Donna’s Beauty Check List

I am a mature woman and have dealt with many of the things that can make one appear less beautiful and older if they are not addressed. That being said, I put together a list of beauty items that can help a woman look both youthful and healthy, no matter her age.  In my next articles I will address how to achieve the below list in detail.

Donna Spangler actress/ Producer

  • Donna’s Beauty Checklist
    Face
How is your skin? Examine it. Is it smooth? Acne? Hydrated? Evenly toned? Dry? Flaky? Sun damage? If your skin is heavily damaged, you might want to consider a light chemical peel.
How are your eyes? Red? Clear? Puffy? Circles?
How are your brows? Are they bushy or trimmed well? Coloring?
Are your lips plump and even? Chapped?
Any facial hair? A simple laser treatment will take care of this evil.  Also, plucking or buying an inexpensive facial hair remover is an option as there are many on the market today.
Lashes – Are they lush and healthy or sparse and short?
Makeup – wearing too much can be extremely off-putting. Learn the perfect amount to highlight your face. Enlist the help of a friend or professional if you need guidance. There are also some great makeup videos on YouTube.
    Hair
Is your hair healthy? Thick? Well-groomed?
Is the color rich and flattering to your complexion? Do you have roots?
Is the style up-to-date and becoming? Split ends? Frizz?
    Is it shiny or dull?

Thick healthy hair or the appearance of is important

This is my body at 54 years old! I am quite prod as I work out 3 to 4 days a week for about 1 hour in the morning!

Body
Is your body fit? Too heavy or too thin?
Is your muscle tone lacking?
Is your body skin sagging?
Do you have discolorations on your body?
Are your fingernails and toe nails groomed?
Are you in proportion? Top and bottom?
Skin color – way too tan/pale?
Is your skin dry and flaky?
Body hair?

Hygiene
Are your teeth clean, brushed and smelling good?

Are your teeth yellow? Missing? Stained? In need of orthodontics? Teeth are crucial to a beautiful face.
Have you showered?
Is your hair clean, groomed well?
Are your clothes pressed, well thought out and appropriate for where you will be going?
Next take a look at your overall package. Look at yourself honestly and write down the things you like and the things that you would like to work on. This may be painful as no one wants to face their flaws, but in order to change something you don’t like, it is essential to address it first.

After your candid evaluation, you need to make a list of your goals and objectives both physically and mentally. Set realistic goals, and give yourself a timeframe. I like to make both short and long-term goals and reward myself for each accomplishment as I make it. Great satisfaction comes from achieving these goals and you will feel so much better about yourself as progress is made.

The Under $6 Lipstick Rita Ora Wore To The Billboard Music Awards

Celebrity Makeup Artist Kathy Jeung worked with Rita Ora for last night’s Billboard Music Awards – below is a breakdown of the look! Kathy used Rimmel London’s brand new Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour to get Rita’s nude matte lip, it’s available now exclusively at Ulta.com!

Who: Rita Ora at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards

The Inspiration:  Rita wore a black and white, crystal and lace dress by Francesco Scognamiglio. Kathy was inspired to pick up on the accents of the dress by going with smoky eyes with silver & gunmetal accents and shimmery highlights on the skin.

How to Get the Look:

Lips

Kathy lined Rita’s lips using Rimmel London’s Exaggerate Lip Liner in Innocent to give added shape and staying power. She finished off the lips by applying Rimmel London’s brand new Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Latte To Go.

Skin

Kathy applied Rimmel London Stay Matte Primer all over Rita’s cleansed face to create a smooth mattifying canvas for makeup. She then applied Rimmel London Match Perfection 2 ‘n 1 Concealer in shade Light with her ring finger in a tapping motion underneath Rita’s eyes, erasing dark circles. Kathy applied Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation in Sand with a flat foundation brush in broad strokes over Rita’s face, and blended with a damp sponge, giving Rita a sheer, natural looking matte finish. Kathy set the foundation with Rimmel London’s Stay Matte Long Lasting Press Powder, helping to keep Rita’s forehead, sides of the nose and cheeks shine-free.

Cheeks

Kathy used Rimmel London Kate Moss Sculpting & Highlighting Kit in Coral Glow to highlight the tops of Rita’s cheekbones, above her jawline and down length of her nose. She contoured the hollows under her cheekbones, just under her jawbone and under her chin using a narrow wedge brush and applied the blush using a rounded brush on the apples of her cheeks and extended towards temples.

Using a large fluffy brush, Kathy dusted Rimmel London’s Natural Bronzer in Sun Bronze along Rita’s hairline, temples, cheeks and under her chin. She also blended into the face to soften the contour.

Eyes

Kathy applied the beige shade of the Rimmel London Magnif’Eyes Shadow Contouring Palette in Grunge Glamour all over the eyelid to browbone as a base color and browbone highlighter. She highlighted the crease and lower lash line using the grey shadow. Using a thin brush, Kathy added the silver color shadow along and above smudged black line. She lined Rita’s eyes using Rimmel ScandalEyes Bold Liquid Liner with its unique soft pointed applicator, to draw a medium line along Rita’s lashes, then subtlety blending and smudging with black shadow from the Rimmel London Magnif’Eyes Shadow Contouring Palette in Keep Calm & Wear Gold. Kathy then used Rimmel London Magnif’Eyes Eye Crayon Due in Witness White to smudge the area around the inner corners of the eyes. To finish the eyes, she applied Rimmel London’s brand new volumizing, clump-free Shake It Fresh Mascara to lengthen and thicken Rita’s lashes.

Brows

Kathy gave Rita a strong brow, using Rimmel London Brow Shake Filling Powder in Brown. She then used Brow This Way Brow Styling Gel in Clear to keep stray hairs in place.

Where to Find Them: Rimmel London products are available at chain drug stores and mass retailers nationwide. Visit www.RimmelLondon.com for store locations and to try the newest products with Rimmel London’s exclusive Get The Look App available on iTunes and Google Play. Rimmel London’s new Shake It Fresh is available now at Target.com and Rimmel London’s Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour is available exclusively at Ulta.com.

Safe Solutions for 6 Common Beach Body Concerns

Summer is approaching! It’s the time of year met with mixed emotions. On one hand you’re excited for the warmer weather, open toe shoes and weekends at the beach or pool. On the other hand you dread revealing the stubborn cellulite, dull skin, stretch marks, scarring from breakouts on the chest shoulders or back not to mention coarse hairs.

Dr. Kirk Brandow, founder and director of the Brandow Clinic for Cosmetic Surgery in Philadelphia who has appeared on national programs such as Good Morning America and 20/20, offers some insights and tips on these top 6 beach body concerns.

  1. My skin is so pale!

It’s been way too long since you have seen a glimmer of sunshine and realize how your skin matches the white of your office walls. You want to avoid tanning beds and load up on sunscreen. “Opt for a bronzing cream or spray tan instead of tanning beds. Many of the women who come to me for facial procedures including Botox, fillers and laser treatments could have slowed down the aging process by being vigilant about sun protection and avoiding tanning beds,” cautions Dr. Brandow.

  1. I have acne scarring on my shoulders and chest.

The quickest and most permanent way to remove these infuriating scars is with a laser. “Lasers are a very efficient way to remove scars and improve over all skin texture with minimal side effects. Patients are pleased with the fast results, which can be seen after the first treatment with optimal results by end of a treatment cycle based on your own needs,” explains Dr. Brandow.

  1. I exercise but there still that little bit of tummy flab.

Stubborn tummy flab won’t disappear even with all of that exercising and dieting. Some people who have had children even consider a full tummy tuck. “It is very important to find a doctor who understands all options and can recommend one that will address your specific concern. Some pricey non-invasive body contouring procedures will offer a temporary result making it necessary to repeat them,” advises Dr. Brandow whose specialty is the Jersey Shore Tummy Tuck given his practice’s proximity to the Jersey Shore.

  1. Cellulite.

There is no easy way to remove cellulite; you are either using a coffee scrub or going in to see the doctor for a laser procedure. Dr. Brandow recommends the professional treatment called Smartlipo, which is a small laser that goes into the skin and melts the fat away. Smartlipo is a less invasive procedure than liposuction, is costly and time consuming but the results can last up to five years.

  1. Stretch Marks.

An inevitable result of weight fluctuation, are stretch marks.

Coolbeam laser is a new hit to eliminate stretch marks thanks to Kim Kardashian, who posted on her Snapchat about the procedure. Dr. Brandow explains, “lasers are far less invasive than a surgical procedure, which has a much longer recovery time.” Another option for stretch marks that Dr. Brandow recently spoke of on a recent TV segment is using PRP (platelet rich plasma), which involves pricking the scarred region with a special roller instrument then using the body’s own plasma to stimulate healing and collagen regrowth. “This is the same thing as the ‘Vampire facial’ but done on stretch marks. Results are incredibly impressive,” he says.

  1. Unwanted body hair.

Hair removal is always a beach season battle. For a more effective long-term hair removal option, Dr. Brandow highly recommends investing in laser hair removal. “Laser hair removal is the most permanent way to remove unwanted body hair. It takes ups to 6-12 treatments offering the best results.” Waxing is a popular option, which can last up to 3-6 weeks depending on how your hair grows. It is the quickest and long-lasting hair removal technique that doesn’t require any laser and it can be done at home.

Dr. Brandow also reminds people to check with their dermatologist for an annual skin screening before exposing themselves to another season of sunshine.
