A patient’s story how Abbott’s MitraClip corrected her mitral valve regurgitation

Degenerative Mitral regurgitation (DMR) is caused when the leaflets of the mitral valve do not close properly, allowing blood to flow backward and leak into the left atrium of the heart. A leaky heart valve can increase the pressure on the heart and, over time, result in heart failure

Abbott’s MitraClip treats mitral regurgitation. As referred to above, this condition where the mitral valve of the heart does not close properly can result in blood leakage that can lead to stroke, heart attack, or even death.

Betty is a patient who overcame Degenerative Mitral Regurgitation with an Abbott Mitral Clip, procedure, and was kind enough to take the time to share the story about her experience with DMR. I know you’ll find it very inspiring!

My interview with Betty V:

VICKI: What were your symptoms and when did you first notice them?

BETTY: Three years ago, I began experiencing symptoms of a common, yet serious condition called degenerative mitral regurgitation. Going up and down stairs, I couldn’t breathe and would become lightheaded and terribly tired.

VICKI: What actually happened that made you talk to your doctor?

BETTY: I had to quit working in my yard and going for daily walks. My cardiologist told me to “live with it.” But I felt it wasn’t living, rather, I was existing. I kept thinking it would go away until I found myself lying on my steps completely out of breath. After that, I knew I needed to do something. So I found a new cardiologist who listened to me.

VICKI: That had to be quite distressing. It’s good that you sought out a new cardiologist who took the time to listen! What was your diagnosis?

BETTY: My new cardiologist found that my mitral valve was not working properly, and he told me in simple terms that my heart valve was “leaking.”

VICKI: What were the treatment options your doctor gave you?
BETTY: My new cardiologist recommended treatment with the MitraClip device since open heart surgery was not recommended for me.

VICKI: So what did you decide to do about it?

BETTY: After speaking with my cardiologist about what to expect, I decided to undergo the MitraClip procedure.

VICKI: How would you describe the procedure?
BETTY: As my doctor explained to me, the procedure was a minimally-invasive option in which the doctor would use a catheter to implant the device through a vein in my leg.

VICKI: How long after the procedure did you start to notice a difference in how you felt?

BETTY: When my cardiologist came in to visit me shortly after my procedure, I told him that I felt like a weight had been lifted off of my chest. I was pleased that, within 48 hours, I was back home, feeling good again.

VICKI: Betty …. That’s terrific! What do you like to do for fun and how did your disease impact your ability to do those things? Now, Are you able to do those things you enjoyed, once again since you’ve had the procedure?

BETTY: I still live independently, garden, play bridge regularly with my friends, and visit my children and grandchildren. It is safe to say that I am physically active. Before the procedure, I had to give some of these activities up. But now that I have had the procedure I have happily returned to these activities.

VICKI: That’s so great to hear, Betty. What would you recommend people do if they find themselves in a similar situation as yours?

BETTY: I would encourage others who have a problem with their heart valve to speak with their doctors about treatment options. If I hadn’t had this procedure, I’d probably be in a nursing home. That’s the difference. I’m doing much better, and I’m truly living my life.

Its just that Amazing!

When you have one product that can do a multitude of things, it can easily becomes one of those “I cant live without it” deals. That’s how I feel about my Amazing Cosmetics Perfection Sticks. The great thing about the Perfection Sticks is you don’t have to be a professional to use them and also they are portable so you can take all this with you.

Not only is Amazing Cosmetics Perfection Stick ideal for contouring, highlighting and covering but you can also use it for prepping the eyelids for eye shadow. It will help accentuate the colors, keep them from creasing and make them last longer. Use it as a highlighter around the brow bone to make eyes pop and define the eyebrow. I also, found that dabbing just a little bit on the top and bottom lips will keep your lipstick or lip gloss last longer as well.

I highly recommend the Perfection Sticks for anyone with oily/combination skin, & even if you have dry skin. The sticks are moisturizing and easy to apply so you wont feel like your pores are being clogged or heavy. I have used products for covering and I feel like I'm putting oil directly on my skin. Not with these though. Its like silk when it glides on your skin. Little by little they turn from sticks to your go to "magic wands".

Cleanse your hair with “Gold”

A shampoo & conditioner that does what they say! I had been using up shampoo & conditioner at home to not be wasteful. It really didn’t seem to be a problem until after I had some highlights put in my hair and spent a few days at the beach. The split end look arrived big time and it was definitely noticeable! I asked my “cosmetology” daughter what to do & she suggested Goldwell Dual Senses.

The first thing I noticed in using it was the wonderful light fragrance. It smelled a bit “fruity”, but not overwhelming; perfect! Then I noticed the texture of my hair was softer & it actually felt lighter. Now I was getting impressed. My hair in just a few short minutes smelled good and felt good. Wow! I couldn’t help but wonder if the disappointment was yet to come later. After my shower, I was anxious to get to my mirror to see how manageable my hair would be. First I noticed the ends actually looked better and when I ran a comb through, their was no tangles; that’s right, no tangles. The highlighted color looked great and showed no lightening or change in shade. So far, I thought this shampoo is perfect, but I didn’t want to make a final judgment until I had used these products a few times.

Sometimes I have to wash my hair more often than I should because after working outside in the yard I have to head to the shower. Two or three times the first week, I washed my hair using Goldwell Dual Senses and I got the same great results, so I am now a “user” of this fine product. It has made a difference in not only how my hair looks, but also how it feels.

DIY on the FLY™-Dip-Dyed Stationery

As the owner of my own greeting card company to say I am passionate about paper and people is an understatement! There is nothing more sentimental in this day and age of technology than that of a hand written note. I believe everyone needs a personal set of stationery and handmade stationery for mom will make her think of you each time she sends a note. This is a simple, fun project that the whole family can enjoy and it also makes a great gift for teachers or other important people in your life.

Step One:

Find some plain white, uncoated stationery, envelopes or gift tags from your local craft or paper store.

Step Two:

Using a plastic cup or Tupperware dish fill it with hot water and your desired color of Rit liquid dye. Let the solution cool before dipping your stationery or envelope.

Step Three:

Carefully dip the paper about an inch into the solution until you have your desired color. Don’t worry about creating a straight line. Perfection is in the imperfection. Each piece is unique and that’s the true beauty of this project!

Step Four:

Lastly, you will want to hang your paper to dry before you package it together and embellish it with a beautiful decorative ribbon and a handwritten gift note.

The Villages goes Global

I bet your wondering about that competion that was held at TSPA and Salon Jaylee for Global Beauty Masters? Who got chosen, who’s going? Well, I am happy to announce that the teams from TSPA and Salon Jaylee will be participating in the qualifying rounds at Premiere Orlando on Saturday May 30th!

Before I introduce you to the teams let me recap a little on what Global Beauty Masters is. It is a televised competition held every year where teams from all over the world compete to see who will win the title. From this round at Premiere, the teams who are chosen will go on to compete in Las Vegas. This is a full body competition meaning that more attention to detail and creativity the better. As you can see from the teams (photos below) creativity and detail was on point. (These photos are the editorial shots they submitted. A new theme will be chosen by the teams for Premiere)
