Amy Poehler

Inspiration: “For tonights look, we decided to keep hair fun, playful and a little edgy, letting the dress stand out. Since it is a big event, I knew her hair needed to shine but at the same time, stay understated. Leaving the and straight, and alternating between two different types of wave helped me keep the balance.”

1. Start with freshly washed and towel dried hair, select a part and brush out. Polillo suggests trying überliss shampoo and conditioner ($23.00 – $26.00 @ überliss.com) when you wash the hair.

2. Apply überliss Rituoil ($19.90 @ überliss.com) serum to the damp hair and blow dry smooth with a medium sized round brush to add slight volume at the root. For a added volume at the crown, add 2-3 Velcro rollers.

3. Taking 1″ sections, alternate between the t3 wand and the t3 1″ flat iron to create a slight wave or a ‘s’ shaped wave with the flat iron (available at Sephora $130).

4. Using a liberal amount of Serge Normant Meta-Revive Dry Shampoo (available at Birchbox $25) at the root for a messy volume.

5. Pieced out the ends with Kevin Murphy Undressed ($33.00 available on Amazon) and finish with Leonor Greyl Voluforme Hairspray ($35.00 available on Amazon).

Enhance Your Hair With HAIRMAX

If you are a product junkie like me then you find it extra hard to find a shampoo that can fight through all the build up and excess oils in your hair. I have tried many different shampoos, some have succeeded, but nothing like HAIRMAX Density Shampoo. HAIRMAX Density Shampoo is low pH which will help strengthen the scalps natural barrier and gives gentle exfoliation to the hair and is sulfate free. In one use you will not only feel a difference but notice a difference in how your hair look, feels and will even notice an enhanced color. I also have an extremely oily scalp and the HAIRMAX Density Shampoo helps to balance out the nasty over excess oils.

With 4 great products to choose from, HAIRMAX has been proven to cleanse, revitalize and fortify for thicker, denser looking hair. Lately I have been noticing (due to stress) that the hair around my temples has been thinning just a little. After using the HAIRMAX Density Shampoo it is slowly but surely creeping its way back in. I call this biotin without the pill (LOL). A HairMax independent study has demonstrated that there has been a 93.5% increase in hair counts and 78.9% increase in tensile strength.

How To Acheive The Perfect Top Knot

The Top Knot is the ideal style for any occasion as it can easily be paired with a dressed up or down ensemble for the perfect look. Jenny Balding, NYC Cutler/Redken Stylist, shares how to achieve this look:

Top Knot

Top Knot

•For best results, start with day two hair onwards as your hair will be easier to manage with an already ‘lived -in’ texture.
•Mist hair with dry shampoo, focusing primarily on the roots mainly – this will give your hair more texture, grip and volume.
•Then mist a light hairspray throughout for some hold and grip.
•Sweep your hair into high ponytail. Keep checking what it looks like from your profile so you position ponytail in the most flattering point of your head for your face shape.
•Take the ponytail and back-brush from the underneath lightly – this creates a slight disheveled texture.
•Sweep around the base of the ponytail and pin using U shaped hairpins. These really anchor the hair best which means you will only need 2 or 3 to secure.
•This creates perfectly disheveled topknot that looks ultra stylish and works for any event.

Beauty Tips and Tricks-Studio 10

See as I share these great Beauty Tips and Tricks on Studio 10!

Proper way to comb wet hair (straight or curly) ( I will bring my mannequin head I used in beauty school to demonstrate)- After shampooing and conditioning you want to make sure the hair is damp. Next take a wide toothed comb and section your hair horizontally starting from the bottom up. This will keep your hair from being pulled out and will make it a lot less painful.

Instead of microfiber towels use this- Now we have plenty of these around the house am I right? I am talking about t-shirts. Did you know that using microfiber towels can actually cause hair breakage and hair loss. SO next time you get out of the shower have a cotton fiber t-shirt sitting next to you and use that to wrap your hair.

Best way to shampoo and condition hair (especially if it is color treated)- When shampooing your hair don’t use more than a nickel size amount and only focus on your scalp. Do not ball your hair at the top of your head. Use your fingertips to massage your scalp and work into a lather. rinse hair and let shampoo run down the ends of your hair. Make sure you use a shampoo with low pH balance such as the ones found in your salon. Next to condition only use a nickel size and this time focus on the ends of your hair. RInse with cool water to help lock in moisture and also to help lock in color. If your hair is color treated especially redheads wash hair 2-3 times a week.

At home remedy for red heads- Aside from using shampoo and conditioner that is made specifically for color treated hair, a great at home remedy to help maintain redheads is rinsing your hair with cranberry juice. YES cranberry juice. We have all heard from our parents be careful cranberry juice stains. Its the same idea for your hair. After shampooing and conditioning your hair take a bottle of cranberry juice turn your head upside down in the shower and pour the cranberry juice on your hair and allow the water to run clear before flipping your head back over (tip: do this BEFORE you shave your legs)

Selena Gomez at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards: Get The Look with John Frieda Hair Care

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez

INSPIRATION: Selena’s very tailored Saint Laurent suit

GET THE LOOK: This look “weaves confident, youthful, sexy, a hint of bold, but still very sweet,” said celebrity stylist Lona Vigi

• To start, Vigi misted Selena’s hair with an Evian atomizer in order to prep her hair and keep it in the cleanest condition.

• Next, she applied a dime sized amount of the John Frieda Frizz Ease Original Six Effects Serum into her hands, and rubbed them together before going into Selena’s hair, starting at the roots and pulling all the way to the ends. “This serum is like a BB Cream for the hair,” said Vigi. “It covers so many vital bases that you end up using multiple products for, instead you can cut all of that out of the equation and just have this one master product.”

• In the front, Vigi sprayed John Frieda Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray while the hair was still damp in order to keep all the little baby hairs around the frame of the face tamed down.

•Then, while blowing drying on a medium heat with the Harry Josh Pro Tools Dryer, Vigi sprayed the hair continuously to ensure the hair stayed back into the ponytail.

• Next Vigi clipped the hair up and took super small sections and went over them with a flat iron, getting as close to the scalp as possible.

• Vigi created a center part and then gathered Selena’s hair by the nape of her neck to create the ponytail. Once it was secure, she patted John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Touch-Up Creme into the ponytail so that it looked extra strong and shiny. “We wanted the ponytail to be the accessory to her look,” said Vigi.

• As a final touch, Lona secured the ponytail with a long, black ribbon.

Nina Dobrev Debuts The Rope Braid at the Teen Choice Awards

Nina Dobrev Debuts The Red Carpet Rope Braid At The Teen Choice Awards

Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev dazzled on the Teen Choice Awards Blue Carpet tonight debuting what stylist Riawna Capri calls “The Red Carpet Rope Braid. “ Riawna created the unique look by blowing drying Nina’s hair using the KMS California FREESHAPE quick blow dry to cut down on drying time leaving more time for Capri to style to the hair. Once the hair was dry, Riawna used the KMS California FREESHAPE 2-in-1 styling and finishing spray before curling the hair with a 1-inch curling iron in big sections vertically to make a messy beach wave. Then Capri flipped over Dobrev’s hair and sprayed the KMS HAIRPLAY playable texture liberally to saturate the hair and create a disheveled texture.

To construct the unique rope braid, Riawna separated the hair into three sections, twisted them clockwise and then took those twisted sections and braided them counter clockwise to showcase distinct texture. Capri then spread out the braid and pulled out some loose pieces to frame Dobrev’s face and give an effortless look, sprayed her final masterpiece with the KMS California HAIRSTAY medium hold hairspray to keep the it in place.

Turning Back The Hair Of Time

We are always trying to find new products and procedures to help reduce the aging process on our faces such as sagging, wrinkles, the whole nine yards. But one little accessory we all have that tends to be left out of the loop is, believe it or not, our hair. Yes, just like our skin our hair ages as well and it happens in all stages of life. When I first became a licensed hair stylist, I really had a hard time believing that no matter how old you were, your hair ages. From the minute you start coloring it, flat ironing etc. your hair is aging but don’t worry I am here to tell you that there is a simple solution to your problem. It is called Keratage Age Defying Professional Hair Care.

Hair slowly starts it’s aging process when it is first exposed to the UV rays, color/lightener, and thermal styling tools such as your blow dryer and flat iron. When this happens hair can tend to look dull and lifeless. Nowadays with more and more young girls are using flat irons and getting their hair colored but are doing very little in the up keep to maintain healthy strong hair and women who have used these items for years are trying everything to bring life back into their hair. With 3 lines to choose from that you can take home with & lines that are used specifically for salon professionals, Keratage has something for everyone. They are the Nutritious for Color Treated|Dry Hair, Shine Booster for Normal|Dry Hair, and Enhancing for Fine|Highlighted| Thermal Treated Hair.

While at Premiere Orlando the Keratage crew sent me home with the Nutritious Line to help with my red color treated, dry curly hair. In the first week (because I only wash my hair 4 times a week) I noticed my hair getting smoother and much more hydrated. I came home with the Shampoo, Conditioner, Treatment Mask, and the Leave-In Control Serum. The shampoo ,conditioner and the treatment mask are enriched with KERONOX-D™ to help create a protective shield to help the elasticity and smoothness of the hair. Now the treatment mask should only be used 1-2 times a week to rebuild the whole structure of your hair.

Even though you can take Keratage home I strongly suggest going to your professional stylist for deep conditioning and use of the other salon Keratage treatments such as the color-enhancing treatment and the silver & blonde illuminating treatment to help remove brassiness and yellow tones in blondes, silver and highlighted hair. Like I said with Keratage there is something for everyone. For more information on Keratage and all it has to offer visit www.keratage.com
