Salon styled hair, thanks to Centrix Heat Boss Brush

f5373941-e24a-4b58-b3a3-35fa75158e1c

Salon styled hair, thanks to Centrix Heat Boss Brush Collection!  This brush is available in two different sizes, 1.50″ and 1.75″. In using the 1.50″ brush for myself, I have taken note of a drastic change in my hair texture after blow drying my hair with this round brush. Because this brush contains a chrome plated barrel, it makes it super easy to brush through tangly hair effortlessly and seamlessly resulting in perfectly smooth hair. The great thing about his brush is how customized you can make it. The heat can be monitored depending on the thickness of your hair type! If you are someone with fine hair, than leaving the dial open is a great option to create the best results. If you are someone like me, with medium to thick hair, leaving the dial closed will lock in the heat just by pressing the dryers barrel downwards. Even down to the handle bar, this brush is top notch. It is perfectly fitted to comfortably style and perfect your hair. I love it! It’s my secret weapon when I can’t get to the hairdresser and I need a “do it yourself” blowout!

3 skincare rules you probably don’t know

unnamed

unnamed-1

Advice from the pros at SKIN TYPE SOLUTIONS: You know you shouldn’t be going to bed with makeup on and (hopefully) that you should be using an antioxidant each morning, but there are quite a few skincare rules that most people just don’t know. From the real reason why you shouldn’t use expired drugs to combining two of summer’s most commonly used products, CLICK HERE for three essential skincare rules to follow (and keep an eye out for more in the months to come)!

KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE

The Skin Type Solutions System evaluates four facial skin attributes to scientifically determine your Baumann Skin Type.

Skin Type.® Dry (D) vs. Oily (O) Your skin’s oil production and ability to hold onto water determine your skin’s hydration status and tendency toward enlarged or clogged pores.

Sensitive (S) vs. Resistant (R) Sensitive skin types experience acne, redness, burning, stinging or frequent rashes. Resistant skin types rarely suffer from inflammation, and need stronger ingredients.

Pigmented (P) vs. Non-pigmented (N) Pigmented skin types experience discoloration, while Nonpigmented skin types are even in color. This parameter is independent of ethnicity.

Wrinkle prone (W) vs. Tight (T) Wrinkle-prone skin types require anti-aging ingredients, while Tight skin types are teenagers and others who are not yet ready for aging prevention.

Skin Type Solutions will customize and prescribe the proper skincare regime for you today.

What to consider when picking an agency for Senior Home Care Rhode Island

images

It is apparent that no elderly person desires to live in a nursing home. Many prefer living within the comfort of their own home. When your parent does not like a nursing home, get him/her a caregiver. The caregiver will take great care of him/her in his/her house. Below are factors to put into consideration when picking an agency with proficient caregivers.

Needs and interests

You will be playing a major role in determining the value of care you will receive from the professionals. You are the one that knows the duties to be done by the professionals. It is important to draft a list of the needs and the desires of the patient, which will enable the caregiver to know exactly what to offer. This will empower the experts to directly satisfy the needs of the patient.

Language

While the caregiver is giving his/her services to the elderly person, they will be in constant communication. It is through communication that the caregiver will be dealing with the emerging needs of the patient. Ensure the care giver and the patient speak a common language. Language barrier will only culminate in frustrations and poor services.

Transportation

It is imperative to make it clear if the caregiver will be accompanying the patient wherever he/she goes. Staying in the house will apparently become boring for the patient. He/she would desire to visit interesting places and honor the appointment of the doctors. Thus, specify whether the caregiver will use the car of the patient or his/her car. This will incur transportation costs.

Skills needed/medical

Find out if the caregiver has any additional skills and expertise that will help the patient. Special skills might be needed to handle patients with complex diseases. Patients with high blood pressure need a caregiver that knows of blood sugar testing. The survival of the patient will rely on the knowledge of the caregiver. As such, elect a caregiver with the skills required.

Dietary

Cooking must be part of the package for the senior home care Rhode Island individual’s needs. However, it is significant to know the types of food the patient is expected to take. The professional must be capable of cooking those foods. The patient can starve if the caregiver is incapable of preparing the meals that he/she wants. You need a great cook.

Working hours

There are labor laws that govern this agency. These laws are meant to secure the interests of the workers. These laws affect the working hours of the employees. A good manager will make plans to ensure his/her clients obtain valuable service without fail. Examine the working hours of the agencies. If those hours are not appropriate for you, get another firm.

Flexibility

The needs of the customers change with time. It is essential to employ flexible professionals. Caregivers that find it hard to adjust to the changes will render low quality service. Chances are high the expert will be multitasking. The needs of elderly people are numerous. Without flexibility, it will be unbearable for the caregivers to be proficient.

imgres

Summer time means mani/pedi time, right?! There are endless options for finding the perfect color combo, and these recommendations from Skyy Hadley and Lauren B. of Lauren B. Beauty will help steer you in the right direction for picking the best mani/pedi shades this summer!

  • Skyy Hadley recommends finding colors with undertones that compliment each other. Her favorite combinations for the best summer mani/pedi are:

o   Coral and taupe – this combination bounces off of any sun-tanned skin, whether bronze, brown or lightly tanned. This combination also doesn’t get dried out or look ashy after the 3rd or 4th day like many mixtures often tend to do. The coral is a summer staple and will bring you to a beachy, tropical island.

o   Flat gray with a shimmery gray – this understated, neutral combination gives just the right amount of sparkle and flash.

o   Emerald green with shimmery gold gives you a rich, sultry look with a hint of shine. This color combination is unexpected for summer but looks elegant and fun at the same time.

o   Vibrant hot pink and softer, sparkling pink – These colors will pop against any skin tone for a fun night out/party look for summer. This punchy color combo gives the ultimate summer vibe and defines girly glitz.

o   A warm milky brown contrasted with an orange-gold hue is the perfect combination for hot summer days to take you from the office to a night out. These shades play off sparkling sand or a beautiful summer sunset. The sun-kissed corporate mixture is flattering on all skin tones.

  • Lauren B. loves minimalistic nail designs, including color blocking, cut outs, geometric shapes, and even modern studding to create a modern twist on your manicure or pedicure. Blending neutrals with brighter pops of color allow for unique and fun combinations. Lauren B. recommends:

Expert Tips & Tricks to Remedy a Nasty Sunburn

unnamed-1

TIPS FROM THE EXPERTS: Summer is in full swing and with that comes the occasional sunburn. emerginC’s Training Director, Kimberly Sampson shares some tips and tricks on how to avoid inflammation, redness and soreness associated with sunburn below:

Skin redness during sun exposure is our body’s natural immune system response to skin cell’s excess exposure to ultra-violet sun rays. Skin redness occurs when there is an increase of capillary blood flow and skin is burned. Our body’s natural immune defense, or histamines, are released which helps calm skin inflammation – resulting in skin sensitivity and warmth from sunburn.

1. When addressing sunburn look for calming, soothing, and healing ingredients in skin care such as aloe, seaweed, tea extracts, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, botanical oils and extracts. Choose a nourishing body butter such as emerginC’s grape stem cell, white tea, and seaweed body butter that will help moisturize and reduce skin redness.

2. Taking a cool shower and applying a post-sun skin care product such as emerginC’s grape stem cell, white tea, and seaweed body butter and/or hydra-repair capsules to face, neck, and chest area will help begin the healing process from sunburn.
3. A good natural remedy: Soak a soft fabric cloth in milk or collodial oatmeal and apply to areas of redness to help calm skin. Both milk and collodial oatmeal contain healing and natural anti-inflammatory ingredients to help address sunburn relief.

“Healthy Dogs are Happy Dogs”

Some common canine diseases that you should be aware of

Many pet owners are unaware of the dangerous pet diseases that can affect their beloved companions at any moment. Having a good knowledge of some common dog diseases will put you in a better position to deal with the symptoms in case they arise. Whether you have recently adopted a dog or you’re a seasoned pet owner, here are some of the major health concerns that you should look out for in your pet:

  1. Stomach Bloating

This is known as gastric torsion and it is a very common condition usually caused by hasty eating. This rapid intake of food causes swallowing of air which gets trapped in the dog’s stomach. Bloating causes abdominal swelling and the condition is worsened if the stomach turns as this prevents the trapped air from escaping.

Gastric torsion is most frequently witnessed in large breed dogs such as German Shepherd and Great Danes. Due to their broad chests, these large breed dogs can take in more air, thereby increasing their chances of bloating. Gastric torsion is usually manifested through an enlarged stomach, increased salivation and general body discomfort.

  1. Fungal diseases

From Valley Fever to Blastomycosis, there are many different fungal diseases that can affect your dog. Owing to their airborne mode of transmission, dogs inhale fungi-contaminated soil or dust which results in the infection. The extremity of fungal diseases varies greatly depending on the breed and immunity of the dog. Some may exclusively affect the skin while others cause damage in the entire body. Many times, fungal diseases are misdiagnosed and this can lead to the worsening of symptoms. Be sure to seek immediate medical attention in case you suspect that your dog has been infected by a fungus.

  1. Diarrhea

Diarrhea in dogs is a common condition that must be attended to immediately so as to avoid dehydration. This is especially common in puppies as they are very curious about their environment and may unknowingly swallow foreign objects. Mild cases can be treated by administering over-the-counter medicines for diarrhea in dogs. However, more severe cases should be investigated further as they may be an indication of a more serious gastrointestinal condition.

  1. Ear Infections

The unsightly curved edges of books are frequently referred to as dog ears. This amusing comparison alludes to the wide and flexible nature of canine ears. In spite of their cute appearance, the large surface area of your dog’s ears makes them susceptible to trapping harmful microorganisms which can cause ear infections. Vigorous head shaking and bloody discharge can indicate an ear infection in dogs. Apart from bacteria, this common ailment can also be caused by allergens and ear mites, hence it is extremely important for you to seek treatment as soon as these symptoms arise.

  1. Worm infestation

It can be quite difficult to control everything that your dog consumes and in some cases, intestinal parasites may invade your dog’s digestive system as a result of contaminated food or water. There are many different types of worms including hookworms, whipworms and roundworms among other varieties. Bloody stool as well as weight loss can be a strong indicator of worms. Be sure to regularly deworm your pet in order to prevent this problem.

WEDDING SEASON: GET HAIR, BROW & SKIN-READY

unnamed-4

Whether you’re a bride, bridesmaid or guest, you want to have your look in check for such an occasion! Expert Stylist Jason J Dougherty of Butterfly Studio Salon, Brow Specialist Matt Shakik of Spruce and Bond, and Certified Dermatologist Dr. Whitney Bowe share their inside tips and tricks for achieving a flawless and worry free look on the big day.

Hair prep:

Step 1: Evaluate your needs and wants – if you plan on wearing your hair down or half up half down, you’ll need to ensure that your ends are healthy. Book a deep conditioning treatment at your salon the week before. If you plan on an up do, save a little dirt for a better style. Your hair will hold any style better when it has a little bit of grit. You never want squeaky clean when doing any sort of up style so either shampoo as usual the previous night or prep for the wedding day and a book a blowout the morning of the rehearsal for benefits of both days.

Step 2: Perfect or upgrade your color – Color is so custom and ever-changing. Sometimes the magic happens all at once, sometimes in stages. Achieve the end goal through a couple of salon visits, over a period of time. Take a few inspiration photos and talk about how your hair pro can make it ready to wear.

Brow prep:

Step 1: Finding a tint – You want the color to match well enough to look natural, yet you want it to be distinct enough to contrast a little. People normally try to match their hair color, but our brows naturally look darker because they’re surrounded by paler skin.

Step 2: Put the tweezers down – Do not jeopardize the structure or thickness by removing hairs that might in time give you a fuller and more complete brow. Don’t take out hairs on one side to match it up to the other if it means making the brow thinner. When it comes to an end goal with your brows give them time and let them go, it might be torture but it will be well worth the wait. Tweezing is always the best option as it allows you to remove individual hairs to achieve the best shape.

Skin Prep:

Step 1: Schedule a visit with your dermatologist. Four to Six months in advance is best. If you have severe acne or scarring, getting these things taken care of in advance is important.

Step 2: Maintain healthy skin – I recommend exfoliating your skin two to three times a week to slough away dead skin cells, which would otherwise clog your pores. An exfoliating mask that contains glycolic and salicylic acids works great to clear out pores and tighten them. Dr. Brandt’s PoreDermebrasion works for any skin type making pores smaller for a better tone.

unnamed-3

During the weather changes you need to switch out your creams and cleansers. During the winter, I tend to use creamy or hydrating cleansers, but I switch to a normal cleanser in the spring, like heavy moisturizer, creamy cleansers leave a residue of fats and lips on the skin. That’s good in the winter because you have a compromised skin barrier, but you don’t need it in the spring. Keep the three categories of cleansers in mind: creamy, foaming, and normal (non-soap, pH-balanced cleanser). Opt for normal cleanser once the weather warms up, unless your skin is especially oily, in which case a foaming cleanser can help remove extra oils. Try Dr. Brandt’s Foaming Cleanser to give skin hours of protection against free radicals while dissolving away stubborn makeup and impurities!
