I’m always on the hunt for new scents especially when it comes to soaps. Yes! As crazy as that may sound I love a fresh smelling soap that leaves a great scent behind long after I take a bath. How to Wear Sandals for Any Occasion
When you think of sandals, you may only envision wearing them at the beach in summertime. But these shoes come in many styles, and you can wear them throughout the year. From beautiful bohemian-style barefoot sandals to heavy-duty slip-ons, there really is a sandal for every occasion. Read on to learn how to wear sandals all year round.
Spring Garden Party
You may not think of sandals for spring, but you can make it work. If you will be outside on a nice spring day for a picnic in the garden or a park, mud will be your main concern. Choose medium-toned sandals to keep them looking nice even if they get a little dirty. Platform sandals can help keep your feet clean even if you do happen to sink into some mud along the way.
Summer Wedding
When wearing sandals to a formal daytime event, choose a conservative pair. Go with either patent leather uppers or canvas in a subdued color that coordinates with your outfit – leave the flip-flops, gladiators, and sports sandals at home. Choose your heel height based on the location of your event. If you’ll be outdoors walking on grass, keep your heels low and chunky to make walking safer. If you will be indoors or in a paved area, you can go with a higher heel.
Formal Evening Event
While dressing for a formal evening events tends to be conservative, you can break that rule with your footwear. As long as they’re not the kind of sandals specifically designed for comfort, you can wear almost any type that matches your ensemble. Depending on your circle of friends, “Sunday Brunch” could be an ultra-casual affair or an all-out glam fest. But in either case, since you will be among friends, this is an occasion where almost anything goes as far as fashion and footwear. If you will be joining friends at home for pancakes in your pajamas, then feel free to slip on your flip-flops or any other comfy sandal, as long as they are clean and in reasonably good condition. For brunch at a restaurant, you can still keep your footwear comfy and casual.
Outdoor Winter Festival
Sandals in the snow? It can be done. Reach for those heavy-duty slip-on sandals again. You need a pair with a good tread to prevent you from slipping on the ice, a reasonably deep footbed to help keep your feet dry, and adjustable straps to help accommodate a pair or two of thick socks to keep your feet warm. You probably shouldn’t be jumping into snowbanks in your sandals, but you can navigate shoveled sidewalks just fine.
So as you can see, sandals aren’t just for summer days at the beach, although that is a great opportunity to break out your favorite casual pair. Sandals can be worn for formal events as long as they are conservative in color, and they can carry you through the fall and winter provided you’ve got a heavy-duty pair that can accommodate some warm socks. So mix up your footwear choices and wear a pair of sandals to your next big social event.

Post Election Stress Disorder (P.E.S.D) 5 Signs You Have It and What to Do
Regardless of whom you voted for in the 2016 Presidential election, there is one thing we all can agree on. It was stressful! For the past year people have been heated on social media, blocking and un-friending those on “the other side.” Families have been arguing. Spouses have been at odds. Now that the election is over, one side will feel the stress associated with the loss. We spoke with Dr. Sanam Hafeez, NYC based licensed clinical psychologist, teaching faculty member at the prestigious Columbia University Teacher’s College and the founder and Clinical Director of Comprehensive Consultation Psychological Services, who shares the signs of Post Election Stress Disorder and what to do about it.
- Your stomach is in knots!
According to Dr. Hafeez, stressing out about the future of our country can certainly manifest in physical discomfort. When you ruminate about the worst-case scenario it can lead to stomach tension, nausea and lack of appetite. She advises to take a break from news coverage and discussing the election results. “You want to be informed but YOU want to be in control of the news you are seeking out. Select one media outlet that you want to get your news from. Check in the morning and then focus on what you have to do that day.”
- You can’t focus!
Your mind wanders and you keep worrying about the next 4 years of your life. These wandering thoughts lead to a lack of focus. Dr. Hafeez explains that when we are fixated on a thought and are in a state of worry, it is difficult to give full attention to anything else. Her advice, “go for a 30 minute walk, exercise, meditate by lying still focusing on your breath, color in a coloring book or get a ball and have a catch. You want to choose tasks that are repetitive, pleasurable, calming and don’t require a lot of focus.”
- You can’t sleep!
You’re tossing and turning and can’t seem to get to that deep level of sleep. “This is a true sign of anxiety and stress,” flags Dr. Hafeez. Sleep is when our bodies turn over cells, fight off illness and are fully relaxed. When stress disturbs sleep for a prolonged period of time, it can lead to a slew of illnesses including, depression and mental illness, heart disease, kidney disease and diabetes. “Avoid watching the news before bed as it can evoke worry and negative thoughts. Get into the practice of writing down all the things you appreciated that day so you calm down and drift off on a positive note.”
- You’re snippy with everyone!
You feel on edge and angry. Anything can set you off. Your cell phone doesn’t work and you throw it across the room. You’re screaming in traffic. You’re irritable at work and prefer the door to your office closed so you can avoid everyone. Dr. Hafeez explains that it is normal to have a short fuse when stressed. Unfortunately the people we love the most get the fallout from our stress. “Put yourself in a ‘time out.’ Notice what is setting you off and avoid it for a day or two. Book a spa massage, take a long bath, pamper yourself, cash in on some well needed ‘me time.’ Within hours your mood will shift, “offers Dr. Hafeez.
- You’re not in the mood for love.
When stressed it’s common for sexual desire to wane. When your mind is on other things the last thing you want to do is get romantic. According to Dr. Hafeez starting off with sensual touch is calming. “Simply being in the bed holding hands breathing for 2 minutes can work wonders. Don’t rule out sex, ease into it. Avoiding sex only adds another thing to be stressed about and sex is a stress reliever. You need those feel good brain chemicals to beat the stress,” she reminds us.
So try not to be bummed out and stressed out if your candidate didn’t nab the presidency. Things could be far worse. YOU could be President of the United States. Now THAT is something to be stressed about.

GET THE LOOK: CHRISSY TEIGEN WITH LAURA POLKO
- 1.Part hair in the middle and smooth out using a Mason Pearson brush. Use a hair primer to smooth out the blowout and keep hair straight.
- 2.Collect the hair into a very sleek low ponytail. Laura sprayed hairspray close to the hairline to remove any small flyaways, before securing with a scunci black hair tie.
- 3.Once hair was secure in a ponytail, she knotted a piece of long black elastic cord (a few feet long), that she purchased from a fabric store, which she anchored to the scunci hair tie.
- 4.Next, she continuously wrapped the long cord tightly from top to bottom of the ponytail to add texture. There is no rhyme or reason, make it as close or as far apart as you want.
- 5.Then, secure with another black scunci hair tie and anchor and loop hair through to cause a flip/loop at the bottom.
- 6.Lastly, for any fringe or flyaways on the sides, crisscross scunci bobby pins (about 8) on with side behind the ear for added detail.
