Krigler Sierra Vista 2142 & a Holiday Bottle

Hi all, it’s Lisa.  I was recently packing for a short trip to a wedding in FL and going through my stash of perfume samples to take along. One for me, one for my aunt and one for my mom. I was about to panic because my sample of  Krigler Sierra Vista was missing.  Maybe mom got to it first?

Sierra Vista 2142 fragrance

Well, I soon found it in my jewelry armoire . I remember putting it there to hide it from my niece Rachel, one of the other nieces, not the bride-to-be. I definitely have had my share of product sample thieves in my home through out my many years in the beauty biz! Happily and carefully (this is very expensive, even a small sample is a precious commodity), I tucked it into my carry on. So, I head out to Florida with a little bit of Arizona! This Krigler Sierra Vista 2142 perfume  pays homage to the majestic landscape of Arizona. It’s a warm and wild fragrance. It’s got a dry and woody base, blending with top notes of Californian Lavandin and Italian Bergamot with a heart of French Jasmine, Bulgarian Rose, and Cedar Wood. The base is of Dry Amber (one of my favorites), Hawaiian Sandalwood, and Brazilian Tonka Bean. The Eau de Parfum: 3.4fl.oz. is $330 and the 1.7fl.oz. is $230.

I stopped to browse Krigler.com while on the plane and found a  holiday bottle of Chateau Krigler 12. That one is $785, $465 for a refill.  Chateau Krigler 12 is my all time favorite. I dreamt about it all the way to FL!

REVLON will have your hair Stylin’ this Holiday Season

unnamed

As soon as I received the new Revlon Pro Collection One-Step Hair Dryer and Styler, my 26-year-old daughter told me that it was exactly what she needed for her hair. Needless to say she is using it now, she loves it and I guess I have to get my own.

IMG_1672

The Revlon Pro Collection One-Step Hair Dryer and Styler by Helen of Troy is a hair tool that is a blow dryer/paddle brush all in one unit. The best part about it is that now, you will have a hand free so you can quickly dry and style your hair with one hand. As you can see from my daughters results (shown above) what started out as wavy wet hair, has turned into sleek, straight and soon to be frizz-free hair. She also feels that she doesn’t need to use a flat-iron after blow drying and if she does, it is only for touch-ups. She says this styler is a huge time saver and its lightweight design makes styling comfortable.

The Revlon Pro Collection One-Step Hair Dryer and Styler was designed to reduce heat exposure and minimize heat damage to your hair and has some remarkable features; you will notice that the Paddle Brush design is made with flexible material to contour to the head and smooth out hair and the Massaging Ball Tips help detangle hair, while being gentle to your scalp.

The Revlon Pro Collection One-Step Hair Dryer and Styler also has IONIC TECHNOLOGY®. Ionic Technology is a process where negative ions neutralize positive ions in the air. This process seals the hair cuticle which reduces frizz leaving your hair shiny. What’s not to love about this amazing hair tool. My daughter is very fussy when it comes to hair appliances and she is really enjoying this one. You can purchase your own at large drugstores nationwide such as Walmart.

Kendall Jenner’s Top Knot is so easy to achieve with KMS California

unnamed-1

Kendall Jenner rocked a chic top knot with an edgy flair of side swept bangs on the red carpet of the American Music Awards. Celebrity hairstylist, Etienne Ortega, created this sleek top knot look with the help of KMS California products. “My inspiration for Kendall’s look was a funky modern top knot with a wispy bang, that goes perfect with her high neck dress!” Here’s the scoop from Ortega on how to get Kendall’s red carpet look:

Step 1: Ortega used KMS California ADD VOLUME styling foam ($17.50) while the hair was damp and roughly blow dried her hair.

Step 2: Ortega used the KMS California HAIR PLAY messing cream ($20), putting a quarter size amount in his palms and worked it all throughout the hair to start creating a build up of texture.

Step 3: Then Ortega put her hair up into a pony, followed by twisting the hair into a fun top knot.

Step 4: To finish the look he used the KMS California HAIR PLAY playable texture ($20) to make her bangs textured, piecey and ready to hit the red carpet.

You only need an eyeliner for dramatic eyes

unnamed-9

A message from Linda Eisner from Pencil Me In Cosmetics:

No time in the morning to wear makeup? If there is anything you can do to your face that doesn’t take too much time but makes a huge impact on your appearance is to play up your eyes.

Make sure you have a nice tip on your eyeliner but not overly sharp where when you press the point may fall apart or drag your eye lids. Pencil Me In Cosmetics eyeliner comes with a built-in sharpener.
Make sure the pencil tip is at the right temperature. Oftentimes eyeliner pencils can be too cold to first apply. You can cup the eyeliner point in the palm of your hands to get it warmer and soften or even use your blow dryer real quick and at an arms length distance to not destroy the eyeliner but to warm it. Cold eyeliner is hard to apply. When eyeliner is the perfect temperate it goes on perfectly smooth.
A cat eye shown here doesn’t take a long time to do but makes a huge impact. Pencil Me In Cosmetics has a white eyeliner color called Snow. You don’t have to use just black or white for this look. Try a mix of a dark and light shade. We offer 30 various eyeliner shades. Experiment with our Amethyst dark purple and Orchid Sparks, a lighter purple.
Experiment with color. I can’t stress enough that we should not be afraid of colorful eyeliners. The day you wear a different colored eyeliner, I bet you someone will notice and for all the right reasons.

All that shimmers is Pixie Blush from Jennifer Bradley

header-logo-750-1

Jennifer Bradley has a shimmery highlighter in her line of cosmetics that is simply irresistible. If you love pink and shimmery, you will love Pink Champagne. This is a highlighter/blush that will brighten and add a touch of sparkle to your makeup. It’s very delicate and will only need a light touch to highlight your cheekbones and eyebrows.  I add a touch just over my blush for a brightening effect. I have also applied Pink Champagne under my eyebrow to highlight my eyes. You can use it anywhere you want a shimmery look. I love the effect and you will too.

Seven Prints Every Fashion Lover Needs In the Home

If you’re a fashion lover, then you know all about mixing and matching fabrics and prints in your wardrobe. At Modernize, we think that when you’re decorating your home, you should let your love for the fashion world shine, too. Here are seven essential prints every fashion lover should include in his or her home (although maybe not all in the same place).

Geometric

Nothing says fashion like a big, bold geometric print. Bonus points for black and white prints, because we all know that monochrome style isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Geometrics work best on throw blankets and accent cushions, as a bold bedding choice, or even on shower curtains.

unnamed-6

Herringbone

For classic, Old World fashion charm, a herringbone pattern does wonders to transform a space. Choose from rugs, blankets, curtains; you name it, it works as herringbone. You can thank Benedict Cumberbatch and the tweed filled world of Sherlock Holmes for bringing this English style back onto our fashion radar.

unnamed-7

Animal (faux, of course)

If ever there was a print that was a must have for fashionistas, animal would be it. Zebra, leopard, tiger, and even cow (yes, I said cow) prints are staples on the runway year after year. Be brave and add one or two animal print pieces to your home furnishings and fabric accessories. Just remember not to take it overboard!

unnamed-8

Floral

Floral prints don’t have to be dowdy and old-fashioned. There are plenty of florals that are suitable for both vintage lovers and modern fashion mavens, so take your pick and decorate your bedroom and even your living room with a few extra flowers. If you want to be especially avant garde with your style, choose soft, Eastern inspired florals with pinks and blues; it’s a hot trend coming up next spring.

unnamed-9

Stripes

Fortunately for everyone, stripes are never going out of style. How you wear them changes from year to year, of course, and the same can be said for home decor. Wide stripes and chevrons have had their time in the sun, so we have a feeling that thinner stripes are coming back soon. Whichever you prefer, be bold and use stripes as accents throughout your home.

unnamed-10

Houndstooth

For those of us whose fashion icons include the likes of Gwen Stefani, houndstooth is already a firm favorite. Although technically a geometric print, this variety gets its own category because of its brazen uniqueness and versatility. Anyone can rock houndstooth if they’re brave enough, so don’t be afraid to reupholster that oversized armchair with a print most of your other friends probably don’t use in their own homes.

unnamed-11

Plaid

At first glance, plaid may seem like a bit of a boring print, but I promise it’s more than wool blankets and ski chalet design. From Scottish tartan to bright, multicolored crosshatches, the modern plaid can match any home’s style. Simply choose your color scheme and add a few pops of plaid to your pillows, throws, and even upholstery.

Want Glowing Skin? 5 Easy Steps That Start With Your Gut

unnamed-15

It’s easy to overlook our gut as the source of skin troubles. But if the well-being of our internal organs and energy levels are determined by what we put in our mouths, why shouldn’t the same be true for our skin? Dr. Nicholas Sieveking is a Nashville, TN Stanford-trained, board certified plastic surgeon who also holds a board certification with advanced fellowship training in Anti-Aging and Functional medicine. The Clinic of Ageless Solutions is the most comprehensive anti-aging clinic available to treat almost every aspect of the aging process and health from the inside out.

Dr. Sieveking illustrates what an unhealthy gut can do to your skin:
• It disrupts the flora in the skin as it creates inflammation, affecting the integrity and protective function of the skin. This can lead to a drop in the microbial power of the skin to fight infection and inflammation. Research shows that small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), a condition involving inappropriate growth of bacteria in the small intestine, is ten times more prevalent in people with acne rosacea, and that a correction of gut flora led to marked clinical improvement in their skin conditions.
• Altered gut flora can activate the release of substance P — a neuropeptide produced in the gut, brain and skin that plays a major role in inflammatory skin conditions like eczema.
• An unhealthy gut can result in maldigestion and the malabsorption of proteins, fats, carbs and vitamins. SIBO can lead to nutritional deficiencies including vitamin B12, as well as vitamins A, D, E and K (fat-soluble vitamins) which are all critical for optimal skin health and overall good health.
• An imbalance of stomach acid can result in the overgrowth of “bad” bacteria in the colon, which can lead to acne. (This was discovered over a century ago!)
• 14% of patients with ulcerative colitis and 24% of patients with Crohn’s disease (both diseases that affects the lining of the digestive tract) have skin manifestations.

Correcting your gut flora and establishing a healthy glow — inside and out — doesn’t need to be complicated. Here are five easy steps you can take to start the healing process:
1. Stop feeding the bad guys.
The bad flora in your gut has a field day with sugar, dairy and processed grains. Starve the little critters by reducing your intake of these foods — your skin will thank you.
2. Start taking a probiotic.
Oral probiotics have been shown to improve skin conditions by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, as well as strengthening the intestinal barrier. In one study, 80% of participants who received a probiotic experienced improvement in their acne. Here are 10 probiotic foods to add to your diet.
3. Eat prebiotic- and fiber-rich foods.
Prebiotics provide food for probiotics and can be just as important as probiotics in maintaining healthy skin and gut. Asparagus, beetroot, pumpkin, flaxseeds and garlic are wonderfully rich prebiotic foods. Fiber helps the process by sweeping away toxins and excess hormones which can wreak havoc on the skin.
4. Eat fermented foods.
Fermented foods can be a wonderful way of introducing good gut flora in a natural way. They also assist with improving digestion and stopping persistent sugar cravings.
5. Up your digestive ability.
Promoting the body’s hydrochloric acid production is critical to improving its ability to break down and absorb food. Splash apple cider vinegar onto your salads and increasing your consumption of bitter foods such as rocket, dandelion, lemon and radicchio will increase your digestive power.
Remember that what you put on and in your body are both important! Get your gut in order and your skin will follow.
