Microblading The 6 Most Asked About Questions

June, 2018 (New York, NY) – Now, there are more ways than ever to get big bold brows with a gorgeous arch, and microblading is becoming one of the most popular!   It’s a semi-permanent procedure (similar to tattooing) that uses a special tool to create hair-like strokes on the brow line that give the appearance of thicker fuller brows. Kait Paige, microblading expert, at Boom Boom Brow Bar (30 Greenwich Avenue), outlines the 6 most asked about questions:

  1. Who should get microblading?

Those who want to redefine their eyebrows by filling in gaps, finessing the length, width, density and color, and it’s great for sculpting a beautiful arch.  It looks completely natural.

  1. What is microblading?

A temporary pencil is first used to map out the shape of each brow.  Then, a topical numbing cream is applied and a special microblading pen is used to draw on semi-permanent individual fine strokes of color on the skin that look like natural hair.

  1. Does it hurt?

The pain can be similar to waxing, threading or plucking, but the numbing cream reduces discomfort.

  1. How long does it take?

Approximately 1.5 to 2 hours for the first service.

What is the maintenance?

The area must heal, peel and fade which takes up to 10 days; touch up is done 6 weeks later and takes about 1hr and 15 min. 10 days is the time it takes to heal.  Apply oil Vitamin E to area to promote healing and retain pigment; No makeup, tinting of lashes/brows, sun, soap, sauna, steam, Jacuzzi, swimming for 7-10 days; Once healed, wear sunblock to protect color; Do not use products that contain AHA’s, Vitamin A, Retinol, glycolic or lactic acids – pigment will fade.

  1. How long does it last?

1 year – excessive sun exposure, exfoliants, oily skin and smoking tend to cause fadage earlier.

Appointments scheduled @ 516-972-7406, follow on Instagram @kaitpaigebeauty. Cost $500, includes one time touch up scheduled 2 weeks after initial service (for maximum results).

Malynda Vigliotti (aka Boom Boom) is obsessed with brows – 350K + served at Boom Boom Brow Bar in NYC!! It’s fast, convenient, affordable and FUN!! Just walk-in! Happy Hour every Monday – Friday.  Check out what’s cooking on Instagram: @BoomBoomBrowBar; Facebook: @BoomBoomBrowBar and Twitter: @BoomBoomBrowBar.

Arbonne hasn’t failed me yet

Summer has arrived and its time to make sure my skincare regime stays consistent. I want my skin to be hydrated and soft. Pool water and sun can be brutal on you skin and Arbonne has not failed me yet. Arbonne’s skincare line, RE9 Advanced Prepwork is exquisite. I love the fact that both my daughter and I can use it as its formulated for all ages.

I start my day with Arbonne RE9 Advanced Prepwork Cleansing Polish. This cleansing polish is so soft and silky, you barely feel the exfoliants, that how smooth it is. I recommend this product to many of my friends because it has no fragrance. This is a big issue with people in my pier group. If it has a fragrance they run from it.   RE9 Advanced Prepwork Cleansing Polish is formulated with the exfoliants lingonberry and apricot.  This cleansing polish gently buffs away dull and dead skin cells, makeup and excess oil.  After use, your skin will feel fresh, look brighter and feel softer. It is so gentle that you can use it morning and night.

Arbonne RE9 Advanced Prepwork Cleansing Polish is gluten free, and is allergy and dermatologist tested.

It’s a Glam Thin gloves that “Part of the proceeds from Prepwork goes to supporting the Arbonne Charitable Foundation®’s mission to empower teens.”

After using the cleansing polish you really need a great sunscreen and protect your precious skin. Arbonne’s RE9 Advanced Prepwork Soft Focus Veil Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen offers some great attributes.

A couple of them, at least for me, is that it acts as a moisturizer and lightly tinted foundation. It is lightweight so you won’t have that heavy greasy feeling on your skin especially if you are outdoors and sweating.  RE9 Advanced Prepwork Soft Focus Veil Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen creates a photo-filtered, soft focus effect to blur the look of pores and baby lines. Soft Focus Veil Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen contains 100% mineral-based sunscreen and is Vegan.  I use it under my makeup and it works beautifully.

RE9 Advanced Prepwork Soft Focus Veil Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen is formulated with vitamins C and E, antioxidants, omegas and polyonutrients.  It is also gluten free, and is allergy and dermatologist tested.

Arbonne carries an extensive line of skincare ranging from various lines of skincare, makeup, Bath & Body, Nutritional items and Hair Care.  The summer is just starting, grab your Arbonne today, it won’t fail you.

What To Wear On a Girls’ Night Out

Getting together with friends to go out for the evening is something that everyone should do from time to time. It doesn’t have to be a weekly occurrence – once a month, or even fewer times a year, is enough to have a good time and enjoy one another’s company. Taking a break from the norm and trying something different is good for us, as it being with people we like. Yet it can be difficult to know what to wear, and choosing the right outfit can take a long time (perhaps even weeks if you want to start really early). Here are some tips on what to wear on a girls’ night out that will leave you feeling comfortable and looking style; the perfect combination.

Dark Jeans

Jeans are one of the most versatile pieces of clothing around, and no matter whether you have booked tickets for a show at ticketsales.com or you are going out to a club, or you’re planning on drinks and a meal (or all of the above), jeans will suit. The style of the jeans (bootcut, skinny, even flared) is less important than the color. Choose dark jeans (either dark blue or black) because they look much smarter than faded ones, and try to avoid anything with rips or holes in them. This might be fashionable, but they don’t look elegant.

Pay Attention To Your Top

If your jeans (or pants, or perhaps even a skirt) are plain in color, then you can really go to town on your top and wear something bright and colorful. You can choose all kinds of patterns too and really anything that you like the look of because it’s not going to clash with your bottom half. Some colors suit people better than others, and if you already know what works for you then you know where to start looking. If you’re not sure what your best color is then you can try on a few different shades and even ask the sales clerk in the store what looks better if you can’t decide.

Remember not to tuck your top into your bottoms as it isn’t always the most flattering look. If you want something to break up the length of your top then you can add a belt, but it’s not necessary and whatever you are wearing will look just fine without it.

Accessorize

Adding jewelry and accessories to your look will make even the plainest of outfits look glamorous. The key is not to overdo things when it comes to the extras, otherwise it will look unbalanced, and you could even feel over-dressed for the occasion. If you’re not sure how much to wear, start with a little and bring some items with you that you can add later when you have gauged the kind of evening that has been planned.

Boots

Boots are the ideal footwear to wear on a night out. Not only are they more comfortable than heels, they look modern and you can find them in any style to suit. Plus they work perfectly with jeans, bringing the whole look together.

HOW TO BEAT SWIMSUIT SEASON ANXIETY

Expert Neuropsychologist —Gives 7 Hacks for Body and Mind

Since January we’ve been bombarded with ads urging us to slim down and “get your body in shape by summer.” “Lose weight by Memorial Day.” While some women manage to meet their weight loss goals in time to feel confident in their swimsuit, the majority of us don’t. While we can disguise unwanted pounds in heavy layers during winter, in summer there’s nowhere to hide when you’re invited to that pool side BBQ. Why should we have to hide? We turned to Dr. Sanam Hafeez, New York City based neuropsychologist and Teaching Faculty Member at the prestigious Columbia University Teacher’s College to give us some tips on how to boost body image despite the number on the scale.

  1. Recognize (and Stop) all the fat talk.

“Women are notorious for commiserating when it comes to body image,” says Dr. Hafeez. If a woman says, ‘I’m so fat,’ the other woman might feel like she has to say ‘no, I’m the fat one.’ ‘Have you seen my thighs?’ Then there’s this back and forth over whose body is worse to elevate the other person. “Even women who don’t feel negatively about their bodies will engage in this behavior and eventually, it can make them feel worse,” says Dr. Hafeez. Dr. Hafeez suggests taking the lead in offering compliments to friends and steering the conversation away from negative self-talk which serves no one.

  1. Don’t compare yourself to the ‘Insta thin.’

Comparing your “booty” or thighs to the countless fitness influencers on Instagram will do nothing to bolster your self-image. Instead, follow and like beautiful photos of healthy foods, plated and perfect. “You want to encourage well-being not get yourself down by comparing yourself to women who work out with trainers, are significantly younger and whose livelihood it is to be a swimsuit model. Comparison leads to discouragement, warns Hafeez.”

  1. Focus on improvement.

When it comes to your body, focusing on what you think is a problem area is just going to make you feel worse. Once you’ve acknowledged what you want to work on, focus on ways to improve and celebrate what you’ve accomplished so far. “If you haven’t reached your fitness goal understand it is a work in progress. Stick with it. Working out will also raise your endorphins which help to induce feelings of pleasure and reduce anxiety naturally,” says Dr. Hafeez.

  1. Be kind to yourself and commit not to a size, but to a lifestyle.

Doing something kind for your body serves as positive reinforcement. “You want to stay focused on the bigger picture. It’s about a healthy lifestyle not looking like a swimsuit model,” says Dr. Hafeez. Did you try new healthy recipes, opted out of dessert, drank water instead of coffee or diet sodas? Then praise yourself and treat yourself to a massage, a nice long uninterrupted shower with music, a pedicure, a facial or a delicious smelling body lotion.

“By taking some time for you, and doing something that makes you feel physically great, it’ll help you’ll feel well emotionally,” Dr. Hafeez explains.

  1. Undo the negative programming about your body.

Undoing negative thoughts about our bodies doesn’t happen overnight. Here are a few questions to consider when feeling down or anxious about your body.

How would it feel to savor the sensation of warm sun on my skin?

How would my body feel immersed in water on a stiflingly hot day?

How might swimming help me relax or exercise more?

What am I willing to do to reach my goal weight?

What 3 things can I appreciate about my body right now?

“It may also help to remind yourself that most people at the beach or pool are feeling sensitive about their bodies, too. They may not show it, but that doesn’t mean they are totally secure, happy and confident with their body.”

  1. Focus on the fun!

The majority of us live in climates where the summer is over quickly. Do you really want to spend the summer complaining about your body or, would you rather have fun? Think about how relaxing it will be to enjoy that good book with the sound of the waves in the background, napping under the umbrella, warmer temperatures, backyard get-togethers and night swimming in the pool. “You can spend your summer obsessing overcellulite or, you can enjoy time with your kids eating homemade fruit pops. Always choose fun,” suggests Dr. Hafeez.

  1. Finally, remind yourself why you are here?

You are so much more than your body. What are you doing with your life, besides obsessing about your body? Are you a parent who is raising confident kids, a student advancing your education, a loyal friend, pet owner, or a self-employed trailblazer? Focus on all you do, and want to do, with your mind and body. You’ll quickly realize you have more to offer the world than a 24-inch waist.

Nubian Heritage Coconut & Papaya Polishing and Renewing Hand Cream

Nubian Heritage Coconut & Papaya Polishing and Renewing Hand Cream

Coconut & Papaya Liquid Hand Soap and Hand Cream, for all skin types, combination skin, dry skin, oily skin.

The Nubian Heritage brand is a favorite here at It’s a Glam Thing. We have posted about products from the brand a couple of times past.  Here is a reminder of the last posting that we did. It was an Earth Day posting.

Today is Earth Day, Celebrate the Day with Nubian Heritage

Today we wanted to take the time to mention the Coconut & Papaya Polishing and Renewing Liquid Hand Soap and the Coconut & Papaya Polishing and Renewing Hand Cream.

The hand cream is absolutely lovely. The smell can’t be beat for this time of the year. The formula includes Vanilla Extract, Coconut Oil, Shea Butter and Papaya Extract.  There is no need for perfume with this hand cream, especially if you smooth it onto your elbows and knees  too. That is, if you are not lucky enough to have the body lotion and the rest of the Coconut & Papaya collection of products.

The Hand Cream nicely compliments the Coconut & Papaya Polishing and Renewing Liquid Hand Soap.  The Hand Soap also is formulated with the Papaya fruit extract, coconut oil and vanilla extract plus, of course, Shea Butter.

There are other quality ingredients in both products and all ingredients are ethically traded. The ingredients are balanced to exfoliate, nourish and renew your skin. The products are cruelty free. What you won’t find in these formulations are parabens, sulfates, phthalates, paraffin, mineral oil, petroleum, DEA synthetic fragrances or artificial coloring.

You can purchase Nubian Heritage products at your shopping outlet of choice including The Vitamin Shoppe, Amazon and NubianHeritage.com . These are very price friendly for such quality products.

Wardrobe Overhaul: How to Give Yourself a Much-Needed Style Update

organized closet

Fashion comes and goes, meaning we can buy more than ever and have styles from every era in our closet. If we aren’t making the most of what we own, however, and have things that are gathering dust and taking up space, then the only thing that you are doing is crowding out the items that you love, and not giving yourself the chance to be truly creative with your outfits or what you own. By giving yourself a wardrobe overhaul, you can become the stylish fashionista you have always wanted to be, but on your own terms.

Sort Through Everything You Own

Budget-friendly clothing means we can have massive wardrobes. Even a moderate wardrobe can be filled with things we don’t often wear or don’t care about. Some pieces might be too worn-out to wear; others might not even fit you. There is no reason to keep these pieces in your wardrobe. Instead, go through everything that you own and sort through it. There should be three piles, pieces that you like or often wear, pieces that are in good condition but you don’t want, and pieces that need to be discarded. Put everything you love and often wear back into your wardrobe, sell or donate the pile of clothes that are in good condition, and recycle the rest.

Tips on Designing a DIY Wardrobe Space

The better you can see your clothes and the better they are displayed, the better you will be able to value what you own and come up with creative and incredibly stylish outfits. If you don’t have the actual wardrobe space, go minimal. Pick up a clothing rail or make your own and make your clothes the work of art they deserve to be. Transform your closet space into a beautiful creation that you love to showcase to your friends and family. The better the space, the more fun you can have when getting dressed.

Budget Tips to Help You Curate the Ultimate Style on a Budget

Clearing out your wardrobe is a great first step, but chances are you will want to shop for more items as the years go on. Not only is it fun, but it also helps your wardrobe stay refreshed and inviting! The only issue is that with as many fast fashion brands as there are, it can be all too easy to want to choose the cheaper fashion pieces. The problem with doing this is that these items are very delicate, meaning they won’t last and can start to look crumpled after just a few wears. That is why opting to shop at a department store that has price match guarantee and financing options can be a lifesaver to your closet. Opt for the better-made garments, and enjoy them for as long as you want to, not for as long as they look good.

Every so often a wardrobe overhaul is needed, to ensure that you only keep the best and most versatile pieces in your home. Improve the design of the space itself, and improve the garments you add to it, and you can cultivate your own unique look that has a timeless appeal.

NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING GEEKY: An Interview With Jared Goetz

When he was only 21 years old, Jared Goetz was making millions of dollars putting on events around the globe. Now years later, Jared has been running and helping multiple companies and celebrities generate millions of dollars in revenue for themselves through e-commerce.

It’s A Glam Thing sat down with Jared while he was out here in Hollywood (visiting from his home base of Miami, Florida), to talk about his work, style, favorite Instagram filters and whether being “geeky” is a good or bad thing!

NICK NORTHSTAR: How would you describe your own personal style?

JARED GOETZ: Sleek, with a subtle shock factor. I live in South Florida so a t-shirt and jeans will get me through most days. I like designer t-shirts in neutral colors and a dark pair of jeans that are on the slim side. I always try to add one element to my outfit that is rare, unique or just straight up cool. I typically do this with either a watch, blazer or a pair of sneakers.

NN: You are based in Florida… what about the city do you love most? Why did you move there? Would you ever move here to Hollywood?

JG: I love the weather, which leads to a lot of golf time. I moved here because I spent a lot of time here growing up visiting family, so I always had a place in my heart for South Florida.

NN: Entrepreneurs, especially those in the “tech space” are perceived (unfairly) to look “geeky” in a sense. What are your thoughts on this statement?

JG: Geeky is a bad thing? I think it’s cool! Look, most of those in tech are not the most fashion-forward individuals, but these days you can pull off casual looks way more than you used to be able to – I think we have the tech community to thank for that.

NN: Steve Jobs had his go-to turtleneck outfit… Do you have a “go-to” outfit?

JG: Yes, typically I go with a black v-neck t-shirt and dark jeans. As I said, I’m all about looking chic, but I’m also in tech, so I don’t want to go too crazy.

NN: You work with and have helped develop some of the top Shopify storefronts online. Your own is the second fastest growing one next to Kylie Jenners. What type of storefronts (product wise) in your opinion are more likely to succeed in the online space?

JG: The trick to selling online for me is flexibility, and I try to pass that on to my students. I am trying to move a lot of product, and nothing sells better than what’s trending. Because I sell items that are trending, you have to be flexible regarding a product. Once the trend is over, you should already be riding the next wave. This is why I typically recommend stores that are themed in a general way, so the owner can shift between multiple product industries.

NN: Your Instagram account has a huge following as well… What is your favorite Instagram filter? Or #NoFilter?

JG: It depends on the lighting. I usually don’t even use filters because the Florida weather is typically good enough on its own! I’m much more concerned about the content of my posts than getting them to look perfect.

NN: What is your advice to anyone wanting to get into the digital marketing industry?

JG: Start today. That’s really my advice to anybody starting anything, just get going. Pick up a book on the industry, follow influential people and start experimenting on your own. The worst thing you can do is continue to think about how to get into something – just get into it!

NN: How can people learn more and take one of your courses you now offer?

JG: They can visit my website, jaredgoetz.com, or check out the eCom Hacks Academy website, ecomhacksacademy.com.

NN: And finally, out of curiosity, who have been your favorite celebrity or notable individuals to work with so far (that you are allowed to name)?

JG: So many good ones, but one of the coolest people that I’ve met and worked with has been Mark Cuban and Kris Singh.

Tips For Looking Glam While Working Out or Playing Sports

We all know that a big component of looking our best is getting enough exercise. It can improve circulation to give your skin a better texture and a healthy glow, give you better muscle tone, help control your weight, and reduce stress. With all of these benefits, it is definitely worth sticking to a regular exercise regimen or taking up a sport as a hobby. However, if you are someone who likes to look great whenever people might see you, it can be a bit off-putting thinking about looking all hot, red and sweaty in front of other gym-goers or your sports teammates and competitors.

Of course, most people don’t really care what other people look like when they are working out, but it does help you get in the zone and perform at your best if you feel confident, comfortable, and relaxed, and for many of us, this comes with knowing we still look like our usual glamorous selves, no matter what the activity or how tough it is!

Here are some tips for looking good during exercise, and making sure you don’t end up with any negative effects on your beauty from doing sport:

  • Find A Practical Hairstyle You Love

If you have short hair, then you are probably going to need to get used to going out with less product in it when you train because this will mix with sweat and make a messy, damp slime that will look and feel horrible. Keep wax, gel, and other fixing products to a minimum and try and find a way to love your hair in a more natural state. You can consider styles using a band to keep hair off your face and add some color and interest to your look, or just clip back the front of your hair to create a cute, sporty look.

With longer hair, you are going to need to find a go-to style for exercise that keeps hair off your face, out of your eyes, and preferably off your neck. There is no law that says you can’t work out with your hair down, but if you are going at an intensity that is going to make you sweat, it will soon look damp, dirty, and messy, and you will probably find you feel a lot cooler and more comfortable with your hair up. Try some styles using high ponytails, braids, bunches, and buns to find something you like the look of, but which is also able to look the same at the end of your workout as it did when you first styled it!

  • Consider Keeping Nails Shorter

If you usually keep your nails long or have long acrylic or gel extensions, you may find that going for a shorter style may help you feel more comfortable during sport and exercise and also give you fewer maintenance headaches. A short, squared off style in a bold color, or a classic French manicure, can keep your nails looking glamorous while also making it easier to avoid breakage and chips when you are playing sport, lifting weights, or doing aerobic exercises like dancing or kickboxing.

  • Try Barer Make-Up Looks

You can wear some make-up while you are sweating but consider its staying power and how it will look once you are sweating and flushed from your activity. Waterproof makeup is essential if you are planning to wear anything on your eyes, but there are now some great waterproof mascaras and eyeliners that can hold up no matter how much you sweat. Some can even survive watersports! As a base, go for a tinted moisturizer rather than a normal foundation. This will allow your skin to breathe and give you a more even complexion but won’t hide the natural healthy glow you get from working out or look strange on your skin if you tend to go a bit red when you are exercising.

For your lips, consider a tinted lip balm, which will nourish your lips as well as giving you a more glamorous look. This can be especially important if you are exercising outdoors, where the sun and wind can cause lips to dry out and chap.

  • Treat Yourself To Some Stylish New Sports Gear

Once you have found hair, nails and makeup looks that keep you feeling fresh and looking glam, you need to also think about your clothes. Having the opportunity to wear fashionable workout or sports clothes you love can be a big motivator when it comes to working out, and it can be a lot more fun getting ready to hit the gym or go for a run if you get to put on something you like the style of rather than grungy old track pants and baggy shirts!

What you should buy depends very much on the type of sport you do, but there are cute outfits for women on the market for everything, whether you are doing boxing, surfing, volleyball or tennis, plus an almost endless amount of choice when it comes to clothing for dance, aerobics, and general fitness. What you do need to choose carefully, however, is your sports bra, and your shoes. A good sports bra is essential, but what you may not know is that there are bras designed for different levels of intensity, so one made for yoga will not be suitable for running.

Shoes are also an area where you need to match your purchases to what you are doing rather than just buying generic sneakers you like the style of. Look for the best in running shoes, indoor soccer shoes, tennis shoes, basketball shoes, or whatever other specialist shoe designs are appropriate for the workouts you have planned. Find out more here.

It takes hardly any effort to design yourself an exercise look that will keep you feeling confident and which can withstand even the most hardcore exercise, so why not start thinking about how you can look glam at the gym today!
