The DOUX is A MUST DO! New Indie Hair Care Line Now Available at Target

THE STORY:

There’s something NEW and worth telling people with curls of all types and textures about. The Doux® (pronounced The Do) is a “new school” modern hair care system with an “old school edge.” With packaging that is bold and bright and product titles inspired by 90’s hip hop, The Doux is poised to kill it with those seeking a way to smoothing curly, kinky, and wavy hair into both, curly or straight styles.

Created by Maya Smith, a 25-year celebrity stylist and International Curl Master, The Doux was first launched in Europe in 2011 in response to her passion for helping people master the hair they were born with. STRAIGHT, NATURAL, CURLY, or RELAXED, according to The Doux, if you grew it, it’s ALL GOOD. “I was living in Germany at the time, had my own salon there and my specialty was helping clients to transition to a relaxer-free lifestyle. I’m obsessed with people maximizing the potential of the hair they were born with. Mastering curls is my passion and purpose,” explains Smith.

The people felt her passion through her products. The Doux blew up overseas so much so that it caught the attention of media in the USA. “Once we started getting press in the states the demand for The Doux was incredible. I had to return to the states and see this vision through,” Maya Smith explains. In 2014, Maya opened The DOUX Salon™ in Macon Georgia’s historic Downtown district and started selling her professional grade products at her salons and on-line.

Fast-forward three years and a lot of work and dedication, The Doux will arrived in Target stores in the winter of 2017 into 2018; no easy feat for an indie brand. “We are so excited to bring The Doux to the masses. It’s 20 years in the making. We listened to 20 years of feedback from actual clients from Minneapolis to Morocco. We listened to what people wanted, a salon grade, high quality product that delivered on its promises. Helping people to manage and maintain their natural hair and celebrate their own bold, unique style is what the last 25 years of my professional life has been about,” Maya Smith shares.

The Doux also redesigned its packaging, with the intention to disrupt the category. Maya did all the of the package design herself bold with bright colors, which is the opposite of the more subdued look you see on the shelves currently. “I’m a fan of 90’s rap so I wanted to incorporate lyrics and titles in the packaging,” adds Smith. With titles such as Bonita Afro Balm, Mousse Def, Sucka Free, Fresh Rinse, and The Light, The Doux will most definitely catch the eyes of Millennials and Gen X’ers alike.

5 Ways to Turn Over a New leaf and Start Afresh

There often comes the point in your life when you feel like you want to start over. This could be because you’re tired of the chapter you’re currently at or because growth has pushed you to a new level. Whatever the case, starting afresh is something that you willingly or unwillingly end up doing at different points in your life. No matter what the reason is, starting over can be good in many cases as it gives you the chance to hit the reset button and do things differently. It also creates the opportunity for you to experience life in a new way whether it’s by moving to a new place, mingling with different people, or spending more time getting to know yourself. In light of this, you will find five ways to turn over a new leaf in the following article.

Make Peace with Your Past

One of the first steps that you should take when turning over a new leaf is making peace with your past. Sometimes you can find it difficult to move on because you’re still holding on to things that have happened to you and may have had a major impact in your life. Some of these things may include heartbreaks, losing a friend, death, or other disappointments. They could even be things that you’ve done wrong to others or mistakes that you’ve made that you can’t seem to forgive yourself for. However, if you truly want to move on, letting it go and moving forward is key. Some ways to let go of the past include picking up the habit of meditating, understanding your past so that it becomes easier to move on and then accepting your past. Some other things that may help are loving the process, being grateful, and believing in yourself. You should try and always remember that you are not your past and the future has many beautiful things in store for you.

Set New Goals

Another important way to turn over a new leaf and start afresh is by setting yourself new goals. Sometimes this gives you the motivation and stamina you need to start over and soar higher. Setting goals should be about first evaluating where you are and then determining where you want to go from there. You may decide that you want to set new targets for some long-time dreams and aspirations that you’ve had. On the other hand, it may be that you have a new-found passion that you want to pursue and map out how you’re going to go about it. You should also note that setting new goals don’t have to be career-related. You could resolve to start eating better, work on improving your relationships, or set targets for any other aspect of your life that you’d like to improve. When setting goals, some steps you can take include writing down your goal, making sure it is realistic, and achievable, developing an action plan that tells you how you’re going to achieve it, then following it up. This should help you feel positive about your fresh start and give you a little more motivation along the way.

Let go of Bad Habits

Turning over a new leaf often means letting go of the past as mentioned above. Sometimes this also implies letting go of bad habits that may keep you from moving forward. Some that you may want to leave behind is bad eating habits and not getting enough exercise. This is because when starting over, you want to feel both mentally and physically intact. Some ideas for a healthy diet change if you aren’t already doing them are eating more goat cheese, trying to snack on popcorn, eating more coconut, grass-fed beef, and canned salmon in case you don’t have the time to cook it from scratch. Some other things you can eat are tofu, purple potato, oysters, blackberries, and spaghetti squash. In addition to changing your diet and staying active, you should also try and get rid of any habits that may be damaging your health like drug and alcohol abuse. You can do this by looking for some of the best rehab centers in your local area and seeing how they can help you recover. Looking for ways to replace bad habits with good ones should be your ultimate goal when turning over a new leaf.

Get a New Look

When starting afresh, it may be time to change your physical look as well. It might imply getting a new hair-cut, changing your style of dressing, or just adding something new to your overall look. Doing this can make you feel like a new person as well as make you feel like you’re entering a new phase. It is also a way of self-expressing and depicting how you feel outwardly. Some ideas for new looks may be going short if your hair is long, trying a new color, or a completely different style than what you’re used to. Regarding clothing, if you’re a safe dresser, why not think of something a little more daring and edgy. You can look for ways to make statements with your clothing and try different color combinations than what you’re typically used to. It is important that your look makes you feel comfortable but pushing your boundaries a little could prepare you for a fresh start.

Improve Your Inner Circle

The people that you spend the most time with can significantly impact your ability to move forward with your life. For this reason, it is imperative that you choose to spend time with people who push you to be better and have a positive influence on you. If you already have such people around you, then you should look for ways to nurture those relationships. On the other hand, if you find such relationships are lacking in your life, consider looking for mentors that are where you would want to be as well as networking and forging natural friendships with people that you admire.

Change is inevitable in most cases, so changing on your terms could be a good decision to make. There are always opportunities to right your wrongs and retrace your steps to navigate your life in the direction you want it to go. Turning over a new leaf and starting afresh is just one of many ways to do it.

Orian Rose Gold Dynamakis Aviator Sunglasses

Orian Rose Gold Dynamakis Aviator Sunglasses

I promised previously that I would share my favorite style of Dynamikos Sunglasses. Orian Rose Gold! (pictured on model above. photo taken from dynamikos.com).

Brown or Bronze lenses have been my lens colors of choice with a grey pair here and there. The Dynamikos gradient Rose color totally grabbed my attention. I needed a change in the accessory department this year. New Sunglasses, sunnies, shades, whatever you may call them, are always a great confidence booster. The Orian Rose Gold style boosts mine to the moon! Here is some info on this design provided by the Dynamikos website:

Specs and Material & Warranty and Care

  • Transform your world with rose-colored aviator-style luxury eye wear. Hand-crafted in Japan, these rose-gold sunglasses feature a tortoise accent brow bar and temples. Take flight.
    • Frame Fit: Wide to Wide
    • Material: Metal
    • Measurements: 61-14-136
    • Hinge: 3 barrel
    • Lens: 100% UV and UVB protected, scratch resistant, CR-39/li>
    • Lens color: Rose gradient
  • We stand behind our promise of quality. If a manufacturing defect arises within one year of ownership, we will replace the frames or lenses free of charge upon verification of the defect. Learn more about our warranty here.Sunglasses collect tiny particles of sand, ocean salt, pool chemicals, lotion, and sweat. These elements can wear down your eye wear over time. Rinse with clean water and wipe dry with a microfiber cloth on a regular basis.

You will notice the lenses provide 100% UV and UVB protection . That means that the glasses protect your eyes from both UVA and UVB radiation. This Aviator style and size protects not only my eyes but the delicate skin around my eyes. These lens provide a clear, sharp and satisfying image.

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. I would like to take some time to mention a few things we should know about cancer in and around the eyes and how it can be prevented.

The Eyelids are highly susceptible to Skin Cancer. According to skincancer.org, the upper and lower eyelids, eyebrow, inner and outer junction of the eyelid and lid margins are all susceptible.

Make sure your sunglasses are of sufficient size to shield the eyes, eyelids, and surrounding areas. The more skin you cover, the better.

The link between sunlight and eye melanomas is not proven, but some doctors think that sunglasses do reduce eye melanoma risk.

Where your sunglasses year round, even when there is no visible sun.

The Dynamikos experience has been a great one.  Thank you Dayna Lee Cornelius and team.

Style & Co., a Clothing Brand “Worth a Look”

Style & Co. Peplum Top at Amazon

Style & Co. Peplum Top at Amazon

Style & Co. at the close out store.

I recently checked out a close-out retailers women’s clothing section.  The round clothing racks were bunched together and not very organized. They, actually, were barely organized at all. I walked among them slowly and with a plan of attack.

I narrowed styles I would explore down by color; white, ivory, black, navy blue and by style; short sleeve and sleeveless. No buttons.  Into about  the second half hour of looking, I found a top by Style & Co.  It was priced fantastically at $9.99. I grabbed it and carried it to the register without looking any further. (image above)

I wore it the next day with a pair of Black Danskin Yoga Pants. My pant of choice these days. The top can nicely be styled up or down.

My mom loved it and suggested I try to find another one, maybe in navy blue.  I  did not feel like hitting the close out store again.  I, instead, searched on line and found another of the Layered Look Scoop Neck Top, (pictured below in black), the same style but in Navy Blue as my mom suggested. It was priced at a little over $20 on Amazon.  I purchased it quickly.  It was the last one in size medium. I never got to experience the fit in a size small but the medium seemed to do just fine. The top was delivered to me  two days later (which is today). I am as happy with it as I was with the close out store purchase.

The Style & Co. top has a few descriptions on Amazon. They each vary a little. Here is one:

  • Knit: cotton; woven: rayon
  • Scoop neckline
  • Peplum ruffle hem
  • Sleeveless
  • Machine washable

I wanted to share this brand with those who have not heard of it and a reminder to those who have.  It is available at Macy’s stores also and is “worth a look”.

Two halos are better than one

Two Halos are better than one, and I don’t mean the orange kind. I’m talking about headbands that are exclusively created by Urbanhalo. If you wear headbands all the time like I do, you will especially love Urbanhalo Headbands. these Headbands serve a purpose, to keep hair away from your face and neck. It’s even more important to have your hair properly contained when exercising. Urbanhalos Headbands are the perfect hair accessory for both.

I love my headbands but the major drawback to metal or tight fitting headbands is that headaches can occur. Headbands will also leave a dent on the side of your head which isn’t noticeable but extremely uncomfortable.

Urbanhalo Headbands do not give you headaches. As a matter of fact, I can’t even feel them around my head, that’s how comfortable they are. They keep your hair in place, the sweat off your forehead and they don’t slip off. Did I mention they are nylon free and come in an array of fashionable colors. My daughter and I wear ours to spin class and we love them. The two styles shown above are Avalance (left) and Serendipity (right).

Urbanhalo Headbands are an exercise fashion “must have” and a stylish hair accessory for anytime. They are made of superior sweat-wicking fabric to keep you cool and dry throughout your daily activities. Urbanhalo Headbands measure 9 x 5 x .25 in so you can adjust the width of your band to fit your style and activity. The fabric is super soft and stretchy giving you the comfort you want.

Urban Halo Headbands are a loyal brand that’s handmade with love in the fabulous USA.

ABOUT THE CREATOR:Urbanhalo was created out of need when founder Jen Joas couldn’t find the ideal headband for her daily jog. Hoping to find something that looked good and kept sweat off her face without causing a headache, she started her quest to find the perfect fabric combination and Urbanhalo was born! Unique fabric blend
Created in the US.”

Urban Halo offers headbands in mens and childrens sizing si the whole family can enjoy them and a great price of $15 – learn more at Urbanhalo.com

Dona Bela SHREDS Created With Textile Remnants

Dona Bela Shreds!  I had to post the above photo before continuing because I love this design (ClassicLT CLT-8028). I wear scarves a lot.  Lately, throughout winter, the styles I have worn have been big and bulky, faux fur, infinity, snood, pocket scarves, shawls and chunky knits.  Everyone of them I love and choose with great thought and consideration of my moods, wardrobe, temperature variations and winter skin tone. I feel lost when I put them away until next season. I depend on scarves as a wardrobe staple.

This Spring season, I have packed away my wardrobe of cold weather scarves and replaced them with a few (at least for now) of Dona Bela Shreds. I have some scarves from years past and, of course, I will purchase  a few more for this Spring and Summer season. Bela Dona Shreds are so unique and are actually referred to as neck wear. I like that. The brand has a fabulous story behind it. The one of a kind designs are created with refurbished textile remnants. These designs provide a thoughtful & unique model for sustainability. You can read more about the mission of the Dona Bela Shreds site right HERE.

Dona Bela Shreds fit my lifestyle. For Spring and Summer, I am most comfortable in a fitted T, a Denim or Khaki Capri  and a “throw on and go” scarf. I wear some flats or a cute wedge sandal, my favorite Dynamikos sunglasses and a cross-body bag. I’ll bring along a cute stylist jacket for a chilly night.

Take a look at a few more Dona Bela Shreds Designs below and let me know what you think or better yet, check out the website, the sale items, take a peak at the brand’s Instagram page and order for yourself and, or a friend. You won’t be disappointed.

Kate Bosworth at The Met Gala

At The Met Gala 2018 celebrity hairstylist, Michael Silva x Cricket Co. Tools styled Kate Bosworth’s hair for the red carpet by creating a sculpted rose chignon with a cross part. Michael’s clients also include Megan Markle, The Kardashians, and Ashley Graham. See below for step-by-step and details:
