How to Pick a Best Mattress For Your Toddler

Finding a mattress for your toddler isn’t the easiest, though possible! Here are the five important factors to consider when doing so:

  1. The Type of Mattress

There are only two types of mattresses to consider for toddlers, the innerspring or cotton mattress.

I highly recommend that you get a durable innerspring mattress, which is known to last longer and provide the adequate support and comfort. They are also more affordable compared to other foam-type mattresses, as they are the classic and traditional mattresses we’re used to. Get innerspring mattresses with thicker coils for durability.

However, you can also consider getting the cotton-made mattress, which has the softness yet still stays firm enough for better sleep for your little one. Choose cotton or foam mattresses with high-density foam (four pounds per cubic foot) for better edge support and durability.

  1. Safe and Hypoallergenic Materials

You should only get the best materials for your mattresses, especially for your toddler, who can be sensitive to various materials and also make a mess easily. That’s why I recommend that you prioritize materials that are organic and waterproof!

I highly recommend organic materials, which are naturally hypoallergenic and safe, preventing any allergies on sensitive babies. Furthermore, invest in waterproof material which prevents huge issues if your little one makes a spill or mess. That way, it’s easier to clean and you have fewer issues in washing or blotting accidents and spills.

Avoid investing in mattresses made with harsh chemicals, which can affect the way your little one sleeps.

  1. Size and Durability

There is usually one standard size for a crib and toddler mattresses, though some may differ depending on the toddler bed or crib you’ll be placing it on. Consider the dimensions and area the mattress will be on to prevent any sizing trouble. It should fit your little one just right, too!

Also, besides the safe materials, the mattress should also have the solid foundation and make to last. While toddlers would outgrow these beds, it’s still best to find something durable for years, especially if you’re considering having another baby. You’ll get your money’s worth that way and will have less trouble and expenses with replacing the mattress.

  1. Comfort and Support

For your little one to get the best sleep, they should have the combination of both comfort and support. So while I suggest that you get a soft cover and feel for your little one, it shouldn’t be too soft as well! This is because babies require a firmer surface to support their heads and bodies. A firmer surface can prevent flat head syndrome and SIDS, keeping them in one position and not sinking down to the point of trapping them!

There’s a fine line between firm and hard. It should still be comfortable enough for babies to sleep on (not as hard as a floor!).

  1. What’s Your Budget?

You also need to take account how much you can spend on your toddler’s mattress. While you can find cheaper ones available, I recommend that you still look into a reasonable budget rather than getting the most inexpensive one out there. This is because it has a shorter lifespan and is more susceptible to wear and tear.

However, avoid overspending as well, which takes a toll on your budget (unless you can spend more). Set a reasonable price range and you can begin your search based on what you can afford. For me, I would set $100 to $300 as a reasonable one to start off with.

Wrapping It Up

And there you have it! With the proper mattress for your toddler, they will be able to sleep well and without any issues. You can sleep well and without worrying about their sleep quality as they stay in bed, resting soundly. It only takes a bit of research to choose the best mattress for them!
