Retailer Launches Charity to provide Underprivileged Girls Dresses for Dances
The Founder of UsTrendy which specializes in fashion for juniors and young women, has launched a philanthropic foundation called “The Believe in Yourself Project.” The program provided thousands of dresses to girls and young women who could not otherwise afford them, to wear at their upcoming school dances. In 2017, The Believe in Yourself Project will be providing dresses for winter dances and homecoming.
In conjunction with donating dresses, Sisakhti seeks to create a mentor program that will provide mentoring services and other support and also bring in women speakers to talk to the girls. The aim is to promote a positive body image and healthy self esteem among young women at an early age, empowering these young girls to take on active social roles within their school communities and to feel good about themselves.
Donations began last winter. “It is truly amazing experience to hear many of the girls say that they now have the confidence to attend their first school dance, now that they have a dress that they feel good about wearing,” says Sisakhti.
This coming week, UsTrendy will be delivering more dresses to the Boys and Girls Clubs around country.
Hair Care the whole family will love from MOP
Modern Original Products for Modern Original People: MOP
MOP haircare products are my latest find and the start of the 2017 is the perfect time to switch up my shampoo and conditioner. The MOP line carries a variety of shampoos, conditioners, leave-in conditioners, detanglers, a molding creams and sprays among others. What I love most about this line of hair care is that you can mix and match the different types of products and get the same amazing results. With 5 varieties in the MOP line to choose from, Basil Mint, Mixed Greens, Lemongrass, Pear, and C-system, you will love what each product has to offer your entire family.
My husband is thoroughly enjoying Basil Mint Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner. Formulated with Basil, Mint, and Sage, these extracts stimulate the scalp, regulate dandruff and control excess oil production which is his major scalp problem. It also has a sweet minty scent that he is a huge fan of.
The Mixed Greens Shampoo and Conditioner add extra moisturizing and leaves my hair soft and silky for days. If you have a sensitive scalp, Pear Gentle Shampoo is the right choice. The Pear Detangler is perfect if you have curly hair like myself. Try mixing it up a little with Pear Gentle Shampoo and Mixed Greens Conditioner. MOP haircare products smell fabulous.
Orange Peel Molding Cream is perfect if your hair needs a little extra texture. My kids are using the molding cream and the Licorice and Orange Peel produce a textured look adding depth and a matte finish to their hair style. If you like your braid to look perfect, without frizzies and flyaways, Orange Peel Molding Cream will do the trick. If you can not find MOP at your favorite salon, you can order directly from their website at www.mopproducts.com

From the Pros: How to Get Mentally Fit for The New Year
With the start of a new year it is important to reflect back on the prior year, assess what went well, what didn’t and decide where you want to go next. It takes a lot of mental toughness, self-love, and discipline to create the life you want. Simply coasting along on cruise control reacting to life can lead to victim mentality and stagnation. Dr. Sanam Hafeez PsyD, a NYC based licensed clinical psychologist, teaching faculty member at the prestigious Columbia University Teacher’s College and the founder and Clinical Director of Comprehensive Consultation Psychological Services shares some key ways to get mentally fit for the new year so you can move forward successfully. www.comprehendthemind.com
- Clear clutter.
Look at your surroundings. If you have junk drawers galore, a messy car, countertops and cabinets that are full of stuff you don’t even use, it is time to clear the clutter. According to Dr. Hafeez, “cluttered spaces reflect a cluttered mind. If you want to wipe the slate clean to allow room for new people and circumstances that serve you, you must get your mind clear. Many of my patients who describe themselves as anxious, stressed or even depressed say they feel better when they start clearing up their physical space.”
- Exercise a little bit.
Dr. Hafeez who also helps people overcome body image issues encourages aiming for smaller attainable wins. “People set high fitness goals for the new year and then fall off after a month or less. This leaves their self esteem shot which is when self loathing and depression can sneak in.” She advises setting a reachable daily goal of perhaps walking 10,000 steps per day. There are step-counting apps available to measure how much you walk and they add up quickly. “When you see accomplishment on a daily basis you stick with it, this sets your mind in a positive direction,” says Dr. Hafeez.
- Eat mind-boosting foods.
Mental fitness also has to do with how well our minds work. A loss of memory or the ability to concentrate or focus can easily shift with an improved diet. “Research finds that along with other benefits, foods rich in Omega-3, such as some fish and nuts, as well as those full of antioxidants can help protect the brain from memory decline.” So eating more fish such as salmon and add fruits such as blackberries and blueberries to your diet can help. The good news is that brain boosting foods include delicious options such as chocolate, guacamole (avacados) and sunflower seeds.
- Color! The adult coloring book bandwagon is a good one to jump on. According to Dr. Hafeez coloring requires total focus on the present. The repetitive motion of coloring provides relief from stress and anxiety by entering a meditative state. “Not everyone can sit still and breathe for 15 minutes per day, but they certainly can color. It’s absolutely a fun way to achieve mindfulness and shake off the day,” explains Dr. Hafeez.
- Apologize and forgive.
A fast way to mental fitness is forgiveness! “Carrying around resentments and guilt wears us down and can lead to serious illness such as cancer or stroke. If you experienced a tough break up, divorce or perhaps the 2016 political climate led to arguments and lost friends, reach out apologize and seek forgiveness and move on. Remember, forgiveness doesn’t mean you condone a hurtful behavior. Forgiveness frees you and the other person making it easier to move forward.
- Learn something new.
Challenge your brain by learning a new language, how to cook, paint, do Tai Chi. Pick something you think would be interesting or useful to learn and learn it. If you avoided cooking your whole life, learning the basics will serve your brain very well. According to Dr. Hafeez, “the more we can activate the cognitive functions of our brains the better our short and long-term memory and hand eye coordination will be.”
Dr. Sanam Hafeez PsyD is a NYC based licensed clinical psychologist, teaching faculty member at the prestigious Columbia University Teacher’s College and the founder and Clinical Director of Comprehensive Consultation Psychological Services, P.C. a neuropsychological, developmental and educational center in Manhattan and Queens.

handcrafted jewelry with fitness in mind from Fitjewels
It all started with a Fitbit exercise tracker. I wore my tracker every day until one evening as I was getting dressed to go out, I realized the Fitbit tracker just didn’t fit in with dressy clothes. That’s when fitjewels came to my rescue. I acquired my first piece of jewelry, designed to dress up the Fitbit tracker, which was a beautiful pendant; http://itsaglamthing.com/2015/12/15/show-off-your-exercise-tracker-in-pure-elegance-with-jewelry-from-fitjewel/
The pendant worked beautifully, but sometimes even a beautiful pendant just doesn’t fit in with certain wardrobe choices. Again, fitjewels came to my rescue with their beautiful line of bracelets that accommodate my Fitbit and my new Fitbit Alta.
As you can see from the photo above, the FITBIT FLEX Jewelry Bracelet Soma, looks simply elegant on the wrist and goes with any type of outfit. A Fitbit tracker fits nicely inside the cage and looks more like an onyx piece than an exercise tracker. This particular bracelet is made of Stainless Steel and leather and the indicator lamps are always visible which is a nice feature.
Most pieces of jewelry in the fitjewel line are available in gold, silver and rose gold. Two sizes are also available; S-M (5.5-6.5) M-L (6.5-7.5) and L-XL (7.5-9) inches (circumference of your wrist). The bracelets look extremely elegant on your wrist you can’t tell you are hiding your exercise tracker.
With my recent upgrade from a Fitbit Flex to a Fitbit Alta, I needed another bracelet to wear when I wanted wear something besides the plastic strap. This particular piece (shown above) accommodates my Fitbit Alta, fitjewels FITBIT ALTA Jewelry Bracelet Noe. The Fitbit Alta attaches to the bands by connecting the sides to the jewelry. With a simple press of a small lever, the Fitbit Alta unhinges from the band and you can replace it with any fitjewel bracelet designed for the Fitbit Alta quite easily.
They are also available in two sizes; S-M (5.5-6.5) M-L (6.5-7.5) and L-XL (7.5-9) inches (circumference of your wrist) This bracelet is also made from quality stainless steel. The Noe is available in Gold and Silver and it is simply beautiful. Mine fits snugly on my wrist and I don’t even know it is there. It is quite a conversational piece because most people don’t realize it’s hiding an activity tracker so they won’t see this jewelry in a jewelry store. Each piece is very unique.
At the website www.fitjewels.com you can find the perfect gift for any occasion including the holidays. There are pendants, bracelets, necklaces, chains and jewelry for fitness activity trackers like Fitbit Flex , Fitbit One, Fitbit Alta, Fitbit Charge 2, Misfit Ray or Jawbone Up Move.
