proTENAJ styleINFLECTION Body & Shine Foam: Your Answer for Awesome Hair

Everywhere I look it seems “big hair” is making a huge comeback. I can remember hearing stories from my mom about how beehives, and the “ratting” style were the look to have. I am sure that nowadays we women would not want to style our hair into something called the beehive, but we are definitely looking for ways to add body to our hair. Every product I have used to add body has never done what it says it should do. Many leave my hair feeling stiff, looking dull and that dreaded frizz always pops up every time I walk outside.

It was not until recently that I found a product that not only adds life to my dull hair, but adds incredible shine, is humidity resistant, and does not make my hair feel stiff. It is the proTENAJ styleINFLECTION Body & Shine Foam. This amazing, and unique, product starts off as a gel and emulsifies into a mousse when dispensed into your hand and can be used in some very creative ways. I have never been the kind of person who likes to follow directions (lol) so when I get a product to try, I always try something different than what it says I SHOULD do. How else can you experiment if you don’t think outside the box right?

Having naturally curly hair, I always dry my hair with a diffuser. I applied a dime size amount (a little goes a long way) to my hand and let it emulsify to the mousse. Then I applied it to wet hair being sure to get it underneath the root. Then I did my usual blow dry routine just making sure I activated it the most at the root. Now when I diffused my hair to get my curls to activate, I used to get curls that looked like I had stuck them in a can of hairspray because they stick together, With the Body & Shine Foam you will never have stiff, sticky hair that stays in one spot. You can place the hair anywhere you want it to be.

Although one day I decided not to curl my hair but going for a sleeker, smoother look. After washing and towel drying my hair I applied the Body & Shine Foam in my hair, just like when I diffused it, and round brushed my hair to smooth out the curl. The minute I activated the hair with heat and the round brush, I swear I had never seen that much shine in my hair EVER. I was amazed at how soft, and shiny my hair looked and felt. I almost didn’t recognize my hair. The next thing I had to test was the humidity resistance. When I blow my hair out straight that seems to be the time I get the most frizz. But it did stand up to that test. Even when I was in Key West, which is even further south, my hair lasted all day with no frizzJ. I was soooooo happy I can’t even begin to tell you how shocked I was.

That day I round brushed my hair I had gotten such an amazing style out of it that the next day I didn’t feel like washing my hair and trying for it again. So this is where this unique product showed that it is truly amazing. I still had the style intact from the day before but having slept on it the body was gone. Not being one to freak out over something like that, I grabbed the proTENAJ styleINFLECTION Body & Shine Foam and pumped a very little amount into my hands. I applied it to my previously styled hair and took my hair dryer to the areas I had applied it too. My hair was back in the style I had the previous day and looked like I had spent all day doing it. I was, again, sold on the proTENAJ products. Goin’ Tango Mango on Wicked Tuna!

“The Clothes Make the Man,” is an old well worn adage – meaning basically that a man is judged by the quality of his suit, his clothing and his general presentation. Interestingly, The Clothes Make the Man is a short comedic film made in 1915 featuring Oliver Hardy and starring Raymond McKee. You should check it out for a laugh. Guys are easy though – all they need is a shirt and pants, and no offense, but their style doesn’t change from season to season the way that ours do – and honestly, they don’t even really change much from year to year.

Women get a little more leeway – because women are allowed to. That makes life as a well dressed woman a fun and entertaining venture. Us girls can pair a $10 shirt from Marshalls with a $350 Laboutin Sandal (I never pay a lot for shoes but people do…) and a $25 skirt from The Gap, add some jewelry and Voila – we are fabu. Absolutely Fabu.

Every once in a while a piece enters your wardrobe to be revered and possibly to stay in the closet long past its due. That type of people should be worn a lot…don’t be stupid and let it sit in your closet because it’s too special, because it WILL go out of style. It will even will wear out anyway.

Last summer I came upon a dress that falls into this unique category. Then recently I came upon a similar dress and realized – people need to know about this kind of dress. It’s basically a cotton tiered dress that is so comfortable, that no matter how fat, skinny, dumpy or frumpy you feel, you can throw this cotton-tiered number on and crowds literally wane a path for you when you pass by.

0-83

The first dress is by TANGO MANGO came to me in Newport, Rhode Island where I was vacationing last summer (we go there every year and stay on a tiny island in the bay which is heaven). I sit at the pool with highly stylish fellow blogger Liz Braca-Vachon (we met there actually about six years ago) and vegetate in the sun with wine, cheese and crackers while the kids swim in the pool. Occasionally we venture over the long bridge to Newport and begrudgingly have to change out of our swimsuits, put on make-up (maybe), minimal jewelry and possibly do our hair.  Last summer we went to our fave row of stores which is right across from the Brick Alley Pub on Thames Street (conveniently).

Somehow I found myself trying on this multi-colored dress that comes just above the knee.  On the rack it looked a but ‘off’ in terms of my own personal style – too way out there, and I could not imagine myself wearing it.  I ended up buying the one that Liz and the store clerk said looked best on me which was a teal green (which I had never worn up until that point). It has a tie-dyed effect.  Skeptically, I tried it on again and then the clerk threw me this incredible sash-y ish white scarf and voila – it was like, I had to have the dress and the scarf.  The dress was $100 – a little over my usual cotton dress budget — but three days later I wore it to Gloucester to the Blue Fin Tuna Blowout with one of my clients. They were filming WICKED TUNA there and I ended up in a shot on camera in the TV series with my FABU- crazy awesome green mermaid dress. In that incredible dress, I appear in minute 44-45 of the WICKED TUNA from Feb 12, 2013 episode if you are ever watching it – I’m the girl with the long blond hair and the mermaid dress standing on the dock in the background after Ralph and Tyler’s on dock brawl.

0-84

Last week, I visited my favorite new haunt SASSY in Westwood, Massachusetts on Route 109 – it’s tucked away in a tiny plaza just toward the Dover/Medfield side of town. I have been in there several times and the other day I noticed a very similar dress on the racks by Camelia – again, something I wasn’t planning to try on until I started telling the store owner about my Tango Mango dress. The owner confessed that this striped black and grey long cotton dress looked incredible on everyone who tried it on, and that she was disappointed this year when it only came in a longer style – because she said she had to order it four times last summer in the shorter version. So, of course, I tried it on.

Well, you know what happened after that……the rest is history. I’ll be wearing this constrating ruffling grey and black maxi and the mermaid dress in Newport next week, and everywhere else I go until the summer sun runs into chilly Fall.

And a note to the dress-makers – I highly recommend that these dress styles be brought back again next summer! In the meantime, for all of you ladies who own one of these tiered numbers, wear the heck out of it this summer, and be sure to hang onto it for next summer as well!

Wet n’ Wild Mascara means Gorgeous Lashes

0-50

There are so many brands of make-up with prices ranging from expensive to dirt-cheap. I have a theory….a make-up product is a make-up product. It doesn’t matter what brand it is, how much it cost, who has it…. If it works well then it is a great product. Wet n’ Wild’s Megaimpact Mascara has proved my theory. Megaimpact lengthens and thickens my lashes to make my eyelashes longer and fuller then ever.  On top of that, the mascara is formulated with Argan Oil to promote healthy and gorgeous lashes. The best part is that it is under ten dollar and it works better then a mascara that I spent 25 dollars on! But most importantly it works great, the price is just a plus!

Helmut Lange at NYC Fashion Week

Helmut Lang’s Spring/Summer 2014 runway show last Friday was the epitome of cool. Helping to bring the brand’s inspiration to life was Lead Stylist Paul Hanlon for UNITE Hair. “The look was inspired by Helmut Lang’s designs, which were a nod back to the 90’s. I wanted the hair to have strong, clean lines to balance the baggier clothes. It is a bit masculine, but chic, and refined.”

To Get The Look:

1.      Prep the hair with the UNITE 7Seconds Condition ($26.25), which contains a thermal protector. Then use a blow dryer and a paddle brush to achieve pin-straight locks.. 2.      Next, apply UNITE Session Whip ($25), which really was the star product for this look. This weightless mousse gives the hair girth, but not hold (like a gel might). For best use, apply the mousse liberally from roots to ends and continue to blow dry the product into the hair until it is completely dry. 3.      To create the distinct part, use a rattail comb to perfectly section off the hair to the side, continuing to blow dry the hair straight down. 4.      Next take 2-inch sections of hair and spray the roots of each one with the UNITE Max Control Hairspray ($27.50). As with the previous steps, continue to use a blow dryer to set the hair. 5.      To complete this look, pull the hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck and secure with an elastic. Then wrap a black leather hair accessory (Hanlon used one designed by Helmut Lang). 6.      For a finishing touch, pull out some of the baby hairs for an effortless, natural look.

“The idea for the Helmut Lang Show was to create a very controlled look by slicking the hair down and around the face, but not making it look crunchy or too shiny. We used products that would control the hair, but not make it too hard”, explains Hanlon.  http://www.uniteeurotherapy.com/
