Beauty thats good enough to drink

Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, it’s a beauty routine you can really drink to. Starting in ancient Egypt, women of upper class beer was used for many different beauty needs as well as therapeutic. It helped to reduce skin conditions and freshen the skin giving off a healthy, shining glow. Now here we are and scientists have discovered that the brewers yeast can help eliminate acne, slow down sebum production and the pH level in beer can help tighten the hair follicle. Brewer’s yeast contains ingredients such as vitamin B12, and biotin making it not only great for your outside but for your inside’s as well (just drink responsibly). As a matter of fact countries over seas have what are called ” Beer Spas” where you can go and take a leisurely dip in a giant tub of beer. I’d say “bring out some potato skins and pretzels please I’m gonna be here a while”. Unfortunately there are no reports of “Beer Spas” in the US…yet. Let’s keep our fingers crossed lol.

Beer

Beer

Having oily, acne prone skin and overly oily hair, beer has been one of my lifesavers. Through my research and testing, beer has really transformed my hair and skin. Even my nails. Having incorporated a DIY beer mask and a little beer rinse in my weekly routine, I feel like a million bucks and definitely enjoy the leftovers ;). I still do my current routine but I have found it to be essential to add Here is the DIY beer mask I use on myself:

Combine 1 tbsp. of your favorite beer with 1 tsp. plain yogurt, 1 tsp. olive oil, 1 egg white, 1 tsp. lemon extract and 1 tsp. almond extract.

Mix until all of the ingredients are incorporated. Lightly wet the face with warm water and apply the mask. Allow the mask to dry for 15 minutes and then rinse with warm water. Complete the experience with a cold water splash, and step back and admire your beer-kissed skin.

I enjoy this as a body mask as well. Makes body acne disappear!

Eating habits to promote hair growth

Continuous washing, styling and coloring can wreak havoc on the hair. To encourage optimal hair health, focus on a diet rich in essential vitamins, minerals, proteins and beneficial fats.

As an established leader in hair growth, HairMax provides a list of super foods known to strengthen, from the inside out:

Protein:

Chicken

Chicken

Hair is comprised of about 97% protein, a critical building block of the body. Without it, the body can’t replace the hairs that you naturally shed.

Prevent unnecessary hair loss by reaching for soy, poultry and lean cuts of beef.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids:

Salmon

Salmon

The hair shaft consists of 2-3% of omega-3s, which are also found in the scalp’s cells and sebum, known to hydrate the scalp and hair.

Since the body doesn’t produce its own omega-3s, ensure silky strands by consuming walnuts, salmon, sardines, trout, mackerel, avocado and pumpkin seeds.

Zinc:

nuts

nuts

Support the glands attached to your hair follicles with zinc, a mineral whose absence causes hair to weaken and fall out. Zinc also promotes balanced hormone levels, which is directly linked to hair health.

To strengthen those tresses, opt for oysters, whole-grain breads, nuts, beef, eggs and shrimp.

Iron:

Greens

Greens

Vital for the production of hemoglobin, which is responsible for oxygen transport through blood, iron is necessary to ensure healthy blood flow to stimulate hair growth.

To encourage hair growth, reach for raisins, dried cherries, eggs, kale, dates and whole-grain cereals.

Don’t have time to eat right? Sometimes our body needs that little extra help to get the essential nourishment needed for healthy hair growth. Reach the daily nutritional goals not fulfilled through diet alone with HairMax’ Dietary Supplements. The nutrient-rich formulas are specifically designed with androgen blockers and powerful antioxidants to support scalp health and promote hair growth. See more at www.hairmax.com

Eliminate Acne & Reduce Cellulite With This Quick DIY Exfoliator

After running out of my favorite exfoliator I became desperate to find one that worked just as well. Of course when I went to the store they were out of my favorite so I did the next best thing, made my own out of ingredients found in my cabinet. In my video I share how to make a great anti-aging coffee ground (caffeine helps eliminate cellulite and maintains elasticity in your skin) exfoliator that I have also found to help clear my acne. With other ingredients such as honey (natural antibacterial method), salt ( releases toxins from body) and olive oil (adds moisture, eliminates appearance of fine lines and wrinkles) this great exfoliator will make you feel refreshed and invigorated after every use.

Nectar Never Looked so Good

The sweet smell of nectar can now be enjoyed in your body wash.  Winner of the Best of Beauty 2011 for Allure magazine, Thymes Agave Nectar Foaming Bath is surely the best bath wash I have ever used.

When I was a little girl I developed a sensitivity to certain kinds of body wash, bubble baths  and even body lotions.  It seemed that no matter what I used I would breakout in rashes all over my body.  My mom had to buy me all these none fragrance products and I hated it.  Even to this day I have to be careful of what I use.  When I first used the Thymes Agave Nectar, I was afraid of what would happen.  After a couple tries I noticed that my skin was soft and supple and there was no sign of a rash anywhere. I was sooooooo excited.

For anybody with sensitive skin, or who just likes the scent of agave nectar, ruby red grapefruit, tangy guava, and lemon blossoms, all blended into  one bottle,  give Thymes Agave Nectar Foaming Bath a try.  I’m sure you will not only  like it, but LOVE it.

Gifts That Are Green

Desert Essence

Want to go green?  We all think that we have an idea what it means to be green. But, even though I think I know what it means to be green, a purist, and environmentally conscious, when I look at the list, I am dumbfounded.   It is a lot lengthier than I realized.  In order to be green….it needs to be vegetarian/vegan, recyclable, biodegradable, made from a renewable source, cruelty and fragrance free.  It can have no animal derived ingredients, or be tested on animals.  It can contain no parabens, artificial dyes or fragrances, petroleum compounds including mineral oil, petrolatum, and paraffin.  It can also contain no SLS, PEGS, PPG, MEA, DEA, TEA, glycols or phthalates.  It must also be made by a company that is socially and environmentally conscience.  The company needs to ensure that both their products and practices reflect the serious commitment to the health of our planet.   That is a pretty tall order…..does it truly exist?

Desert Essence was founded in 1972 to promote the countless benefits of Jojoba Oil and Aloe Vera.  They were the first company to introduce Australian Tea Tree Oil to the United States market.  In the 38 years that have followed, they have expanded their line to include natural and organic beauty care products specifically formulated to improve the lifestyles of today’s most health-conscious consumers.  Their products continue to evolve as more natural ingredients are discovered.  They have promised to bring the benefits of healing, beauty and renewal to our life, and to the life of the world we all share.

Desert Essence (www.desertessence.com) is inspired by the healing spirit of the desert.  The desert is not only their inspiration, but it is the source for their ingredients.  Native cultures have revered the healing properties of the nutrient-rich desert botanicals for centuries.  The desert landscape, even with its limited resources, is a model of pristine balance and sustainability.  The desert also offers the body and spirit untold benefits.  Desert Essence believes in renewal; renewal for the body, mind and spirit.

Jojoba oil, aloe and tea tree are naturally effective.  They have no harsh chemicals and work in harmony with our body to nature, soothe and restore. Desert Essence has an extensive and award winning product line.  They encompass skin care, bath and body products, oils, hair care, dental care, organics, and travel and gift packs.  The organic line includes the addition of ingredients such as pomegranate, almond, coconut, pistachio, pumpkin, citrus, vanilla chai, and Bulgarian lavender.  They are often cited in nationally recognized magazines, especially those promoting health, wellness and organic living.

Desert Essences corporate practices reflect their serious commitment in protecting and preserving the world we live in. They use natural and organic ingredients from around the world.  They support a federation of Australian plantation farmers who have signed a pledge not to use any artificial pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides.  There is also no animal testing on their raw materials or finished products.

In addition they offset 100% of their electricity annually by purchasing energy credits.  They print all of their brochures on paper recycled from chopsticks.  And they do the simple things, like turning off the lights when leaving any office or room.  Practices that hopefully other companies will incorporate.

Giving a gift of essential beauty, that is totally green and made from a company whose product and practices ensure the safety of the planet???   Priceless….
