Elevate Your Sense of Style

Trends in fashion come and go, and yet there are some people who seem to look good no matter what’s in or out. They somehow exist above the petty clamoring around new looks or returning aesthetics – and we can tell you why (and even more importantly – how!)

The core of a good sense of style is taking pride and joy in the outfits you present, and this can be harder than you think. The following are mindsets for you to consider adopting, in order to navigate shopping fornew items and managing your wardrobe right now.

Chuck the Items You Know Aren’t Authentically You

You know exactly what we mean by this. The old sweater gifted to you by a relative, those jeans that don’t fit quite right, or anything you bought online that didn’t quite look how you imagined it would in real life, but you never got round to returning because it was too much hassle. These clothes are dead weight. Not only are they things you never wear, but they take up valuable wardrobe space for items that could really contribute to your outfit range and composition, and stop you from repeating the same clothing combination over and over.

Take some time to go through your cupboards, find the items you know and love, and separate the ones that don’t spark inspiration or have sentimental value or practical uses. Not all your clothes have to be flashy, but they do need to suit you and your lifestyle. You can sell, gift, or donate the items you choose not to keep.

Invest in the Items You Want

This is a mentality a lot of people ignore in favor of bulk buying lots of clothes they don’t nearly want or like as much. Instead of compromising on items you don’t need, why not indulge in a purchase that you will love and appreciate, and actually enjoy wearing?

It is a common occurrence that investing in pieces of high-end fashion like shoes and Gucci bags cause wearers to feel more in control and put together, increasing their self-esteem and manifesting opportunities through confidence. Furthermore, fashion purchases, unlike cars or technology, are items that do not necessarily depreciate in value when bought, and when taken care of, the decision to invest in a Gucci bag can be one where its value actually increases with time. Instead of buying cheap, poor quality items whose lifespan reflects their monetary worth – try taking a little extra pride in your wardrobe.

Motivate Your Fashion

Style is one of the best ways to put your best foot forward and project confidence and appeal, as well as expressing your personality. Whether you want to revamp and put a new spin on your looks, or you want to improve the execution of your current style, buying clothing that flatters your figure or enhances your features, are brilliant methods of affecting your mood. If you want to feel exciting and brave, use an outfit to express those sentiments, if you want to feel romantic, soft tones and flowy fabrics are your friends. Professionalism, athleticism, maternal or authoritative, clothes are one of the easiest ways to project your intentions into physical attire and make it perceivable by your peers. Colour, shape, and intention are three key aspects to consider.

Evaluate Your Outfits

This sounds tricky, but honestly just involves taking the extra thirty seconds to really consider if you look a certain way. Make sure you have a full-length mirror, and don’t position it in a way that will distort your figure – you want an accurate reflection of yourself. Next, make sure you see yourself in the correct lighting, natural is best, but if that’s impossible just make sure you are well lit.

Try placing soft lights around the mirror itself. This is so the colors can be seen properly and don’t clash with one another or look different from how you perceived them in your head. It can be so disappointing to look back on photos from a fun occasion and see how differently you appear from how you thought you looked leaving the house. The main culprit for this faux pas is lighting, so get ready where you can see yourself, and don’t hesitate to make changes to an outfit accordingly – go with your intuition!

Allowing these ideas to shape your wardrobe will put you on the path to feeling and looking better, without sending you into a tailspin. Improving your sense of style is about embracing what you truly desire and having fun in the process. It doesn’t need to be a serious, dramatic overhaul of identity, simply let go of your nervousness surrounding fashion, go for the items you want, and you will see yourself transform, wearing outfits to rival even the most admired icons!
