Bucket List Dreams

I have always loved to write. I guess it is the combination of my love for learning, boundless creativity, and passion for words and how they fit together that got me hooked. One of the first things I put down on paper at an early age was a bucket list. I know that sounds weird to think that as a little girl I was already looking to the future and writing down my long dreamy list of things I just desired to accomplish someday. But it is true. I spent as much time perfecting my penmanship as I did my words.

I have been fortunate that I have been able to check a lot of those items off my list. One of them recently which was to publish a book series. I wrote my first five books in 6 weeks although I have just published one book so far. Ha. I know that sounds crazy but it’s true. I will share that story with you in upcoming post. Anyway, I spent hours upon hours reading and researching my different options for publishing before deciding to self publish through Amazon’s publishing company Create Space. For all those currently working on their first book or thinking about it, I highly recommend Create Space. It is easier than you think and you can do it!

I decided to enter my book into the national “Independent Publisher’s Book Awards” after receiving a random email. I had no idea what an “IPPY” award was but I thought to myself, what the heck why not give it a shot? IPPY rhymes with YIPPY so let’s have fun with it; and guess what? I WON a national bronze medal! As if winning is not enough my book will be featured in the New York book expo at the end of the month. So exciting!

I want to spread the love and celebrate with “It’s a Glam Thing” loyal readers and followers by gifting an autographed book to the first FIVE readers who email me “Yippy for IPPY bronze” along with their full name and mailing address to juleeireland@gmail.com.

Be sure to send me photos of your DIY creations so I can share them across my social media platforms. Enjoy and remember to Dream Big and start checking off that bucket list. xo

“Celebrity Home Decor” On A Budget

Have you ever dreamed of having your home decorated like a celebrity? I can help! Today on Arizona Midday, I shared some of my favorite ideas and budget friendly products to help you achieve a celebrity designer look for your home without breaking the bank! Enjoy.

arizona_midday_1

1. Wall Pops Nuwallpaper- Celebrities like Khloe Kardashian have been known to use expensive designer wallpaper as an artistic accent in a room in their home. Designer wallpaper prices start at around $300 a roll and go up from there which means it can cost thousands of dollars to add wallpaper to just one wall in your home. I love Wall Pops Nuwallpaper because they provide a great way to get a celebrity look for less with their removable wallpaper in an array of eye-catching designs and patterns. Now, you don’t have to pay a fortune to achieve a great look that’s right on trend! Wall Pops Nuwallpaper is removable so if you get tired of the look in a year or two and want a change all you have to do is peel it off and replace it with a new Wall Pop Nuwallpaper design. It’s that simple! They’ve got you covered with patterns and colors to suit everyone’s style and something for every room of your home from the babies nursery, to your living, dining, bedroom and bath and more! The best part is the price of $49.99 a roll. Now we can all afford to decorate our walls just like a celebrity!

2. Downlite- Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez spare no expense when it comes to Hotel style down bedding for their stylish homes. If you’ve ever experienced a luxury hotel and the luxurious comfort and feel of the bedding then you understand why it’s well sought after by the rich and famous to incorporate into their own homes. I love Downlite because their affordable prices allow you to get the
look and feel of celebrity high-end luxury hotel bedding in your home without breaking the bank. Downlite has been manufacturing down and feather bedding, pillows and sateen sheet sets for over thirty years. The quality, look, hand of the fabrics and prices are  amazing! Prices start at $20 and up.

3. White Sheepskin Rugs-White sheepskin rugs and animal skins have always been a chic celebrity look but as an animal lover I can’t bear to use the real thing or to pay the high price tag that they carry! The technology of fabrics and rugs has come a long way as scientists and manufacturers have learned how to assimilate designer looks using synthetic fibers. Now you can find alternative
sheepskin rugs that give you the same celebrity luxurious feel and look without the high price tag at stores such as Home Goods,Target, Amazon.com and more! Prices start at $19.99
4. Accent Lamps and Shades-The three G’s Gold, Glitz and Glam are hallmark traits of every celebrity home that you will find in accent lamps, to upholstered furniture and accessories. Celebrities have the bank account to afford expensive designer looks but let’s face it not all of us can afford to purchase designer accessories for our home. I love JCPenney because they have great designer looks for every room in your home without the high price tag attached. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to create the same celebrity designer looks and ambience in your home. Bring the three G’s into any room in your home with a lamp or lampshade to create a fabulous focal point at a fraction of the price that celebrities spend. I love this chic celebrity Gold lamp and chevron design lampshade look that I found at JcPenney for under $200. It’s Gold, it’s Glitzy and it’s oh so Glam!

5. Monogram Status-What’s not to like about the look of a nice monogram towel, robe or sheet set? Celebrities love to take this age old custom designer look and apply it to their own homes. I think they like to see their name in lights as much as they like to see their initials on white towels or linens. While it’s true that Mongram items such as towels, sheets or accent pillows have always been a luxury and a sign of status in society for the rich and famous it’s also true that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to achieve this status quo for yourself. Since Mongram items are usually custom made it can cost a pretty penny to purchase them for your own home. I have great news! You can find an array of monogram towel sets, accent pillows and more for a fraction of the cost online and at stores such as Target and Amazon.com. Now you can also dress up your home just like a rock star and have money to spare for your next big soriee!

arizona_midday_2DIY on the FLY- Here’s a little celebrity design tip secret-Shhhh…Celebrities often pay their designer thousand’s of dollars to stage their library with beautiful books. What most people don’t know is that their designer has created the look by covering their books with beautiful gift wrap or handmade paper. It’s so simple anyone can do it and it’s a great way to put old wrapping or wallpaper to good use while creating a celebrity look for your own book shelves.

Funky, Trendy Haircolors Right At Your Fingertips

I love experimenting with color and as a hairstylist/makeup artist, color is number one on my list.  Growing up I always wanted to experiment with my hair and my makeup so I would sit at my vanity and go to town.  It wasn’t until recently I was introduced to an awesome book that I wish I had when I was a teen. It is called DIY Dye and I am amazed at the methods in the book.

diy dye book

DIY Dye is a step-by-step instruction manual for getting bright, funky temporary colors at home…the right way.  As a stylist i have seen many at home color jobs gone wrong (I strongly suggest that if you have any questions or if you feel the job is not coming out right please contact your local salon.) With everything from the use of Henna to spray on colors this book has it all. Even DIY color recipes. SOOO COOL!!!!

I am a huge I Love Lucy lover and we all know what Lucy Ricardo is known for right? That’s right her red hair.  Back in the 1950s henna was the go to hair color if you were wanting to create beautiful red tones to your hair.  But henna has improved since then. Now you can get henna in nice rich browns to.

DIY Dye is a fun way to experiment with crazy temporary colors with application techniques.  Writer Loren Lankford shares why she wrote DIY Dye with It’s A Glam Thing:

It’s a Glam Thing asked Loren, “What inspired you to write this fun and creative How-to Book?”

She explained  “Growing up as an alternative kid in a small, conservative town, I was always looking for crafting projects and ways I could my look at home, cheaply. I loved fun hair colors but knew that none of the local salons would be able to do what I wanted. So, I started experimenting with at-home methods! Back then, I didn’t have Google at my disposal, so I made do by asking lots of questions at the beauty supply store and a lot of trial and error. I may have fried my hair a little growing up, but I learned a lot and it was lots of fun.”

Check out DIY Dye and have fun. You can find it at amazon.com/DIY-Dye-Bright-Temporary-Coloring

Great Guide for Learning Camouflage Makeup

Gotcha Covered small makeup bookGotcha Covered by Judith August is a complete step by step guide on how to camouflage skin imperfections correctly with the right makeup and proper technique. It reveals ways to cover every flaw that one can imagine.  I found the book very informative with first hand information accumulated from the authors years of experience as a model as well as others who contributed from their experiences. The guide starts out by showing how to cover typical issues such as bags and dark circles and explains how to apply and layer the concealer. Then it gets more in-depth by showing its readers how to cover more sever problems by presenting proper techniques to mask these dilemmas such as covering veins ,birthmark s bruises, tattoo s and burn scar issues.
Additionally, the guide explores topics such as covering facial problems after plastic surgery.
