Into the Deep Part

The deep part, seen on celebrities such as Gwen Stefani, Miranda Kerr and Alicia Keys, is an easy-to-do addition to any hairstyle for a dramatic look. Whether worn with hair up or down, curled or straight, this style can easily be achieved by following these steps below:

§  Step One: Start by prepping the hair with a shine-and body-enhancing product, such as UNITE Boosta Spray ($26.25).

§  Step Two: Next, using either a medium-barreled curling iron or a flat iron, straighten or curl the entire head.

§  Step Three: When finished, create a side part, and then part the hair from front to back, leaving layers out to frame the face.

§  Step Four: Finish off look with a flexible hairspray such as UNITE GO365 Hairspray ($31) to keep strands in place.

All UNITE Hair products are available on UNITEHair.com.

Fibromyalgia Awareness during the month of May!

Have you heard of fibromyalgia? Do you have a friend or family member who lives with fibromyalgia? Do “you” have fibromyalgia? Perhaps you’ve answered “Yes” to one or more of these questions, and if not, the intent of this article is to share some insight and awareness about a condition that over 5 million people suffer with in the United States.

So what exactly is fibromyalgia? Fibromyalgia is a “chronic widespread pain condition!” Generally, most of those diagnosed with fibromyalgia, are women and mothers.

That’s why Fibromyalgia Awareness Day was on Mother’s Day this year, and ongoing resources of information regarding Fibromyalgia Awareness continue to be shared throughout the month of May!

Acknowledging the significant effect that fibromyalgia has on women, especially moms, hopefully you’ll take some time during the month of May to go to: http://www.fibrocenter.com where you’ll find more information regarding fibromyalgia, useful resources, and be able to show support for mothers who live with this “challenging condition” by sending them a unique Fibromyalgia Awareness e-card! These e-cards are perfect to share through your social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, as well. Exposure like this will really help raise the awareness of fibromyalgia!

I’d like to introduce you to Jan Chambers, a mother of five children who has fibromyalgia and is also the President of the National Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Association. Jan was kind enough to do an interview with me that I believe you’ll find quite informational and inspiring!
Here is my interview with Jan Chambers:

Jan Chambers, president of the National Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain Association (NFMCPA)

Jan Chambers

#1. VICKI: What symptoms were you personally experiencing that encouraged you to contact a doctor, and as a result, be diagnosed with fibromyalgia?

JAN: In December 2005, I underwent surgery, and when I woke up from the operation, my world was forever changed. I had electrifying, shocking pain going through my body, and my left leg was numb. I kept saying that something felt terribly wrong, but my doctors told me it was just the after-effects from the anesthesia. When I went home, I was still hurting everywhere. I stayed on my couch for the next 16 months. The pain was so intense that I couldn’t allow anybody to touch me, and I slept with pillows all around me to keep my arms and legs from touching each other. The pain became so debilitating that I contacted my physician. I ultimately found out that these symptoms were due to fibromyalgia.

#2. VICKI: Is there a specific treatment for fibromyalgia or is medical care or therapy based on individual diagnoses?

JAN: Fibromyalgia symptoms can vary from person to person, so it is very important to work with your own physician to determine a multi-disciplinary treatment option that is right for you.

#3. VICKI: If you believe you may have symptoms of fibromyalgia, would your primary physician be the first person to contact?

JAN: Yes, your primary care physician is a good starting point, and he or she can work with you to manage your fibromyalgia symptoms once diagnosed. The key is education and early detection. This condition requires a lot of attention and improved lifestyle changes. Education, perseverance and a positive attitude are some of the best tools a person facing fibromyalgia can be equipped with every day.

#4. VICKI: You’re a mother of 5 children and living with fibromyalgia. How do you do it?

JAN: Being a mother can be difficult at times for any woman; however, when you’re living with fibromyalgia, it definitely can pose certain challenges. Fibromyalgia Awareness Day and Mother’s Day both fall on Sunday, May 12th this year. If you know a mom with fibromyalgia, show her your support by sending her a special e-card and thanking her for all she does. Visit http://www.Fibrocenter.com, a website provided by Pfizer, Inc., to send a special e-card to a mom with fibromyalgia.(website also mentioned earlier in this article)

VICKI: Thank you for you time jan, your very helpful answers, and great websites for our readers to visit!

I personally have a dear friend with fibromyalgia, and I’m going to send her an e-card at the link Jan provided above. I’ve known her for some time, and though she may have a fibromyalgia flair from time to time, I’m amazed at her wonderful positive attitude, and endless sense of humor. She has adapted to some lifestyle changes, and empowered herself with education about fibromyalgia, and really knows how to enjoy each moment!

I encourage all of you who read this article to send one of these e-cards to a friend or family member who has fibromyalgia. It will truly brighten their day!

“This initiative is supported by PFIZER, Inc.!”
“Tips for Living with Fibromyalgia:”

• “Get Active”: “A healthy and active lifestyle may help you decrease your fibromyalgia symptoms. Please see your healthcare provider before beginning any exercise program.”

• “Find Friends”: “Support groups exist all over the country, as well as online.”

•  “Chronicle your experience”: “Write down the things that may have brought about your pain and keep this list on your refrigerator as a reminder.”

• “Get some Zzzz”: “Stick to a sleep schedule. If you go to bed at the same time every night, your body will get used to falling asleep at that time. So choose a time and stay with it, even on weekends.”

“Chat with your Physician”: “Getting diagnosed with fibromyalgia can be a challenge in itself. Once your doctor has determined that you have the condition, speak to him or her about the best treatment options for you.”

Jan Chambers has also provided a website where you will be able to find even more information about fibromyalgia: http://www.fmcpaware.org

I inspire you to visit this website, keeping in mind that women and moms deal with fibromyalgia on a daily basis, and ongoing awareness is essential!

Many thanks for your support!

The Road to Great Skincare is Celadon Road

Unknown-3

“The Path to a Greener Life”, that’s the motto for Celadon Road, an exclusive brand of eco-friendly household and personal care items which markets it’s products through its network of Independent Consultants.

Celedon Road  is dedicated to promoting greener, healthier and more socially responsible living by offering their customers a complete line of high quality organic and natural finds. I had the pleasure of trying some of Celadon Road Skincare and was pleasantly surprised with the line. Celadon Road skincare is made using Certified Organic plant oils, botanicals and essential oils. Celdon Road also offers an extensive line of skincare products meeting each individual’s skincare needs.

I started my Celadon Road experience with their Exfoliating Grapefruit Scrub which is very gentle and non abrasive. It is a mildly fragrant  scrub which gently cleanses and exfoliates your skin leaving you feeling refreshed. Exfoliating Grapefruit Scrub is suitable for all skin types which makes it the perfect facial scrub.

0-7

Are you troubled by sensitive skin? If so, I suggest Celadon Road Clearly Lemon Moisturizer (photo). You will love the feel and aroma of this moisturizer as it calms and smooths the many irritations associated with sensitive skin. Clearly Lemon Moisturizer contains natural antioxidants along with Ayurvedic herbs formulated to calm sensitive skin.

If you like to use serums as much as I do, Pink Grapefruit and Vitamin C Serum is an exceptional one. This remarkable serum is very light,  and is perfect for oil-prone skin. All you need to do is spread a thin layer over your face and neck after cleansing and you will feel the pleasant effects of the serum almost immediately. The serum smells great too!

As I Browse through Celadon Road’s Catalogue, I am amazed at the selection of skincare products. You will find Cleansers, Moisturizers, Toners, Anti-Age Serums, Gel Masques, Men’s products, and so much more. The catalogue is definitely worth viewing. It is important to know that Celadon Road’s beauty line is made using Certified Organic plant oils, botanical and essential oils.

Remington’s Spring Hair Accessories are Fashionable and Fun!

In my Easter basket, I received a Remington floral headband which I  love.  It is comfortable and pretty!  A floral band with a simple  flower attached is a girly statement look. I match it with a simple, plain dress and floral, flat shoes. Sometimes I let the headband hold  all of my hair back for a clean look and sometimes I just let the  headband rest on my head with my everyday style for a boho look.  I  love that I can wear it all day and not get a headache like with other  headbands. It stays in place so I don’t have to take it out for gym  class.  I cannot wait for next Easter, I need more Remington Spring  Hair Trend Accessories to add to my Spring and Summer wardrobe. Remington Hair Accessories Collection is available at Target!

Hair Designer Kerry Warn used John Frieda Products to Create Signature lokks For The GREAT GATSBY

0-67

Los Angeles, CA, January, 2012Hair Designer Kerry Warn used John Freida products to create the signature looks for the cast and hundreds of extras for Baz Lurhmann’s highly anticipated big screen adaption of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby. The uniquely imaginative, Oscar nominated filmmaker (Moulin Rouge) will create his own distinctive visual interpretation of the classic story, bringing the period to life in a way that has never been seen before, in a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role.

Unknown-58

Working with Luhrmann, as well as Catherine Martin, the two-time Academy Award-winning production and costume designer (Moulin Rouge), Warn designed hairstyles for the film inspired by the looks of the Jazz Age but with a contemporary twist. “The ’20’s have been done so beautifully in so many films” says the hair designer, whose credits include such films as Nine, Australia, The Golden Compass and the forthcoming Grace of Monaco. “After discussions we decided to keep a modern twist, that we’d do our own interpretation of the ’20’s.”  This interpretation of Baz Luhrmann‘s was based in research and references from the period and direct descriptions from the novel but has incorporated a modern-day aesthetic.

Unknown-57

For the female cast, including Carey Mulligan, who stars as Daisy Buchanan, Warn updated the classic bob, which was the defining look of the era. Warn gave Mulligan’s fringe a softness, updating it from the maor familiar 1920’s Louise Brooks fringe. But for the party scene, Warn and his team of hairstylists were required to style up to 300 female extras. Many of whom had long hair which was then styled into finger waves, with the help of John Frieda Frizz-ease Curl Controller Corrective Styling Gel. “the girls could dance-and they were brilliant dancers-even do cartwheels, and their hair wasn’t going anywhere.”

One of the additional challenges Warn faced was desigining styless that would hold up i 3D. “With 3D you have to be careful about stray hairs”. What got him through the 3D experience? ” I was able to control the look with John Frieda Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Hairspray. It was a really good standby!”
