Spring, a time for rebirth with ABC Home

Spring….a time for rebirth, renewal and regrowth….we see it in nature and we also see it in ourselves. It is a time when we want to move more, we feel our senses come alive to the sights, sounds and smells of the season. We feel lighter, rediscover ourselves and we too like the flowers about to bud, reconnect with the spirit within. We awaken from winter’s hibernation and appreciate the beauty of the world around us.

The beauty is not just in the outside world, it is in our own selves as well. “All beings are flowers blossoming  in a blossoming universe” Soen Nakagawa. It was fitting then, on one of the first sunny, warm days in NYC that ABC Home, known for helping discover a world of inspiration and beauty for the home, turned the focus into finding a day to find our home within; a day to rediscover and treasure your unique beauty, by incorporating the beauty, wellness and wisdom of the season.

The day started off in Deepak Homebase , which is magical in its own right. It sets up a serene, tranquil and accepting environment which would be the backdrop for a day of bliss, self love and connection; a day of engaging with our greatest eco-brands and their founders; a day to set your intention in learning from masters.

The day started with insightful talks on astrology, yoga, lifestyle medicine, food, creating a peaceful economy and getting in touch with your intuition.  We learned from Spiritual Astrologer Demitra Vassiliadis that this spring the planets are lining up in order to get us to return to the deepest sense of value, what we love about ourselves and may have forgotten along the way. All of the topics discussed reinforced the importance of self love, acceptance and embracing your own uniqueness. To be united with the beauty we see.

The afternoon was a session for the senses. Flowering arranging with ABC Bloom, smudging with Incausa, aromatherapy with Palermo Body and Rahua. You can get it online at Bed Bath & Beyond, or online at Lowes.com  and at Homedepot.com . Use the Hang-O-Matic to hang it straight the first time. You won’t need to mess up the wall with extra nail holes. Even though the “mistake” holes can sometimes be hidden, it drives me crazy knowing they are there!

Manic Panic will donate $1 to Pets Alive

One of the most used phrases is – “Animals are a man’s best friend.” As much as truth as this saying holds, 15 million warm-blooded animals worldwide are tortured and beaten daily. How is it that someone could harm some of the most compassionate, kind and affectionate animals who are our “best friends?”

Its A Glam Thing friend, international supermodel and actress, Eugenia Kuzmina just finished taping a lead role in a hopeful new comedy pilot, Perfect. Kuzmina stars as supermodel Alanna Rodchenko who must endure the trials and tribulations of everyday life. The series chronicles her up down career set against the backdrop of a ruthless Hollywood. Episodes will tackle Alanna’s experiences as a single and dating mother, ex-wife, and the many dysfunctional people she meets on a daily basis.

Written, directed and produced by Jerry Corley (Stretch), other producers include Anthony Turk (Crazy World), Sandra J. Payne (Life With Kat & McKay) and Kuzmina. The pilot also stars Marie Del Marco (Life With Kat & McKay), Shaka Smith (Fit Club), Corley and Turk. The pilot episode was produced under a SAG-AFTRA contract.

Kuzmina has graced the covers and pages of countless magazines world-wide including GQ, Vogue, Marie Claire and Shape. She has starred in campaigns for Cartier, Neiman Marcus, Buffalo Jeans, Replay Jeans, Lancaster Cosmetics and others. She was discovered by a fashion designer in Russia as a child and soon found herself walking the runways of Paris, Tokyo, New York and other major cities. Kuzmina is currently focusing on pursuing work as an actress in film and television.

Get a “Tied & Tight” at home workout with Elizabeth, Jack & Megan

1. Place the band around ankles and tie make sure it is nice and taunt. Keep legs apart and

step to the left keeping band taunt. Repeat for a count of 5 on the the fourth step lift left leg and

pulse for count of 5. Take step to right keeping band taunt. Repeat for a count of 5 and on the

5th step rise your right leg and pulse for 5.

2. Place band in the arch of right foot and press back for a count of ten. Switch legs and

repeat.

3. Place band just above the knees. Squat and step left for a count of 5. Stand tall. Get back in

squat position and step to right for a count of 5, stand tall.

Do each exercise once through. Repeat for 3 – 5 sets.

Open with flair:

“I Love wearing my cashmere overcoat thrown around my shoulders. To me, it connotes strength and the idea that you can take care of yourself. If you have good posture, give it a try. Don’t just arrive – make an entrance.”

Look sharp:

“Even in grade school in the 1940s, I wore a tie and knickers. Dressing was more formal then, but it wasn’t that formal. I wanted to stand out. I didn’t want to match someone’s negative stereotype of who I was supposed to be. Today when I’m dressing casually, I’ll wear a turtleneck with a sport coat, or a suit but no tie. I like my appearance to reflect a sense of order.”

Sole mates:

“I have more than 40 pairs of shoes: wing tips, two-tone spectators, loafers. You’d be surprised how many conversations get started over footwear.”

Good advice:

“For the cover of my book, I wore bluish pants and a blue sweater. I had picked out a contrasting jacket, but my wife, Carolyn, insisted I wear a blue sport coat instead. She was adamant. And I can see now that she was right.”
