“007” “Total Look” in the house

Imagine this. You just went through 10 months of beauty school learning the fundamentals of becoming a hairdresser. Now its time to showcase what you learned, with no help and be graded on it. Would your nerves be going crazy? Your stomach be all in knots? But yet still be extremely excited that your 10 months of hard work is coming to an end? That was the feeling I got from The Villages Salon Professional Academy’s class July 2014. Better known as class 1407 (or as I call them 007).

Starting at 11:45AM on Thursday March 12, 2015 class 1407, all decked out in their class color LIME GREEN, started doing their “total look” model makeovers. This includes everything from hair color, hair cut, hair style and makeup application. They have about 3 hours to complete their whole look before presenting it to friends, family and fellow alumni. So with those creative juices flowing, they headed on their way. I was privileged to come as a judge for the students work. I couldn’t make up my mind who I thought should win because I saw so many great transformations. They were that good. While one student was doing a color correction another was doing a two tone effect and another was doing an up do. AHHHH HELP!!! LOL so many creative minds were going at once but as you can see in my photos many talented hairdressers.

After the 3 hours was up they waltzed their models up on the catwalk and many of us asked questions such “What was their inspiration for their models makeover” etc. Then they received their awards. One for each: Best Overall, Most Creative, and Best Technical. I wish we could have given them all an award but as they go through this journey they will receive so many rewards that will stick with them their whole lives. I bet your wondering who won?!

Well: Best Technical was Thersea Marie Vitali, Most Creative was Brittany Peeples and Best Overall was Alexis Cruz.

I enjoyed being back at TSPA and spending the day with the students. I want to thank TSPA staff and students as well as Janice Case for inviting me to come. Now you guys have the skills, and the education to go on and do many amazing things. With so many avenues to take in this industry you will find what it is you love and rock at it. Congratulations class 1407. YOU DID IT!!!!! Keep on rocking.

Students of class 1407 are:
Alexis Cruz, Brittany Peeples, Estafania Patino Salano, Cameron Balmer, Robert (Robbie) Coy, Manna McCloud, Liliana McDermott, Vanessa (Nessi Boo), Thersea Marie Vitali, Aimee Nicole, and Jack Reich

The Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest presented by Cheap Chic Weddings and Charmin begins March 12, 2015 for the eleventh year in a row.

The top ten dresses and their designers will be flown to New York City to participate in a live fashion show finale event at Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City on June 17, 2015 where the top three winners will be chosen.

At the Finale Event, the dress entries will be judged by members of Cheap Chic Weddings, Charmin, Co-Owner of Kleinfeld, Mara Urshel and Celebrity Judge Mikie Russo, event planner and host of “Mikie Saves the Date” on FYI Network.

“The contest has grown immensely over the last ten years and we are always in awe of the beautiful gowns created by the contestants.” says Susan Bain, Co-Founder of Cheap Chic Weddings. “We specialize in making weddings chic on a budget but these designs often surpass even our imaginations.” added Laura Gawne, Co-Founder of Cheap Chic Weddings.

Treat your skin like Gold, with Gold

Florida sunshine is coming back, and having experienced my first sunburn in nearly 10 years, I think it is hotter than ever. That would have been a great day to have my Australian Gold Spray Gel Sunscreen w/ Instant Bronzer. Of course I forgot all about it but now carry it in my purse, and beach bag no matter what, even just to sit in my car. With the sun being a whopping 10,000 degrees we all need to protect our skin, but not just in Florida.

Australian Gold

Australian Gold

Since 1985, Australian Gold has been protecting skin so we can have some fun in the sun . With my skin being extremely sensitive towards getting burnt I don’t tend to tan very well. I love the look of tans so this instant bronzer added to the sunscreen gives the sun kissed glow we all love. It is water resistant for up to 80 minutes and comes in SPF’s starting at 4. I first used my Australian Gold on our first real sunny, warm day sitting outside on my lanai. No worries about the sun, smelled great, easy to apply and thanks to the instant bronzer I was able to still get some great color. I spent a day at the beach a couple weeks ago and had no sunburn when I got home. I am the kind who will apply sunscreen nearly every half hour, but with Australian Gold I didn’t have to (company recommends applying every 2 hours) Not only that but I was able to apply more when needed without rubbing sand into my skin. I don’t think that is the greatest feeling in the world lol.

With other products to choose from, Australian Gold has something for all your sun & sunless needs. Even for that unfortunate burn, Australian Gold has your back because skin cancer is no joke. For more info on their products visit www.australiangold.com and see if they are going to be in your city next!

Florida Fashion Weekend: Recap

Fashion, food, and friends, a few of my favorite things were all tied together last Saturday night at Fashion E.D.G.E., Florida Fashion Week. The Vanity Nightclub in Orlando, FL was all hustle & bustle with excited designers, models, and judes. I was so excited to attend. I met many new people, saw some beautiful, unique fashions and discovered a little more about the “nightlife”. Florida Fashion Week showcased fashions from designers like, MdizCollections, Xanimichi Roy’el, ZHE YANG, SewInVogue, The Lion Of Art, and Kala Express. Also, featured a panal of judges, Ms. Latina International Angela Posillico, host Jimmy Star from Miami’s “The Jimmy Star Show” and host Jorge Alvarado of Tampa’s “The Jorge Show”.

Florida Fashion Week is put on twice a year, for spring lines & fall lines, by Fierce Entertainment Management (this is its second year). Fashion E.D.G.E.(Emerging Designer Gauntlet Exhibit) is a competition with some prizes that these designers surely fought for. A plaque, interview in Orlando Fashion Magazine, interview on “The Jorge Show” and guaranteed in Orlando International Fashion Week designer lineup. That makes me want to start my own line just so I can have the chance to compete lol. As the models graced the runway, I became even more excited. Each line had it’s own unique twist. I have always loved and had an eye for fashion so to get to be here I think some of them belong on the red carpet or even in Vogue.

So I bet you are wondering who was the lucky winner that will walk away with all these prizes? Give it up for Mdiz Collection! Meleissa Dunkley-Hampton, owner/designer wowed the audience with her collection. But Jorge had one more little surprise for her…he is going to feature the winner along w/ the stars of Project Runway! If I were Meleissa I would so be on cloud 9. Congratulations Meleissa.

So even though this Florida Fashion Weekend’s second year, it has definitely made its mark. Getting to meet and make new friends was the highlight of my evening. I met Jorge Alvarado of “The Jorge Show”, an up & coming fashion Designer who will have her show in Orlando, Fl on March 29, and so many more. I think we will see more Florida Fashion Weekend throughout the years and all I can say is YES!!!!!

Stay tuned for more blogs about designers, judges and more from the event

Save money & have fun…doing laundry

My daughter received a gift of “Wooly Mates” and she gave them to me since I normally wash the clothes. I read the bag that they came in and it said to use them instead of softener sheets in my dryer. I didn’t really think that they would do much, but I was almost out of softener sheets, so I thought I would give them a try. I absolutely love them! Our clothes have no static, they are just as soft as always, there are no conflicting perfume smells and I don’t have to remember to add a dryer sheet each time I use the dryer. The “Wooly Mates” are left in the dryer to use time and time again. I don’t know how many dryer cycles they will continue to work so well with, but the website said hundreds. Works for me!

Wooly Mates

Wooly Mates

They are 100℅ wool, chemical free, easy to use and they remove any excess lint as they are tumbling through your clothes. I always tried to use detergents without added fragrances because my daughter has sensitive skin. This product helps me to accomplish this also with the dryer because there is no fragrance.

So glad that I was introduced to these little gems. They are perfect for us and may be just what you need too. Check them out at: www.woolymates.com
