The Top Hair Colors For Glamming Up Your Winter Look

Zinke hair salon colorado

There’s nothing better than the feeling of having freshly colored hair. The confidence it brings can make us look and feel like a million dollars.

Many of us choose to up our hair game over the winter months when we’re hidden under layers and warm coats to fight off the winter chill. This will be even more relevant this year as we cover up to stay warm and to stay COVID-19 safe.

With 2020 being one of the more challenging years in recent history there’s no better time to get to the salon for a fresh color that will stand out from the pack and from around your winter facemasks.

Natural Color

With salons working at reduced capacity to try to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are opting to go for color more in line with their natural hair.

With most of us having to steer clear of the salon due to COVID-19, lots of people have come face to face with our natural colors for the first time in years. And with COVID-19 looking set to continue into 2021 many people including celebrities are choosing to embrace their natural beauty.

Choosing to go back to your natural color can be a great way to change up your look, particularly if you’ve experimented with many colors over the years.

You could also consider highlights to bring out the natural beauty to your hair color while injecting some extra sparkle to your hairdo. Many people are also embracing babylights which are similar to highlights but much more subtle. They provide a natural sunkissed look to your hair which can be perfect for those not wanting to return to the salon too soon.

Blondes

Choosing to go blond can be a great experience. It can also help to mask any root growth for any of us with a sprinkling (or more) of grey to our natural color.

A pretty golden blonde is swinging back into style thanks to the gorgeous Emma Corrin’s portrayal of Princess Di on the new season of the Crown. This is a more natural blond than the platinum and white blondes that we’ve seen grow in popularity in recent years, but much easier to incorporate with natural roots, which can be invaluable over the months to come when we are all unsure of when we’ll next get to sit in a salon chair.

Take a look at Zinke Hair Salon for some inspiration. Zinke is also a brilliant choice for anyone wanting to be sure that their visit will be COVID safe as well as environmentally friendly – and will leave your hair looking amazing!

Pastels and Rainbows

A lot of women are choosing to embrace the wilder look with some multicolored or pastel hair tones. With this year being a hard one, why not liven up your look with bright colors? With more of us working from home there’s never been a better time to experiment with bold colors.

If you do go for this choice it might be worth having a balayage look, so that if you can’t get into the salon over the next few months there won’t be any roots to worry about. That being said, the grown-out roots look has been in vogue for a few years now, particularly when coupled with a dusty pink or a mermaid green.

Dyeing your hair a bright color has also been shown to improve confidence and self-image. We all need a bit of a pick me up this year, so if you’re itching for change and excitement you can do no better than going bright!

Launchpad Magazine Shares A Blooming Hues Hair Color Trend

Launchpad magazine ‘s Kamala Kirk Managing Editor of Beauty Launchpad and Senior Editor of MAN tells us that Blooming Hues hair is inspired by the natural transition of flowers.

Summer is right around the corner, and many women are looking to change up their look for something lighter and brighter! To celebrate this beautiful time of year when flowers are in full bloom effect, color expert Kyle David of Sally Hershberger Los Angeles has created a stunning new color service, Blooming Hues.

“This trend is inspired by the natural transition of flowers, which start as buds and develop into blossoms,” says David. “This is also seen in children’s hair, which I mimic via my technique to help achieve that naturally stunning look from the days of one’s youth.”

To create this look, David strategically places highlights and lowlights where the sun would reflect on hair, giving tresses a natural, sun-kissed look. Depending on his client’s hair color, he varies his techniques to attain the desired effect.

Brunettes:  “It’s all about lowlights. Lowlighting creates shadows in the hair that the lighter pieces live on top of, creating texture. To achieve this, I highlight with the already-existing color, which in turn preserves integrity.”

Blondes: “For blondes ranging from dark blonde to platinum, I give the base a little shadow that softens the transition from the base to the ends. By doing this, this also makes blondes look blonder by giving contrast.”

Redheads: “For my redheads, there is a copper sheen that lives in younger hair that is truly gorgeous. I like to add some depth with lowlights and pump up the overall color a notch with a vibrant, rich gloss.”

“Clients love this service because it can be tailored for anyone so it looks good on everyone,” adds David. “It looks natural because I place highlights and lowlights in a way that they emulate where the sun would reflect on the hair, giving tresses a very natural, sun-kissed look. Because I balayage, there are no hard lines, so the grow-out phase is gradual and soft. And I do not over-highlight or excessively dry the hair, so locks remain healthy!”

Hair Color Trends Inspired By 2018 Oscar Nominees

Hair Color Trends Inspired By 2018 Oscar Nominees

Award shows have quickly become much more than publicized entertainment and career recognition for ritzy biz professionals. From the Golden Globes to the Oscars, these shows are now leveraged as major platforms for some of the most influential people to reach and inspire an expansive audience, whether that’s through a thoughtful, impassioned speech, a pin donned on an outfit, or the color choice of a dress or suit.

More and more of these individuals, specifically women, continue to make history and inspire those of us watching at home to be the best versions of ourselves. Their style and fashion choices aren’t frivolous; every look represents something about who they are or what they believe, and watching these powerful women walk down the red carpet reminds me to reflect on something as seemingly simple as what I wear and what that really means. While we may not be able to get our hands on their makeup, hair, and style crews, we can remember that how we choose to look is one of many ways to be our truest selves.

The Colors

For some reason, being yourself can feel like taking a big risk, and over the last few years, changing your hair color has become a sure-shot way to make a bold statement about who you are. It’s now about as popular as swapping out your lipstick; it’s a big enough change to feel risky and exciting, but easy enough to revert back to your roots.

To find some fabulous hair inspiration, I could think of no one better than the following women who have been nominated for an Oscar for their incredible work this year.

Quick Tip: Again, you don’t need to see an expensive hair colorist to get their looks, either. Coined by Allure as the “fairy godmother of hair color,” eSalon is one company who also believes that the right shade can make you feel “totally you,” and their line of custom hair color has won the Allure Best of Beauty Award four years in a row. Armed with the following muses and a customized kit, you can ‘do you’ from the comfort of your own home.

Mary J. Blige — Golden Blonde

Mary J Blige

Nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her incredible work in “Mudbound” (whose cinematographer Rachel Morrison made history with her own nom), Mary J. Blige has hairstylist Kim Kimble to thank for her million-hit-wonder hairstyles. Blige is most famous for rocking this playful shade of beige that seems to magically oscillate between hot and cold.

Meryl Streep — Graceful Gray

Meryl Streep

It’s a mystery how she does it, but every year Meryl seems to become even more legendary. Nominated for Best Actress for her role in “The Post,” Meryl has been gracefully embracing some silver tones peeking through her blonde tresses. More and more women are reminding us that age isn’t just wise, it’s beautiful, and they’ve ignited an exciting trend of young women adventurously coloring their hair gray and other icy cool shades.

Saoirse Ronan — Patchy Pink

Saoirse Ronan

Ronan’s role as Lady Bird was a performance that not only got her a nomination for Best Actress, but her character reignited fond (and heartbreaking) memories of teen angst for women around the country. Lady Bird’s pink-almost-orange-dipped hair is nothing short of iconic, and also showcases the modern woman’s desire to find and be herself.

Frankie Shaw’s Get The Look by Jo Baker

Frankie Shaw at the Golden Globes

Frankie Shaw at the Golden Globes

Frankie Shaw’s Get The Look by Jo Baker using the bareMinerals Made-2-Fit app…
The Inspiration: Radiant and flawless looking skin accented by a smoldering antique gold eye
How to Get the Look:
Skin
To get Frankie’s radiant skin, Jo Baker used a bareMinerals Made-2-Fit Fresh Faced Foundation custom blended just for her skin a few days prior to the Golden Globes. To create the bespoke foundation exclusively for Frankie, Jo used the bareMinerals Made-2-Fit App to scan her skin in five different. A lightweight, buildable and oil-free formula, bareMinerals Made-2-Fit Fresh Faced Foundation Customized by MATCHCo is infused with Green Tea and Vitamin E, both powerful antioxidants, to combat signs of aging. Moisturizing ceramides and White Lily Extract work to plump and smooth fine lines, resulting in luminous skin.
Jo wanted an additional radiance boost on the cheeks and brows so she swept the bareMinerals Invisible bronze in Fair to Light to add a soft focus glow under the camera flashes. She then doubled up on blush by mixing bareMinerals Invisible Glow in Medium with Ready Blush and The Confession which is a super universal every day perfect cheek color.
Eyes
Using her fingers Jo applied an antique gold tone shadow to create a smokey effect that didn’t appear heavy or too dark. To add a little depth and intensity, Jo applied a dark eyeliner along the inside waterline and smudged it into the lash line to add drama and a moodiness. She finished off Frankie’s eyes with the bareMinerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara with Petite Precision Brush. The tiny fine-tuning brush within the formula allowed a feathery and defined lash line which was the perfect complement to the smokey shadow.
Lips
Jo and Frankie wanted a low maintenance and pretty lip to complement the antique gold smokey eye. To prep Frankie’s lips, Jo used bareMinerals Bareskin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer in Medium. Jo placed the concealer around her mouth to mute her natural lip tone and the perfect long wear base to set her nude lip. Jo loves a creamy moisture rich finish in a nude and bareMinerals Gen Nude Radiant Lipstick in Tutu gave Frankie’s lips the perfect rich satin finish.
The bareMinerals MADE-2-FIT app is free to download iTunes and select androids; each bespoke bareMinerals Made-2-Fit Fresh Faced Foundation Customized by MATCHCo retails for $49 for a 30ml bottle. For more information, please visit www.bareminerals.com or your nearest bareMinerals store.

Nicole Kidman Dazzles at the 2016 Critic’s Choice Awards

unnamed-2

Tonight, at the 22nd Annual Critics’ Choice Awards held at Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar in California, Nicole Kidman shined on the red carpet in her gorgeous gown and sleek hair style. Her go-to hairstylist, Kylee Heath, used MOP haircare and Cricket Co. products to create this glamorous and sophisticated look.

Please see below the step-by-step, imagery can be found here and let me know if you need any additional information!

Hairstylist: Kylee Heath

Inspiration: “The dress, we wanted to keep the hair classic, but also modern and sleek”

Style: Middle part low twisted knot with the hair fanned out to the side

“I started off by applying MOP Lemongrass Lift ($22) to Nicole’s roots and Pear Detangler ($22) to the ends. Then I combed the product evenly through the hair

Next, I blow-dried the hair using the Ultra Smooth™ Professional Hair Dryer ($96.95) and Technique™ Silk Thermal 370 1.75″ ($15.99) round brush to really smooth out the hair

At the crown, I blow-dried the hair in an upward motion to give it more lift

Once the hair was dry I smoothed out the hair from midshaft to end with the Ultra Smooth™ Professional Styling Iron($89.95)

I warmed MOP molding cream ($22) in my hands and used it to smooth out ends, tame flyaways and to lay down the cuticle

Then, I pulled all of Nicole’s hair back low at the nape of her neck, twisted the hair around my hand and secured it using small bobby pins leaving the ends of the hair out so that they fanned out toward the side

Next I sprayed the C-system Firm Finish Hairspray($24) for hold and added shine

Last, we decided to pull two small pieces of hair from the front for added softness”

Jessica Lange, Tony Awards

Oscar Blandi Hair Care was used to create award-winner, Jessica Lange’s hairstyle for the 70th Annual Tony Awards last evening. Jessica won the Best Leading Actress Tony for her role as Mary Cavan Tyrone in Long Day’s Journey Into Night.

Below is the step-by-step from Jessica’s stylist, Michael Silva

  • On damp hair, I used the Oscar Blandi Lift Thickening Gel from roots to ends to make hair appear fuller and more voluminous.
  • Then I used Jasmine Oil Hair Serum on the ends for shine and heat damage control.
  • Using a blow-dryer, I styled section by section with a round brush spraying throughout with the Lacca Medium Hold Hairspray.
  • After the blowout, I backcombed the roots for added volume and sprayed  the Pronto Dry Texture and Volume Spray at the roots.  It makes the style look more natural.
  • Lastly, I lightly brushed out the curls and finished with Lacca Medium Hold Hairspray and a tiny bit more of the Jasmine Oil Hair Serum on the ends.
