Shifting to Natural Hair Care? Here’s What to Expect

Natural hair products are growing in popularity in recent years. Although it is not a trend that is limited only to hair care, it seems “organic” and “natural” are the buzzwords of today.  You attach them to any brand to appeal to a specific demographic. 

But it is not merely your perception that more and more people are buying Natural Hair Care products. The numbers could not be denied. 

For instance, estimates revealed that the organic care market, which includes hair care, skincare, and cosmetics, is projected to reach $25 billion by 2025. The industry was worth $13.3 billion in 2018 but has a compound annual growth rate of 9.4%.

What to Expect When You Go Natural

Those who are used to using harsh synthetic chemicals on their shampoos, however, will experience a bit of a culture shock when they switch to Natural Hair Care.

For one, you can expect to find fewer suds and foam in natural shampoo products. In synthetic products, you will find a compound called sodium lauryl sulfate, a known surfactant that is also found in toothpaste. Another similar compound you will see is sodium laureth sulfate. But the problem is that surfactants also pose some health risks. 

Natural Hair Care products have chucked these synthetic chemicals, which also means less lather.

Another thing to expect is that your hair may feel heavier, and it seems to have more oil than usual. But it is natural, especially if your hair and scalp are still adjusting to the new product. It can build up on your pores and prevent hair growth. It is the reason why your hair feels thicker and fuller when you make the switch to Natural Hair Care. 

When you take out silicone from your hair care regimen, you will notice that your hair feels sticky or matted. Do not worry. It is the natural process of eliminating silicone from your hair. It will only last for a short time, depending on the buildup of wax on your hair.

Most natural hair care manufacturers recommend that you shampoo twice, at least during the initial stages of the transition. For those who want more lather out of their shampoos, this would be the method they should follow. First, they put the product on their hair and rinse thoroughly. Then they repeat the process the second time, where they will notice more suds. Wash all the residues out since they will weigh down your hair.

The crucial thing is to commit to the transition. Some people give up in the first few days without giving it a chance. You must remember that you have been using these harsh chemicals on your hair all your life. The natural hair care products are trying to undo the harm and allowing your hair to recover, so you must give it a few days.
