Rowan Blanchard “S” Finger Wave by Celebrity Hairstylist Laurie Heaps

LA based celebrity hairstylist Laurie Heaps shares how she created this modern take on the Finger Wave for Rowan Blanchard.

Rowan Blanchard

Styled by celebrity hairstylist Laurie Heaps, actress Rowan Blanchard wore a modern take on the finger wave for the 2018 LACMA Art Film Gala. “To complement her Gucci dress, we wanted to bring a little theater into the mix, while still keeping the hairstyle contemporary,” explains Laurie.

To begin, Laurie created an off-center part and began curling 1-inch sections of hair with a 1-inch Curling Iron from Hot Tools.

“Before each section, I made sure to mist the hair with White Sands Liquid Texture Medium Styling Spray. It not only works as a heat protectant but it is also a setting spray. When paired with heat, the curl created keeps its shape until shampooed out which is key when molding and brushing hair into a finger wave style like this.”

While using the iron, Laurie made sure to alternate rows of curls backwards and forwards to create the “S” wave pattern. After each curl was created, she wrapped it around her index finger to create a mini circle of hair, securing it with a bobby pin.

Once the curls were cooled and unpinned, Laurie strategically brushed out the hair and molded it with her fingers into the “S” wave you see on the sides. “The back of her head was styled by dragging the curl from the crown to the nape so only the ends would tuck under and the crown would lay close to the head.”

To seal the style, use a hairspray like BioSilk’s Silk Therapy Finishing Spray Firm Hold for added shine and to smooth down any flyaways for a mirror like finish.

Clyde Haygood styles Demi Lovato for the 2017 Grammys

unnamed-10
At Sunday night’s 59th Annual Grammy Awards, Demi Lovato’s hair made a sultry statement.
Inspiration: Clyde was inspired by Demi’s sexy crocheted Julien McDonald gown to create long, loose mermaid waves

Step-by-step tips on how to recreate her look:

  • To start, apply a golf ball sized amount of John Frieda Frizz Ease  Dream Curls Air-Dry Waves Styling Foam section to section, from root to tip, throughout wet hair
  • For longer hair like Demi’s, apply product liberally to ensure hair is completely saturated with the foam
  • Allow hair to air dry–in this case, during the duration of makeup application–gently scrunching pieces during the drying process
  • Once dry, take a 3/4 inch curling iron and bend strategic pieces throughout the hair, enhancing and defining the waves but pulling them loose as they cool for an elongated finish
  • To add sheen and the appearance of a “wet” finish, pump two palm-fulls of John Frieda Frizz Ease Extra Strength Six Effects + Serum and work it through hair, leaving hair with a beautiful shiny finish to glisten under the lights on the red carpet and the stage

Beautiful! Maisie Williams Hair 2017 SAG Awards

unnamed-22

At the 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards held at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams shined on the red carpet in her gorgeous pink gown and sleek hair style. Her go-to stylist, Ryan Richman, used MOP salon haircare products to create this glamorous and sophisticated look. See below for his step-by-step:

Hairstylist: Ryan Richman

Inspiration: The classic silhouette of Maisie’s dress

Look: Deep side part and old Hollywood glamour tousled curls

“I washed the hair with MOP Lemongrass Volume Shampoo ($22) to help ‘fatten up’ the hair.  On damp hair I applied a generous amount of MOP Lemongrass Volume Whip ($22) to add volume throughout the style and to protect against heat.

Using a medium boar bristle round brush and my Revlon Soft Feel AC Motor Dryer, I blow dried one inch sections, lifting at the root for maximum volume.

I created a deep side part with a comb and began to curl the hair with my Revlon Pro Collection 1″ Soft Feel Curling Iron, curling the hair toward the face for a retro feel. After curling I sprayed the hair with MOP C-System Firm Finish Hairspray ($24) to hold the curl.

Using a gentle scalp brush I brushed through the curls pulling them back off of the face to create uniform and soft old Hollywood waves.

To finish, I applied a dime size amount of MOP Orange Peel Molding Cream ($22) to my finger tips to clean up the hair line, smooth fly aways, and define texture by running my hands over the style gently.  I then tucked the small side of the part behind the ear and secured with a bobby pin.”

SEBASTIAN PROFESSIONAL STYLIST THOMAS DUNKIN COIFS ANTJE TRAUE FOR THE WORLD PREMIERE OF ‘MAN OF STEEL’

On Monday, June 10th at the Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City, actress Antje Traue walked the red carpet for the world premiere of the highly anticipated film, ‘Man of Steel.’  Traue, who plays the character Faora-UI, donned a chic, curve hugging white dress along with a soft, retro-inspired updo crafted by Sebastian Professional Lead Stylist Thomas Dunkin. Of the look, Dunkin says, “This is a very simple way to create a polished updo for a formal evening without looking too done up.”

To achieve Antje’s vintage hair look, follow Thomas’ tips:

1.)    Begin by soaking hair thoroughly with Sebastian Professional Thickefy Foam.

2.)   Once hair is saturated, blow dry using a large round brush and create as much root lift and volume as possible.

3.)   After hair is dried, take 2” sections of hair and wrap each section around a large barreled curling iron.

4.)   Once all of the sections are curled, brush through and create a ponytail, leaving out the pieces that fall naturally.

5.)    Spritz Sebastian Professional Shaper to keep the hair in place all night long.
