choice for that all-day just-applied look. Applied as a lightweight, breathable mist, SKINDINAVIA makeup finishing sprays are the only product clinically-proven to set liquid and powder makeup and hold cosmetics vibrantly in place for up to 16 hours.

SKINDINAVIA recently expanded its lineup with the first and only lightweight, silicone-free primer spray that delivers a smooth canvas for impeccable, long-wear makeup application that offers long-term skin benefits. The lightweight, good-for-you oil-control primer spray delivers a balanced canvas for all-day makeup wear that slows oil production, prevents redness, uneven skin tone and large pores.

Skindinavia was created in one of the more unlikely places. It was there, at a Miami nightclub, that eventual SKINDINAVIA founder Allen Goldman found inspiration – in the face of glitter, lipstick and oppressive heat.

Cosmetics industry veteran, Goldman found himself surrounded by melted makeup. Beautiful women mingled with shiny foundation and streaked bronzer, fanning their faces to no avail. Drawing upon his cosmetic industry experience, he theorized that if he was able to keep makeup from becoming overheated, he could solve the problem of makeup meltdown that had yet to have a solution. That day SKINDINAVIA was born.

Goldman earned access to top national chemists and an interesting ingredient piqued his interest. He observed a new temperature-control technology could provide a time-released cooling property on the surface of the skin when needed.  He then came up with the simple idea of using this to keep the makeup surface cool to prevent makeup meltdown and excess shine.

The product launched to the acclaim of high-style film and television studio artists in New York and Los Angeles as it greatly reduced the need for touch-ups on set during long days under hot studio lighting. Tested under extreme conditions for makeup such as NYC subways, Vegas showgirls performing in 110 degree heat and Lady Gaga’s international tours, SKINDINAVIA has become the number one choice of global makeup artists community and by women everywhere who want to be sure their makeup always looks freshly applied.

“I gave it a good test run by sleeping in my makeup after the GLAMOUR Women of the Year Awards and

I’m happy to say that I woke up looking just as fresh as I went to bed the night before.”

– Andrea Pomerantz Lustig

SKINDINAVIA, founded in 2005 by cosmetics industry veteran Allen Goldman, creates products that set and enhance the work of makeup artists during long days under hot studio lighting. Our revolutionary Makeup Finishing Spray was launched in 2007, after two years of development, to the acclaim of high-style film and television studio artists in New York and Los Angeles as it greatly reduced the need for touch-ups on set. It remains the only makeup setting product clinically tested to hold for 16 hours.

SKINDINAVIA was the first brand to use patented Temperature Control Technology to keep makeup from melting and becoming too shiny and is clinically-proven to keep those colors vibrant for up to 16 hours. Today, SKINDINAVIA is the number one choice of global makeup artists community and by women everywhere who want to be sure their makeup always looks freshly applied.

The only makeup spray to be clinically-proven to extend makeup wear for 16+ hours. Used by Lady Gaga, Fergie on tour!

  • 90% of users agree: their makeup looked as good at the end of the day as the moment it was applied.
  • Proven to help keep makeup from settling into pores, fine lines and wrinkles.
  • The patented Temperature Control Technology® keeps the makeup surface cool to avoid melting or sliding.

Read more about SKINDINAVIA Makeup Primer Spray

The first silicone-free makeup spray primer on the market. Silicone is so slippery it can actually make your makeup “pool” into pores. This primer has been clinically shown to reduce pore size, redness and users also noticed fewer breakouts and balanced sebum production over 4 weeks, it’s like you’re misting the equivalent of green juice, let’s say, on your skin every single day that helps your it rebound and counteract the effects of talcs, foundation, etc.

skindinavia makeup primer spray results

In a third-party clinical trial:

  • 93% of users said it made their pores look less noticeable.
  • 97% said their skin appears less oily throughout the day.
  • 90% said their makeup has never looked better!

Personal note: I tried The MakeUp Primer Spray and am anxious to see the complete results with the Makeup Finishing Spray. I must remember to “shake it well” as directed on the bottle – So be sure to do that first. I have a habit of forgetting but I am working on that. I do see a great improvement in my make up settling into my (YIKES, must I say it…) fine lines and wrinkles. It doesn’t settle there! I follow the package directions and spray 3 to 4 times in an X and T formation.  It feels so refreshing going on, I can’t help but spray some on my neck and decollete too.  I want to give it a week or so more of use to find even better improvement in the results. I hope to report back soon on the Finishing Spray! Lisa 🙂

From Kim K. West to Elizabeth Taylor’s Cleopatra

Pat McGrath Transforms Kim Kardashian West into

Elizabeth Taylor’s Cleopatra for The Violet Files

Today, (8/12/15), on the latest cover of The Violet Files, the editorial site of Hollywood insider and beauty guru Cassandra Grey, Kim Kardashian West is transformed into the iconic Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra through the artistry and makeup design by Pat McGrath.

“I would have done anything—I would have trusted Pat’s vision no matter what she wanted—but I was really excited that it was the Cleopatra vibe,” says Kim Kardashian West of the collaboration with makeup artist Pat McGrath.

Kim K. West as Elizabeth Taylor's famous Cleopatra

Kim K. West as Elizabeth Taylor’s famous Cleopatra

“Elizabeth Taylor’s makeup in Cleopatra has been re-created countless times, but for Kim I wanted to create an interpretation that has never been done before, a futuristic 3D version,” Ms. McGrath explains. “I wanted to portray a luxurious decadence by using elements of ornate facial jewelry constructed into shapes that pay homage to Egyptian culture, and of course to the rich exotic character that Taylor portrayed in this role.”

“Her eyeshadow was made from ground lapis stone and gold pyrite flecks,” notes Ms. McGrath. “Incorporating three-dimensional gold metal into the makeup design explores the concept of makeup as jewelry. I wanted the images to be luxurious, evoking a modern take on the opulence associated with Cleopatra’s makeup.”

Summer glow skincare tips

In the changing season our skincare routine needs to change up just a little as well. Getting to experiment and try out new things is what I am all about and I want to share some of my favorite skin care products for the summer. I find these may be best for oily to combination skin.

Beautiful summer glows start with cleansed skin. I am currently using Mary Kay’s Time Wise cleanser. In the summer, having oily skin, the oil glands can tend to feel like they are producing more oil. Time Wise is lightweight, creamy cleanser that helps to really slow down the oil production.

Moisturize!! Especially here in the summer months. If oily skin can get oilier then sometimes dry skin can get even dryer. No matter which skin type you have, moisturizer is what really balances out the over all look and feel of your skin. I currently use two moisturizers, and one facial oil, each one serves a different purpose. Seba Med is one I like to use to help slow down my oil and clear my skin of acne. The other is my Mad Hippie Face Cream. This one is my anti aging go to moisturizer. I use my Seba Med first let it dry then put my Mad Hippie on.

After we moisturize we cant forget to show the peepers some love. Goldfaden MD’s eye cream has been my eye opener. I use my ring finger and apply on the eye socket rather than directly under the eye.

Skincare is very important but beautiful skin starts on the inside. Healthy eating, and drinking plenty of water is the number one factor to beautiful glowing skin. Below I have compiled all these in a video which I have posted below. “I hope you enjoy and for some healthy eating check out ALOHA for some at home healthy recipes” Be sure to bookmark these!

Get the look: Shailene Woodley

Best Female Performance winner Shailene Woodley rocked the carpet last night at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards with a French inspired, bold yet naturally radiant look, created by Celebrity Makeup Artist Roxy.

Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley

To achieve this look, Roxy hydrated Shailene’s face by applying Laurel Whole Plants Organic Skin Facial Elixir to her face, neck and décolletage. Next, to even out her skin tone and achieve a flawless finish, Roxy applied a sheer foundation with a beauty blender sponge. She then softly played up the definition of Shailene’s cheek bones with a warm cream RMS Bronzer. Following this, for extra radiance, Roxy applied RMS illuminizer down the bridge of Shailene’s nose, above and around the corners of her brows, in a C shaped manner.

For her eyes, Roxy applied a chocolate brown liner along the top and bottom lash lines, diffusing it softly with a petite eye brush. To emphasize the eyes a bit more, she layered a soft black liner on her top lid with a subtle smudge. Last but not least, Roxy focused on Shailene’s lips, applying a mixture of Burt’s Bees Lip Crayons in Napa Vineyard and Redwood Forest ($9, www.burtbees.com), for a rich, bold and creamy red that finished the look flawlessly.
