Mother’s day is just around the corner and you know what that means…Yep! I have been tooling around in my favorite tool shed AKA my crazy craft closet. I love to use my creatively to make my mother a handmade gift. I found some wooden letters at Michaels craft store and some great remnant fabric in my craft closet to create this adorable wall hanging. It’s DIY on the FLY with the perfect gift for Mom for Mother’s Day. Enjoy! To all the mom’s out there have a wonderful blessed day celebrating beautiful you! xo
Studio 10 Tampa DIY Easter Basket
I had so much fun today on the Studio 10 Tampa Show making a DIY tutu Easter basket. Easter is such a sweet holiday to share with family, friends and children. It’s religious significance is special but it’s also a day filled with magic as the Easter bunny appears alongside Easter bonnets, people dressed in their Sunday best, and of course the traditional Easter egg hunt which calls for a fanciful Easter basket to collect all your darlings sweet finds in! I have always loved making an Easter basket for my daughter and now it’s time for you to learn how to make one yourself.
Supplies: Basket, Tulle in desired color or colors, Ribbon (at least 4 yards), Silk flowers, Other desired embellishments such as crystals, buttons, vintage jewelry, Glue Gun with Glue Sticks, Scissors, and Spray paint in your desired color.
Step One: Spray paint your basket your desired color and let dry.
Step Two: Cut your tulle into 12” x 4” strips.
Step Three: Using two layers of cut tulle at a time use a crochet needle to pull your tulle through the slots in the basket and tie with a simple slip knot. Repeat this step around your basket alternating colors.
Step Four: Use your scissors to trim your tulle around your basket so that it is even.
Step Five: Embellish your basket with silk flowers, ribbon bows, buttons, vintage jewelry pieces around your basket and the basket handle anyway that you like. I love to add a few Swarovski crystals with my glue gun when I am finished for a little added touch. Get creative and have fun making it your Easter basket for your little darling to treasure forever!
Margaritaville Luau Tablescape Challenge
I was recently asked to design a luau themed tablescape by Jimmy Buffets amazing company Margaitaville. They challenged me to come up with some creative budget friendly ideas to decorate my table and I thought I would share it with you. With spring in the air and summer just around the corner it’s time to think about entertaining for your next party. Here is a simple DIY idea that I came up with to dress up your charger plate. It’s inexpensive and so simple to make anyone can do it! The best part is that you can adapt it to any party theme and wow your party guests at the same time. I would love to see your own creations and to hear your thoughts on this super cute DIY tablescape idea.

Made in America: The Julian Chang story
JULIAN CHANG STORY: MADE IN AMERICA
Inspiration: I am a Miami based designer so our collections have the Miami flair, I always try to use bold colors and fun prints, combined with comfortable textures. I think every woman wants to feel beautiful and sexy so our collections project that dual feeling.
My inspirations can come from different places; travels, an exciting performer, art work, textiles or a great book
Collection: I like to work with easy care materials for the modern woman, including silk jerseys, and materials with natural fibers such as silks and cotton. Rather than working exclusively in only one type of fabric or color palettes, I prefer to use the appropriate material and color to make the garment evoke the aesthetic I am seeking.
Manufacturing: We produce everything in Miami. The Julian Chang label states: “Proudly Made in the USA”. This construct enables me to accomplish two objectives; giving back to my country of choice, while at the same time providing employment opportunities for others in the community, in working conditions and at wages that will also enable them to have fulfilling lives for themselves and their families.
Company Overview: 16 full time employees, 6 independent contractors, 4 showrooms across the country, and 600 boutiques throughout the world selling to end users.
The company ships to over 3,000 units a month, all proudly made in the USA. The first full year the collection was produced was 2010, from a small store-front with two employees. Today our design and manufacturing facility encompasses in excess of 4,000 square feet. Currently, the company produces four different collections annually; resort/spring, summer, autumn, winter/holiday. Each collection is comprised of between 25 and 30 different “looks”.

Florida Fashion Weekend: Recap
Fashion, food, and friends, a few of my favorite things were all tied together last Saturday night at Fashion E.D.G.E., Florida Fashion Week. The Vanity Nightclub in Orlando, FL was all hustle & bustle with excited designers, models, and judes. I was so excited to attend. I met many new people, saw some beautiful, unique fashions and discovered a little more about the “nightlife”. Florida Fashion Week showcased fashions from designers like, MdizCollections, Xanimichi Roy’el, ZHE YANG, SewInVogue, The Lion Of Art, and Kala Express. Also, featured a panal of judges, Ms. Latina International Angela Posillico, host Jimmy Star from Miami’s “The Jimmy Star Show” and host Jorge Alvarado of Tampa’s “The Jorge Show”.
Photos courtesy of: Hashim HaskinsFlorida Fashion Week is put on twice a year, for spring lines & fall lines, by Fierce Entertainment Management (this is its second year). Fashion E.D.G.E.(Emerging Designer Gauntlet Exhibit) is a competition with some prizes that these designers surely fought for. A plaque, interview in Orlando Fashion Magazine, interview on “The Jorge Show” and guaranteed in Orlando International Fashion Week designer lineup. That makes me want to start my own line just so I can have the chance to compete lol. As the models graced the runway, I became even more excited. Each line had it’s own unique twist. I have always loved and had an eye for fashion so to get to be here I think some of them belong on the red carpet or even in Vogue.
Photos courtesy of: Hashim HaskinsSo I bet you are wondering who was the lucky winner that will walk away with all these prizes? Give it up for Mdiz Collection! Meleissa Dunkley-Hampton, owner/designer wowed the audience with her collection. But Jorge had one more little surprise for her…he is going to feature the winner along w/ the stars of Project Runway! If I were Meleissa I would so be on cloud 9. Congratulations Meleissa.
So even though this Florida Fashion Weekend’s second year, it has definitely made its mark. Getting to meet and make new friends was the highlight of my evening. I met Jorge Alvarado of “The Jorge Show”, an up & coming fashion Designer who will have her show in Orlando, Fl on March 29, and so many more. I think we will see more Florida Fashion Weekend throughout the years and all I can say is YES!!!!!
Stay tuned for more blogs about designers, judges and more from the event
