Exciting News:   Ryan Richman for Dove Hair styled Florence Welch at last night’s Met Gala!

Florence Welch @ “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology” Costume Institute Gala

How-to with Ryan Richman for Dove Hair

“Florence was wearing a custom iridescent silver gown.  Florence has a very well-known look and we wanted to keep that alive with a little more structure and shine to go with the dress and theme of the gala.” – Ryan Richman

  • Using a large boar bristle round brush I blow dried 1″ sections of her hair until smooth.
  • Using a 1″ flat iron I took small sections of hair and began moving the flat iron up and down while simultaneously moving the iron down to the ends of the hair to create a tight but natural wave.

How Has Instagram Impacted the Photography Scene?

imgres-1

Instagram, once a popular smartphone app and now a social phenomenon, has completely redefined our outlook on the world and on photography. Fleeting moments are no longer regretted, as they are captured and shared with just a few taps. Furthermore, the desire and need to share these moments with friends and followers goes a long way in nurturing a user’s artistic senses. A person’s Instagram profile is an insight not only into their day to day life but also into their mind. You get to know how they think, how they look at things and interpret them, even abstractly. This idea itself has led to a huge amount of introspection and development of photographic capabilities, sensibilities, and desires.

There is a saying that beauty hides even in the seemingly mundane. An app like Instagram which allows you to share whatever you want whenever you want to, without really needing a reason could actually help you capture that beauty. For example, you are at a restaurant, hungry as ever, and your food is taking ages to arrive. You salivate every time a waiter heads to an adjacent table with a steaming plate of food. And finally, when your order arrives, you are so delighted that you take a picture and share it on Instagram! Every time you see that picture now, you will be reminded of that day, how hunger had reduced you to a child, and how overjoyed you felt when it finally landed on your table- this is art, and you’ve shared an artful moment of your life with everyone who follows you thanks to Instagram. Get in touch with Instamacro for all your Instagram services and solutions.

Instagram & Professional Photography

Instagram has impacted almost every aspect of our lives. It has revolutionized the manner in which we wine, dine, or view the sunset. Being a photo-sharing app, Instagram has obviously, impacted how we view professional photography. Today everyone pretends to be a professional photographer simply because they are able to take near perfect pictures at the drop of a hat. Instagram has transformed an ordinary guy with a smartphone into an artist. Opening up art practically to the common public is an amazing and truly groundbreaking aspect of Instagram. Today everyone is able to discover their hidden and yet unexplored artistic qualities and creativity. Instagram has completely radicalized the way of life for the general community. However, with this accessibility, several questions have cropped up regarding art and the kind of respect that should be given to professional photographers.

The Difference

One should admit that there is certainly a noticeable difference in quality and finesse between pictures taken with an iPhone and those taken on the DSLR. However, as technology is advancing in leaps and bounds, the gap between the two is fast disappearing. The art and the value of a professional picture as opposed to an Instagram photo could sometimes be really difficult to observe at a quick glance. Pictures that were taken by expert professional photographers certainly hold dynamic intricacies in terms of advanced compositional knowledge, or quality and Instagram’s pictures cannot match these.

The Realization

Does that mean that Instagram photographs represent lesser art? Of course not. You need to realize that aesthetic sensibilities differ from person to person depending on personal preferences, affinities, and experience. Good could really be an arbitrary term, as far as, the world of art is concerned. You may regard one picture to be aesthetically more pleasing than another one. But everyone may not agree with your viewpoint.

The Verdict

Professional photography would never lose its significance and charm, but instead, it should be approached with a whole new heightened level of admiration and respect no matter how common, accessible and fun Instagram is now able to make taking, as well as, sharing of photographs. However, we have to appreciate the value of Instagram and the effective ways in which it has been able to help people connect to each other in the society as a whole. We cannot undermine the role of Instagram and at the same time, we have to acknowledge that photojournalism and professional photography are superior to the iPhone or other smartphone-captured moments. We can end the discussion with a fantastic observation made by an expert who claims that Instagram pictures are definitely not photojournalism. They are not even perfect, but they are simply life, as it is.

Why Herbal Medicine is Not about to Die out 4000 Years Later

7

People have been using extracts from plants for thousands of years to treat illnesses and infirmities. The ancient Egyptians used herbal remedies some three and a half millenniums ago. There is also evidence to show that herbal remedies were also being employed in ancient China, Persia, India, Africa and even the Americas. There is no telling who the first people to make use of plants for healing purposes were or how they came about this discovery. Then again, who really wants to know that? It is like asking how people discovered that they could eat chicken and feel good about it.

It is estimated that a staggering eighty percent of the world’s population makes use of herbs as medicine in one form or another. There are those who use powders and others will go for tablets and capsules. Generally, it does not matter which form you take the medication in, as long as you use it for the right purpose. There are books that have been developed to give guidance on how to use the various herbal remedies that are available. One of the first books of this kind was developed some time before the Seventeenth Century. It detailed out the various herbal remedies and how to use them.

How do they work?

The World Health Organization has recognized herbal remedies as an integral part of healthcare since the mid 80s. There are no two herbs that work in the same way. They might treat the same disease but then they do not work in the same way. One thing that is worth noting about herbal medication is that it targets the root cause of the problem. It is not limited to treating the symptoms of a condition as most people tend to think. As a matter of fact, modern medicine might target symptom management more than treatment of the actual problem.

Herbalists try to figure out the exact problem that an individual is suffering from in order to fix it. These professionals believe that the herbal tonics, concoctions and tinctures can help the body in its self-healing process. The goal is always to restore harmony and balance in the body. The key principle that is employed in herbal medicine is that of herbal ‘synergy’. The herbalists will draw the remedies from leaves, roots, petals and the bark of plants. As such, the remedies are often mixtures of several different compounds. Conventional medicine will often have one active ingredient.

Few side effects

Here is the interesting thing about herbal medication- it rarely has side effects. The same cannot be said about modern medicine. Take for instance a drug like ephedrine, which is used in treatment of asthma. The drug was first isolated from the herb known as ephedra, which was used in treatment of chest complaints for years. A side effect of this drug is high blood pressure but the herb itself does not have the same effect. In fact, herbalists claim that the herb contains compounds that would naturally lower the blood pressure.

The herbal drugs normally aid in healing and at the same time counteracts any side effects that might arise from use of certain compounds. It is worth closing by mentioning that there is herbal medicine for just about all conditions under the sun. You simply need to visit an herbalist to find it.
