Butterfly Studio Salon Hairstyles

Let your hair be your best accessory this holiday season with statement making hairstyles for both guys and girls from Butterfly Studio Salon stylists, Dana Tizzio and Jason J. Dougherty.

Dana Tizzio’s “Pretty Ponytail”

Dana Tizzio’s “Pretty Ponytail”

Upgrade a worn ponytail from day to night by taking out that pony and shaking it as hard as you can just to create some body.

 1.       Grab your purse-size dry texturizing spray  like Philip B. Russian Amber Imperial Insta-Thick, $20, and apply through entire head, roots to tips.

2.       Shake hair out, using your hands as well to break up, lift, and activate your spray.

3.       Pull hair back, taking one section at a time to create a super textured look (versus slicked back and smooth).

4.       Secure above or at the curve of the head with a hair tie (the positioning makes it more playful.)

5.       Gently pull on the hair to create height and adjust the look.

6.       Wrap a small section of hair around the base of the pony and tuck for a messy, sexy ponytail or add a metallic pony cuff for a chic way to accessorize the look.

Dana Tizzio’s “10 Minute (No brush) Updo Braid”

Dana Tizzio’s “10 Minute (No brush) UpdoBraid”

This DIY ‘do will take you from a bad hair moment or a long day at the office to black tie-chic without any hot tools or hair prep. Not even a hairbrush is required! All you’ll need is a few pins, hair ties, and a mini/travel-sized version of your favorite dry shampoo/texturizing spray.

  1. Section 1/4 hair from side part to ear, and add Philip B. Russian Amber Imperial Insta-Thick, $20 for volume.
  2. Start braid at part, focusing braid at front of forehead, and secure end with elastic.
  3. Spritz more Insta-thick spray throughout hair to enhance texture for easier styling.
  4. Without brushing, twist all of hair to the side of braid and secure with elastic, creating a ponytail.
  5. Braid ponytail, including front braid, and secure end with elastic. (It does not need to be tight)
  6. Hold one piece of braid at the end with one hand. With the other hand, push entire braid upward from the bottom with your fingers to create a rouging effect.
  7. Wrap braid to create a bun or knot shape, nestled on one side of your head for the best look. You want your style to be seen!
  8. Secure with bobby pins, and use the hair pins to manage any loose ends.
  9. Loosen the front of the braid and work your way back. Widen from the start of the braid for an effect that beautifully frames your face by pulling apart gently on each section. This will create a softer and more romantic, evening-ready braided look.

Jason J. Dougherty’s “Quick Men’s Style”

Jason J. Dougherty’s “Quick Men’s Style”

For a sophisticated style or a Don Draper-inspired look, try this relaxed yet polished look which has enough body to make a statement while staying clean cut enough for the office.

  1. Start with clean, just washed hair and comb through before applying product.
  2. Using a quarter-sized amount of Philip B Lovin’ Pomade,$26, emulsify using your hands and apply product throughout hair.
  3. With a fine tooth comb, comb through front half of hair, while blow drying on a low setting. Blow dry back half of hair while simply running fingers through.
  4. Use texturizing spray such as Philip B. Russian Amber Imperial Insta-Thick, $20 to roots at the front for a boost. Your style will thank you later. Sculpt hair with hands.
  5. Finish with a medium (more flexible) hairspray like Philip B Jet Set Precision Control Hair Spray, $30, throughout for extra shine and hold.

How to Look Glam at Work

We’ve all known that one colleague who breezes into the office looking utterly fabulous every day, here’s how to steal her style & do it your way!

At some point in our working lives most of us will have had “that colleague”. Every morning she breezes into the office looking ridiculously fabulous in her own unique way, seemingly without even trying – at 9AM! How do they do it? Is their wardrobe an endless world of work-appropriate gorgeousness?

If you’re bored of button up blouses and sensible work trousers, it’s time to branch out and discover “that colleague’s” workplace styling secrets. There’s no need for a huge budget or a massive wardrobe, in fact a few key pieces and a fresh approach to “professional dressing” are all you could need to get a little more glam at work. Why not start with our top tips…

unnamed-26

Channel a Trend: Keeping abreast of current trends will help your work wardrobe feel more contemporary and cutting-edge. But don’t jump on every fashionable bandwagon around. Instead, select a style you like which can easily be incorporated into your work wardrobe. Picking out each season’s key prints, tones or textures can be a great way to do this. For example, in SS15, bold geometric stripes are proving to be a huge trend. Team them with your work wear for an instant fashion upgrade.

unnamed-24Invest in Statement Shoes: Whether your role requires a more professional palette or doesn’t have a strict dress code, statement shoes are a great way to add a quick and easy pop of colour or charm to work outfits. Choose a bright colour pop and follow through with a matching lipstick, or splash out on a pair you love with quirky appeal to add glamour and personality to your work look.

  1. unnamed-23

Try a Colour Pop: Little freshens up an outfit or brightens up a drab workday like a cheerful burst of colour. To add a little extra glam to your work ensembles, choose “just one item” which really pops, whether that’s a sky blue blazer or a sunny yellow a line skirt, then team it with a more neutral palette to add a splash of colour without looking like a crazy rainbow.

unnamed-22

Splash Out with Your Silhouette: Who says workwear has to be boring? We’re not all part of the sausage machine, you know! The combination of a blazer with a pencil skirt or sensible trousers creates a really predictable silhouette without much personality. Try playing around with the proportions of your work wear to make a stylish change. From full bodied, A-line skirts and high waisted culottes, to cropped tops and oversized shirts, there are lots of chic ways to mix up your work look to create a more contemporary, glamorous style.
unnamed-21Revamp Your Accessories Collection: Updating your accessories can have a huge impact on your workday glamour quotient! Classic pieces you can wear time and time again are great to have in your collection, but when you want to update your workplace look, indulging in some of fashion’s flightier (but super fun) jewellery and accessory trends will help bring your look bang up to date. This season it’s all about aquatic inspired charms (a la Valentino SS15), solid cuffs and chokers (see: Balmain) and mixed natural materials (from raw wood to feathers).

Miranda Lambert at CMA’s

 Miranda Lambert at CMA's

Miranda Lambert at CMA’s

Last night, CMA Award Winner Miranda Lambert rocked the red carpet in a gorgeous, long black dress with a funky pop of pink color in her traditionally blonde hair. For her performance, she donned rocker-chic waves. Here’s how to recreate Miranda’s CMA hairstyles, as told by her mane man, PRO Beauty Tools Celebrity Hairstylist Johnny Lavoy.

Johnny Lavoy on Miranda’s red carpet look: “I wanted to go with something sleek and sexy, with a pop pink for a little excitement. To get Miranda’s red carpet look, I first dipped the tips of her hair in pastel pink hair dye. Next, I applied a volumizer and blew out her hair with the PRO Beauty Tools Professional 1875 W IONIC AC Motor Dryer using a large round brush. To get a sleek polished look, I first created a strong side part. Then, I used the PRO Beauty Tools® 1” Professional Ceramic Shine Digital Straightener to really smooth out her hair. Lastly, I used hairspray to hold the style.”

Johnny Lavoy on Miranda’s performance look: “For Miranda’s performance look, I wanted to give her hair a little more movement. I started by using a beach spray for a little texture, then, I scrunched her hair while drying it with the PRO Beauty Tools Professional 1875 W IONIC AC Motor.  I love this dryer because of its quick dryer power, especially backstage when I’m only given a minute for a quick hair change! Then, I used two different sized PRO Beauty Tools Professional Gold Curling Irons to add additional texture. I alternated using the 1” and the 1 ¼” irons, which helped me created the perfect rock and roll, rocker-chic waves. Finally, I used hairspray to hold the look.”

Apothederm Skin Care supports sustainability & animal well-being

Apothederm Donates Tradeshow Furniture to Heaven Can Wait Animal Society

Heaven can wait animal society
Helix BioMedix, Inc. (HXBM.PK), a dermatology biotech focusing on peptide research and dedicated to bringing to consumers the latest in skin care science with their Apothederm® line of products, is proud to announce their donation to Heaven Can Wait Animal Society (https://www.hcws.org/).

In a new program emphasizing lowering the company’s carbon foot print and promoting sustainability by repurposing items, furnishings were purchased locally for the Apothederm exhibit at the International Spa Association (ISPA), held October 19th -21st in Las Vegas, NV. The company also sought out a local non-profit for donation of the gently used furniture and decor after the tradeshow to help reduce shipping fuel consumption. In supporting Apothederm’s commitment to animal health and well-being, Heaven Can Wait Animal Society was selected based on their philosophy of caring for unwanted dogs and cats until they can find new homes for them and for promoting spaying and neutering to help with animal overpopulation.

Heaven Can Wait regularly holds garage sales to sell donated books, furniture, electronics, jewelry and home decor in an effort to help provide funding for their organization’s needs. Following the
tradeshow the company delivered the furniture to Heaven Can Wait for them to use on site and in their yard sales fundraising efforts.

“We are committed to finding creative ways of reducing our impact on the environment. This really was a very positive experience for us – we made a high impact impression at ISPA and our donation helps the Heaven Can Wait Animal Society with the amazing work they are doing for the animal community in Las Vegas,” said Robin Carmichael, President & COO of Helix BioMedix, Inc.

Heaven Can Wait Animal Society yard sales take place at 6360 Annie Oakley Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89120  every Friday and Saturday from 9am to 2pm. For more information, please email garagesales@hcws.org.

About Heaven Can Wait Animal Society

Heaven Can Wait Animal Society, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) animal humane organization, was formed in 2000 by a group of 5 concerned citizens with the idea of building a beautiful 20 acre sanctuary to house all of the unwanted animals in our community. In the meantime, though, animals were and still are dying at rate of around 30,000 per year in our local shelters with even more just dying in the streets. Therefore, we decided to refocus our efforts slightly away from rescue and more toward promoting spay/neuter as the solution to the tragic pet overpopulation problem here in Las Vegas. www.hcws.org
