Spring, a time for rebirth with ABC Home

uma oils

Spring….a time for rebirth, renewal and regrowth….we see it in nature and we also see it in ourselves. It is a time when we want to move more, we feel our senses come alive to the sights, sounds and smells of the season. We feel lighter, rediscover ourselves and we too like the flowers about to bud, reconnect with the spirit within. We awaken from winter’s hibernation and appreciate the beauty of the world around us.

The beauty is not just in the outside world, it is in our own selves as well. “All beings are flowers blossoming  in a blossoming universe” Soen Nakagawa. It was fitting then, on one of the first sunny, warm days in NYC that ABC Home, known for helping discover a world of inspiration and beauty for the home, turned the focus into finding a day to find our home within; a day to rediscover and treasure your unique beauty, by incorporating the beauty, wellness and wisdom of the season.

The day started off in Deepak Homebase , which is magical in its own right. It sets up a serene, tranquil and accepting environment which would be the backdrop for a day of bliss, self love and connection; a day of engaging with our greatest eco-brands and their founders; a day to set your intention in learning from masters.

The day started with insightful talks on astrology, yoga, lifestyle medicine, food, creating a peaceful economy and getting in touch with your intuition.  We learned from Spiritual Astrologer Demitra Vassiliadis that this spring the planets are lining up in order to get us to return to the deepest sense of value, what we love about ourselves and may have forgotten along the way. All of the topics discussed reinforced the importance of self love, acceptance and embracing your own uniqueness. To be united with the beauty we see.

The afternoon was a session for the senses. Flowering arranging with ABC Bloom, smudging with Incausa, aromatherapy with Palermo Body and Rahua. We discovered  wonderful ways to reconnect with your body such as aline your spine Alexander technique and healing tonics and elixirs such as Bija Bhar turmeric lattes, Four Sigmatic’s mushroom coffee, Moon Juice’s beauty dust lattes, Olivia Clementine tea sampling, salad dressings by Organic Culinary Argan Oil by Victoria Akkari, digestive bitters by Urban Moonshine, water sampling by Water Talk, and Welly Bottle  water infusions, beauty treatments such as Dr. Alkaitis reiki facials, Tracie Martyn hand and eye treatments, NUORI moisturizing masks, Rahua scalp massages, sampling of innovative products by Erbaviva, Indie Lee, Intelligent Nutrients, Kahina, Osea, tenoverten and UMA Oils helped stimulate the senses. And with hair styling by Yarok , the re discovering of ones inner beauty has begun!

Spring is the time of new beginnings…..

Straight from the stylist: get the look

Rosamund Pike’s look was a showstopper at last night’s 87th annual Academy Awards.
Her hair was styled exclusively with Oscar Blandi products by Kylee Rae Heath. Here is the breakdown straight from Kylee:

“It was key to have it look easy and untried. We wanted to create tons of texture.”

TO CREATE THE LOOK:
1. Starting on damp hair I sprayed Oscar Blandi Protein Mist throughout the hair.

2. I then applied Oscar Blandi Hair Lift Mousse and combed the product through.

3. Next, I blew her hair out creating volume and movement. Before using a Sultra 3/4 inch sized barrel and a 1inch sized marcel iron to create texture, I sprayed Oscar Blandi Dry Styling Heat Protect Spray.

4. Once the texture was in place, I used a comb to section from behind the left ear, over the head to the top of the right ear.

5. I pulled the back section into a ponytail. Then, looking in a mirror together, I pulled the front section back to meet the ponytail securing with bobby pins.

6. I sprayed the look into place and twisted the ponytail into a bun and pinned it. Then finished the look with the Pronto Lacca Medium Hold Hairspray and applied the Polish Glossing Creme to the short hair of her undercut.

And the Oscar goes to…

Ever since I was little I always wondered what it would be like to walk the red carpet. How would I feel with all those cameras. Will I be so excited I can hardly contain myself? But most importantly what would I wear. Me I LOVE sparkle and red so my ideal red carpet look would be including red and silver together. I figure if your going to a show be the showstopper.

Weddington Way

1. No red carpet look is complete without a beautiful dress. Weddington Way’s Social 8130 dress in Burgundy is my go to red carpet gown. With it’s asymmetrical skirt and mesh like fabric accenting the design is to me a true showstopper. I have always loved asymmetrical looks and with the mesh fabric’s rippling effect I would feel like I’m not walking but gliding down the red carpet. Those photographers wouldn’t know what hit them. hahahaha

2. How can you walk a red carpet without shoes? And now it’s time to pull out those sparkles baby! With Carmen Steffens’ “Victoria” style shoes you may just blind someone..with your feet. This line of shoes are very comfortable and have the perfect height when it comes to heels. With just the right amount of sparkle, these heels can go from awards show to after party instantly.

Grandma's jewelry

3. We have shoes, we have a dress now it’s time for some jewels and what better jewelry to wear than a family heirloom. These rhinestones belonged to my grandmother. Even though they are very old they give off a certain elegance that, I find, lacks in some of the jewels you see today. Vintage is the new fashion and I think these particular rhinestones will turn any gown into red carpet glory!

Eyehadow

4. For those countless numbers of photos, a perfect makeup look is required. I say accentuate your best feature and I find mine to be my eyes. With this bold silver and black look the whole outfit ties together. Eye makeup, when chosen and put on right, can bring out every color you have chosen. Black and red always go well together and of course the silver tie giving this look an amazing photographic look. On the red carpet its all about those pictures.

Hair accessory

5. With my hair being shorter sometimes being able to give it a pretty style can be hard but when you add an accessory it’s all good! I chose this red and grayish flower clip to help show of the red in the dress but help tie in the silver.

Crackle nails

6. Last and definitely not least…NAILS!!! Snap, crackle and POP with some crackle nails. The perfect combo of silver with red crackle is the best finisher for my red carpet look. Its simple yet bold making this whole outfit scream “look at me”.

So there it is. My “one of a kind” red carpet look. Red, silver and black you ain’t going back. Work it COVERGIRL! For more info on the dress visit http://www.weddingtonway.com/all/bridesmaid-dresses.
