DIY on a Dime

There are a few things that I am passionate about as a designer, lighting, saving more than a dime, and using my hands to get really creative.  I love this simple inexpensive way to repurpose and bring new light to your room by adding trim to a lampshade.  You can find basic shapes and sizes of lampshades at local craft stores such as Joanne Fabrics or at popular retail store chains such as Target and Walmart or you can simply take your current lampshade and embellish it.

When you have your desired lampshade that fits your lamp all you have to do is find a simple trim from a fabric store that has the right pop of color, texture and style that strikes your fancy.  Be sure to take your lampshade with you when you go to select your trim so that you can lay it against your shade to measure the correct yardage.  You don’t want to end up short! If you don’t have basic sewing skills the shop clerks are always willing to help out so don’t be afraid to ask for assistance.  Now that you have your trim you are ready to go! I found this no sew sample lampshade on Pinterest via hercampus.com.  I wanted to share it with you because the photos are simple to follow step by step and it demonstrates just how easy this project really is!

Remember, you don’t have to be an expert seamstress to create a beautiful, inviting lampshade that fits your unique style and personality. All you need is a lampshade, trim and a hot glue gun with some of your own creative juice!  Have fun with it and please share your creations with me so that I can post and share them on my all of my social media platforms. I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Get the Golden Globes look of Sienna Miller

The red carpet of film and television’s biggest night might be over, but we’ll continue admiring all the beautiful looks for a long time to come! Among them was the gorgeous Sienna Miller, star of not one, but two, nominated films this year.

The actress arrived in a plunging beaded Miu Miu gown and sported an effortlessly textured bob styled by Suave Professionals Celebrity Stylist Jenny Cho.

According to Jenny, “I wanted to create a beautiful, side-swept, textured look on Sienna to play against her stunning beaded dress and to keep everything fresh and effortless. “

Jenny shares her exclusive tips on how to recreate this look using some of her favorite products:

· Begin by making a deep side part on towel dried-hair and mist Suave Professionals Luxe Style Infusion Volumizing Weightless Blow Dry Spray all over. Blow dry hair with a paddle brush.

· Then create loose waves by using a medium size curling iron on small sections of hair, and repeating this throughout the entire head.

· Apply Suave Professionals Refresh & Revive Dry Shampoo and shake out the hair for movement, and to break up the waves so it looks natural.

· Spray hair from mid-shaft to ends with Suave Professionals Natural Infusion Moisturizing Oil Spray to add a little shine back into the hair, and then lock in the look with Suave Professionals Luxe Style Infusion Volumizing Plump Hold Hairspray.

Golden Globes Makeup Get the Look-Jenna Dewan Tatum

unnamed-6

Celebrity makeup artist, Jake Bailey, gave Jenna Dewan Tatum a glowing, natural look to blend into the palette of her stunning lemon chiffon dress. Bailey wanted to give Tatum a golden, neutral look that wouldn’t compete with her gown.

Bailey started by prepping the skin with the Dior Capture Totale Multi-Perfection Crème.

He applied the Pür Minerals Air Perfection CC Cushion Compact Foundation in Medium for a flawless finish, allowing a natural glow to come through. He then put the Pür Minerals Chateau Cheeks Cream Blush in Coy followed by a small amount of Nars Loose Powder in Beach. Bailey also added Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Powder in Candlelight on the bridge of her nose, cheekbones and brow bones to add depth to her natural glow.

Next, Bailey wanted to use a plum shadow to make the green in her eyes pop. He used several shades from the Pür Minerals Soul Mattes Eye Shadow Palette to apply the eggplant shade on the lid and the taupe shade around the edges to create that smokey, sultry look.

“I then used the Pür Minerals Eye Defining Pencil in Onyx along the lash line to really define her eyes,” says Bailey. He applied the Troy Surratt Brow Pencil and Anastasia Brow Gel on her brows and finished with a few coats of the Pür Minerals Big Look Waterproof Mascara on the lashes.

Lastly, Bailey applied the LaMer Lip Balm as a base to the lips, followed by the Pür Minerals Chateau de Vine Mineral Lipstick in Georgia Peach and a pop of the Chateau Lip Gloss in Scandalous.

“It Takes a Team to Build a Dream”

The new year has officially begun and I am already so excited for what’s to come! So many people have already contributed to making the start of this new year productive and enjoyable. It takes a team it really does and I couldn’t be more thankful for the team that surrounds me and pushes me everyday. This so perfectly goes with the theme of my new movie “Spare Parts,” which emphasizes that “It takes a team to build a dream.” That is the truth! The “Spare Parts” premiere last Thursday was absolutely wonderful! This true story came to life on the big screen and showed people how powerful the story that came from a “Wired” Magazine article really is. The movie contains every emotion, you’ll catch yourself laughing, on the edge of your seat, maybe even shedding a tear—the story captures it all. It brings to light not just a story about Latinos, but a story about what it means to be an individual with struggles. It is a moving and fun piece of work and I am very honored to be a part of it. Thank you to my insanely talented fellow actors, the director Sean McNamara, the writer of the screenplay, Elissa Matsueda, the wonderful team of producers; thank you to everyone involved! I hope you guys will all go check out this wonderful story on Friday January 16th and tell all your friends about it! And of course, don’t forget to let me know what you think!

I would love to thank Mason for my lovely white dress, Jeffrey Campbell for my killer red shoes, Sheree Fletcher for my stunning jewelry,  Shibue Couture for my secret necessities on the red carpet, and Corina Kramer for my hair and makeup look! You all made my red carpet look come together and made me feel like a princess so thank you!

This is just the start, keep your eyes out for some exciting news to come. And as always, feel free to message/tweet/facebook me any questions or topics you’d love for me to blog about! Much love, go see “SPARE PARTS” on Friday!

Facial exercises on Studio 10

Just like the rest of our body our face has muscles but we tend to neglect them. We must take proper care of our facial muscles. It’s a natural way to make your face look younger by firming muscles and reducing wrinkles. With these simple 5 minute facial exercises we can tighten and tone the muscles in our skin and get a “face lift” the natural way.

Watch video here: http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid2810881994001?bckey=AQ~~,AAAACCtbLTE~,Euz3dgEqY7EqQxp6Hz5oG9gP7H7J4_ET&bctid=3984171428001

For your basic facial exercises. Be sure skin is completely cleansed and free of all moisturizers, oils, etc. Also be sure hands are cleansed and sanitized as well. Put your hair out of your face and be sure to be sitting in a comfortable place and position. (please note: be sure not to overdo any of the movements and do them in ways that are comfortable to you)

Step 1- Using your index and thumb pick up little folds of skin gently pinching as you work your way up. Start around the jaw line into the cheeks and up towards the ears. This will help stimulate circulation in your face. Continue this for 1 minute.

Step 2- Time to get a little “screwed up”. Scrunch your face like you are squinting. Hold for 3 seconds and slowly release. Repeat 3 times. This will work areas such as your cheeks and area around your eyes that do not usually get exercised.

Step 3- With a closed mouth pretend to “chew”. Once in one direction for 30 seconds then in the opposite direction for the other 30. This will exercise the chin, & jaw. Do not overdo the movement.

Step 4- Another exercise for the jaw. Stick out your tongue and try to touch your nose. Dont force it. Hold for about 10-15 seconds and release. Repeat 3 times.

Step 5- Just like the “chewing” exercise except we are going to “brush” our teeth with our tongue. Close your mouth and continue movement for 1 minute. This is great for cheeks and chin.

Do these facial exercises 3-4 times a week and you will start noticing a difference very soon.
