Healthy At-Home Dental Care For Healthy Teeth That Shine

Thank you Mom for your attention to my teeth and mouth as I was growing up and kudos to me for keeping up that healthy oral care routine.

During my dental exam, just last week, my dentist commented that I kept up a great at home dental regime. My teeth, mouth and gums looked healthy. He told me that I did a great job of flossing. He chuckled to say that most patients say they floss but, hey, he’s a dentist. He can tell. Floss people!

I brush my teeth twice a day (my tongue very gently also) and use a mouthwash after lunch. Floss is in my purse, my desk and my car. I use a fluoride toothpaste. Drink lots of water. Swish my mouth with water after drinking dental damaging and teeth darkening beverages like red wine or tea. I do the same after eating sugary foods and red or black berries.

I use a teeth whitening bleach sold at the dental office. I had trays made a few years back. I follow my dentists guidance so that I know there is no risk associated with the whitening, but recently, I noticed that the syringes of gel are getting thinner and smaller and the price is going up and up.  I am considering alternatives.

Here is some info that crossed my desk about Luster Power White Pro Sonic. It’s a three-step, at-home whitening system that is said to remove surface stains and deep stains too. The product packaging says it can whiten teeth by up to 6 shades in 3 days. It includes a sonic toothbrush.  It has no sulfates in the formula and contains fluoride.

The system includes a Power Sonic Toothbrush, Accelerinse, Stain Lifting Serum and Mint Power White Pro Anticavity Fluoride Toothpaste. There is a Luster Pro Light (sold separately) that can be used to boost the results. I would definitely want to try it with the light so I will look for info on that. I am going  to give this a try after I finish up my final syringe of bleach that I have on hand.  I’ll let you know how it goes.

Here are some tips for keeping white teeth from Web MD.

Avoid the consumption of or exposure to products that stain your teeth, such as coffee, tea, and red wine. If you do choose to consume beverages that stain, consider using a straw so that the liquid bypasses your front teeth.

Brush or rinse immediately after consuming stain-causing beverages or foods

Follow good oral hygiene practices. Brush your teeth at least twice daily, floss at least once daily to remove plaque, and rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash at least once a day to kill bacteria  that cause plaque.
