Come & Get It at the MTV Awards

Selena Gomez turned heads on the red carpet at last’s night MTV Movies Awards with a sparkling gold beaded mini dress and an equally bold hairstyle. Here’s the first-hand scoop on how to recreate this look from Selena’s hairstylist, Marissa Marino of the Nine Zero One Salon, using UNITE Hair Care:

STEPS

1. To create the pompadour, section off hair from the front of your hairline and sprinkle it with the UNITE Expanda Dust ($25) throughout. Tease it back, using a comb. Next, pin this section with a bobby pin to secure it in place.

2. Take the rest of the hair and make five small ponytails down the center of your head.

3. Create a French braid using all of the ponytails together. (You can find French braid tutorials on YouTube.com).

4. Spray the UNITE Session Max Hairspray ($29.95) all over to tame frizzies and  smooth the sides around the hairline.

5. To make the braid look undone, pull it apart and pin these pieces down, using bobby pins.

6. Finish the look with the UNITE Max Control Hairspray ($27.50)to tame down any flyaways.

SEBASTIAN PROFESSIONAL STYLIST THOMAS DUNKIN COIFS ANDREA RISEBOROUGH FOR THE ‘DISCONNECT’ NEW YORK SPECIAL SCREENING

On Monday April 8th at the SVA Theater, actress Andrea Riseborough walked the red carpet for a special New York screening of the new film, ‘Disconnect.’  Donning a geometric dress, Andrea’s look was complemented by soft, elegant curls crafted by Sebastian Professional Lead Stylist Thomas Dunkin.

To achieve Andrea’s chic hair look, follow Thomas’ tips:

1.)    Begin by soaking hair thoroughly with Sebastian Professional Potion 9 Lite.

2.)   Once hair is saturated, blow dry until completely straight to eliminate all volume.

3.)   After hair has dried, strategically apply a large curling iron throughout, working around the head.

4.)   Once curls have set, run hands throughout hair to loosen them and give hair movement.

5.)    To finish the look, spritz hair with Sebastian Professional Shaper hairspray for added hold.

The Hollywood “Glam” Insider

Want the inside scoop of the hairstyles celebrities, musicians and west coast concert goers will be rocking at the upcoming Coachella music festival?  Wella Professionals Celebrity Stylist Andy LeCompte showcased the top “Flower Child” looks on Vanessa Hudgens in the April 2013 issue of Cosmopolitan.

Give a day-old blowout a fresh new take with a crown of flowers around the head. Simply mist roots with a dry shampoo and work Wella Professionals Texture Touch into the ends. Top it off with a floral crown.

Spritz fingers with a spray gel or texturizing spray like Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz before styling. Weave French, fishtail and traditional braids throughout the hair for a romantic yet rebellious look.

Go for the braided headband. Great for a no wash day – mixing up the braid type to give a unique and less contrived look. Wrap the braid over the top of the head and secure with bobby pins.

Prom is in the Air

Now that prom season is upon us, here are two hairstyles to try out for a playful and youthful look:

Ombre Hair:The “grown out” color trend is still going strong! It can look natural and sun-kissed – and can be done without a trip to the salon by simply using extensions. To get the look, find extensions that are 2-3 shades lighter than your hair color. Try the Dancing with the Stars Clip-In Starlight Extensions ($49: Extensions.com). Or, take the guess work out of finding the right hue with theHairdo by HairUWear Ombre Extensions ($49: ULTA.com) that already feature the ombre effect.

Bangin’ Braids:The effortless braid has become the perfect accessory to any hairstyle. If you want to achieve this look at home, attach a ponytail extension for overall volume or braid off into a loose style. Try Hairdo by HairUWear Simply Straight Pony ($49: Extensions.com) or thePOP by HairUWear Clip-In Braid ($9: Extensions.com).

Tanning on the Glow

Everyone loves a nice clean even tan right? Even us pasty white, translucent girls who burn very quickly when exposed to the sun. I have never been to a tanning bed either, because of the recall on the bulbs. I would rather be safe than sorry. I see all these woman (and young teenage girls) spending hundreds of dollars to use a tanning bed when all they are really doing is damaging and aging their skin. I mean who wants to look like an old aged leather suitcase when they are in their 30s? No one am I right?

During the time I was in beauty school, I learned all the different skin diseases and cancers associated with overuse of harmful UV rays. I am not evening kidding you, the diseases and cancers out there are scary.

There is a solution that takes all of 5 minutes to do and you can do as much or as little as you want. Fake Bake’s aerosol spray on tanner, Bronze on the Glow, will give a nice, crisp, even tan without the UV’s. Another great thing about this spray on tanner does not make your skin appear orange. Filled with all organic ingredients, Bronze on the Glow will make your skin look and feel great without clogging pores. Also, enriched with a subtle shimmer, Bronze on the Glow will give you a “dance the night away” radiant glow.

So next time you are planning a trip to the tanning salon or the beach, think again. Bronze on the Glow will give you a great salon tan right in the comfort of your own home. Beauty is only skin deep but when the skin’s unhealthy so is the beauty.

First Aid Beauty to the Rescue

FIRST AID BEAUTY (FAB) has become one of my “must-haves” and has become part of my daily skincare regime. FAB, founded by Lilli Gordon, has created a skincare line, “dedicated to creating smart, effective solutions for even the most sensitive skin.”  The exciting news is that FAB has just launched DUAL REPAIR, a brand new way to treat aging skin.  According to FAB, “DUAL REPAIR is clinically proven to Reduce Fine Lines & Wrinkles, Brighten & Improve Skin Radiance & Improve the Texture of the Skin.”

We all have something on our face that can be corrected and beautified. I have severe acne problems accompanied by redness and some face products tend to make my face more irritated. I am finding that FAB DUAL REPAIR POWER SERUM and FAB DUAL REPAIR FACE CREAM are giving me tremendous results.

DUAL REPAIR POWER SERUM is a soft cream like base that doesn’t feel oily or greasy. I apply the serum to my face in the morning and again at night after cleansing my face. DUAL REPAIR POWER SERUM is designed to address fine lines and wrinkles and contains Diacetyl Boldine and Siegesbeckia Extract which helps calm and tighten pores, improving overall skin tone.

After applying DUAL REPAIR POWER SERUM, I apply DUAL REPAIR FACE CREAM and I am finding that it is doing a fantastic job at calming my inflammation, giving me a more subtle look. “DUAL REPAIR FACE CREAM provides moisture to your skin helping to nourish and rejuvenate the look of your skin”. FAB products are formulated without parabens, harsh chemicals or colorants.

First Aid Beauty DUAL REPAIR FACE CREAM has recently been chosen as Good Housekeepings’s fave for 2013!

I love my First Aid Beauty DUAL REPAIR and I know you will too once you give it a try.

Lovin’ Your Hair with Philip B

I am very excited to try the Phillip B Lovin’ Leave-in Conditioner. My hair being curly tends to get dry and feel brittle at times that anything “leave-in” has got my name written all over it. Our hair is the first thing people see and also reflects our allover health. So if it’s not healthy then it shows that we as humans are not taking care of ourselves. I know you are probably thinking that is crazy, but it is true.

Philip B Lovin’ Leave-in conditioner is formualted with all natural ingredients so you never have to worry about any harsh chemicals or ingredients being put into your hair. It also helps aid with frizz, and adding shine.
Just like you, I am eager to give Philip B a try. I have only used it once but that is not enough to see a change in the feel or look of my hair.
