If you are on top of all the latest trends, then you can probably guess what is to come for hairstyles in 2022. We have seen hairstyles change dramatically over the years, from short, sharp bobs, platinum curls, to long waves with side partings and bouncy flicks and waves. More people can enter their local salon now, with COVID-19 restrictions starting to ease around the world, which means a lot of people will be seeking change, especially after being restricted for so long.

A new, drastic haircut is a great way to feel good about yourself, boost your confidence, and scratch the itch for the change you crave. Hairstyles are also a great way to express yourself and evolve your personal style. Many of the trends of 2022 are similar to those in 2021, kind of like sticking to the comfort of what we know. When you think about it, the pandemic has brought about a lot of chaos and uncertainty, so while we can, we try to control as much as possible. The new hairstyle trends may also seem familiar to you, as they are not brand new. Some have been brought back from a few decades ago.

With the fashion industry exploding with 90’s inspired looks, you can expect the hair industry to go in the same direction. From fluffy layers to soft bangs, the best of the ’90s is back. So if you are ready for a change, are looking for inspiration, or just want to get ahead of the curve, here are some of the hairstyle trends that you can expect in 2022.

#1 Layers

The fluffy layers that were popular in the ’90s have made their way back, especially among Gen Z, and are starting to creep around celebrities too, such as Adele, who recently showed off her blonde locks after a gorgeous blow-dry. Layers are great for anyone, with any length of hair, but do look much more effective on longer, thicker hair to help give it some volume and bounce. Layers of all types appear to have made a comeback, including short layers to create natural textures, choppy bends, and a noticeable change that appears effortless, as the hair naturally moves and flicks around with multiple layers and lengths.

#2 Classic bob

Short bobs are starting to appear among many celebrities, for example, Selena Gomez. With and without bangs, this classic look is predicted to make a big statement in 2022. Bobs are a great way to frame your face, provide an instant facelift, and your hair will look a lot thicker. You can never get bored with a bob, as there are just so many ways you can style it. You can keep the heat off your hair for a while and rock the natural look, allowing your natural waves and texture to take center stage, or you can straighten and curl it. All styles look gorgeous with the bob, and it means that you can keep up with the trend while personalizing it to your own taste. You can also go for a shorter bob or a longer bob based on your personal preferences.

#3 Bottleneck bangs

For some, the classic or full bangs can be too blocky and full-on. There is a technique going around, called bottleneck bangs, which are a very soft version of the classic bangs, which take inspiration from the shape of the neck of a bottle. They start short in the middle and then curve around the eyes. They can be adjusted to suit a person’s face, and either be used to draw attention to the eyes and lips, or perhaps create a slimming look, or even strengthen the jaw bone. They go great with natural curls, and also keep the face framed with a high ponytail.

#4 Big curls

Thanks to lockdown and TikToks trends, many people have turned to home remedies to embrace their natural locks and waves. It can take a little time for your hair to adapt, but by following the new trend, you can reduce the heat on your hair, improve the condition of your hair, and feel confident as you embrace your natural look. Once your hair has adapted, it becomes an effortless part of your daily routine. You have to start by encouraging the curls. This means drying your hair with a softer material, such as a microfiber towel and avoiding rubbing it with a harsh towel, brushing your hair with a wide-tooth comb, using curl creme and anti-frizz products, a diffuser hair dryer, and much more.

#5 Wispy bangs

Wispy bangs are extremely popular, and are much more suited to those with thin hair, but can also be utilized by people with long thick hair to create more softness in the face. This style is in between bottleneck bangs, and a full set of bags. These are styled straight across the face, but use a technique that keeps the bangs much thinner and softer, with a light and wispy look, as opposed to the blunt and heavy look of a classic set of full bangs. They are usually partnered with layers around the face, and highlights, to create more texture and movement.

#6 Sleek high ponytail

Following the stars, such as Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and Jenifer Lopez, the hair scene can expect to continue to see sleek, high ponytails. No longer are we opting for low, messy buns, but moving into a more structured style. It also looks fancy, and if done properly, creates a flawless look. It may take some practice, especially if you have lots of wispy baby hairs. Stylists tend to use a lot of products to comb back the hair neatly, including hairspray and a toothbrush, to achieve the desired look. You may need longer hair to style this look. There are plenty of ways you can get longer hair quicker, by taking care of it, using less heat and opting for supplements for hair growth.

There are plenty of different styles that you can choose from, to suit your personal taste. Each style is versatile, which can suit a variety of hair lengths, so you may find that you can customize the style depending on the day, your mood, or the event that you are attending. Perhaps you will get choppy layers cut in so you can achieve a flawless bold look on a night out, then use a spare toothbrush and hairspray to slick it back into a sophisticated high pony for a day in the office.
